1648 091010: HRE Rule - charlesf   (Apr 13, 2010, 5:07 pm)
Nigs, Jorge and Marc,

thanks for your input. I've now added the following to the variant rules after the previously cited excerpt:

"Therefore, the imperial crown may only change hands during winter turns. As adjustments follow in Diplomacy upon winter SC control changes, it follows that a newly elected Holy Roman Emperor may immediately make use of his newly acquired building privileges."

If anyone can come up with a better phrasing, I'll happily accept suggestions. Smile

Yep, seems clear to me.

And i am looking forward to it, if I can hold my gain.

I think that everything could be inferred from the last paragraph, but the one that precedes it makes the game specifics very clear. Adding a version of it to what you already have makes the rule more immediately comprehensible.

Hi guys,

just a friendly reminder that our deadline's now in less than 24 hours. Wednesday, 6 PM CET.

While I've touched upon this point in quite a few private mails, I think a more general reminder can't do any harm:

The Imperial Crown only changes hands in winter since it is then that actual SC control changes. As builds follow upon winter SC control changes, it follows that HRE privileges may be immediately used upon receiving the imperial honour.

Now, I think this is quite clear from the following sentence in the variant rules: "The Great Power owning the most HRESCs is considered the Holy Roman Emperor and enjoys the described building privileges. The title only is transferred whenever one single Great Power other than the present office-holder (initially Austria) controls the most HRESCs." But my question is to you: Do you think I ought to further elaborate on that or is that sufficiently clear? Did anyone not understand how these things work from reading the rules?

Cheers,

Charles

A simple solution to the mystery - txurce   (Apr 13, 2010, 2:46 pm)
Fellow DC diplomats,

Russia can solo by holding, and he can avoid eliminating Turkey by taking Kiel and withdrawing from Smyrna. It's all in his control.

If the rest of you want to find out who is voting against the solo, or foil his reason for doing so, there's a very simple solution: everyone order "All units hold."

There is no reason for any player other than Russia to be moving any units, except to extend the game.

I vote in favor of an early decision, early vote. Russia votes "Yes". Is the best way for each player to individually write to you to say that they are voting for an early decision as well as what their vote is?

I vote in favor of an early decision, early vote.  Russia votes "Yes".  Is the best way for each player to individually write to you to say that they are voting for an early decision as well as what their vote is?

DC 299 Austria EOG - fencertim   (Apr 13, 2010, 9:32 am)
Wow, wow, wow. This was the most exciting game I have ever been a part of and I thank each of you for your participation.

The beginning looked pretty grim for Austria as in the very first move I saw Germany in Tyrolia and Russia in Galicia. Typically, not a positive start for the red pieces. However, after an insane amount of e-mail to Russia I convinced him that Germany was up to no good and would bounce him from Sweden while still getting Russian support into Vienna. Thankfully Paul followed through on his plans and Russia believed me and I get two builds. Which takes me to my first mistake….I built a fleet. With the diplomatic win I got with Russia and France/Italy on the warpath I figured a fleet would be the best option…wrong. That build just encouraged Germany to hang out in Tyrolia a little longer.

Ross, I would like to know if I had any influence on getting you to stab into the Western Triple? How you did not win this game outright after that I will never know. By the way I would have continued on with Russia had you not moved your army out of the north. Once that happened it gave Russia the secure border and he moved south….i had to make peace.

There came a time when I made a little stab of Russia then we patched things up and went after Turkey because we were tired of the Turk NMR’s. When the Turk was out Russia just exploded and I knew I was in trouble. He stabbed me but it was no surprise however England and Germany decided to attack the north and Russia fell quickly after that.

Italy, my most trusted ally, it was very difficult to make that stab. Around that time draw talks started to come up Germany did not want to include Italy and I did not want to include England, neither of us wanted a 4 way. Germany was in no configuration to attack England and England would not stab into Germany so we could take it to a two way. Even at the last few minutes before the deadline I was e-mailing Ross to take this to a two way. (maybe Ross if your second round started a little better you would have considered this?)

To England: Like I said before, when you got to 9 the first time I have no idea how you didn’t just take over this game. Actually it was the NMR’s! Stabbing when you did was just perfect timing then you missed making the builds. I look forward to seeing you on the board again, I really enjoyed our discussions.

To Turkey: we didn’t talk a lot but when we did it was right to the point and I appreciated that. I look forward to playing again sometime.

To France: We spoke a few times and most were not positive, I don’t know what your problem was with me but maybe I do know what I am talking about and just maybe I did have an idea what was going on in the game.

To Mr. Russell (red paul/black paul) looks like we are building a friendly rivalry. Maybe one of these days we can work together? I will feel bad for the 5 other players on the board that day. You certainly bring out the best in my game. I’ll say here that I never really expected to turn Russia at the beginning of the game so there was a lot of resignation in my letters during that time.

To Alan: Thank your for your work as GM I was very nice to come home eat some dinner then turn on the e-mail and get the game results like clockwork. Many thanks for the fine job.

I am sure there is a lot I missed but those were some of the highlights from the Austrian perspective. Good luck to all of you in your second round.

DC300 - Spring 1906 adjudication - cfisher6   (Apr 13, 2010, 9:22 am)
As Dirk said we can say what we want in public, but all it takes is someone behind the scenes to screw it all up. To be honest that hadn't occured to me, I thought that our public vote would count and I'm in favor of that being the case if at all possible.

2010/4/13 <loganlaw299-at-aol.com (loganlaw299-at-aol.com)>

That just leaves Ben: perhaps Frank does not want us calling everyone out in public.  But just to make it clear France votes YES again.  Bruce

Yes but it doesn't matter a damn what we all say publicly it just takes one to screw it up behind the scenes.

DC300 - Spring 1906 adjudication - dknemeyer   (Apr 13, 2010, 9:09 am)
Hey Bruce,

I agree this is the most logical explanation but I've talked to Sun a
fair amount in direct press and am pretty convinced he is NOT the one
delaying it. That is the source of my frustration, I think it is
happening either out of apathy or maybe somebody is just spiteful and
trying to prove a point. I'm not sure. As has been pretty clearly
illustrated, Russia WILL have the solo at the end of this year.
