DC287 - Summer break - Viper (Jul 22, 2010, 3:17 pm) |
Hey guys... I have received a request to delay the season due to vacation. I will grant the extension, which means we'll have to wait until Wednesday, August 4, to resolve the spring orders (of which I have very few). For future reference, please let me know when you are unavailable before you become unavailable. It is better to overstate your inaccessibility than to think you can get orders in and NMR. Whenever I am away, I assume a lack of internet connection and request the entire time as a delay... if I can get orders in, I do, but I don't leave the expectation that I will.

Hey guys... we're pretty close to the end of our summer vacation here... The deadline is now just a day and a half away (Wednesday at 1pm CDT). There will be no extensions and I will adjudicate as soon as I can regardless of whose orders are in. Please get those orders in before then.

Here we are... only 24 hours to go until the deadline. I have three sets of orders. Could be a pretty lame turn if that's all I get.

DC319: GM unreachable - TJKnauss (Jul 22, 2010, 1:28 pm) |
Hi everyone,
As Jimmy has experienced, I have had this result for every message I have sent since July 17. As a service to the game, you can cc: all of your messages to me, and I will hold them for our game-meister until his return. No, no, really, it is no trouble, I have plenty of available space. And I won't even peek.
Sincerely, Kyle

A new look for DC! - Dudemaster (Jul 22, 2010, 12:30 pm) |
Hello! While I am not the most regular of visitors and this is a fairly old topic, here are my 2 recommendations (this is a partial democracy after all!):
1. This is important. The logo of the website needs to be remade. Now, I am not an artist of any sort, but if there are any on this website, why not put up a message on the front page for them to see? The logo is fine and its size fits in just fine with the [excellent] website design, but it is terribly pixellated and the letters cannot be made out. Also, it is not too distinctive to make a visitor think every time he/she sees the logo 'Why, this must be about Diplomaticcorp!' So for those reasons, while a new logo is not urgent by any means, why not look into it? There is nothing to lose!
2. [minor] On the front page, on both Google Chrome and the Opera browser (maybe others, I don't know) the [non-HTML] line break has the writing 'DC is undergoing some renovations - please post any comments or ideas in the Help & Suggestions forum.' over it while the writing should probably be above the line break. If this could be fixed, that would be great. It's not of big importance anyway, although I wouldn't call it nitpicking either.
Regardless of these fairly minor annoyances, if you will, the website looks a million times better than the old website. There is now a proper, fully existent 'House style' (a term used to denote consistency in the layout of a website) and the website seems much better overall and also easier to use.
Congratulations!

1. The Logo is always up for reconsideration if there are any graphic artists out there who can help out, come find us!
2. No prob, this should be fixed. Moved it up one line. Was just the wrapped (last few words) part going too low on the page? On my screen it was fitting fine unless I sized the screen down too narrow. |

Congrats Michael, and thanks Joey for doing such a good job on the GM. The only EOG I have is that this game really bit me in the ass because whatever my plans were, Joe monkey wrenched them in the most frustrating way - and yet I must admit he beat me and I was plainly outdone - even if it was very unconventional. I guess I learned from this game that every strategy has the potential to ruin you if you don't treat it serious enough.
As for the press, whoever wrote it, it was entertaining enough to keep my attention, so good job there.
Hope to see you all in the future....

[DC 328] Fall 1903 Abjudication - dreamsynergy (Jul 22, 2010, 2:50 am) |
Here's the much awaited Fall Abjudication. I understand some of you might have been concerned over the delay. I just turned 21 over the weekend, had a massive celebration that resulted in a hangover on Monday, and work piled up on Tuesday and Wednesday. That's the long story cut short
Fall 1903, Austria is no more. In the north, England finally ousts Russia from Scandivania. English and French fleets wrestle for control of the Mid Alantic to no avail again. Germany throws some support to Italy but Italy seems to be looking elsewhere. Turkish fleets force Italy to retreat out of the Ionian under a barrage of heavy support.

(DC 326) Gumball - Spring 1906 Results - Corrino (Jul 21, 2010, 6:52 pm) |
Hey Gumballers,
First, thanks to everyone for getting your orders in on time. It seems as a group you're pushing it later and later, which makes me sweat a little bit, but as long as you come through in time I'm happy.
Now, what's going in Europe this fine Spring season?
Can you say "Bounce?" Can you say "bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce?"
By my reckoning, there were 14 units ordered to move. Only three of them succeeded. Here's a handy and informative chart to illustrate my point.
Country (Units That Moved / Units Ordered to Move or Support a Movement )
Austria ( 1 / 4 )
England ( 1 / 3
)
France ( 0 / 0 )
Germany ( 2 / 2 )
Italy ( 0 / 2 )
Russia ( 2 / 2 )
Turkey ( 0 / 1)
Totals ( 5 / 14 ) = 36 %
Now, what do we learn from this? Mainly that Chris has too much time on his hands. But, if we combine that insight with the full set of orders revealed below, we can take pleasure in finding a handful of shiny, wisdomy nuggets. To wit:
. Russia had his most successful turn in a long time. Enjoy it while you can, Tsar.
. France is very patient? (Um, Monsieur le President, I think you need to move that lever there to shift out of neutral.)
. Austria & Italy are scary psychic, but still can't pull of the convoy.
. Our English king does not value the North Sea as highly as some might expect. Let the guessing games
begin!
. Germany wants to be helpful; he just hasn't quite got the hang of the whole "contiguous spaces" concept.
. It's never a bad day to fruitlessly attack Spain, regardless of how many times you've tried it before.
RETREATS NEEDED: None, amazingly.
NEXT DEADLINE: Fall 1906 is due next Wednesday, July 28, at 8 pm Eastern US time. Not that you have to wait that long. Hint, hint.
Please check the orders posted and let me know ASAP if any mistakes have been made. Play on!
Cheers,
Chris

