DC 312 Spring 1905 adjucation - FLTeacher   (Apr 26, 2010, 4:58 pm)
Life happens and other things are given the priority over games. Mistakes happen. We are all human. Forgiveness, patience and understanding are great attributes to have.
John, I am thankful that you have been the GM of this game. I have no complaints ... except that you aren't telling me all the others' moves before my final orders are submitted. Smile

I don't think Poul was saying negative about John. He was just inquiring.
Anthony.

Poul,

Sorry If I took your email the wrong way. Mostly it's just been juggling the 5 diplomacy games. I normally cap out at 3, but circumstances led me to take on a couple more than I prefer. Also, last august the building where I work was destroyed by a tornado, and we are just beginning to actually start breaking ground to rebuild, so there have been a lot of work-related things going on too. I'm not sure how I misplaced the F Aeg, but everything else has been pretty much the result of me trying to do adjucations too quickly and not doublechecking my work.

I think things have calmed down a bit. I felt pretty good about this adjucation. This time the missing F aeg must have just been an rp thing or something. I think things might be slowing down a bit. I think this has been a very good game so far. It's been exciting to watch. We'll keep on with business as usual.

And since email is such a rotten method to communicate such things as emotion, I want to let you guys know that none of the questions or comments here bothered me. Don't read any of my responses as upset or angry at all. I'm giving the game what I have to give, and I'm content with that. If others feel like the game deserves more, and want a replacement, that really doesn't offend me at all. And short of replacing me, you'll just get what I'm able to give. I'm at peace with that. I'll try to have as few mistakes in adjucations as possible, but I'm human, and mistakes happen. If people do have an issue with that, they need to play Dip with a electronic judge. For me, I always prefer the live gm, mistakes and all. And again, that's why I gm. It's not an ego trip for me, or even exceptionally enjoyable (though I don't mind it at all). It's just me trying to do my part to give back to the Dip community.

Remember to get those fall moves in!

John

1. I am not complaining about John. 2. I am asking if there is a problem since he has a lot of errors. That means, 3. That I basically ask the reason. And it is understood, 4. That I would like to know whether it's a Realpolitik problem, a Realworld problem, or another kind of problem.

Right Daan. I normally will give a bit of grace and accept orders until I begin adjucation. But again, the only way for you guys to be sure your orders will get in is to have them in by the deadline.

Thanks!

To respond to Jack's question. The deadline counts only for the players. If the orders are send after the deadline, than it doesn't count whether the gm is making some mistakes. At least, that is my opinion.

you're doing a fine job John.  Blitz time does get a little out of hand for people who decide to GM, not to mention your 1st round still going.

I appreciate your work,

Poul (and all),

Yeah, you are correct. For some reason, my RP file lost your unit there. This makes the attack on bul succeed. And we need a russian retreat from bul (to rum, bla, con or otb). On the attached files, the russian unit in Bul is not there because I had to manually adjust the map.

And as to the errors. I'm in 5 dip games right now between GMing and playing, and three of them are blitz games. And thats a bit over my limit. So apologies for that. I keep hoping some of them will end soon! So someone hurry up and win!!! Smile

Besides the missing support from Aeg to Gre- Bul, you seem to have mislaid Aeg totally. What is the problem actually? You seem to have errors in a lot of judgments?

Hey all,

France NMRed, which is odd, since he emailed out his comment to Daan, but I never got any moves for this season from him.

So anyway, England stays pretty much the same, Germany swings east with modest progress. Russia and turkey attempt to shore up their defenses, while italy uses this turn to reposition.

No retreats so onward to  fall!

Spring 1905 sees an exchange of
centres in the north west with russia taking Sweden off
Germany, who in turn receives English support into Holland,
with the French loss of Holland compensated by the taking of
Berlin.

Elsewhere Italy NMRs (his first) and Turkey takes advantage
by forcing his way into Ionian.

The attached .dpy file contains an error...it appears that
Realpolitick, when faced with a retreat from a player who
has just NMRed, automatically disbands the force
concerned.  This is specifically against my house
rules, which state that a player NMRing has an opportunity
to specify any retreats.  I'll have to do this via a
manual adjustment on Realpolitick - so the attached map and
.dpy file is missing the retreating Italian fleet in the
Ionian Sea.

I'll need that retreat by 2100GMT tomorrow 27th April, else
the fleet will be disbanded.  Fall 1905 moves will be
due Friday 30th April at 2100GMT

SNC seeks SCR (dc320) - FuzzyLogic   (Apr 26, 2010, 4:13 pm)
SNC Seeks SCR

"Single Neutral Center Seeks Single Capable Ruler"... hits the want-ads everywhere as center after center go unclaimed due to differing opinions of appropriate rulership: Sweeden gets bounced by GR, Belgium by EF, and Rumania by TR leaving us 4 unclaimed neutrals going into year two!  Offended, the Tunisians seem to have nobody fighting over them, or even remotely interested - Even the "Welcome Italy Day Parade" got only a scant turnout as the Italians sail into Greece turning their backs on their typical first turn gains.

