Hey Jack, everyone,
I'm sure it was England holding up the EFG draw, considering. I can't say Dirk's stab was completely unexpected. Having looked at the board from his perspective, especially with the minimal role we crafted for him on this turn, I may have tried the same thing. Myself I considered sending out an e-mail, and/or making moves to prevent that type of betrayal. But it would have taken away from our joint effort against Austria. And (in my limited Dip experience), I've had the opposite problem that Dirk has - a tendency to go for the solo rather than stick with me allies. Anyway, Jack, if you are willing (and allowed) to take back your OTB retreats, I believe we can stop England from getting the solo and perhaps force a four-way
draw.
So what I'm proposing is first a cessation of hostilities between Austria/France/Germany/Italy/Russia. If Russia wants to get back in the game, we might even be able to help him back into some of his home territory. Jack if you retreat Rumania to Bulgaria & Galicia to Ukraine, disbanding Venice, then in the Spring you could order Vienna-Budapest & Trieste-Serbia. This would protect you from further English aggression and allow you to take back Rumania in the Fall.
In the meantime France can move all his units west, and I'll move all my units north and west, back into Germany. I'll also retreat Warsaw-Livonia. This will should allow me to take St Petersburg in the Fall.
England will be able to take Portugal at some point, and likely will seize Berlin or Holland this turn. Unless one of
us is working with Dirk, helping him towards the solo, then I'm sure we can stop him, force a draw.
How does that sound?
Matt

It's far easier to forgive an enemy after you've got even with him.

English units figuratively cross the Rubicon??? and literally cross the Guadalquivir and the Vilaine and the Elbe and the Stora and the Vistula and the Prut. It is a jolly good show. Quite, quite. Six units claim supply centers; the other two offer support. A Triumph is scheduled in Trafalgar Square for this Saturday, where a column with a statue of Lord Dirk will be erected in celebration.
Eastern Europe (Austria, Italy, and Russia) languidly emits a yawn. The units of all three nations hold.
Meanwhile, France and Germany continue to busy themselves with marching their units away from England. With his gains in Naples and Venice, France will not need to disband this winter.
Oh, by the way, the draw proposal fails. But a new end-game proposal emerges:
???Ye gods, it doth amaze me,
A man of such a feeble temper should
So get the start of the majestic world,
And bear the palm alone.???
There is a proposal for an English solo. All votes will be due with the Spring orders next week.
Meanwhile, there are retreats. Lots of ???em.
Austrian Army Galicia may retreat to Budapest, Ukraine, or OTB
Austrian Army Rumania may retreat to Budapest, Bulgaria, Serbia, or OTB
Austrian Army Venice may retreat to Apulia or OTB
German Army Warsaw may retreat to Livonia, Silesia, Ukraine, or OTB
Italian Fleet Naples may retreat to Apulia or OTB
[Note that I am *not* auto-retreating Venice or Naples, as the only retreat available to both of them is Apulia??? you might want to negotiate that].
Retreats are due tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. CST.
Then, there will be adjustments, which (before OTB retreats) stand as:
Austria: Supp 6 Unit 7 Remove 1
England: Supp 14 Unit 8 Build 3
France: Supp 7 Unit 7 Build 0
Germany: Supp 3 Unit 5 Remove 2
Italy: Supp 1 Unit 2 Remove 1
Russia: Supp 3 Unit 2 Build 0
So, as you can see, there???s lots to do for everybody except France and Russia.
