DC 345: F1901 First Year's Progress - AceRimmer   (Oct 27, 2010, 4:46 pm)
[Please note the attached .map file (if I???ve remembered to attach it). If you are adjudicating at home on RP, you???ll have to replace the Anarchy.map file that I sent earlier with this one. Otherwise, you won???t be able to build any new units this Winter!]

Autumn 1901 retreats are due tomorrow at 3:00 CST (20:00 GMT). We???ve got a few???

The Imperial (DRE) army in Marseilles may retreat to Burgundy, Piedmont, or OTB
The Dulcerian army in Rumania may retreat to Galicia, Ukraine, or OTB
The Itean fleet in London may retreat to North Sea, Wales, or OTB.

It???s kind of fun to Google your country names. It may or may not say something about you as a person. [Note: I ignored the Democratic Roman Empire and The One Who Will Win, since those phrases show up in a cornucopia of various contexts.]

Dulceria ??? a Spanish word for a candy shop or sweet shop??? and, you know, those supply centers do look kind of sweet and tasty (just ask Zonotrichia).

Zonotrichia ??? the scientific genus name for a variety of North American sparrows, some of which nest nearby to Warren. I bet he???s easily felled with two barrels of birdshot.

Itea ??? International Technology Education Association. Institute for Taoist Education and Acupuncture. Also a name of towns in Greece. And the genus name of the flowering sweetspire shrub that blooms in July. With a name like this, he could be anything and everything. Judging from 1901, perhaps it means ???I???m taking extreme abuse???. Safest to poke him full of needles and trim any spindly branches.

Hembria ??? There is apparently a family surname of Hembria wandering down south in Georgia. I know this because poor ol??? Cam left a November 1976 obituary. Hembria. Obituary. Not too promising.

Trigspor ??? thanks to this game, it has *8* results in Google. We???re #1 on the list! The next four results involve adjacent foreign words of ???Trigs??? and ???Por??? (or ???trig-spor???). And then, predictably, the last three are for porn sites listed as ???Trigsporn???. Provide your own punchline.

Adaria ??? this is the fun one. It???s a company that provides vending services in and around Toronto! No, it???s a girl???s name meaning ???Virgin???. No, wait, it???s the name of a cacti and succulents garden in Romania. Hold on??? ???Adarian Money??? is personal finance software. But, no, it???s actually just another porn website, this one devoted to pictures of sexy, naked Amazon women. Mr. Maslow, just what do you do with your time? Regardless, I think it sounds like ???I dare ya?????? are you gonna let him talk to ya like that?

Okay, now for the adjudication. Below the adjudication, I list adjustments for Winter (due Friday).

Gaul is reunited! One suspects that in the process Adaria has not been entirely honest. Still, it???s a nifty feat that the sexy, naked Amazons have pulled off ??? earning support from two different allies against two different enemies. So, Mr. Maslow is one of the year???s big winners.
The other big winner ??? making good on his threat to paint the screen zombie green ??? Mr. Fleming of Zonotrichia. Expect more fluorescent units out of Bulgaria and Sevastopol soon.
One of the side stories here is the diplomatic war between the DRE and Trigspor. Round One goes unambiguously to Trigspor, who wins the Bachelorette-like wooing of Adaria and who secures a vital support in Trieste from the sparrow-people. Thus, what could have ended in +1 for DRE and -1 for Trigspor instead results in -1 for DRE and even-Steven for Trigspor.
In the North, Itea fails to persuade either Hembria or The One Who Will Win to relent. The results are gruesome for the retail furniture chain but yield moderate growth for both halves of the northern alliance.

As we near the end of 1901, there is still plenty of game left to play. It may be time to rearrange some of the alliances that you *think* are running the game.

I just remembered... there was press... and just for the record, no horse was deployed.

Press:
Rome - 25th July 1901
After relocating the Senate to Rome
only last year the presence of the approaching Adarian fleet has made
Emperor Nathan wary. So yesterday the order came, in triplicate, to move
the Senate back to Venice. Many in the Senate expressed their wish to
stay with the people in Rome, it will be a test of how much power the
Senate has within this "Democratic" Empire as to whether any will stay.
The Emperor himself will remain in his palace in Rome while his armies
are deployed North. He does of course have a fast horse on stand by.

