DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Fall 836 - Swedish Sol... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Please do CC me on all EOGs - and in your commentary on the variant (which is very welcome and appreciated, both positive and critical) - please - please - please - take a look at the new Dark Ages map (Trout has a copy, as do I - so please ask if you don't have it) and let us know if you think the changes made already address your concerns or if further work needs to be done.

Unlike most surveys Smile your opinions here really do count and will all be considered as I continue to develop Dark Ages.

Thanks to one and all for playing - I hope you all enjoyed it, and please consider giving the new revision a chance if you feel inclined to GM or play more in the future - it's much more balanced, particularly as it affects the Danes, Gaels, and Swedes.

Good morning. I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, but I'm afraid my walk has become rather sillier recently, and so it takes me rather longer to get to work.

The walking in DC-161 is complete now, the Swedes marching their way into a 19 center solo victory. A big congratulations go to Mikael, as well as to Bruce, Josh and Clark who hang on through the Swedish tidal wave to pick up survivals. All end-game proposals failed to reach united consensus, but Mikael took matters into his own hands.

Through blood and fire, the Dark Ages game now comes to conclusion. My thanks to all players for their efforts in this one - I think we can easily say that it was a resounding success. Your end-game statements are highly encouraged, along with any comments you might have as to the layout of the map and the playability of the positions.

This was truly a pleasure to GM folks. Thank you all for taking a part in it. Congrats once again to Mikael, and thanks for everyone for being such a wicked bunch of savages. =P

Cheers everyone!

DC161 - Short One Longboat for the Full Fleet - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Heya Raiders,

Just letting you all know whats going on. Unfortunately we find ourselves short one longhorn for the DC161 saloon. The player in question has been notified, and I'm very confident that we'll be receiving the missing orders imminently.

Not an auspicious beginning, but life does happen. I, for instance, found myself having to borrow a laptop myself this evening - the old warrior I normally use having decided to cash in its chips. So, thanks for the patience all, the adjudication will be out before you know it.

Cheers,

Trout

Good thing the Swedes don't have three buttocks.. They'd run out of pants material - stretching it thin enough as it is with two brand new armies. Anglo-Saxons and the Norse both build fleets and the Danes launch fireboats for all their units except for the one in Ribe.

Deadline for Spring 827 orders will be set for Monday, March 31st (11:59 PM GMT). Cheers!

Trout,

Your updating and expanding of the entire playing area via your 'SPR.gif' map file was an impressive attempt--a leap of 1000+ years in one shot, eh? One question though. Are we now considering the Gaels, Scots, Anglo-Saxons and the Bretons as one nation? If so, can I ask to push back our next deadline? I need try and renegotiate a few relationships...

Ugh!
Just took a rather cheap shot which I thought was oh-so-funny this morning (too much coffee?).

No matter, in seeking closure over this incident, I offer the following quote from one infinitely wiser than I: "Every time I try to talk to someone it's "sorry this" and "forgive me that" and "I'm not worthy"...

... No these mice are so arranged upon this rack, that when played in the correct order they will squeak 'The Bells of St Mary's'. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you on the mouse organ 'The Bells of St Mary's'. Thank you...

--------------------

Not sure the tune played out this round is The Bells of St Mary's, but the bloodthirsty hordes give it their best go. Meanwhile the Gaels dance a fine jig while the Scots and Bretons match fiddles in the Irish Sea.

No retreats are required after the Spring, meaning we'll move directly into the Fall of 827. Orders will be due in a weeks time, on Monday, Apr 7th (11:59 PM GMT).

Throw an axe at me if you spot a mistake. Cheers!

SPRING 827 PRESS:

When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England.

DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Fall 827 - A Scotsman... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Oh... Bloody Hell! Er ... a Scotsman on a horse!

The Swedes and the Norse put an end to the plague of Danish longboats in the Northern Waters. Meanwhile the Scots tighten the noose around the Gaels and the Anglo-Saxons continue to stretch out with both arms.

In an ironic coincidence, both the Swedes and the Anglo-Saxons misordered this round - and both mistaken orders concerned Saxony. Sweden missed the support for Saxony, and the Anglo-Saxons missed the support for the attack on Saxony. Rather than delay the game seeking clarification, I simply ran the turn with the orders as submitted. (I assume that if I got clarification, it would end up a 2:2 bounce rather than a 1:1 bounce - net result the same.)

With all that, we have one retreat before moving to Winter adjustments. The Bretons have until Wednesday, Apr 9th (11:59 PM GMT) to send their fleet in the Bristol Channel packing.

And speaking of Bristols, my thanks to Rob B. for taking the Danes to the end of their road. Rob, we hardly got to know ya in this one - but I'm sure I can speak for everyone in saying we look forward to the next game with you. =)

Cheers everyone. Please let me know if you spot any errors...

Hold that thought everyone.. Just noticed an error in the RP adjudication - the Bretons should not have to retreat the Bristol Channel as their fleet in Dyfed cut Gaels support from Atlantic Ocean.

Corrected maps and adjudication will be out momentarily. Sorry guys.

Okey-dokey...

Please find attached the corrected Fall 827 map minus the Breton retreat, as well as the adjusted .map file for those of you using RP. It appears I have to go through and completely re-do all of our previous turns to kick the program in the head and get it to use the adjusted file. I'll do this tomorrow - I don't have the ambition tonight.

Let me know if you spot any other mistakes. Winter 827 adjustments will be due on Wednesday. Cheers!

Good thing the Swedes don't have three buttocks.. They'd run out of pants material - stretching it thin enough as it is with two brand new armies. Anglo-Saxons and the Norse both build fleets and the Danes launch fireboats for all their units except for the one in Ribe.

"Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?"

Yup! Knight Who Say Ni blasts off to a Spring 825 start, coconuts a-blazing. Skaggarak witnesses a clash as both the Danes and the Norse make for its strategic waters. The Swedes move south, the Bretons move to the middle and the Gaels just pinwheel in either direction. Definitely an interesting beginning.

No retreats are required which means we'll move into the Fall of 825. Orders will be due in about a weeks time, on Thursday, March 6th (11:59 PM GMT).

DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Fall 826 - Flying Shee... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
One thing is for sure, the sheep is not a creature of the air. They have enormous difficulty in the comparatively simple act of perchin'.
(Baaa baaa... flap flap flap... whoosh... thud.)

-----------------------------------

Ouch. The Danes discover a new world of hurt as they get slammed from all three directions. Two automatic disbands result from the Fall action - both Danish. After the smoke clears, one sole Danish center remains standing.

Winter 826 Adjustments will be due after the weekend, as I know a couple of players will be out of contact over the next few days. Please have your adjustments in to me by Monday, March 24th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers!

Trout

Well... I was about seventeen and some mates and me went to a party, and, er... we had quite a lot to drink... and then some of the fellows there ... started handing ... cheese around ... and well just out of curiosity I tried a bit ... and well that was that.
