DC190 - Fall 2005 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hello, everyone... sorry for the wait. I got distracted with one of my other games last night and after staring at that map for a while I was in no shape to adjudicate. So here are the Fall 2005 moves. We've got four retreats to resolve prior to the adjustments and one of the players who needs to retreat is away for a bit with limited access to internet.

A few highlights from this set:
Russia asserts her sovereignty over the eastern short and unites Vladivostok with Moscow.
Mexico realizes its long-held dream of controlling the US... can Canada be far behind?
The battles over the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans rage on and the Indian Ocean heats up.

Note that a few of the units have been tweaked again... a continued effort to differentiate similar colours.

On to the moves:

dc204 ~ The Final Frontier - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Gentlemen, and other species;

In order for the RealWorld software to allow the Borg's assimilation of
supply centers in this variant, it had to be set to allow builds in
captured supply centers for all players, hence it's showing the Dominion
as having 3 builds when he actually only has 2 home centers open to
build in.

Being overly concerned with LATE ORDERS I overlooked this issue, this
first time it's come up.

The Q thanks the DOMINION who pointed this out. That's one good
sportsmanship point the the addicts of The White.

Deadline for Stardate 2372.4 (Winter): Monday, September 29, 2359 UTC

Adjustments:

Borg: 8 Supply centers, 6 Units: Builds 2 units.
Cardassian: 4 Supply centers, 4 Units: Builds 0 units.
Dominion: 8 Supply centers, 5 Units: Builds 2 units.
Ferengi: 6 Supply centers, 5 Units: Builds 1 unit.
Klingon: 6 Supply centers, 5 Units: Builds 1 unit.
Romulan: 7 Supply centers, 5 Units: Builds 2 units.
UFP: 6 Supply centers, 7 Units: Removes 1 unit.

DC201 - Autumn 954 adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Autumn 954: the Danes take their fleet in the Sea of England to the Dogger Bank, while the French army in Nantes has become dispersed.

At the start of Winter 954 we see a very different military landscape:
- France will be gone after Winter;
- the Danes have suffered a tremendous blow during this year, starting out with 7 SCs and retaining only 2;
- the Independents have been reduced to just one: Pest;
- the Arab Caliphates and the Slavs managed to contain their losses to only 1 SC;
- Norge gained 1 SC;
- Burgundy pushed out its borders but, with the loss of the SC in Nantes, only by 2;
- Sverige and the Eastern Roman Empire expanded their empire each by 3 SCs.

The DoubleDigit SC Committee for Europe 955 have asked Sverige to join their ranks, making a total of five, whereas the Slavs have received a warning that their membership is at risk.

Deadline for Winter 954 builds and disbands is Tuesday Sep 30 at 23:00 GMT.
Don't forget to think about your vote for the Norge - ERE Draw proposal with the submission of your Spring 955 orders.
Deadline lookahead: Spring 955 will be set for Sunday Oct 5 at 23:00 GMT.

Spring 1902 Results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The existing concert (of the Powers) is their only perfect security against the revolutionary embers more or less existing in every state of Europe; and…true wisdom is to keep down the petty contentions of ordinary times, and to stand together in support of established principals of social order.

Social order in our little world took a serious hit this year, however, as tens of thousands of men and ships from three nations are thrust together in a monumental clash which plays out across the the Danubian Plains of Bulgaria and the icy waters of the Black Sea. In the end, an entire Turkish army is swept from the field while an Austrian army begins the task of pacifying the Bulgarian county-side...

Tensions likewise rise in the West as French and Italian armies fight each other to a standstill "Ai piedi del monte"" and the navies of England reposition themselves in colder, deeper waters.

Spring 1902 actually mostly saw a whole bunch of people trying to go to the same place--and all at the same time--resulting in a series of failures and bounces.

But swords have been drawn; and bloodied...

__________________________________________________________

And on an admin note...

Since the major action this turn resulted in the disbanding of the Turkish army in Bulgaria and we have no retreats, we move directly to the Fall turn. So let's have those Fall 1902 orders in by Wednesday, 1 October at 11:59pm GMT. More time needed? Just ask ASAP.

My apologies to you all. I had sent out my reminder a tad bit too early this last turn. No matter, it worked--and that all that matters--as all of you got your orders in once again on time. Thanks for keeping this one moving along so well guys!

REMEMBER to check your orders!!!! We had one miss-typed order this turn. I take 'em as I get 'em, so make sure it's what you want me to use. I use, as does RP, the standard abbreviations found in the back of the game manual. Makes sure you either spell out the complete name of the province/territory or use the standard abbreviation. I really can't change them for you.