Nerd moment.  Back in the late 90s there was a "one hit wonder" phenomenon within Google.  The challenge was to find 2 words that, when typed in, yielded only one result.  "Trigspor" and "Diplomacy" is now such a wonder!  Then again, so is "Trigspor" and "Nude" Wait, that has 3 hits.  Victory! (?)

Meanwhile, Adaria is actually an Amazonian vending machine that takes only Adarian cheques.  It dispenses either virgins or cacti.  It's kind of like Russian Roulette.

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."

"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dulceria would be even if he retreats Rum, and +1 if he retreats otb. Right? Unless you mean -1 from the start of the game. But unit wise he has three centers and (currently) three units. Forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm on my desktop not my laptop, and I don't have realpolitik installed on here.

You are correct, John. Dulceria will not need to build nor disband this winter (pending his retreat). However, he is -1 SC since the beginning of the game.

On a separate note:

In my adjudications, I present your orders *as written* (copied and pasted). This way, you see the orders exactly the same way as I receive them. (This way, if -- as in the last game I GM'd -- your unit supports an opposing army to go to a province named "Hell", that will show up in the orders -- along with a *Void*, since your enemy presumably didn't order his unit to go to Hell).

What if the enemy did in fact order his unit to go to Hell?  I mean, I've certainly ordered useless units to do strange things in place of holding...  coincidences do happen...

All,

Thanks for the patience and well wishes. Less fun commentary
this time because I literally am trying to get this done before I have to fly
out in the morn.

Two retreats both with only one option: F Gascony retreats
to Bay of Biscayne and A Catalonia retreats to Estremedura. Both of these have
an OTB option that can be taken if you choose. If so, please reply to all as
such. Otherwise it is assumed the retreat taken was acceptable and we move to
Fall03. We will resume with Fall03 in a few weeks. Deadline Thursday the 29th
at 6pm CST.

Enjoy.

dc330: Sp44 Player Press! - dknemeyer   (Oct 27, 2010, 9:57 am)
Italian Press
El Duce wishes to present to the leaders of European great powers a proposal to end the conflict that has forced pacifistic Italy to defend itself against the anachronistic imperial ambitions of Germany, France, Poland, Britain and Turkey and the cruder Marxist notions of the Spanish and the Soviets.
While some have said that Europe must be either all facist or all communist, it can be both; while some have said that Europe must be either all Islamic or all Christian, it can be both; while some have said that the seas must be all British or all Italian, they can be both; while some have said that Europe must be dominated by Italian infantry or Polish cavalry, both can co-exist.
The proposal, then, is that the nations of Britain, Poland, Turkey and Italy and the Socialist Internationale sign a peace treaty that ends the conflict now. The exclusion of France is, unfortunately, a condition that Italy must demand, as the history books will show that French aggression triggered much of this conflict and has cost many Italian lives.
Shall the guns fall silent? El Duce says yes.=

Gents,
The votes fail; the war continues!!! There are two new votes due with your FALL orders: a 4-way BIPT and a 5-way BIPST.
In what has been a rare occurrence, the Turkish military suffers setbacks in the east, center and west, with armies in Slovakia and Western Ukraine being disbanded and the fleet in Morocco looking for higher ground. There are two retreats:
British F South-Western Approaches can retreat to Irish Sea or Bay of Biscay or Galicia or Gibraltar or OTB
Turkish F Morocco can retreat to Gibraltar or OTB
Sorry for the late adjudication. As some of you are aware I've been diagnosed with both mono and Lyme disease. I'm generally making the best of it but it has been a brutal month that is continuing into a second. Not fun. Anyway...down to business!

Deadline Thursday the 29th
at 6pm CST.

Enjoy.

