AW: DC406: Fall 07 Final! - laxrulz777 (Jun 12, 2012, 4:10 pm) |
I think Mike just revealed to us his intricate (and well crafted!) plan to take over the Haven world through the use of flying ogres cleverly gained through the use of realworld hacks... Should we applaud this behavior or chastise him for his clearly manipulative behavior
on a separate note, flying ogres sound cool

Mike, you have to back up the turn (shift-tab) branch it (ctrl-b) then change the W Dev to an A Dev. Then resolve the results again. In Realworld (which this is - not realpolitik) you can actually build variants using the Wing unit. This is a unit that can move anywhere land or sea but can't capture centers. The map shows an army cuz I put the W units and the A units as both having the same icon.

I actually have no clue how the W got in there instead of an A. That list is a straight c-n-p from the RW program. I'll check it tonight when I get home.
That being said, the message did go out after midnight and I was falling asleep while writing it, so I'm surprised half the orders didn't get erased.

Diplomats, dc404 is now finished! The five-way draw was unanimously supported by the five remaining players. Enclosed is the final map for your viewing pleasure. It's been a pleasure bringing this game to a close; if any of you have comments or suggestions for how I might improve my GMing, please do let me know.
And if there is interest, I have an open spot in DC428 for anyone wanting to take over a four-center Italy in 1902.
Thanks very much for the pleasure of your company,

Thanks to everybody, especially to Éamon for taking charge.
Finally the war is over and we can move on. I must say this was the
worst Dip I've ever played due to the numerous NMRs. The only
amusement I had was the early communication with Gerry. I don't
remember much of the game nor do I want to remember.
Like Gerry wrote, the Western front was pretty much two alliances
fighting each other. As I saw England was going to be eliminated I
decided to let him down. Never believed Gerry/Germany would break
the deal with Russia, but wanted to give him a chance. (FYI, Gerry,
I had a backup plan, but it's not public...)
Anyway, sorry Michael about the stab. Had I known this game would
end like this, you'd be alive. '
I'll take a break for the summer, but I'll be back on DipCorp in the
Fall.
Cheers,
Jyri

DC404 Russia End
of Game:
Leaders of
DC404,
It was a
pleasure, despite all, and I do really hope to play against any of you again in
the future.
First, a
Big thanks to Eamon for taking over out game.
I really appreciate it. I wish
for us and for you the game would have played all the way out. I liked your style and graphics - very cool. Keep the flags! I know you have only done a few games, but you
will be a great GM.
Second, a
thanks to Mike, our original GM. Hope
all is well - sorry you had to drop, whatever the reason. Life can do that.
For the
players:
I did not
mean to be such a doofus there at the end with my idea about keeping the game
going. I have actually been playing in
Diplomatic Corp since the beginning about 12 years ago. I have had a great time, but far, far too few
solos. I tend to make a solid coalition
partner who ends in victorious draws.
For this game, I was going for a solo for a change, as the game was
meant to be. That is why I really wanted
to keep going despite all the turmoil. However,
it took a few rants I could realize DC404 was just beyond salvage. No problem - and thanks to all for even
entertaining my last shot.
What that
really means is --- despite appearances ----
I was going to stab the hell out of Gerry when it could really make a
difference for me. I know Jyri (France) and
Mikael (England) would find that hard to believe as many times as I politely
refused to turn to the dark side, but I was ...like a true diplomat when/if the
time proved right. The catch is that
Gerry, like a true Gerry (German) was about the best (apparent) ally I could
get. We were spot-on allies like Jyri
and Mikael were - hence the tough as nails pace up north. I agree with Gerry in that we were getting through
due to good play and some luck. I think
we would have had England and then France.
Based on
the other EOGs, looks like most likely Gerry and I would have both got a bunch
of E/F centers, then he was certainly going to be gunning for me, and I for him
as I assume Gerry was also going for a solo.
I wish we could have played that out to the end.
Hamish,
thanks for playing the abandoned Austria. I know what you mean
- it is always fun to take over an abandoned power to see what you can make of
it. Don't worry about the apologies -
not necessary. We all have those days. I never understood exactly what happened, but
I may well have made an incorrect order, but rest assured when the stab came,
and I hope it would have, it would have been spectacular. Of course, that goes the other way as well,
you were fast as big and bigger than I was, plus more concentrated. I was in for a run for my money with a two
front war for sure. I hope I did not
ruin the whole experience for you - you were a fun ally with good spirit. The fun would really have come if you and I
could have really gone for stabs later in the game - or allied against Germany
even. Of course we had Italy and Turkey
to destroy first!
Speaking
of which, Erik, you were a sporting ally and enemy. You had a good stab, probably just a little
too early. Once it was done, it was
done. You got up into Sev, and I was
thinking I was dead if not for the fact that Gerry still slightly needed
me. His Belgium stab probably kept him
from turning on me like Kirstie Alley on a jelly doughnut. I could not see any advantage to turning back
to ally with you, but then I did not figure on Hamish getting so big so fast
either. Hope to see both of you again
soon.
Kristian,
- fun playing with you too. I was
constantly trying to get either original Austria or Turkey or both or someone
to attack you as well. And of course I
was trying to get your help in beating back Austria and Turkey half the time
too. Would have been interesting to see
how that might have worked out.
Anyway,
that is long I know, but I put a lot of time into this and it was a good
time. Hope to battle again in the
future, you guys are all professionals and very decent dippers.

