dc354 - coming to terms - FuzzyLogic (Feb 17, 2011, 7:57 am) |
A corrected map for y'all.
Leprechauns ordered to Twisted Tunnels. (so Dwarves bounce)
Pirate fleet ordered to Far Far Away, not WTH. (so Hobbits don't bounce)
As always, continue to check my work. With 102 units to key each turn there's bound to be some errors!

...with nonexistence. A tough lession to learn, as the Magicians, Nomads, and Samurai may have a future in some other world, but certainly not in this game. Our first 3 eliminations after just 3 years! That is rough... Send me end-game-statements while they're fresh in your mind, and I'll hold them till the end. Curious if you think anything needs a tweak in the map, as after this rendition of the game I'm going to make what I will likely consider the only and final changes to the map!
RETREAT!
Barbarian A Cathal can retreat to Pendaran Wood or Arctic Barrens.
Undead F Terabithia can retreat to SAVAGE SEA.
Leprechaun A Necronomicon can retreat to Merrow.
Centaur F SUNLESS SEA can retreat to MIST MARSH or Calormen.
Pirate F HIGH SEAS can retreat to MERMAIDS LAGOON or Riku or
GRIEF REEF or THON THALAS or Abby Normal or Grendel
or Tarsis or Far Far Away.
Going to do the retreats separate from builds this turn just cuz they can impact the builds in weird ways. RETREATS are due tomorrow Thursday 2/17, 3pm Central! Send in your builds too if you know what they'll be, or wait for the retreats. Builds will be due Friday.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the great Gming, Warren. I came to the game late so my EOG will be brief! Congrats to Turkey, and sorry the rest that I couldn’t stem the flow. The
crucial error was the mutual disband with Russia earlier which robbed us of resources needed to hold the line! Ah, well.
Hope to play you all again soon,

Hi folks.
Well, FYI the draw proposal failed again. HOWEVER, Turkey finished the fall turn with 19 dots, and wins a solo anyhow. Congrats Tim, well done. And in a side note, England survives....
I'm going to post the turn here anyhow, and attach the final maps. End of Game comments are most welcome, so feel free to analyze to your heart's content.... or just rant, up to you

DC349 1st Strike - Sean2010 (Feb 16, 2011, 3:55 pm) |
Hello Everyone,
I'm going to have to postpone the Winter Deadline. I'm unable to download files outside my home access at neither the public library or campus internet accesses, and my home internet access is presently down rendering me unable to access RealPolitik files.
Presently, I'm not expecting my home access to be reactivated until the end of Feburary. My apologies for this issue, and I'll see if I can get it back on sooner.

dc354 - coming to terms (dc354) FuzzyLogic Feb 17, 07:57 am |

Enjoy!

The walls continue to close in on the small powers... A waiting turn of sorts? Finish off the small fries? Will be interesting to see what breaks here - already the underground seems to be a popular region, with many civilizations ordering into the underground crossover spaces this round!
There are no retreats - so we move right on to Fall!
Due next Wed 2/16, 3pm Central!
Enjoy,

dc339 draw! - hancockfc (Feb 16, 2011, 7:08 am) |
Let me begin by thanking Mike Sims for acting as the GM for
this game. There could be no game
without the selfless efforts of volunteer GMs.
Thanks also to the other players for their participation.
As the Carthaginian player I initially felt that an alliance
with Rome was crucial to my long term survival.
Mike Norton and I don???t always see eye to eye but we worked together
well in this game for an extended period.
Mike and I decided to attempt to hold the eastern powers at bay while we
removed Gaul and Germania from the equation.
While I initially had a good relationship with Egypt, his failure to maintain
anything resembling regular communications eventually undermined our ability to
cooperate effectively.
My arrangement with Rome was proceeding reasonably well
until Mike ran into personal difficulties and became semi-detached from the
game. Since Germania and I had some ongoing
differences it looked like Macedonia and Persia would be able to sweep westward
across the map.
The turning point came I believe when Macedonia began to
grow too rapidly at Rome???s expense and triggered alarms in Persia. A PCG arrangement arose to thwart Macedonia
and eventually a 3WD resulted. Germania
survived but did not participate in the draw.
This was probably the best result that Ross could have achieved under
the circumstances.
I think that the use of proxy orders had a significantly
negative impact on the game. While Mike
was having difficulties I wrote Rome???s orders for several turns. Having the responsibility for Rome???s fortunes
was a considerable drag on my flexibility but I did the best I could for Rome
until Mike reassumed the reins. Later in
the game I understand that Christopher was writing Ross???s orders. This assignment was passed to me making
solidifying the West against Matthew considerably easier. Again I chose orders which maintained
Germania???s position as best I could. I
do not like NMRs and the need for replacements in general as I think that it
gives an unfair advantage to those best positioned to take advantage of the
circumstances. In my case the use of
proxy orders in this instance considerably reduced my interest in the contest. Perhaps this was due to specific features of
this particular game but I would prefer to see proxying limited to a subset of
a power???s units, or limited in time, rather than being a substitute for having
to replace a player when necessary.
I wish you all well and look forward to seeing you again.

