(DC 326) Gumball - Fall 1910 Results - Corrino   (Sep 22, 2010, 10:00 pm)
Hello Players,

England has failed to submit orders for the third time in a major season.  As I said after the last time, he is out of chances.  I declare the position abandoned.  Fortunately, I have had someone waiting in the wings to help us out, so there will be no delay in the game -- beyond the small grace period this evening.

So, here we are with ten years come and gone in our little adventure.  Congratulations to everyone (except England) for staying the course and, amazingly, staying in the game.  Standard games with seven players still alive after ten years are rare indeed.  Gunboat ones are unprecedented, in my experience.  Not that we don't have a couple of players on the ropes, but all-in-all an outstanding
effort.

Highlights of this, our twentieth season:

. Germany strengthens his line against Austria by forcing his way into Silesia.  The unfortunate defenders were not only outgunned by the German troops, but were forced to scatter into the fields as their only retreat was blocked by their own Rumanian division.

. The Rumanian army found a second reason to look embarrassed.  It seems that while they were moving to "help" their comrades in Silesia, they forgot to lock the door behind them and a Russian army slipped in and made themselves at home.  Add another unit to the Tsar's forces, now double what the were a few short years ago.

. In trading Rumania and Constantinople for Bulgaria, the Archduke has lost his long-standing status as the clear number 2 man on the board.  Now on 6 SC, he is tied for second with Italy and France.  The Kaiser, of course, leads the board with 9 SC in his control.

.
Not all Austrian moves proved futile, however.  A Bulgaria finally made good on a long-standing promise and helped his Italian friends into Constantinople.  The Sultan is down to his capital and his last unit.  Don't count him out quite yet, though.  He's a wily one.

. An Italian fleet steams into the English Channel.  What does that mean?  I'm not sure, but you have to admit there's a lot of potential for mischief there.

. In England, our substitute king beats a planned retreat to the safety (?) of Edinburgh.  The friendly (??) Germans in the North Sea "helped" him push him along.

RETREATS:  Turkish F Constantinople auto-retreats to Black Sea, its only legal option.

Ownership:

Austria (6):   Budapest, Bulgaria, Serbia, Trieste, Venice, Vienna.
England (2):   Edinburgh, Liverpool.
France (6):    Brest, London, Marseilles, Paris, Portugal,
Spain.
Germany (9):   Belgium, Berlin, Denmark, Holland, Kiel, Munich, Norway, St Petersburg, Sweden.
Italy (6):     Constantinople, Greece, Naples, Rome, Smyrna, Tunis.
Russia (6):    Moscow, Rumania, Sevastopol, Warsaw.
Turkey (1):    Ankara.

Adjustments:

Austria:   Supp  6 Unit  6 Build  0
England:   Supp  2 Unit  2 Build  0
France:    Supp  6 Unit  6 Build  0
Germany:   Supp  9 Unit  8 Build  1
Italy:     Supp  6 Unit  5 Build  1
Russia:    Supp  4 Unit  3 Build  1
Turkey:    Supp  1 Unit  2 Remove  1

DEADLINE:  Builds and Disbands are due by Friday night, September 24, at 8 p.m. Eastern U.S. time.  If you guys get them in by tomorrow
night, I'll adjudicate early.  Adjustment orders are always assumed final unless otherwise

Cheers,
Chris

Orders as resolved.  Please check for mistakes.  I'm tired and my brain feels fuzzy.

dc337 - Autumn & Winter 1902 Results - z93blom   (Sep 22, 2010, 2:57 pm)
Diplomats,
The English abandon their hold over Egypt, but rebuild a Fleet in Edinburgh. The Russian Empire loses its Fleet in the Black Sea, but do retain their Fleet in Denmark, contrary to what some of the cartographers say. New Armies pop up in central Europe, ready for some action.

The Russian Emergency Measures are in force, and Russia has an additional unit on the board.
Next turn: Spring 1903 Movement
Next Deadline: Monday, 27th of September 2010, 18:00 GMT (6PM).
Autumn retreats:Britain: Remove F Egypt

