dc423 spring 04 - catsfather   (Apr 30, 2012, 1:08 pm)
Tactical retreat from Turkey? The end of Russia approaching? The end
of England? And will Tunis finally fall ... what?!
No retreats, so fall orders due on Thursday at 18:00GMT.
It is most likely that the winter deadline will NOT be 18:00GMT on
Friday, but 06:00GMT on Saturday morning. Does anyone have a problem
with that? The next spring deadline could also be pushed back if you
require. Sorry, but that Friday evening I'm running out from the
coast of Fife and into the Firth of Forth ... as I'm sure all normal
residents of Edinburgh do.

DC 424 Spring 04 Results - untitled36   (Apr 30, 2012, 9:53 am)
*French Army Trades Wine for Survival*
*English Miss Key Order, Doesn't Affect Much*
*Italians, Austrians Find Weak Link in Russian Line*
*Budapest and Belgium - All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go!*

Hey all,

This was a season of supports in the southeast, with 11 units giving support. Consequently, little change happened in that region, except that the Italians destroy the Russian Army in Budapest. meanwhile, the Italians slide into Portugal while the french get into Brest. The English lose the North Sea, which is probably the single biggest news this turn, but while England clearly intended to go to NWY, he failed to submit the order. Fortunately(?) Norway was vacated, and is an available retreat option. This was a tough turn for the Brits, with losses in Bre, Bel, and Nth.

Four units were dislodged, but two (Bud and Bel) have no valid retreat. English F Bre can go to Mao or Eng (or OTB). Nth has all kinds of options: Eng, Hel, Ska, Nwy, edi, yor, or OTB. Though, obviously, retreating both fleets to eng would result in disbanding them both.

Retreats due tomorrow at 8:00 AM CST (13:00 GMT)

John

Games in Eternal Sunshine - diplomacyworld   (Apr 29, 2012, 8:35 am)
Hey folks, while I struggle through my usual awful play here, I run some games in my free monthly Diplomacy zine Eternal Sunshine. This is a free ezine, but in the old "postal" playing style in that it contains a bunch of other stuff besides games, and turns are once a month. More personality and comraderie, but less speed.

My game opening list right now includes Diplomacy, Youngstown IV, Narnian Wars, Aberration V, and Balkan Wars VI. Also some fun non-Diplomacy contests, and I'm offering a game of Kremlin.

If you'd like to see the latest issue, the direct pdf link is:

http://www.whiningkentpigs.com/DW/es64.pdf

Check it out and maybe join in the fun!

Oh, and don't forget we always need new material for Diplomacy World (www.diplomacyworld.net) where the next deadline is July 1.

DC421 - Autumn/Winter 1903 Results **CORRECTED** - Corrino   (Apr 28, 2012, 11:32 am)
Hi Guys,
Your GM screwed up and failed to post Germany's build orders.  Not sure what happened -- I just spaced out and "processed" them without entering the build in Realpolitik.  Apologies to all, especially Hugh.
Correct adjustments are as follows.  Amended DPY and GIF are attached and will be posted to DC site momentarily.

Austria:  Build A Vienna
Germany:  Build waived
Italy:  Remove A Venice
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Guys,
Best wishes for a great weekend!

PRESS # 1
Press from Turkey (autumn/winter 1903): I would like to publicly
apologize to the peoples of Bulgaria for confusing their country with
Constantinople. This was a clerical error, and the parties involved are
currently on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
Thank you for your understanding as we all work through this unfortunate
and, frankly, embarassing incident. The damage has been done, and now
is a time for healing. (I should note, in my defense, that I actually
did label it as F Con in the orders I submitted, not A Con. I knew it
was a fleet, I just didn't know where it was.)
PRESS # 2
Germany hangs on, Russia hangs in there, will Italy/AH hang together or separately, Italy about to be hung out to dry!
RETREATS:

Russia:   A Norway - St Petersburg

ADJUSTMENTS:
Austria:  Build A Vienna
Germany:  Build waived
Italy:  Remove A Venice

NEXT DEADLINE:  Spring 1904 orders are due Monday, April 30, by 18:00 Eastern time.

DC 420: Draw Proposal?!? - AceRimmer   (Apr 27, 2012, 10:01 pm)
The normal rule with endgame proposals is that they should be submitted at least one adjudication ahead -- i.e., before the Summer retreats for a Fall proposal or before the Winter adjustments for a Spring proposal.  However, the Turkish solo proposal is in soon enough on Friday that -- what the heck! -- let's have a vote on Monday.
To pass, the proposal would require seven Yes votes, zero No votes, and zero abstentions (as I think you all know).  *Proposing* an end to the game does not equate to *voting* in favor of it.

Publicly submitted votes are official.  Of course, all players may subsequently reverse their votes in private.  As with orders, the most recent set is the official set.
Regardless, I will never make your votes
public, not even after the game.
Should the endgame proposal fail in the Spring, I will immediately adjudicate Spring orders.
Adam

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."

"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

No retreats from England. No removals from Russia. Is removals the word?
France builds fleets In Bre and Mar.
Germany builds armies in Kie and Ber.
Turkey builds armies in Con and Ank.
The Russian fleet in Bot is disbanded. It's an equal distance from
the army in Gal from any home centres, but it's a fleet and it is
first in dictionary order.
Any questions, or complaints then please contact me.
Hamish

And I'll propse that we accellerate this process and put that to a vote - for a Turkish solo.  The rest of us get survivial points.  That is the expected result for R and A.  Probably for E as well.  Maybe me, and above expectationsf for I and G.
