DC141 Seven Sinners - Fall 1911 - Pages From A Jou... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The sands sift across the board but little else moves - an English army heads to Yorkshire and the Turkish forces line up along the Italian Peninsula. C'est tout - and with no centers changing hands we find ourselves skipping the winter turn and heading right into Spring 1912.

Order deadline will be set for Tuesday, July 29th (11:59 PM GMT). Cheers everyone!

Dc-184 Missing Orders - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Either way, it's up to you, but may I suggest that you NMR him this turn. He's been pretty active and alert so far, so this must be something that he cannot avoid or inform us of yet. I'm sure there's a good reason and hope he will let us know quickly. Just my thought...

And best wishes on Turkey surviving the plague...

Folks,
I'm missing orders for Russia (Ross.) If I don't
have them by 2pm CST tomorrow (Wednesday,) I'll have to
either NMR or replace Ross (I haven't decided which just
yet.)

I do agree with France. As well as that NMR-ing basically ruins the game.

A shame that ppl miss orders. But as I bet most of us play for the fun of it and not for winning - I'm sure the lot of us doesn't mind waiting a few extra days when one of us messes up. It could after all happen to all of us =D

Btw! Russia [u:de2e56839d]is[/u:de2e56839d] very alert - and I'm sure he's somehow just forgotten about it all.

Actually I do mind when people miss turns. So, don't presume to speak for me. And, given my dreadful position on the map, I have nothing to gain from a Russia nmr, so I'm probably the only objective player on the map.

DC177 Winter 1905 Results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I didn't receive anything from Russia, so his A Boh is auto-disbanded.
France continues the southernly seaward push with a build of F Mar.

The deadline for Spring 1906 will be this coming Monday, July 28, at 9
pm eastern. Mark your orders final if you want an early adjudication!

Note that, as this is the beginning of 1906, I will now accept
end-of-game proposals. Whenever you submit a proposal it will be
proposed with the next adjudication (of any kind), with the votes to be
due on the following movement (spring or fall) deadline. Feel free to
shoot me any questions.

My apologies for not sending in my disband. This was not an indication of a surrender from Russia, but ordinary sloppiness. Sorry to have to disappoint some of you.I was under the impression I had sent orders to disband BOH. Relieved to see that this is also the default.

DC 156, fall 1908 adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Well, three of you are still playing I guess..... no orders from Austria this time; Russia and France in CD. Too bad about Austria, because he seems to be getting support from various places.....

There are three retreats needed, two from Austria, and one from England. Frank, the adjudication in RP automatically disbands your armies when they don't receive orders, however I AM going to allow you retreats presuming you can get me orders. So the adjudication shows your armies in Budapest and Rumania holding.

Please get in touch with me as soon as you can. I am travelling myself, and will have shaky access for the next two days until I get to where I'm headed. So retreats will be due in two days, on Friday, July 25, 21:00 MDT.

My sincere apologies to everyone for not submitting my orders.I was so sure I had submitted them to Warren last week but since Warren hasn't received anything and I can't find anything in my mailbox either, I must have messed up.
I feel deeply ashamed and don't know what to say to my allies who were ready to support me this Fall and who have seen their efforts gone to waste.
But I'm still in and prepared to make the best of it.

DC176 - Spring 1907 Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Spring 1907 has a big surprise: no orders from Austria.
But there is even a bigger surprise: despite its NMR Austria doesn't loose any ground in any of the attacks it's under.
How? Because of Russian troops cutting the support for the Italian attack on Bulgaria. Twice!
Another important event is the bold move of the last German unit. It has ensured Germany of a life beyond 1907.

Resulting moves are as follows:

Austria:
no moves received

England:
F Belgium - English Channel (*Fails*)
F Denmark - Sweden
F Edinburgh Supports F London - North Sea
A Holland - Ruhr (*Fails*)
A Liverpool Hold
F London - North Sea
F St Petersburg(nc) - Barents Sea

France:
F Irish Sea Supports F North Sea - English Channel
F North Atlantic Ocean - Clyde
F North Sea - English Channel
F Norway Supports A Moscow - St Petersburg
A Paris - Gascony

Germany:
A Marseilles - Spain

Italy:
A Albania - Serbia (*Fails*)
F Black Sea Supports F Greece - Bulgaria(sc) (*Cut*)
A Constantinople Supports F Greece - Bulgaria(sc) (*Cut*)
F Greece - Bulgaria(sc) (*Fails*)

Russia:
A Berlin Supports A Kiel
A Kiel Supports A Munich - Ruhr
A Moscow - St Petersburg
A Munich - Ruhr
F Sevastopol - Black Sea (*Fails*)
A Smyrna - Constantinople (*Fails*)
A Warsaw - Silesia

No retreats required so we can move to Fall 1907.
Deadline is Tuesday 7/29, at 23:00 GMT.

dc188 - Spring 1903 - Results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
GAME NOTES:
I apologize for the short delay. I was too focused on my slow-pitch softball championship game last night to think of Diplomacy. My team, the Master Batters, pulled off an unthinkable comeback... scoring 7 runs after being down 6 runs with two outs in the last inning... and I celebrated into the wee hours of the morning. It was a great game, played by two great teams in a fitting fashion near the shores of Lake Michigan.

Alas, we are back to the game. There is only one retreat with only available option for retreat. So unless the Turk tells me to disband... I will retreat his unit to Ankara. We'll continue on.

Diplomacy in Texas - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
In an effort to build a stronger network of players in Texas, and with
the long-term goal of building Texas Diplomacy event large and small,
I've created a Yahoo group for players in Texas, and in surrounding
areas (such as Texarkana, AR; Oklahoma; and western Louisiana). If
you'd like to join this free group, you can do so at:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/texas-diplomacy/

Even if you are not currently interested in attending such face-to-
face events, come join the discussion if you live in Texas, so we can
succeed in building the network of local clubs.

WOW! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Now Austria has stepped down?

It appears to me that it is difficult to renegotiate with new players at each turn. and the new players may or may not be hostile.

now that my vent is over, are there ever cases of players changing powers and does the community have issues with players pulling out too often?
I'm just curious.

Replacements - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
David,

It's a common and recurring problem that is encountered by most diplomacy clubs that run online. No matter how many times you stress to new players that the game is often a 6-12 month committment there are always going to be players that drop out - or there could always be something that comes up in a player's real life committments that just has to take priority.

Whilst it is up to every GM whether or not he chooses to replace the player (my personal preference is to place the country in CD, yet many Gms will adopt their own preference) there are steps that we as a community can take to reduce the impact.

The player could attempt to seek a replacement player for the period of the vacation or absence, given some stability to the position. The player could also submit moves and conditional moves and retreats to try and cover the deadline period.

if a player does seem to abandon a position - then we as moderators will keep a record of that player so that when they join their next game, we can raise the issue to the GM if needed or ask the player in question if the reason for the abandonment has been resolved.

However - there is not one solution.

Perhaps the old should conspire against the new?