Winter Builds:Britain: Build F Edinburgh

Italy: Build A Rome

DC 335 Spring 1904 Norway - waltersm1   (Sep 22, 2010, 1:55 pm)
All,
Needless to say, this game hasn't gone according to plan. Mighty
England is on the verge of defeat, helplessly fighting off a FGR
alliance. As some of you have commented in email, my recent moves seem
to have accelerated my demise. You have asked me to fight on, fight on
the beaches, fight on the landing grounds, but please fight. I feel an
explanation is in order.
I'm that rare Diplomacy player that keeps to his commitments (when they
don't get in the way). Sure, if it leads to a strategic advantage, I'm
not against the odd deception; lying is a part of the game. And as a
rule I don't hold grudges (they keep you from winning!)
Well folks, I made a commitment to Russia. And as I spiral into the
abyss, I am going to keep it! A little petty. Yes, maybe. But also an
important object lesson ... those on death row love that last meal!
I look forward to playing with you all again.
Good luck all,
Mike

DC 341: S1901 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Sep 22, 2010, 8:41 am)
Like Christmas morning, it???s the unwrapping of the Spring 1901 orders. Did Santa give you what you wanted? For instance, is there an unguarded Sweden waiting under the tree? Perhaps your army is in Galicia? Or your neighbor honored that DMZ in Burgundy? Or did you get a lump of coal (as signified by a Turkish army in Armenia)? So many presents??? So many ramifications??? It???s enough to make a reindeer pause???

The elves have also left you three attachments: a GIF of the current map, a GIF of the S1901 orders, and a .dpy (in case you???re following along with a copy of RealPolitik, which is what I am using to adjudicate).

dc330: Fa41 Update - dknemeyer   (Sep 22, 2010, 12:14 am)
Hi Folks,
Two mistakes I'm aware of so far:
I keep counting 11 Turkish units but an observer is assuring me there are 12 and thus Turkey only gets 1 build. So, I'm sure I'm missing something and expect just 1 Turkish build.
Also: I mixed up two Italian units: the mover into Austria should be STy, not Slo. I will update the map for this in the winter adjudication.
Thanks,
Dirk

dc330: Fa41 Player Press! - dknemeyer   (Sep 21, 2010, 11:34 pm)
Italian Press:
Communists: are they evil, stupid or both?
Everyone knows that Stalin is a mass murderer. But how many know the evil extremist agenda of President Azana, the leader of the far left regime of Spain?
Walk through any Spanish town in the heat of the afternoon. Bodies lie everywhere - on benches, on sedan chairs, on cosy couches on sweeping verandas. Are they asleep or have they been horribly massacred by the evil ruler lurking in his luxurious apartments in Barcelona? We did not check, but we are pretty sure that they have been horribly massacred. And they stupidity? They did not even destroy the evidence. Evil *and* stupid.
The luxurious apartments? We visited. And what we found was so shocking and so horrifying - and so stupid - that we hesitate to mention it. Having hesitated, here goes: they are torturing puppies. Badly. (By that, we mean that they are trying to torture puppies, demonstrating their evil, but doing it in an incompetent way, such that the puppies are having fun running around chasing toys, getting well fed, wagging their tails, getting lots of pats and so on.) These communists are evil and stupid, that is for sure. They do not know how to torture puppies. Mussolini does, showing his clear superiority.
And that is why Spain must be destroyed: they must be taught how to torture puppies properly.
This exclusive look into the dark world of communism and its many apologists brought to you from the dark world of fascism and its many apologists.

Apologies, but owing to my long day I will eschew the historical flavour this season and simply produce the adjudication. I accidentally skipped the step to produce the map with arrows, sorry about that...
Thanks in advance for correcting any errors, I do get tripped up by the forced Autumn season in Realpolitik that blocks the program from listing proper builds.
There are 2 retreats this season; upcoming deadlines at the end of this note:

Shaping up to be an interesting finish. Can Anglo-Russo peace hold? What of the Anglo-Franco wave sweeping east? Will Bataustria escape the clutches of the vile Rusoker? Stay tuned to the same Imterran Channel at the same Imterran time.
Oh...for those who are not Imterran - the same Imterran time is next Tuesday the 28th at 6pm CST.
A piece of housekeeping - we DID have one retreat: the Italian F in Tunis could only retreat to TYS or OTB. I figured that he did not want off the board. However, Ben can correct me within the next 24 hours and retreat OTB if he wishes. Else we shall move on to Fall!
Good luck.

The defenders of the north suffer quadruple losses this round losing Not, Hid, Izu, and Tot to the south... and normally you could take that in stride if there were some positional gains made elsewhere... but in this case, no, the positional gains go to the south too as they round the corner at the Pacific Ocean.

Joe with 2 consecutive NMR's I need a confirmation from you by the Winter deadline that you're still in the game or your empire (of 1) plunges into Civil Disorder!  Getting eliminated is far better than getting a CD...