Also, please remember to put the game identifier (dc20Cool, Turn (Spring 1902) AND THE COUNTRY YOU ARE PLAYING (Austria, Turkey, England, etc). This helps me, particularly now that you are moving units further afield.

As always, please check out my GMing efforts, below, and ensure I didn't mess something up!

Thanks and good luck!

Bruce

- HOLLAND WONDERS WHERE ALL THE RUM HAS GONE
- US OPENS ALASKAN CRUISE LINES - DISCOUNT TICKETS SOLD IN SOUTH AMERICA
- RUSSIA GETS ASSISTANCE BUILDING A DUTCH BERM IN PERM
- JAPANESE FLEET EXERCISE IN IZU TRENCH COMES TO AN END

-----------------------------------------

Heya all,

Spring orders come around and the board takes life once again. French activity in the Med is matched, move for move, by the Dutch - although the Orange troops are completely overwhelmed in Rumania. The wall goes up in Russia and the Orange tide continues to creep across Asia.

There was only one retreat from the Spring moves, and with that only one option to fall back to. The Japanese fleet in Izu was auto-retreated to Edo - whoever Paolo, if OTB is preferred, please just let me know. Fall 1878 moves deadline will be set for Friday, October 3rd (11:59 PM GMT).

Please let me know if you spot any errors in this adjudication. Cheers folks!

dc187 summer 04 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
To complete the dance France retreats to Portugal (move marked "final"
allowing immediate adjudication).

I've received a suggestion that turns could be speeded-up. I've been
trying for 7-days for a normal move and 4-days for a retreat, or build.
What do people think: are we at the point in the game where we could
change to, say, 5-days for a normal move and 2 for a retreat/build?

Deadline for fall 04 set to 2 October at 6pm BST. If anyone says soon
that a 5-day turn is too short then I'll send everyone a new deadline.

DC191 Study In Baltic - Spring 07 - The Gloria Sco... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Watson only heard snippets of the conversation between Holmes and their captors during the march through the Finnish woods. His mind was racing in panic and anxiety. Where was his wife? Had these goons kidnapped her as well? His grip tightened on his cane - if these hooligans had harmed Mary in any way...

Suddenly, the group crested a hill and saw a small harbour stretching out below them. A powerful frigate lay alongside the dock, its sails spread like canvas wings. "The Gloria Scott, of course!" Watson heard Holmes exclaim.

The goons laughed. "Not exploded after all. And easily the most powerful vessel in these waters, with the whole Finnish fleet moving south." Rough hands pushed their shoulders propelling Watson and Holmes forward. "Now lets go meet the boss..."

----------------------------

Hey folks,

The Spring 07 turn is characterized by naval combat between the two large powers, with Sweden and Russia both lending some key supports. With no retreats required, we'll move right along into the Fall turn - with the deadline set for Thursday, October 2nd (11:59 PM GMT).

As always, let me know if I'm sniffing glue and made any errors. Cheers!

Hey all,

Four retreats are required before we brave the Winter snows. Deadline for Early Winter 1904 retreats will be set for Monday, September 29th (11:59 PM GMT). As always, please just let me know if you spot any errors in the adjudication.

Diplomatic Corp Newsletter October 2008 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Diplomaticcorp Newsletter – October 2008

For those of you paying attention, I am going to name this newsletter VIII (which could or could not be right since I’ve never really paid attention to the number system)

What is this newsletter I hear you say?

Well it’s where I tell you about all the exciting things happening in DC (after I waffle on a bit about the other mods and me and just general stuff)

Fantastic I hear you say (where can I complain?)
Any comments, complaints or even sub-writing for this fabulous newsletter can be sent to me at stevelytton(at)hotmail.com or to feedback(at)diplomaticcorp.com

Who are you, I hear you say?

I, (drum roll please)… am the great and mighty Deathblade_penguin, diplomacy master and solo editor of this newsletter. My girth is wide and I live in a castle..// what?.... too much.. really…. Okay,.. too much… (note I’m in a strange mood tonight)… Starting again…. Okay my name is Steve Lytton (handle on diplomaticcorp is deathblade_penguin also known as Penguin). I’m 36, happily attached to my wonderful girlfriend and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I’ve been playing online diplomacy for around 8 years and been a moderator of www.Diplomaticcorp.com for at least 6 years now. I tend to favour playing variants of diplomacy and I am sucker for a draw with a good ally. I’ve been told I stabbed one season too late. I’ve recently started playing some face to face diplomacy with my fellow Australians and I do enjoy the change of pace but I still come back to online diplomacy. My fellow moderators are Mike Sims(poobaloo) and El Trouto. Mike hails from Chicago I believe and lives there with his wonderful wife and 3 children. Mike is the brainchild of our website and although I don’t know how he does it and where he finds the time but he seems to keep the site running. Mike has the most ‘solos’ recorded on our site and seems to be the master of diplomacy. He’s known to hate gunboat games though. Trout, is a Canadian and he definately pretends to work for a living (hehehe). He’s fairly new to DC (only a year and a bit under his belt) but he does the work of 3 men for the site. Trout seems to follow me from game to game and already has 2 soloes under his belt. A man to watch! Someone else who deserves a mention is Jason K. Whilst not a moderator of DC, Jason as a ‘junior’ mod is taking up some of the tasks that Mike, Trout and I just can’t handle with the growing site. Jason works on the dipwiki and is currently working on improving the message board system. If you have time to help put in these areas, please drop us a line at feedback(at)diplomaticcorp.com