NEXT - we have lots of builds!  Something for everyone, as long as everyone doesn't mean Russia too.

A,E,I,T are +1
G,F are +2

Russia can take the turn off.

BUILDS:  By Wed 4/28, 3pm Central.  Builds - I may always send out early if I get a full set, just to not keep the game on hold for minor turns.

Enjoy!

Guys,
isn't this a bit preposterous: a 3-Draw at this stage in the game?Actually I feel insulted by this EGP.And why exclude Italy? Italy still stands a better chance than Russia. Or was it because of the NMR?
Also funny that Turkey and Russia would want to share in a Draw.
The more I think about this EGP I get the feeling someone tries to humor us.

I'm voting no as well, but I am doing so because I believe it's too early to propose such a draw. I believe we're in the beginning of the end not the end.

You probably all know this already anyway, but just in case you didn't:
Per my rules, draws don't have to include all survivors. Anyone not included in a draw and with more than one unit on the board (those in civil disorder excepted) would receive a survival result.
On a separate note, whilst public voting is perfectly acceptable, it's by no means compulsory, and a private message to your GM on votes is all I need.
Not that I'm suggesting any of you would be so underhand as to publically vote in a different way to your private vote...

Guys,

isn't this a bit preposterous: a 3-Draw at this
stage in the game?
Actually I feel insulted by this EGP.
And why exclude Italy? Italy still stands a better
chance than Russia. Or was it because of the NMR?
Also funny that Turkey and Russia would want to share
in a Draw.

The more I think about this EGP I get the feeling
someone tries to humor us.

Frank

And we
have a three way draw proposal on the table...for a
France/Russia/Turkey draw.  Votes with Fall moves
please - a unanimous yes is needed, with lack of a vote
counting as a no, and Austria being in civil disorder
excluded from the vote.

DC 312 Spring 1905 adjucation - untitled36   (Apr 26, 2010, 2:37 pm)

John

dc318 - Winter Blitz 2010 Spring 1905 results - z93blom   (Apr 26, 2010, 2:34 pm)
Blitzers,

(Updated version - with correct dates and a Subject line that includes the game number - for easier parsing. Sorry about that slight mistake).
Russia and Germany finally manage to overcome England, after five years of inactivity. Will this also signal the end of the stalwart Frenchman? Not this year at least since he managed to hold off the German advances on the mainland. In the other corner Turkey plays it safe and succeeds in doing that, stopping the small incursion attempt by Italy. An Italy that sees Fleet movement west, but not much else happening.

We are in need of two retreats:English A Liverpool can retreat to Yorkshire, Edinburgh, Wales or OTBEnglish F London can retreat to Wales or OTB.
Both units will default to OTB unless I hear something from the much absent English.

Also: A reminder - send your orders not only to me but to orders(at)diplomaticcorp as well - just in case I won't be able to adjudicate.

Smile

Smile

DC319: Fall 1936 Moves - charlesf   (Apr 26, 2010, 12:21 pm)
Hallo zusammen,

in the protracted Battle for Madrid arms shipments through Portugal gave
the Caudillo's forces sufficient oomph to rout the poorly equipped
Republican militia defending the capital (the historical Battle for Madrid in
late 1936 arguably ought to be rated as a simple bounce). Following this
critical victory, many countries have chosen to recognise the Franco's
provisional government, much enhancing its diplomatic clout (i.e. garnering 2
DPs for 1937).

While the socialist camp has thus fared poorly in Spain, Stalin's apparent
focus on matters closer to home following his "socialism in one country" motto
does seem to be paying off. Both Latvia and Finland have been "invited" to
join the USSR, while the Shah has accorded the Red Army basing rights
in his realm. This establishes the Soviet Union as a regional player in the
Near East, while Kemal's Turkey has colluded with Egyptian anti-imperialists in
reclaiming the Suez Canal Zone. Considering how the British Empire has failed to
make gains elsewhere, it remains to be seen whether Downing Street's influence
in the region shall survive cuts to naval expenditure.

Similarly, the other long-established colonial power, France, has been
forced to cede French Algeria to a resurgent Italy. Yet at least closer to home
the Président can boast of some success in that a French counteroffensive in the
Maritime Alps has pushed the Franco-Italian frontline down into the Po Valley.
However, in the Low Countries France was no more successful than Britain in
getting a foot into the door.

