DC 333, Spring 1903 postponed - alwayshunted   (Aug 19, 2010, 12:01 am)
Hi folks.  As possibly expected I have not heard from the Brits, but thanks to everyone else for the orders. I am hereby putting the game on hold and seeking a replacement. Shouldn't take long, but then I will give at least a few days for said replacement to endear him, or her self, to you all.

I shall keep you all posted.

It's a challenging position but by all means competitive. And as a gunboat game it's less of a time commitment than normal. Deadlines 3/1/2 days (moves/retreats/adjustments) but never on weekends. Join up!

DC332 Summer 1904 Adjudication - cfisher6   (Aug 18, 2010, 6:41 pm)
Russian F Sweden retreats to Gulf of Bothnia.
Russian F Sev retreats to Armenia.

Deadline for Fall 1904 moves is Monday 23 at 23:59. A lot of you said that last week's late orders were due to forgetting when the deadline was, so I'd like to go back to weekly Monday deadlines for all major turns. It's also not a bad idea to send me in a 'rough draft' version of your orders when the turn first switches over.

Need a replacement Oda and GM for DC 306 - Kenshi777   (Aug 18, 2010, 3:56 pm)
Urgent: due to complications from surgery for the GM. The game is very well advanced, and will likely not take long to resolve (for the GM). I must confess that the Oda position is something of a mercy position at this point however. Players have voiced a desire to continue. Anyone willing to assist would have my sincere gratitude.

DC287 Worldwide variant EOG Russia - chaosonejoe   (Aug 18, 2010, 11:51 am)

Congrats, Michael. I threw in the towel, but the End was already done.

World Dip was interesting, and the 28 Supplies was rather abrupt, but this game was dragging at this point, so I welcome the resolution.

Obviously no one was watching the victory line, because while Quebec shouted at me that I was basically handing over the game to Congo with our ill-conceived war, there was not talk of the 28.

It was an interesting open for me, since my early parlays with Europe suggested a sound alliance, but then he did what I thought was unthinkable, and went all fleets, and I just couldn't resist the early stab since there would be no way for him to defend. An early agreement with Quebec ceded control of London for a loose arrangement and no fear from the west.

I initially sided with China as he was beset on other sides, and I figured Persia was a country I could not withstand if he grew. Attempts to work with Persia were fruitless.

Sahara was engaged as a natural ally, but that fell through.

After ongoing pleading to Persia to not tie up units in the center, he of course tied up units in the center. I had no choice to pound away, and gave him several outs and several arrangements to work out a mutual position. All the while, Congo grew without pressure from his northern neighbors.

The new China was failing, but I wanted a prop between myself and Oceania, and supported him.

A new Sahara seemed to change some dynamics, but the unappealing nature of diplomacy between the new Sahara, engaging a three-way with pleading and demands that brought in Quebec soured me. Instead of propping up Sahara, I schemed with Congo to divide and conquer.

Sahara/Quebec relationships strained the loose agreement in the North Atlantic. Talk of landing troops in Europe killed the Non-agression pact assumed between the two of us. Unfortunately, it tied up my units, prevented me from expanding, and the slow gains against Persia also doomed my chase to victory.

I tried to assist Mexico, but obviously it was futile to run a race against a Country (Congo) that had twice as many centers.

In hindsight, I should have been part of an anti-Congo alliance, but as was noted, there simply was no direct means of attacking Congo, and by apparent arrangements with Persia and Oceania, there was no direct threat to Congo hegemony in the Southern Hemisphere.

Well played.

Joe Babinsack

DC287 Worldwide variant EOG - Sean2010   (Aug 18, 2010, 10:23 am)
Thank you, Michael Penner for GMing this one.

Congradulations to Michael Sims for his solo.

As many of you remember, I came into DC287 to replace Sahara.

As the new Sahara, the first issues I saw was Russia advancing through Europe, Quebecan-Mexican War, Oceania advancing into China, and Congo advancing on Amazon and appeared to have recently stabbed my predecessor.

I originally attempted to arrange an alliance with Europe to attempt stemming the Russian tide while I dually attempt to seek peace with Congo and form an anti-Congoian coalition with Oceania, Persia, and Amazon. With Persia's appearance of defensiblility, I felt that Persia would be willing to defend while using Congo as a building platform to form an offensive force to use at his discretion.

1. Europe and I were unable to form an alliance, so I opted to approach Russia instead.

2. My method to dually approach Congo for peace and test his willingness had failed. In fact, the entire exercise proved to counter productive for either Saharan survival or any chance I had at bringing Sahara back into the game.

3. Although Persia, Amazon, and I had managed to form a coalition against Congo, it was incredibly short-lived.

After it became obvious Persia, Amazon, and I weren't going to be able to stem the tide on Congo, which my aid to Russian expansion into Europe likely didn't help matters with my relations with Persia, it became clear I'd have to divert Congo to survive.