Okay – down to Basics. What’s new, what’s going on, what’s coming up?

OPEN GAMES
Sam Buck is running the next opening game, cleverly called the ‘flying hellfish’. There’s only 3 spots left, but don’t stress as we have another GM lined up after him. However we are always desperate for new GMs, so if you think you are ready to step up and help out GMing, please please drop us a line. Even if you are interested in knowing how to GM – email us! At feedback(at)diplomaticcorp.com

We have 3 variants on the table at the moment. Trout is running a HUGE game of the Haven map that Mike created for his fog of war games Check out the Haven information in the dipwiki. Brand new game on a used only once map – who can resist that, I’ve already signed up! Check it out in open games or game Dc158 for some history. Speaking of games with MORE PLAYERS, Matt is planning on running a chaos game – 34 players on one standard map. That can be found in open games as well. And last but not least – Jason K is looking for players for the second trial of his wheel of time map. From a fan of Robert Jordan’s series, I enjoyed playing in the first one and thoroughly recommend it.

Speaking of Variants, some games you might want to keep an eye on that are running in DC are :-

Jerry’s star trek variant. Diplomacy in the Alpha and other Quadrants!
www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc204

Paolo’s 50th anniversary Commemorative game. 7 players are battling it
out on the original map before they fixed it to what it is now. Very daunting. Changed Map, Multiple units in home bases… will be a great one to follow.
www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc210

Trout’s Imperial Diplomacy game, now the longest running game in DC. The big question is will it end in a solo or a draw?
www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc110

Mike’s huge 35 player world game. Domination of the world has begun and power alliances are forming all over the place.
www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc195

And that isust to name a few. I could have easily mentioned Steve’s mandate of heaven game (dc207), Vegas’s south east asia game (dc209) and Adam’s seismic (dc211) are all examples of the great variants being run in our club – and of course we are happy to have Vegas (Mike) back in the diplomaticcorp, Vegas was a player back in the day of Dc002.. Yes – game 2 and he was a master back then when I was a beginner. All of these games and more can be found on the ACTIVE GAMES tab.

YET we always need more GMs to run standards as well as these variants. Sometimes you can’t just past up a good standard now.

TOURNAMENTS

The Diplomaticcorp Invitational has finished round 1 (dc189) and is about to start round 2 (dc213 would be my guess!). Most of the players in this game were pretty happy with the outcome (a 6 way draw but tiered scoring going into round 2) and amazed at the level of competition. Our 10 players for this year’s DCI were Mike Sims (Winner DCI 2007), Dan Dzikowicz (best newcomer), Nigel Phillips (Winner Winter Blitz 200Cool, Lee Taylor, Mikael Johannson, Garry Bledsoe (moderator’s community choice), Clark Landry, Derek Eyler, Jorge Saralegui and Brian Lam. More information in the DCI can be found in the dipwiki entry! In fact nearly everything you want to know can be found somewhere in our dipwiki or variant bank.

The Winter Blitz 2nd annual tournament has already become it’s planning stage. This great tournament run at blitz pace will be coming to your diplomaticcorp website in January. Keep an eye on the home page for more information. In fact by now there should be a great banner somewhere waiting for you to click on it (Thanks to Paolo for this)

RATINGS SYTEM
Mike has finally attempted to explain the ratings system to us layman and all the information on your rating can be found here at

http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/info.php?type=ratings

I will confess that I don’t still understand all of it, but I am sure it makes sense to those more mathematically than me.