FLWC f08 Results! - FuzzyLogic (Jul 21, 2010, 3:01 pm) |
After 8 years of scampering from village to village in pursuit of a safe place to live, the Elves fail to find their way into Pwyll. This takes us down to 12 players remaining. Georg it was a good run! But we digress... Getting back to the battles at hand, the Ogres continue to disperse to far reaches of the world via the underground passages, and the fighting around the Spiral Castle continues with great ferocity... this round the scales tipping to the southerners as the Faeries lose a vessel to the Archer cannons and the Ogres reign in the Kingdom of Hearts.
We have what looks to be a very exciting Winter!
Undead F The Old Gristmill can retreat to Dhunia.
Undead F THE MAW can retreat to Merrow.
Centaur A Cave of Ordeals can retreat to Sorrows End.
Ogre A Necronomicon can retreat to Merrow.
Archers: Build 2
Faeries: Build 1 (no buildable centers)
Knights: Build 1
Ogres: Build 4 (Build 3 if the retreat to Merrow succeeds)
Pirates: Build 1
Samurai: Build 2
Undead: Even (Remove 1 if the retreat to Merrow succeeds, or even Build 1 if both retreats go OTB)
Trolls: Even (Build 1 if the Centaurs go OTB)
Remember if two units retreat to the same space (Merrow) both are disbanded so plan builds accordingly.
RETREATS and BUILDS are due together, Friday 7/23 11am Central / 16:00 GMT! (earlier than normal)
Enjoy,
-mike

Note also that we still have a 5-way draw proposal for votes with this season. Abstention = vote not counted, *not* a "no" vote. Unanimous yes votes (of those received) will result in the proposal passing, which is for a Chosokabe/Mori/Hojo/Uesugi/Asakura draw.

Not sure if I ever published this, but Matt agreed to the 10 day first season, so the Fall 1575 deadline will be 1700 EST, July 25th. I will be in training that day, so expect a late evening adjudication. After that, we should be back to smooth sailing for this game - 5 business days between major seasons.
Now how about some haiku?

I failed to note that the 25th (today) was a Sunday when I set the new deadline after Matt joined the game, and I know that at least one of our players does not have regular access to email over the weekends. If I do not receive prelims in time for tonight's deadline from all players, Fall 1575 will be pushed until tomorrow night, Monday, July 26th, 1700 EST, which will be a final deadline.

(DC 324) A Stab in the Dark - Autumn 1911 Results - Corrino (Jul 21, 2010, 10:25 am) |
We're ALL TIED UP and heading for SUDDEN DEATH!
The Wicked Witch of the East has 17 SC.
The Wicked Witch of the West has 17 SC.
And there ain't no more Munchkins to be found. Adieu, Monsieur France! Arrivederci, Monsignor Italy! Thanks so much for playing. We'd love to hear your thoughts -- as well as those from our other dearly departed guests. Send them to me and I'll publish them in an attractive commemorative editiion after the games is over.
But right now it's all about our two finalists. Who do you like? I'd love to give you odds on each player, or on the chance of a stalemate, but that wouldn't really be fair, would it? I've got just a little bit too much inside information. You'll just have to wager blind. Given the nature of this game, what could possibly be more fitting than that? Hence...
THE LOSERS CONTEST (A, F, G, I and R eligible)
Here's a chance for those of you no longer in the running to show your stuff. Send me a message with your predictions about the outcome of the game. The player who comes closest wins, um... I don't know. Probably nothing but a brief feeling of redemption after getting so seriously toasted in the game itself.
1. Who will win? Yes, you can choose "Stalemate" if you want. (Sucker!)
2. What year will the game end?
3. How many SC will the victor claim?
4. Which SC (or multiple SC) will the winner capture to put him/her over the top? Name of the territories.
CHALLENGE CONTEST (all players eligible)
Name the winner! If you ARE the winner, name the second place finisher. Heck, just take some guesses and see how many of your fellow Stabbers you can identify. It was something of an all-star line-up, if I do say so myself. Surely you recognized that old foe's knifework in the dark?
Hints:
1. We have five players who competed in the Winter Blitz. Three of those have over 20 points.
2. The two that didn't compete in WB both hold DC ratings above 1300.
3. Across the group of seven players we have a total of 8 soloes taken in DC play.
4. There is no hint # 4. Maybe later, if necessary.
Cheers,
Chris
You want to see the chart? Okay, here's the chart. Just to be official.

England 17
France 0 ... eliminated 1911

NEXT DEADLINE:
Winter 1911/Spring 1912 are due on Friday, July 23 at 8 pm Eastern US time.
I already have PRELIMS from both witches. I don't feel compelled to stick to a rigid schedule at this point. Once you both give me the "FINAL" signal I'll adjudicate as soon as is practical for me.
