HEADLINE: The Slumbering Giant pushed back!
Russian armies were stunned when the combined Austrian forces not only
repelled their attack into Serbia, but were able to force their armies out of
the Budapest. Meanwhile Russia fared better in the north as English naval
support helped them to secure Sweden. Meanwhile in the southern climates Italian
naval forces advanced into the Western Mediterranean and the Tyrrhenian Sea
while French forces, again with the help of the Austrians pushed deeper into the
Italian peninsula. England's fleets began to mobilize as well, several with one
of them landing and claiming Holland from the Germans. Meanwhile Turkey remained
mostly motionless, the armies in Bulgaria and Constantinople apparently at a
standstill, leading to speculation that the commanders are in fact zombie lords
pausing for a snack of brains.
In foreign news, allegations have been made that several US Senators have
been victims of zombie attacks. "Look, they have no brains!" one doctor
exclaimed. However, others were quick to point out that in no way was an
abnormal characteristic and doctors are re-examining the Senators looking for
more relevant signs, such as bite marks.

DC 373: Fall 1910 Retreats - AceRimmer (Aug 12, 2011, 5:08 pm) |
Had a couple of late orders...
Apulia is a popular place. But since you cannot share, neither one of you gets it. Instead, the GM will keep it for himself. Yum, yum, yum, yum. Delicioso!
Austria:
A Galicia - Budapest
A Rumania - Serbia
A Venice - Apulia (*Bounce*)
Germany:
A Warsaw - Livonia
Italy:
F Naples - Apulia (*Bounce*)
So, that leaves us with:
Austria: Supp 6 Unit 6 Build 0
England: Supp 14 Unit 8 Build 3
France: Supp 7 Unit 7 Build 0
Germany: Supp 3 Unit 5 Remove 2
Italy: Supp 1 Unit 1 Build 0
Russia: Supp 3 Unit 2 Build 0
Having already received orders, I can adjudicate that, too:
Germany disband A Tyrolia and F Holland
England builds triple fleets
Spring 1911 will be due on Thursday.
There are *two* EOG proposals:
EFG draw
English solo

I am sure Dirk is counting on the continued lack of orders coming in from AIR. If that were reversed his position is not solid enough to get the solo. England is actually short of fleets, we outnumber him there, and he needs them to his territory, so a quick fleet offensive by the combined resistance coming out of the Med could quickly nock him back on his heels. While that develops all we need to do is hold the line on the continent.
Matt,
I am in.

Hey Jack, everyone,
I'm sure it was England holding up the EFG draw, considering. I can't say Dirk's stab was completely unexpected. Having looked at the board from his perspective, especially with the minimal role we crafted for him on this turn, I may have tried the same thing. Myself I considered sending out an e-mail, and/or making moves to prevent that type of betrayal. But it would have taken away from our joint effort against Austria. And (in my limited Dip experience), I've had the opposite problem that Dirk has - a tendency to go for the solo rather than stick with me allies. Anyway, Jack, if you are willing (and allowed) to take back your OTB retreats, I believe we can stop England from getting the solo and perhaps force a four-way draw.
So what I'm proposing is first a cessation of hostilities between Austria/France/Germany/Italy/Russia. If Russia wants to get back in the game, we might even be able to help him back into some of his home territory. Jack if you retreat Rumania to Bulgaria & Galicia to Ukraine, disbanding Venice, then in the Spring you could order Vienna-Budapest & Trieste-Serbia. This would protect you from further English aggression and allow you to take back Rumania in the Fall.
In the meantime France can move all his units west, and I'll move all my units north and west, back into Germany. I'll also retreat Warsaw-Livonia. This will should allow me to take St Petersburg in the Fall.
England will be able to take Portugal at some point, and likely will seize Berlin or Holland this turn. Unless one of us is working with Dirk, helping him towards the solo, then I'm sure we can stop him, force a draw.
How does that sound?

Roll up for a good ol' game of Shift-Right! - jerome777 (Aug 11, 2011, 3:10 pm) |
Come on you lot - there's a game of Shift-Right available for you to get your teeth stuck into in the Open Games section of our site!
This is a relatively rare run-out for the classic 70s variant, involving a long trek home before being able to retake and defend one's home centres. It's a big challenge trying to work out how to get one's units home with the help of your 'allies'... Will you get home in time to build? Or will your 'allies' win the race?
There's three spots left to fill - get in there early to avoid disappointment!