Another flashpoint of greater power rivalry was Sweden. While Poles and
Soviets amicably agreed upon Latvia's fate, it appears the two powers weren't on
the same page when it came to Europe's leading exporter of iron ore. And it
looks like the Reichschancellor was mindful of maintaining Sweden's neutrality,
perhaps in view of securing future shipments of all that Swedish iron ore to
German industry.

And talking of the German Empire, Berlin has managed to exploit the
Sudetenland Crisis to good effect as the international community's attention is
squarely preoccupied with other matters. Prague's gold reserves shall surely
help swiften the pace of German rearmament.

A note regarding retreats and adjustments: Obviously any dislodged unit has
the option to disband. So I won't expressly point that out in adjucations.
Any builds or removals subject to whether or not a unit disbands rather than
retreats are marked with a question-mark.

A reminder: Since retreats and adjustments are adjucated together, orders
for both need to be jointly submitted. Adjustments may be made conditional on
any retreat orders. Say: "If X retreats to Y, build a fleet in Z. If not, waive
the build." I trust you get the idea...

I'm always rather curious at what rate minor powers are gobbled up by
larger fish in the pool. Eight have succumbed this year (plus the ungarrisoned
Madrid SC). That a whole lot less than in my earler 1926 playtest. 13 minor
powers bit the dust in the first year in that game. This very high rate was the
result of an IMO rather unusual degree of cooperation among the seven
players and to a lesser degree the on account of the 1926 map used for that
game making minor-power conquests in the Balkans easier. My view is
that 1936's minor powers have somewhat greater staying power as a whole than was
the case in that 1926 variant version.

The Winter 1936 Retreats/Adjustments are
due to me NLT 6PM CET on Wednesday, 28 April.

Thanks for being so mindful of CCing me on negotiations. It's been most
instructive to watch. I'm curious how things shall further develop!

Liebe Grüsse,

Charles

you're doing a fine job John.  Blitz time does get a little out of hand for people who decide to GM, not to mention your 1st round still going.

I appreciate your work,

Besides the missing support from Aeg to Gre- Bul, you seem to have mislaid Aeg totally. What is the problem actually? You seem to have errors in a lot of judgments?

Poul (and all),

Yeah, you are correct. For some reason, my RP file lost your unit there. This makes the attack on bul succeed. And we need a russian retreat from bul (to rum, bla, con or otb). On the attached files, the russian unit in Bul is not there because I had to manually adjust the map.

And as to the errors. I'm in 5 dip games right now between GMing and playing, and three of them are blitz games. And thats a bit over my limit. So apologies for that. I keep hoping some of them will end soon! So someone hurry up and win!!! Smile

you're doing a fine job John.  Blitz time does get a little out of hand for people who decide to GM, not to mention your 1st round still going.

To respond to Jack's question. The deadline counts only for the players. If the orders are send after the deadline, than it doesn't count whether the gm is making some mistakes. At least, that is my opinion.

Well, here we go!  That's what it feels like to have all the order in on time.  Thanks to all for being diligent about that.  We've only got one retreat that needs to be cleared up, so as soon as that happens we'll move on to the fall.  If I get the retreat today, I'll set the next deadline for Friday, if not then I'll be gone for a week and we'll have to wait until I get back... no pressure.

Smile

John

Besides the missing support from Aeg to Gre- Bul, you seem to have mislaid Aeg totally. What is the problem actually? You seem to have errors in a lot of judgments?

Hey all,

France NMRed, which is odd, since he emailed out his comment to Daan, but I never got any moves for this season from him.

So anyway, England stays pretty much the same, Germany swings east with modest progress. Russia and turkey attempt to shore up their defenses, while italy uses this turn to reposition.

No retreats so onward to  fall!

DC 312 Spring 1905 adjucation (Winter Blitz) untitled36 Apr 26, 02:37 pm

John

Life happens and other things are given the priority over games. Mistakes happen. We are all human. Forgiveness, patience and understanding are great attributes to have.
John, I am thankful that you have been the GM of this game. I have no complaints ... except that you aren't telling me all the others' moves before my final orders are submitted. Smile

I don't think Poul was saying negative about John. He was just inquiring.
Anthony.

1. I am not complaining about John. 2. I am asking if there is a problem since he has a lot of errors. That means, 3. That I basically ask the reason. And it is understood, 4. That I would like to know whether it's a Realpolitik problem, a Realworld problem, or another kind of problem.

Try reading my mail again.

Right Daan. I normally will give a bit of grace and accept orders until I begin adjucation. But again, the only way for you guys to be sure your orders will get in is to have them in by the deadline.

Thanks!

John

To respond to Jack's question. The deadline counts only for the players. If the orders are send after the deadline, than it doesn't count whether the gm is making some mistakes. At least, that is my opinion.

you're doing a fine job John.  Blitz time does get a little out of hand for people who decide to GM, not to mention your 1st round still going.

I appreciate your work,
Alan Farrington
