Yes, an unexpected line-up for me and a curiousity as to whether we would sustain a deal, given that it most games we compete - Britannia, Risk and Catan leap to mind.

*Massive Naval Action in Ionian Sea*
*Last German Forces Destroyed*

Hey all,

The top story of the hour is the almost certain destruction of Germany. Matt's last unit is destroyed, and Warsaw is taken. *technically* he's not out yet, because warsaw could be open in the fall and leave Matt in control of the center. But I think that's... unlikely. Well Played Matt! Thanks for sticking it out until the bitter end.

The massive 9 (or ten, if you count Apu) fleet clash in the Ionian ends with the board unchanged. France holds out with significant help from the occupied Italians.

Overall, the noose draws slightly tighter around Turkey's throat. But, as I mentioned, Turkey is a tough country to dig out. Will the alliance hold? Will a draw ever pass? Or are we in for a looong game? Whichever way, I hope you are having as much fun playing as I am GMing!

Hey all,

All kinds of draws back on the table for your consideration... We've got a 4 way E/F/I/T, a Three way E/F/T, and a two-way E/F. Again, assuming more than one draw succeeds, the Least Exclusive will take priority. We'll have the draws due thursday for the fall turn. Also, Matt is still considered a player since he still owns a center for voting purposes. If he (or anyone else) fails to vote, then the draws would fail. So Matt, make sure to vote!

DC341: EOG Statement from Russia - MagDox   (Mar 06, 2011, 12:49 pm)
Well the game did not start quite as I had hoped. Disagreement with
Turkey over the Black Sea was to be expected, but his army moving to
Armenia was an unwanted distraction. After coming to an agreement
with Austria I was concerned when he immediately broke it, moving to
Galicia and then supporting himself into Rumania with Turkish help.
The silver lining was that Germany didn't keep me out of Sweden,
allowing me to build and put up a fight in the south.

Austro-Hungary, Turkey, and The Balkans:

At this point I was furiously urging Italy to help me against a
perceived A-T alliance, and urging Austria and Turkey to attack each
other. With Turkey not fully committed to the northern attack, Jon
proceeded to turn on Turkey, which allowed me to take Rumania at the
expense of ceding the Black Sea to Turkey. Unfortunately for Jon I
wasn't willing to forgive his transgressions and proceeded to
organise a tripartite attack on Austria, keeping the bulk of the
gains for myself. Once it was clear the Austrian threat was ended I
was able to focus on methodically dealing with Turkey. Since Italy
had given Jon a lifeline in 1904, I began to dominate the alliance
between Italy and myself, and keeping all of Turkey's centres for
myself only increased the gap between us. I helped Italy regain his
centres and then urged him westwards while I dealt with Turkey. I
was intentionally slow to kill Turkey for fear that the other powers
would see my strong position and attack me before I had consolidated
my gains and redeployed my units. Ultimately I came out of the wars
here with a very strong position, and there wasn't really any point
at which Italy could have turned on me and won.

Scandinavia:

Due to a bit of miscommunication I had managed in spring 1902 to
slip into Norway, but expecting to be bounced in the North Sea
slipped right back out in fall. At this point Germany was under
quite heavy attack from both England and France and I knew that with
the problems I was facing with A-T I had to stall their advance.
Catie, however was understandably paranoid, especially since it
looked as though I had forgone a build by vacating Norway. A timely
build in StP gave me an army in Scandinavia and I took Norway,
ceding Sweden to Germany so as not to lose it to England. From this
position Catie and I took control of the North Sea, convoyed a
German army to England, and put the Anglo-French war machine into
retreat. The situation would likely have stayed stalemated had
Italy's fleets at this point not moved west forcing France to vacate
the NAO and abandon his beleaguered English ally.

Germany:

Despite a mistake allowing France to occupy Kiel, Catie had a solid
position as Germany with 6 centres and more to be found in England.
At this point I re-occupied Sweden without informing Catie, but I
think she was mollified by my aiding her into Liverpool. Ultimately,
however, I was looking for where my 18 centres would come from for a
solo victory: I had 4 in the Balkans, would have 3 fom Turkey, 2
from Scandinavia and 4 from Russia, so needed 5 more. Either Germany
or Italy could have provided these centres and I maintained a
presence ready to strike at Italy should he stop heading west, but
Shawn was a solid ally all game whereas I did not believe Catie
would sit back if I went for a solo. I had to offer her the chance
though, so...

EOG Proposal:

I submitted an EOG Proposal along with my orders for Fall 1907. I
had only 13 centres at this point, but given my position I figured
that my solo victory was inevitable. I knew Turkey, Italy and
England would support the proposal, France was looking at an Italian
invasion against his undefended south so might as well. Once it
failed the future hinged on Italy's decision: whether to help me
achieve my solo, or work with F-G against me. Had he turned on me I
expected I could take his three eastern centres and from there add
one Turkish and one German, but Shawn stuck with me and continued
his attack on France so I sought my centres from Germany.
Unfortunately for her I had already manoeuvred myself into position
and by the end of 1908 had control of the seas and her eastern
border. I don't know what prompted her retreat westwards, but her
defeat was inevitable. And with a few gains I hit the magic number.