We have a proposal for a five-way draw: A/F/G/I/R! You have until the Fall 1911 adjudication to submit your approval or disapproval. Abstention will be regarded as a vote against the proposal. If all active players give me their decisions prior to the deadline (e.g. Winter 1910) I will release the results sooner. Turkey NMRs and has lost all supply centers; therefore I have disbanded both armies, and we proceed to Winter. Italy and Austria each have a build, but Austria has nowhere to build. I will adjudicate promptly upon receipt of the Italian build order.
Winter 1910 deadline is 14th June, 9:00pm US Central Time, or 15th June, 02:00 GMT.

DC428 Spring 1902 Orders - Zoterik (Jun 12, 2012, 9:04 am) |
Utterly fascinating. After the last adjudication I would have wagered good money that the invasion of Russia was at hand. Instead, it's the exact opposite. We have some more Press this turn, first from Switzerland, second from Russia. Italy NMRs for the second consecutive season and goes into Civil Disorder. I will post a notice on the DC forums advertising the position, but for the Fall 1902 turn, Italian units and supply centers are impassable unless I find a replacement soon.
The Turkish army in Bulgaria is dislodged and has no valid retreat. It is disbanded and we proceed past Summer 1902 and on to Fall 1902. The deadline is 9:00pm CST on 16th June, which is 02:00 GMT on 17th June.
Zürcher Zeitung: My dear Prime Minister, our Norwegians are loyal of course, why do you ask?
Pravda: Do not listen to the vile Sultan's propaganda. Anyone who has communicated with me, the Tsar, knows that I am more than diplomatic in my conduct with other leaders of the world. Bullying and coercing have never been part of the Russian agenda. Unfortunately, from the start of our negotiations it was clear that the Sultan could not be reasoned with. He is unstable, fickle and prone to irrational decisions. Any who trust him now: be careful! His words of friendship will be revealed as the deceit that they are soon enough. Russia deeply regrets this turn of events. But we will do whatever it takes to protect our glorious homeland. And in this case, that will mean the end of the Turkish oppressors, once and for all!

DC421 TURKEY END OF GAME STATEMENT
Many thanks to Chris for solid GM work, slogging away while we had all the fun. The quick tournament deadlines make that extra tricky. Also, kudos to the whole crew for great participation. Very few NMRs. This was my first Winter Blitz, and I really enjoyed it. So thanks.
I have to hand it to Dorian and Hugh for sticking together and stopping the juggernaut. As you can see, Hamish and I were not about to crack, and it took some canny play by Hugh and a solid ally in Dorian to turn us back in the North.
The great disappointment in the game for me was being stabbed by Philip (Italy) after we had a secure foothold in French home territory. We could have had it all! Then again, it was my mistake to not consider all the possibilities, and I left myself open to the stab. Great diplomacy by Dorian in pulling that off.
It was great working with Hamish -- I think both of us were a bit overcome by life/work by mid-game, but for all that it was a good alliance, and I'd do the same thing again-- though I might at least try to hide it.
Hugh-- you crack me up man. Next time we're in the same game I'll totally take you up on the solo offer.