People who run straight home ruin the game & should just play Standard. Can win w/o ever getting home if play well. Interedict/destroy others as 1 disband critical early. Again: if want to run home then play just play Standard. |

"If you must break the law, do it to seize power: in all other cases observe it."
- Julius Caesar
"Et tu, Brute!"
- The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare
English units figuratively cross the Rubicon... and literally cross the Guadalquivir and the Vilaine and the Elbe and the Stora and the Vistula and the Prut. It is a jolly good show. Quite, quite. Six units claim supply centers; the other two offer support. A Triumph is scheduled in Trafalgar Square for this Saturday, where a column with a statue of Lord Dirk will be erected in celebration.
Eastern Europe (Austria, Italy, and Russia) languidly emits a yawn. The units of all three nations hold.
Meanwhile, France and Germany continue to busy themselves with marching their units away from England. With his gains in Naples and Venice, France will not need to disband this winter.
Oh, by the way, the draw proposal fails. But a new end-game proposal emerges:
"Ye gods, it doth amaze me,
A man of such a feeble temper should
So get the start of the majestic world,
And bear the palm alone."
There is a proposal for an English solo. All votes will be due with the Spring orders next week.
Meanwhile, there are retreats. Lots of ???em.
Austrian Army Galicia may retreat to Budapest, Ukraine, or OTB
Austrian Army Rumania may retreat to Budapest, Bulgaria, Serbia, or OTB
Austrian Army Venice may retreat to Apulia or OTB
German Army Warsaw may retreat to Livonia, Silesia, Ukraine, or OTB
Italian Fleet Naples may retreat to Apulia or OTB
[Note that I am *not* auto-retreating Venice or Naples, as the only retreat available to both of them is Apulia... you might want to negotiate that].
Retreats are due tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. CST.
Then, there will be adjustments, which (before OTB retreats) stand as:
Austria: Supp 6 Unit 7 Remove 1
England: Supp 14 Unit 8 Build 3
France: Supp 7 Unit 7 Build 0
Germany: Supp 3 Unit 5 Remove 2
Italy: Supp 1 Unit 2 Remove 1
Russia: Supp 3 Unit 2 Build 0

Hey Jack, everyone,
I'm sure it was England holding up the EFG draw, considering. I can't say Dirk's stab was completely unexpected. Having looked at the board from his perspective, especially with the minimal role we crafted for him on this turn, I may have tried the same thing. Myself I considered sending out an e-mail, and/or making moves to prevent that type of betrayal. But it would have taken away from our joint effort against Austria. And (in my limited Dip experience), I've had the opposite problem that Dirk has - a tendency to go for the solo rather than stick with me allies. Anyway, Jack, if you are willing (and allowed) to take back your OTB retreats, I believe we can stop England from getting the solo and perhaps force a four-way
draw.
Unless one of
us is working with Dirk, helping him towards the solo, then I'm sure we can stop him, force a draw.
How does that sound?

I am sure Dirk is counting on the continued lack of orders coming in from AIR. If that were reversed his position is not solid enough to get the solo. England is actually short of fleets, we outnumber him there, and he needs them to his territory, so a quick fleet offensive by the combined resistance coming out of the Med could quickly nock him back on his heels. While that develops all we need to do is hold the line on the continent.
Matt,
I am in.

Ok, a minor fix. Spain ordered F Solomons - S PHI - PHS
- which changed nothing in the final result, but... The Rw file,
maps, game page, etc have been updated to show the correction.
One other note, please refer to dc342 somewhere in the subject of
your emails to me. My filter pops anything with that in the
subject into a separate folder. Someone sent me their orders with
no reference to the game in the subject and I found it after
having already adjudicated the game and was digging through a
mountain of emails. Remember, the orders you save may be your

It looks like the Italian-Turk alliance realty
starts to solidify this turn while Austria takes another potential hit
to her resources. There does not appear to be any other alliances on the board…..that
will make for an interesting Fall.
There are no retreats this turn so we will
move right on to the Fall, which will be due Wednesday August 17th at
21:00 GMT.