Summary:

It was definitely a strange game for me: initially threatened by
both AH and Turkey, it took a lot of patience to build my position
in the south, and on the other side of the map I was again initially
on the defending side helping Germany against E-F. What may have
looked like two separate fights was for me one large fight, with
unit gains from one front often going to reinforce the other front.
I'd like to extend my thanks once again to Matt for taking over
Turkey, he did little wrong and I tried to provide him with a
survival but from his starting position he couldn't have done
anything to prevent his fate. I think the end-of-game position will
be a little unfair to Catie who deserves lots of credit for
defending so successfully against E-F, and thanks to Shawn for
sticking with me and helping me to my first solo on Diplomaticcorp
(hopefully not the last). I hope everyone enjoyed the game as much
as I did: as Adam said, the end became a bit stale but that
shouldn't take anything away from the excitement of the beginning.
Finally, a big thank-you to Adam for all his efforts.

Frank
2011/3/2, DipCorp Master :
EGP: none of the 4 proposals made it. Once more it was a very close call.

Arcolia and Laconia probe at eachother's borders but without much luck.
Laconia is increasing its presence in the southwest while Arcolia is doing
something similar in the north.
Boeotia and Attica hold their place while Elia is on the move again.

Next is Fall 18. Deadline is Friday Mar 4 at 19:00 GMT.
Only one EGP for Fall 18: Arcolian-Laconian draw. Submit your vote with
your
Fall orders.
Any other EGP is welcome but will come up for voting with the Spring 19
orders.

NOTE: I made an error in the Winter 17 adjustments and had built the
Laconian Army in SPA instead of PRA.
When I found out about it while doing Spring 18 adjudication I corrected
the
mistake. Don't think it had any impact considering that both SPA and PRA
are
nowhere near any other powers. Was anyone even aware?
For the completeness however I have also attached the corrected W17 map

France and Turkey Benefit Gaining a Center Each

English Forces Reposition a Bit

All,

Benjy disappeared this turn. We move to Winter tomorrow at 6pm CST. France has two builds and Turkey has one. TECHNICALLY, Benjy has the opportunity to retreat Tri or Tyr to Vienna and choose to disband Nap or Pie. If I hear that he wishes to do that as part of Winter then I will update the map accordingly.

Thanks.

Garry

DC 363 WB11 - Winter 1908 Results - Corrino   (Mar 04, 2011, 7:08 pm)
Hi Guys,

All the orders were in so early, I almost forgot I had one set.  You four are working on perfect records, I think.  Is it a coincidence that you're the last four standing?  I doubt it.

Winter Results:

France:
Build A Paris

Turkey:
Build A Constantinople

Map & .dpy attached, as always.

NEXT DEADLINE:  Spring 1909 orders are due Monday, March 7, at 18:00 EST.

END GAME PROPOSAL:  I didn't get four FINAL "YES" votes on the DIAS, but I can say that I
did not receive any "NO" votes, either.  So the DIAS is still on table.
Vote with your Spring orders.

Cheers,
Chris

Okay, no word from Paul so his fleet goes away. Anyone know what has become of our fearless Russian leader?

There is a new proposal on the table for a four way E/F/G/I. Votes are due with fall orders, and just a reminder that it MUST be unanimous. That means I need six yes votes, but the person that proposed it is already assumed to have voted yes.

Fall 1905 is due in one week, on Friday March 11, 17:00 MST.

New maps are attached. Enjoy.

I haven't looked to
see where the rules stand on this one, but I don't think that the ruling on the
game-end proposal is in the best interests of all concerned.

Obviously if anyone
wants to vote no to the draw then fine, but if as I suspect four active players
vote yes and two inactive players don't vote I can't see that it helps if the
game-end proposal is defeated.

If Russia does drop
out I am not happy at the possibility of a replacement. My whole strategy in the
game has been based on building up a good understanding and alliance with Russia
and the possibility of him being replaced by a psychotic stabber or a complete
novice doesn't bear thinking about.

I have already been
stuffed once by the replacement of a useless England with someone who is a cross
between Albert Einstein and Paul McKenna and I don't want to leave this game
with nothing because of the constant change in personnel. If everyone still
playing wants a draw let's agree to put this game out of its
misery.

DC 359 Winter 08 Adjucation - untitled36   (Mar 04, 2011, 5:04 pm)
Eek! Sorry All! I just realized I hadn't sent out the adjucation! It's my son's birthday today and it slipped my mind. Sorry!

Draw fails, but TWO new draw proposals are on the table. And E/F draw and an E/F/T draw. If both happen to succeed, the LESS exclusive draw will take precedence, so the E/F/T would be the final result.

Also, Turkey disbands Serbia and England builds A Lon.

Votes and spring 09 due monday at 8:00 AM CST (2:00 PM GMT).

Thanks!

Italy builds another fleet to replace the one that the Germans sunk in the spring.

The spring 1909 orders will be due Monday, March 7 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT.  Once again, a 4-way AGIT endgame has been proposed, so please cast your vote along with your orders.

DC 341: Peace via Conquest - AceRimmer   (Mar 04, 2011, 3:22 pm)
The war is over! Peace carries the day! ...um, because Russia carries peace across the continent at the point of gun. It is now time for the Triumph of the Tsar! Proud and victorious peasant warriors march along bunting-festooned streets. Admiring ladies seek to catch but the glimpse of Gareth's eye; they pray that he will father children with them. At least until his next game, Gareth is a militaristic, autocratic monolith of power. Enjoy it while it lasts.
All non-French-German units hold. The Italian army in Picardy is dislodged and destroyed.
England, France, Germany, and Italy grit out moral victories, staving off elimination. They may now use their survival status to enjoy a life of cowering before the beneficence of their Russian masters. As it should be.
We have a weekend upon us. Please use the time wisely to write end of game statements. It is time to relive your conquests and frustrations.
Thank you to everybody for an education in the game of Diplomacy. I especially want to thank Matt for serving as a replacement player; and praise & thanks to Catie and Gareth, neither of whom NMR'd once in the entire game.