DC 333, Fall 1905 - alwayshunted   (Oct 26, 2010, 6:06 pm)
Hi folks,

Well, an extra day but I still don't have orders for Italy. As it is the first, the game will continue on. A second nmr on a major turn will result in replacement, or Italy in Civil Disorder.

Some of you may have noticed that the heading I put on the email for summer turn was incorrect. It said autumn instead of summer, and of course this is now the autumn turn. Just to keep things clear, it was my mistake and hopefully didn't confuse anyone too much.

That said, Italy and Russia have retreats, see below. They are due in 24 hours or so.

So here is the spring adjudication:

---------------------

England:
F English Channel - London
A Holland - Kiel
F Skagerrak - Denmark (*Fails*)
A Yorkshire - Edinburgh

France:
A Belgium Hold
F Gulf of Lyon - Tyrrhenian Sea
A Picardy - Brest
F Tuscany - Rome
A Venice Hold

Germany:
A Ruhr Supports A Holland - Kiel

Italy:
F Adriatic Sea Hold
A Bohemia Hold
F Ionian Sea Hold (*Dislodged*)
A Tyrolia Hold

Russia:
A Berlin - Munich
F Denmark - Sweden (*Bounce*)
F Helgoland Bight - Holland
F Kiel Supports F Helgoland Bight - Holland (*Dislodged*)
F North Sea Supports F Helgoland Bight - Holland
F Norway - Sweden (*Bounce*)
F Sevastopol Supports A Ukraine - Rumania
A Silesia Supports A Berlin - Munich
A Ukraine - Rumania (*Fails*)

Turkey:
F Aegean Sea Supports F Greece - Ionian Sea
F Albania - Trieste
F Black Sea Supports A Rumania
A Budapest Supports A Vienna
A Bulgaria Supports A Rumania
F Eastern Mediterranean Supports F Greece - Ionian Sea
F Greece - Ionian Sea
A Rumania Hold
A Serbia Supports F Albania - Trieste
A Vienna Supports F Albania - Trieste

RETREATS:

Italian F Ionian Sea can retreat to Albania or Apulia or Naples
           or Tunis.
Russian F Kiel can retreat to Berlin or Baltic Sea or Helgoland
           Bight.

Deadline for retreats will be tomorrow, October 27, 17:00 MDT.

---------------------

There you have it. Maps are attached. See you tomorrow.

(DC 326) Gumball - Spring 1913 Results DELAYED - Corrino   (Oct 26, 2010, 5:59 pm)
Hi Players,

Thanks fto those who submitted orders today, but we still only made it to 5 out of 7 sets of orders.  As you know, I'm not shy about issuing NMR's, but given the day-early deadline AND the fact that the departure time for my trip got moved from 8:30 to 7:30, I'm going to have call for a delay.  Therefore, I am officially postponing the deadline for two days.

NEW DEADLINE:  Thursday, October 28, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.  If your orders are already in and you want to change them, that's fine.  If you want to change your vote (or you forgot to vote!) you can still submit that, too.

Cheers,
Chris

Player list for dc334

We have one retreat!  Boeotian Army Thebes, having been given no orders is no match for the tightly orchestrated raid by the Athenians... but having only one option, I'm just going to nudge it over to Dephi and we move on to Winter!

Ionia is eliminated, both units come off.  A tough stab to recover from, tho thank you for sticking it out to the bitter end!

An interesting Spring as French forces maneuver for position across the board and hostilities continue in the Balkans. The German army in Ruhr can retreat to Munich or OTB. Jason, as before if you've made a final decision let me know and I'll rush the Summer phase, otherwise retreats are due Wednesday 27th at 23:59 GMT.

DC 333, Fall 1905 delay. NEED ORDERS - alwayshunted   (Oct 25, 2010, 7:01 pm)
Hey gang,

I'm missing more than one set of orders for fall, which was due an hour ago. In light of the public draw proposal and votes that went around, I'm going to hold off for another day to make sure that people understand that the draw did not actually occur.

I will say that the draw proposal has failed, so we will be continueing in 23 hours whether I have orders from the offending nations or not.

Warren