I suspect Congo sensed this, and he used it to advance his expansion into a position where he could better dictate terms with maximum consequence. It was definitely the right move since I continued to seek a backup strategy of forming a counter alliance to push Congo back, but those attempts failed utterly. My last ditch effort towards countering Congo included convoying a Russia army into Tri while attempting to get Quebec to bottle the Atlantic but neither worked. Due to this, I believe my suspicion Congo placed me right where he wanted me.

At the same time, I've resigned myself to attempting to using my units to best aid Congo while attempting to survive. The strategy seemed to be paying off, but I believe Congo saw what I saw. Congo could potentially solo this one by eliminating Sahara and moving on Persia/Oceania or both.

Russia struck me as Congo's principle rival in this one, and Congo's determined strategy prevented direct Congoian-Russian conflict.

Well done and Congradulations Michael Sims on your solo.

Good game all.

from Sean

All,I apologize for the inordinately long delay. I have been at the crucial planning moment for my upcoming wedding and that kept me unusually busy over the last week. The delay for the out of town really pushed us into that super busy zone. That said, most time-sensitive things have been wrapped up and we should be back on track now. Again - I apologize and will get us back on a steady schedule.
So, it would seem that my "HoHum" note resonated with at least one country - Russia! The Russians, under fierce fire from the north, decide that it is time to bolster their defenses with some new builds at the expense of Austria! Austria loses 2 centers while the French build one and Russia builds one. Does this herald new alliances or merely a shifting on the board? Does Austria survive? Do all other fronts stalemate with virtually no movement? Find out next turn.
As it is, we had no retreats so we move to Winter. For Winter we need the following:Austria remove 2Russia build 1France build 1
Winter deadline is Thursday the 17th at 8pm CST. From there we will set Spring 06 for the following Thursday the 24th at 6pm CST.
Sorry again. We are back on track.Garry

Constantinople Has Many Fleets That Try to Dock In the StraitsFrench Ejected from the Italian PeninsulaAn English/German/Russian/Austrian Stalemate Has Seemingly Formed While Italy and France Trade Southern Blows
All,There is really limited action this Spring. We have no retreats needed (the French A in Tuscany had no retreat options available so it was disbanded) so we can move to the Fall. For Fall however, we have a player who is away on vacation for the next few weeks with limited access at best. As such, they have requested a longer deadline and I will allow it. Therefore we won't have Fall05 until:
Tuesday August 10th at 6pm CST
That should give that person time to return and have some "fruitful" Diplomacy (rolling eyes since all moves seem boring at this point).
Please check my work and yell if you have any issues. Otherwise enjoy the remainder of July!

After sending out a few reminders I received most of the moves in time, and then realized I had forgotten to send a reminder to one of the absentees. I don't believe it would have been fair to process without giving the other player the same opportunity to get his moves in, so had to delay slightly longer. I'm very sorry for the delay!

I've been pretty forgiving with late moves up to this point, but only receiving orders from 2/7 players is a little much. In the future I will try to send a reminder to those of you I haven't received orders from 24 hours in advance--but I don't think I will delay the game as much anymore and will process no orders as NMRs if the deadline expires. After sending orders, please make sure that I have sent an email indicating they have been received--I will ALWAYS do this, and usually very quickly.

There are several retreats this phase, due Wednesday 23:59 GMT.  No orders received will result in the units being destroyed.

dc330: Fa39 Results! - dknemeyer   (Aug 17, 2010, 4:53 pm)
As the heat of summer turns into the colours of fall the events of the world continue apace:
Building off the recent smaller event in Britain, on July 2 the 1st World Science Fiction Convention opened in New York City
On August 2 Albert Einstein writes to U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt about using uranium to develop a super weapon called the "atomic bomb". This gets Roosevelt thinking...
On October 11 Einstein follows up with a letter urging the United States to rapidly develop the atomic bomb
With unprecedented defeats at Changsha and Guangxi tis year, the Japanese suffer setbacks that encourage the Chinese to begin preparations for a massive counter-attack..it remains to be seen how it goes.
And of course, Europe and the surrounding lands remain a blood-stained mess!
There are three retreats and only a modest number of builds and disbands for this year. Orders are due Thursday; you may submit conditional builds and disbands based on retreats!

Congrats to Chris Morse! - dknemeyer   (Aug 17, 2010, 2:12 pm)
As the Winter Blitz runner-up it is my painful pleasure to congratulate Chris Morse for winning the tournament! The WB is a tough, tough tournament to win and Chris really came thru in style, with fat center counts in each of his 2-way draws. Well done Chris!!!

Hey gang,

Spring is due in just over 29 hours, and I am still missing most of the orders. You MIGHT get a reprieve if there is another English nmr, but don't ever count on it.  GET 'EM IN!
