DC 341: Spr & Sum 1910 - AceRimmer (Feb 28, 2011, 9:34 am) |
Okay. The Russian solo is officially mathematically unstoppable unless Gareth intentionally throws it away. Since we have come this far, and since nobody has proposed a solo lately, I recommend you all get your orders in super quickly *marked final*. That way, I may adjudicate and then we can reward our all-too-deserving winner with a true 18+ center solo. Afterward, we can all take our time and bask in the blinding and sun-tanning light of his resplendence.
Meanwhile, you may wish to be writing/finalizing your end of game statements. Speaking as a player/GM, EoG statements are often one of the most rewarding parts of the game. Don't let the later stagnation of this game erase your memories of the vibrancy of its beginning!

*The EF really wanted Livonia*
*German forces twiddle thumbs*
*Italy caught between a rock and a hard place*
Hey all,
While Turkey is generally successful in the south, it appears this turn slightly favored the EF. But Turkey is always a tough nut to crack. These next few turns will be interesting to watch!
Suprisingly, Germany apparently neglected to turn in any orders. I hope this was a random glitch rather than an abandonment. Apart from Russia, you have all been fabulous about turning in moves reliably. Thanks for that!
In absence of any retreats. our next deadline is Thursday at 8:00 AM CST (2:00 PM GMT). See you then!

dc340 DCI 2010 - F08 retreats - Israeli Ascendency - garry.bledsoe (Feb 26, 2011, 11:26 am) |
Sorry all...I forgot that I had set separate retreats from Winter turn on this one (too busy thinking about WB!).
We have the following retreats:
Bur A Boh retreats to Sax
Bur A Lan retreats to Dij
Sic F Mor retreats OTB
Ukr A Mus retreats to Nov
That leaves us with the following adjustments for Winter:
Burgundy - remove 2
Byzantium - build 1
Sicily - remove 1 (I have already rec'd this Mike but of course you can still change)
Hungary - build 1
Israel - build 3
Spain - build 1
Ukraine - remove 1
For the record, that is NOT a typo - Spain does build another.
Since I am behind getting this out, let's hold for builds until Wednesday. We will then set our Spring 1909 for the following Thursday.
Thanks.

I got stuck at a work function and couldn't get this out last night.
Pretty straight-forward turn with lots of positioning. Italy does lose Tun to France but that is the only real action as other forces position themselves for the battle royale that will be 1908.
France builds 1
Italy disbands 1
I will give us until tomorrow at noon to have those in since this got out late. If Benjy and Jeremiah submit orders as FINAL before then I will update things and we can move on.

Diplomats,
France misses the deadline and will be one unit down this year - possibly disastrous. Italy trades a Fleet for an Army and Turkey brings two new Armies and a Fleet to the board, while Russia brings forth a new Army in Sevastopol.

As Little Red Riding Hood might say, what a color scheme you have! England controls France, Turkey takes Russia and the Ottoman's are made of stone! And the royal Brits have taken the royal purple to an extreme level. I must say, somebody call those "queer eye for the straight diplomat" boys immediately - we have a fashion emergency!!!!!!
More seriously, can we extend the deadline to Wed or Thursday, please?

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."
"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

DC356 Rules issues - cbconnell (Feb 25, 2011, 9:43 am) |
Some issues have be raised over the last few days about some of the decisions I have made in??interpreting??the rules. I want to bring everyone up to speed on what is going on, and the status of these issues. First, I am very interested in players challenging me on the rules. I will not claim to be an expert, and I am learning more about the game this way than playing.
The first issue: I was questioned about my choice of removing the Italian unit in Tuscany in Winter of 1904. It was felt that the rules state a particular order for removing units, and it was not being followed. The specific rule is this?
If a country in civil disorder has to remove units, the units farthest
from the country are removed first. If units are equally distant, then
remove Fleets before Armies and then in alphabetical order by the
provinces in which they???re located.
Italy had three units on the board. Tuscany, Naples and Tyrrhenian Sea, with supply centers at Naples and Tunis. Since Naples was occupied and a supply center, it was not removed. The Fleet in Tyrrhenian Sea is one space away from an Italian supply center in Tunis. Tuscany is right between Venice and Rome, which are starting Italian supply centers. However in this case, both Venice and Rome are occupied by other players: Venice is under Turkey's control and Rome is under Austrian control (as of Fall 1904). This means that Italy currently consists of Naples and Tunis. Tuscany was the furthest unit away from the current Italian supply centers and was the unit removed.??
I did send out an email this week agreeing that there was a problem in this matter. I had not reviewed the issue carefully when I sent out that email. I since have talked with the player who??initially brought the challenge, and we have agreed that the correct decision was made in removing Tuscany.??
So this matter is resolved: Tuscany was correctly removed, the map will not change.
The second issue: I have not heard from Italy for any reason since the 1904 spring orders. There were no orders due from Italy in Summer 1904. I did not receive Fall 1904 orders from Italy after several reminders. Winter 1904 required a disband order from Italy and no orders were received. As I was updating the DC website with the status of our game this week after the winter adjudication, I listed Italy as being in Civil Disorder.??
A player other than Italy challenged the fact that Italy was placed in Civil Disorder on the website since Italy had not missed two consecutive major seasons (Spring and Fall).
This issues is resolved: I have removed the Civil Disorder status from the website for the Italian player.??
As far as I know, these are the only issues at the moment.??
Thank you all for playing and your interest in making the game as accurate as possible.

The only reason I moved to Trieste was so that you
would open
the adjudication with "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent." Damnation!

Hi Guys,
Okay, I juggled my schedule a little so I could be here and adjudicate right at 6:00. I don't have any Italian orders, but I don't see how they could possibly make any difference. He loses Rome, and he can't affect what happens anywhere else on the board.
Quickie news:
End game proposal for RT draw fails.
Russia and Turkey plow forward BUT... interesting moves in and around the Balkans have some observers wondering whether or not a rift may be forming. It appears that two of the three thought Austria would get to keep Trieste, but one did not.
England and Italy are eliminated. Thanks for playing, boys! Maybe next year.
RETREATS: Italy's retreat is irrelevant. GM's decision to
retreat OTB.
ADJUSTMENTS:
France is +1
Russia is +2
Turkey is +2
See the details at the end of this message.
NEW EGP: DIAS -- 4-way draw between Austria, France, Russia and Turkey. I will accept alternate EGP with adjustment orders.
NEXT DEADLINE: Builds are due tomorrow by 10:00 p.m. I can tell you now that unless something extraordinary happens, I won't be adjudicating until after midnight... and if I'm too tired it will be Saturday morning.
If you should all happen to get me your orders by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, and you remember to mark them as FINAL, I'll adjudicate then before I go out.
Cheers,
Chris
