DC 409: Fall 1906 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Mar 01, 2012, 2:51 pm)
I do suspect that, as this game 'simplifies' it is getting more complicated rather than less. Turkey supports Austria. Austria supports Germany (while giving way to the Kaiser in Silesia and Galicia). Germany supports Italy. There is an enormous bounce in Trieste (six units involved). France occupies the North Sea (says he's claiming it for the 99%). And the result?
Well, first of all, we must say "do svedanya" to Russia. After a couple of unfortunate early NMR undermined his position, Mr. Marshall played gamely to the end, but (fittingly) goes out for good on one last NMR.
There are also two auto-retreats.
The Russian army in St. Petersburg disbands (having no supply centers to justify its existence).
The Turkish fleet in Gulf of Lyon retreats to Tuscany (though, of course, it can disband/rebuild).
The end tally is a quiet two-build Winter from Germany and Turkey:
Austria: Supp 3 Unit 3 Build 0
France: Supp 9 Unit 9 Build 0
Germany: Supp 8 Unit 7 Build 1
Italy: Supp 4 Unit 4 Build 0
Turkey: Supp 10 Unit 9 Build 1
Orders are due tomorrow.

Fall 1906:

A Bohemia - Vienna
A Moscow Supports A Warsaw
A Warsaw Supports A Silesia - Galicia
France:
F Brest - Mid-Atlantic Ocean
A Burgundy Hold
F English Channel - North Sea

Hey all,

Another exciting turn! Russia is still hanging on with one center. England has two. And Turkey has three. Germany fared rather well and remains a five center power. Lots of disbands and builds this season. But prior to that we have a retreat. Italian F Aeg can only retreat to Gre or Otb. I assumed Gre and the dpy shows as such. As always, that can change, and builds/disbands can be made dependent on that choice.

Here's the Winter totals:
Austria: +1
England: -1
France: +1
Germany: even
Italy: +2 (or +3 if Aeg retreats OTB)
Russia: -1
Turkey: -1

See ya tomorrow!!!

Re: - Blueraider0   (Mar 01, 2012, 11:26 am)
Ben,
I see your point in the Med, which is why I opted to move MAO to Wes instead of NAO (which would've been planned to go against Scandinavia, and would've been useful against this rogue German unit).  But that unit, (Which, by the way, was a very good move by Sam) will only harass my lines.  It will be something I can deal with in my own time.  Like I said, I don't expect the solo to pass this turn, just wanted to get the conversation started.  Once I see a solo is actually out of reach, I'll have no problem voting for a draw involving other players.  I hope, by the same token, that if I secure the solo, the surviivng players will vote to give me the solo, which will save time and ensure we end the game agreeably.

Justin,
I'm sorry this game hasn't been much fun for you. I can point you to your e-mail signature:
Certainly the game is rigged. Don't let that stop you; if you don't bet, you can't win.  But also, I commend you for not NMRing.  Lesser players would become frustrated and decide to walk away.  Good dedication.

Actually, fun fact - we've had NO NMRs, despite France being kicked early and Italy being paralyzed for much of the game.  Actually, as I recall, I think there was an NMR.  Well, none that've been recorded on the game site on DC.  Maybe I'm wrong.  But if not, that's damn impressive!

Not going to happen.  You can't hold Tunis, in fact you're two fleets

short of what's needed to cork the Mediterranean, and you can't afford

to divert them from the north in time.  Turkish/Italian fleets

outnumber you 2-1 in the Mediterranean.  Venice is also beyond your

reach - even if Austria helped you capture it in the spring, Italy can

ensure a recapture in the fall with the right builds.

Not to mention, you'll have to dedicate at least one if not two fleets

in the north to deal with a rampaging German fleet that just slipped

through the net.  So 18 is out of reach I think - you will likely get

to about 15-16 before you're taking losses in the south, but then it

should be a irreversible decline until we reach a balance of power

again.

Not that I will get away clean either - to keep Italy and Germany on

board, I will have to cede dots to them/pass the majority of spoils to

them in order to keep the alliance together.  So I won't be walking

away with a solo either.

As for Russia and Austria, neither is long for this world.  You will

surely turn on Russia sooner rather than later for his remaining dot,

and Austria will be down to a single SC by the end of this year.  That

said, both have played tenacious defense under extremely difficult

circumstances - I would be perfectly happy and honored to share in the

draw with them as well, which is why I proposed the DIAS along with

the FGIT.  They've earned it.

Otherwise, they'll be eliminated soon, and FGIT will be the DIAS, as I

intend to cede dots to both Germany and Italy as needed to keep them

in the game.  Neither will be eliminated, even if it means Germany

survives in Smyrna (that would be interesting to do just to see it

happen Smile

All that said, you've played an outstanding game - far and away the

leader on the board, nobody's questioning that.  But the solo is out

of reach unless Italy, Germany and I fall apart.