Moves will be due every Tuesday midnight GMT, with retreats 24 hours later, and builds 24 hours too. I have set the first deadline for just under
two week’s time.
Here are the power assignments: Everyone wanted the same powers, so I had to use first-come-first served! So sorry if I couldn’t get you what you wanted.

The rules will be standard house rules (http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/info.php?type=houserules
)
I live in South Africa, so will need to adjudicate on Wednesday mornings when I get to work (5:30 ish GMT). This gives a natural period of grace for getting orders in a little
late, so there should be no excuses for NMRs! I will try to send reminders the day before, but real life may prevent that.
Use DC and game number when assigned in the subject line as I am playing a number of games and running a tournament on the Stabbeurfou site, so may get confussed!
To all, good luck!

DC350: 12h for Fall 1904 - Rocketship (Feb 15, 2011, 11:04 pm) |
We've now reached the deadline and I am still missing orders from Austria, England, and Germany. I am now invoking Germany's 24h grace period.
All are free to submit orders until the new deadline.
If I don't receive orders from England and Austria, then I'll be forced to put those countries into civil disorder; I'll then seek replacements during Spring 1905.
Cheers,
Matthew

Welcome to the Game Grid...
Turkey is advancing North, England is spreading East and West, and Germany is everywhere. Russia has met some resistance in Central??Europe, and Italy is holding on for now. France on the other hand seems to be all but gone - attacked by Italy, England and Germany at the same time. Surprisingly, Austria is still in the game, holding on to a thread of hope.
I am not sure how things are going to you all, but I am enjoying this game very much. This has proved to be very interesting. Summer Retreat orders from Russia and France are due on Thursday at 9:00pm MST.??

Congrats to all three for a well deerved draw. I have to hang my head down for letting myself get bushwhacked mid-game, bu tit is what it is.
Here is my EOG!
Beign in the center in this game is a bear! Even with a fast start, with easy grabs and weak Gaul I found myself surrounded. My apporach was to get two solid allies, out fo the following three Carthage Persia and Macedonia. I thought iI actually managed three and planned on pushing north into Germania. Unfortuantely Macedonia caught me in too trusting a position and it was difficult to ever regain my balance after that. Simple as that. The proxy ought to be limitied, maybe three turns max then you replace if they dont send a positive acknolwedgement they are rejoining.
Congrats again guys

Congrats to all... Comments? Thoughts?
This game got off to a great start, then admitted I ran into some hurdles around half-way thru... An unfortunately eventful end to 2010 made it tough to keep up w the game there for a while. Eventually we got it on a roll again, and then it was pretty easy after that point. This is the second time I've seen a proxy used in a game. Thougths on that? It's really designed to be more for one or two turns, not to have the perpetual standing orders like we saw. I may revise my house rules on the matter, perhaps to limit the proxy to only the current turn.
Any ideas on what to run next? Anyone want to run something? We can always use GM's...

Autumn 17: Laconian F UTA retreats to SIC.
And that brings us to Winter 17.
Oh no. The Aetolians have lost their last 2 SCs and have gone underground. The last 2 units in EPC and UTA are destined for afterlife.
Now we all wonder whether it will be with the gods of the Olympos? Or enduring endless suffering with Hades for failing to solo?
What a sad ending for a Power that once ruled with 16 SCs and seemed to be set for a sounding victory.
Let that be a warning to those that have started to feel comfortable with a position in the lead.
Thanks for playing Scott. And for hanging on until the end.
When we've finished the game I would appreciate if you could give us your endgame comments.[Reply] |

Until next time!