Thanks first of all to Chris for an excellent job of GMing! A thankless task, I know, and always under-appreciated.
An enjoyable game, with some ups and downs. I decided early on to go with Hugh as an ally, and despite some temptations, and some annoyance at the sheer volume
of his press J I stuck with that, and since he did too, we had a deal. Rob, I feel somewhat
bad that it didn’t work out between us, but there’s always another game? Philip and I never really trusted each other which I understand. It is a pity, but the might have beens were greater than the what actually happened! A pity!
Congratulations to Hamish on an excellent game. The name of the game was always to stalemate your advances, so well played.

Subject: DC421 - GAME OVER
Gentlemen,
I am pleased to announce that we have unanimous agreement on the following end-game proposal:
4-way Draw including France, Germany, Russia and Turkey.
You may all congratulate you on a well-earned 1/4 victory! Austria gets credit as a survivor.
Neither of the other two proposals (FT 2-way and DIAS) received unanimous Yes votes.
I'm looking forward to your end of game statements. Please publish directly to the group and you can include the blitzforum, as well.
I'll have comments at a future time. For now, thanks to everyone for an exceptionally smooth-running game. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves
and are looking forward to doing it again next year.
Cheers,
Chris

First things first, both of the endgame proposals fail, so the game continues... No centers change hands this turn. Germany steamrolls the Russian army in Prussia. Austria pushes toward both Sevastopol and Venice. Germany takes advantage of the Italian NMR and gains the North Sea. Two units are dislodged, but only one has a retreat available:
The Italian fleet in North Sea may retreat to Edinburgh, Helgoland Bight, Norwegian Sea, Skagerrak, Yorkshire, or OTB.
The Russian army in Prussia has no valid retreats and is destroyed. Since the Italian fleet has multiple retreat options, we'll have a summer 1910 retreat phase. Marc, your retreat order is due tomorrow, Tuesday 6/12 at 3pm Central (US) /

Mike, you have to back up the turn (shift-tab) branch it (ctrl-b) then change the W Dev to an A Dev. Then resolve the results again. In Realworld (which this is – not realpolitik) you can actually build variants using the Wing unit. This is a unit that can move anywhere land or sea but can’t capture centers. The map shows an army cuz I put the W units and the A units as both having the same icon.-mike From: Mike Hoffman [mailto:mrh(at)panix.com]

I actually have no clue how the W got in there instead of an A. That list is a straight c-n-p from the RW program. I'll check it tonight when I get home.
That being said, the message did go out after midnight and I was falling asleep while writing it, so I'm surprised half the orders didn't get erased.

Evenin' Gents!
Thanks for getting those orders in
on time. Now we (meaning me) can post this season and proceed with my
thrill-a-minute weekend!
Received a good question today
about end-game proposals. The gist of it was "What happens if more than
one proposal passes?" I thought I knew the answer, but when I checked
the WB rules on-line, I found that the issue was not
addressed. I tried to punt the ball over to Mike Sims for an ruling,
but he just quick-kicked it back to me and told me to make a decision.
Okay, then:
By
GM's decree, if more than one end-game proposal is approved
by the eligible voters, then the "winner" will be the
proposal that includes the FEWEST number of players.
So, a solo beats a
draw, and after that it is the draw with the fewest number of powers.
If more than one proposal passes and the number of included powers is equal, then there is NO RESULT and we play on.
PENDING END-GAME PROPOSALS
We have one new proposal to add to the two from yesterday. Please include your votes with your Spring orders.
1. 2-way draw with France and Turkey
2. 4-way draw with
France, Germany, Russia and Turkey
3. DIAS - draw including all survivors (5 players)
ADJUSTMENTS
Austria:
Remove A Tyrolia
France:
Build A Paris
Germany:
Build A Berlin
Italy:
Remove A Piedmont
Turkey:
Build A Ankara
Build A Constantinople
Build F Smyrna
NEXT DEADLINE: Spring orders and votes are due Monday, June 11, by 18:00 Eastern time.
Cheers,