COMMUNITY
Finally (yes I know it is sad to see this newsletter end, I could just write all night), I would like to touch on the subject of community. We at DC don’t just want the site to be a gaming site where you play but don’t get involved. We want a community. And whilst our numbers continue to grow at an alarming and yet pleasing rate, we are all still trying to get along as a community. I know as a GM, I try to get to know my players but it is hard. The reluctance to give out too much personal information versus the general chat is something we are all aware of us in this modern world – but I have to say I have met some wonderful friends and enemies on DC. There are people that I email and keep in contact with, even though we aren’t in a game. In our modern, busy world… it is not a surprise to have a connection with some who you play and plot with. And of course you can’t help but be attached to friends who you’ve played against over 8 years or so. For all you new players out there – get to know the diplomaticcorp community (add me on facebook…hmm..maybe we should start a diplomaticcorp facebook group – NOTE to Mike, Trout… we should discuss this). I’ve met some fabulous people from Georgia this year (Hello to Rachael and Andy) and from Ireland (Hey Joe) and Italy (Signor Paolo) as well as keeping some old friends in contact (welcome back Jason B and Vegas) – and to everyone I have forgotten too mention.. I really do count some of these people as excellent friends of mine. But that community feel is very important to all of us, not just me. I remember last year I was so excited to get a letter from a diplomacy friend and a few years ago a Christmas card from Kevin in Canada. I love all these little touches that make us more than a game site but a gaming community.

Did you know that Jason K (dc202) has just finished running a diplomacy game in his office? They played seasons throughout the week and if someone was away – they just delayed. Now I don’t know what Jason does for a living but for a while there, 7 people were distracted enough from their job to play our fine hobby. AND what’s more they all want to play again. That’s fantastic. There’s talk of the Australian Diplomacy players who play face to face struggling with the hobby, so if you are in Australia and you want to play face to face diplomacy (as well as online with us!!) drop me a line and I can get you in contact with someone (that email again stevelytton(at)hotmail.com). In fact creating these small communities to play the occasional face to face game is great. Use the commonspace on the messageboard to get to know your fellow diplomaticorpites….

However with this community, comes a little bit of ownership. WE think it’s great that you join our site and then bring in a friend or 2, or a brother, cousin, wife etc… but we do ask that if you know someone in a real life situation or face to face – you should tell the GM if you are in the same game. That way – everyone in the game then knows that you know someone. I mean it doesn’t always help.. some of my closest friends stab the hardest and one of my friends in dc206 (Greg).. I actually find I talk to him more now that we’re in a game together so there was no benefit to us knowing each other in the first place – but it’s courtesy that we told the GM before the game started. After all, whilst you might want to stab your dear friend, or brother in the back in a diplomacy game, occassionaly there are people out there who don’t want to play against that – and they should have that choice.

So please invite your work colleagues, friends, family and wives to join our community – but remember to let us know and definitely let your GM know so that we can all enjoy the game.

Signing off now.

Dc-198 GMs Apology - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
I humbly beg you all to forgive me for not adjudicating this morning. It's my daughter's fourth birthday, and I foolishly didn't get to the adjudication before she woke up this morning. Since that time, I've spent the whole day catering to nearly her every whim (I'm a complete sucker.) I promise that I will get the adjudication out this evening, after she's abed. This slip on my part will not cut into your negotiation time - I'll push the deadline to guarantee *at least* 24 hours for winter (or autumn, if there are any retreats.)

So sorry,
The White Wolf

DC210: ADJUDICATION SPRING 1914 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
DIPLOMATICCORP DC210 - GREAT BALLS OF FIRE
1958 ORIGINAL GAME, 1958 ORIGINAL MAP, 3-SEASON GAME YEAR
ADJUDICATION SPRING 1914 (TURN 1)
MONDAY 29th SEPTEMBER 2008

[u:7771d8e050]PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE RECEIPT OF THIS ADJUDICATION[/u:7771d8e050]

GM Comment:

Everybody kicks off smoothly in a very different Europe from the one we are all used to.

As this is a commemorative game and rarely seen version then I'm going to go against my usual practise and give a game commentary. I will point out things of note, but not give my views on the the quality or advisibility of any orders.

I think this season could be called 'a general European mobilization'. No clashes yet - we can assume the Dutch coast guard didn't take on the Kaiserliche Marine. One thing to note is the 'army on board' (if you can read this sign you are too close) notation (the flag) on one of the Royal Navy's fleets and that all the multiple unit hexagonal symbols disappear for a while as units leave the capitals and naval bases. A difference from the standard game becomes apparent from turn 1 - the Royal Navy and Marine Nationale can't clash as so often happens. I'm not around for a few days from late (my time) Thursday, so I'm allowing a week for this second turn. Please don't leave any questions until the last minute.

[u:7771d8e050]Remember to also submit any potential retreat orders with your usual orders for the next turn.[/u:7771d8e050]
[u:7771d8e050]Preliminary orders are highly recommended.[/u:7771d8e050]
Please put the game number 'DC210', season, year and country in the subject line of any orders.