No to both.  Why are Russia and Austria not involved in the other draw?

Because Turkey has been unable to rally them to his cause.

General plea to all:  A French solo is inevitable.  This coming year I will

take Tunis.  Germany is mine.  His lack of fleets gives him little hope of

defense.  Turkey cannot get there fast enough to help him nor get there fast

enough to pick up the centers.

I do not expect the French solo will pass this turn.  The board looks open.

But once Kiel and Berlin are mine, I do hope we all vote for the solo,

rather than make the game drag out.  After all, at that point Scandinavia

and StP are tactically guarunteed, and with Tunis, that makes 18.

-Maslow

Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know

passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come.

And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the

small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know

now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they

didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."

"What are we holding onto, Sam?"

*Everyone Survives!*
*St. Pete Remains English after Standoff!*
*Six Home Centers Change Hands!*

For what it's worth, at this point I will vote yes to anything. This
has been
probably the most frustrating game of diplomacy I have ever played, and
I want it
ended.

Not to mention, you'll have to dedicate at least one if not two
fleets
in the north to deal with a rampaging German fleet that just slipped
through the net. So 18 is out of reach I think - you will likely get
to about 15-16 before you're taking losses in the south, but then it
should be a irreversible decline until we reach a balance of power
again.

Not that I will get away clean either - to keep Italy and Germany on
board, I will have to cede dots to them/pass the majority of spoils
to
them in order to keep the alliance together. So I won't be walking
away with a solo either.

As for Russia and Austria, neither is long for this world. You will
surely turn on Russia sooner rather than later for his remaining dot,
and Austria will be down to a single SC by the end of this year.
That
said, both have played tenacious defense under extremely difficult
circumstances - I would be perfectly happy and honored to share in
the
draw with them as well, which is why I proposed the DIAS along with
the FGIT. They've earned it.

Otherwise, they'll be eliminated soon, and FGIT will be the DIAS, as
I
intend to cede dots to both Germany and Italy as needed to keep them
in the game.

DC406: Fall 03 retreats - offdisc   (Feb 29, 2012, 11:07 pm)
Hi all,
Retreats are in!

Archers: A Critter Country - Groves of Academe
Nomads: A Walk of Clouds - To-Gai-Ru
Pirates: A Never Never Land - The High Way
Undead: A Skullcap - Uhl Belk
Wizards: disband F Valley of Lost Honor

And we LEAP into Winter 02.
In the US, the political landscape is fired up.
The Republicans are all over the place, and Super Tuesday is around the corner.
Mitt Romney just won 2 strong caucuses!  Rick Santorum showed strength enough to keep going.

Newt Gingrich fell back, but knows there is always a chance.
And if only the Reps could resurrect Ronald Reagan, but alas, the dead are dead.
(These statements do not reflect the opinions of anyone involved in this game)

And with that short, skewed view of politics, we present the adjustments.

"Taps" plays for the Centaurs and the Elves.
Thanks to Hamish and Phil! (Guys, I will keep you on the list until you tell me to remove)

No to both.  Why are Russia and Austria not involved in the other draw?  Because Turkey has been unable to rally them to his cause.
General plea to all:  A French solo is inevitable.  This coming year I will take Tunis.  Germany is mine.  His lack of fleets gives him little hope of defense.  Turkey cannot get there fast enough to help him nor get there fast enough to pick up the centers.

I do not expect the French solo will pass this turn.  The board looks open.  But once Kiel and Berlin are mine, I do hope we all vote for the solo, rather than make the game drag out.  After all, at that point Scandinavia and StP are tactically guarunteed, and with Tunis, that makes 18.

Re: (dc402) Kenshi777 Mar 01, 04:15 am

For what it's worth, at this point I will vote yes to anything. This
has been
probably the most frustrating game of diplomacy I have ever played, and
I want it
ended.

Re: (dc402) Blueraider0 Mar 01, 11:26 am
Ben,
I see your point in the Med, which is why I opted to move MAO to Wes instead of NAO (which would've been planned to go against Scandinavia, and would've been useful against this rogue German unit).

-Maslow

Ogres, Hobbits, and Dwarves (the little and the large) submit perfection!
Whereas, the Rogues and Undead feel the Fury that Hell hath.

I misread one of the German orders... which leaves German armies in Berlin and Burgundy instead of Prussia and Munich.  Sorry about that, Maslow! This change does not affect the two units that were dislodged in the initial results I sent yesterday, so I'll go ahead with the retreat orders as they currently stand.  However, I am willing to give Scott some time to revise his summer retreat order if necessary.  Scott, can you please let me know quickly if you want to change that retreat order?  If so, we can stick to the normal fall deadline. Fall 1906 orders will be due Thursday 3/1 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT. Cory P.S.  I didn't save a GIF file of the revised spring
