DC364 - Austria EOG - chaosonejoe (Feb 10, 2011, 11:49 am) |
Congrats to Russia and well played.
I bear (hah! pun) some of the French disdain for other players not resisting, especially early, but the power vacuum of no England definitely put Russia in the power position.
(I know I benefitted from such a vacuum in last year's tourney, but from Italy)
I was sensitive to early bullish emails from Italy and Germany, and didn't see much future in a three-way alliance where I got assurances of cooperation for one front, but likely would bear the brunt of the typical three-way with Russia/Turkey. Would the I/G/A alliance have made a difference? Unlikely.
I expected no problems with Germany, but obviously opened myself up to a Russian stab. Italian name-calling and intransigence spelt the doom of any coordination, and Turkey never provided sure arrangements for suitable defense, and thus the center crumbled.
I shared Max's puzzlement of Germany obliviousness to the Russian Solo, and also took note of the amazing disintegration of Turkey.
All told, a fun game, a fast game and one for many what-ifs, most obviously, what if England actually entered the tournament to play the game in the first place?!?
Not sure if this rises to the level of consideration for future Winter Blitzes, but there are definite dynamic issues with a player not involved. Substitutions may be difficult in a tourney, but there's a vast difference between players playing mystifyingly, or even players who drop out due to horrible positions of their own inabilities, and a player AWOL from day one.
Any thought of sanctions against someone who never puts in a set of orders?
Looking forward to Round 2!
Joe Babinsack

I hear a fat lady warming up her vocal cords...
Austria's Greece can only retreat to Albania, so assuming that move we
can look at the winter builds and find...
The fat lady is singing the Russian national anthem. A Russian solo.
That was a brutal and short game. Unfortunate start with England missing.

DC 359 Fall 05 Adjucation - untitled36 (Feb 10, 2011, 8:47 am) |
*Russia and Austria Live On!*
*English "Liberate" Norway from "German Oppressors!"*
*Foreign Fleets Close In On Italy*
Hey all,
In general, the alliance structure seems to remain unchanged. England and France continue to slowly dismember Germany. England and Turkey seem content to leave each other alone. And Italy appears to be facing the whole world. I have to admit that I'm suprised we didn't see at least one elimination this season, though in Russia's case, it wasn't for lack of people trying. So our entire seven player roster (ok, six players and a mannequin) remains intact.
In other news, you may want to check out the WB Standings page on diplomaticcorp.com. Go to Games/winter blitz/standings. If you've not played in the Blitz before, this helpful tool allows you to see at a glance how the competition in *other* games are doing. On a side note, you might happen to note that yours truly is in 4th place right now. But that's very deceiving, because in my game Russia is probably going to solo this round... and I'm not Russia. Still, let me bask in a good score while I can, okay? Anyway, it's a useful thing to keep an eye on.
Back to our game, we do need a retreat from Germany. A Nwy can retreat to Swe, Fin, or OTB (Stp is NOT an option since a bounce occured there this season). The other dislodged unit (Turkish F Apu) was disbanded as it had no place to retreat.
Build-wise, here's the breakdown:
England - Build 1
France - Build 1
Germany - Remove 2 (unless Nwy retreats otb, then remove 1)
Italy - Remove 1
Turkey - Build 2
As always, these are due Tomorrow at 8:00 AM CST (2:00 PM GMT). And I will be gone much of this weekend, so don't expect much (if any) communication from me between the Winter Adjucation and the Spring 06 adjucation.

Dropping the ball over the place lately. England build should be an army in Lon, not a fleet. Also it should be shown on the map and it is not. Have to send out a corrected map tonight. Sorry about that, keep checking up on me.
Also didn't specifically mention it but French F Bre retreated to Gas. It is shown correctly on the map.

If it hadn't been for a last-minute vote change by 2 of them it would have ended here.

dc305 revisited! - FuzzyLogic (Feb 09, 2011, 7:45 am) |
Hey guys,
Just so you know, I'm going to call this game a 4-way draw of those who responded. Site to be updated shortly! A new game is open on the site already... in case you want to get into a good game. The GM is Penner, a dc regular sure to be a good one!

Subject: dc305 revisited!
Hey folks,
I don't know who out there thinks the Earth is round... but every once in a blue moon, we to have that game that seems to fall off the edge of existence... possibly into another world... maybe it's related to the location of all my left socks, or maybe it's where the tooth fairy sticks all her teeth (what does she do w those anyways?) but nonetheless where once there was a game, sometimes there seems to be none... Well it's time to lift that illusion as we revisit dc305!
This game - once led by the almighty Kyle - who seems to have found a calling in life that takes him far from here... is lost no more. It is time to move forward.
So I present to you now --- wait for it ---
-me-
<applause>
<cheer>
<dancing girls>
No really. I'm what you got. Is it Christmas? No - better. A GM that is here to carry this game to completion. And believe me when I do say that I run a pretty tight ship.
So I offer you now to all step forth! Our 5 players of the 305. Confirm you are in this game!
England - Matthew!
France - Jenn!
Germany - Buck!
Russia - Ponk!
Turkey - Andrew!
With Austria and Italy in Civil Disorder.
What do you all want to do w this game? Some ideas...
1) Play it out
2) Call it and end it a 5-way draw
If you wish to vote for 1 or 2, you must agree to abide by whichever receives majority vote!
If you do not wish to vote for 1 or 2, you can settle for being removed from the game, the vote, etc. Get a CD, and be done w it.
If you don't reply at all, I'll wait up to a week or so and then just remove you.
Hopefully we can get a unanimous, or at least a strong preference, from all 5.
So I present to you a clear option to either play it out or call it honorably! Next step is up to you... Talk it out amongst yourselves and send me your preference, I'll tally them up and get back to you.
Map is attached. Current turn is Fall 03.
Thanks!
-mike
PS - My apologies for not noticing the game was stagnated sooner.
