Camel Spotting - when it rains... - FuzzyLogic   (Apr 05, 2010, 3:47 pm)
When it rains...
...you go to Crete. Unless it's conquered, in which case your GM has to get the orders right.

Egypt conqured Crete, not Cyrene! (come on how country names actually start and end with C/e, and have another e and an r in between?)

So Egypt is +1, Greece is -2, and Rome is still +2.
(Egypt had to retreat to EGY instead)

All 3 sets of builds due tomorrow!

dc320 pre-pre-game-start! - FuzzyLogic   (Apr 05, 2010, 3:25 pm)
Hey everyone, and welcome to this, the 320th game of Diplomaticcorp Diplomacy!

This is just a little pre- pre-game email to tell you that a pre-game mail is in the works, and make sure you've all signed up for a game of Diplomacy! If that is not your game, or you thought you were signing up for Parcheese, that's the next door down.

But if it is Diplomacy that you seek, let me know!

We have 7 signed up, so I need a reply from 7 players to get us rolling. I tend to run a pretty tight ship when it comes to Dip, and this game should be no exception. That is, results will come out fairly timely when the deadline comes about. In the first year, I don't allow NMRs. I will hold a game for anyone who hasn't got moves in, just in case there's any newbies who don't quite know the ropes, etc. Once year 1 is complete, then we move to the normal pace of a week per major turn! That's around 5-6 days for the spring or fall phase, and 1-2 days for any retreats or builds. We'll probly settle on a consistent day of the week, tho I haven't thought that far ahead yet.

If you have country preferences: Pls submit them in the AEFGIRT fashion, listing them from most to least preferred. If "any" is ok, let me know that too. Also if you have any allergies we need to know about, or if any of you suffer from UPS (uncontrollable predisposition to stabbing) - others might want to know that up front.

I think that's about it for now!
More when we have 7 confirmed.
-mike

Sam,

Ray is right. The stalemate line is consolidated: Mos, War, Sil and Mun are protected by StP, Liv, Pru and Ber. No possibilities to move there. On the west, Gas will always be protected by Bur S Par-Gas. This means you can't advance on France. On Iberia, Por is safe as long as MAO stays in our hands. And even if you get to put fleets in both NAf and Spa(sc) besides WES, MAO will always be safely protected by NAO and Por, with the surplus of Bre. Tactically, therefore, there's zero chance you'll get the 18th sc.

Diplomatically, there's also zero chance Ray and I will stop cooperating to avoid your solo. Regardless of past differences, it's obvious that we both prefer to participate in a 3-way draw than to be defeated by your solo.

So it is a draw, even if we continue to play ad infinitum. Hope that you'll also vote yes and that we'll end the game on Thursday .

Best,
João

Apologies for the further delay.  I
set the deadline for Monday night not realising I was at a
football (soccer) match, and last night unexpected house
guests meant I couldn't get the results out...

Anyway, Spring 1903 sees further action across the board,
with Russia continuing to get squeezed, losing both Berlin
and Sevastopol, whilst England is evicted from the continent
by France.

The Russian army in Sevastopol can only retreat to Moscow,
so I've made that retreat.  If Russia wants to disband
said army, let me know asap.

Fall 1903 deadline is Tuesday 6th April at 2100 GMT.
Slightly longer than i'd normally set due to Easter holiday

dc316 winter 1901 results - coryfucius   (Apr 05, 2010, 1:53 pm)
I had a bit of miscommunication with the tournament directors last week, so the winter 1901 results are just now coming out... my apologies for keeping everyone waiting.

Due to the lengthy delay, we are modifying the 1902 deadlines, so that everyone still has time to engage in diplomacy during the movement seasons:
Spring 1902 will be due Wednesday 4/7.
Fall 1902 will be due Friday 4/9.
Autumn and Winter 1902 will be due Saturday 4/10 - but if all orders come in quickly after the Fall 1902 results are posted, I'll run the turn Friday evening (US Central).

The deadlines listed above will allow us to get back on the regular Blitz schedule for Spring 1903.

As noted above, Spring 1902 orders will be due Wednesday 4/7 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT. I did receive prelims from some of you already, but feel free to revise your orders in light of the deadline extension. Thanks for your patience, everyone!

DC300 - Fall 1905 adjudication & EGP - bielf11   (Apr 05, 2010, 12:36 pm)
Fall 1905: Russia moves further east; its expansion to the south is blocked by the Turks.\
Germany moves closer (in)to France but the English fleet force the Germans to retreat from the North Sea; Italy moves west, seemingly pushing France into a more defensive position.

The first EndGame Proposal - Solo for Russia - is up for voting with Winter adjustments.
A missing vote is a NO vote so only if I have received a YES from all remaining players, is the EGP accepted.

DC287 - Newsflash - worldwidegm at gmail.com   (Apr 05, 2010, 12:34 pm)
***Newsflash***

Yesterday, Christians around the world celebrated the resurrection of their Lord.  Today, Worldwide Diplomacy players have another resurrection to celebrate: DC287.  I realize the game has appeared to be dead for much more than three days, so that's probably a poor comparison, but I thought maybe if I was witty you guys might be more willing to forgive me.

I won't bore you with the details of what happened unless you're really interested.  The result, however, is that I will no longer be treating this as a test game and more as a regular game.  To be clear, NMRs will now be adjudicated as such and grace will not be shown to unreceived orders.  The goal is to finish this game as quickly as possible from here on in.  I had eight sets of orders in before this lengthy break, so I will assume those and move forward from there.  I may have received more orders in the meantime, and if I did, I'll respond to them.  I haven't opened any of the emails from the interim... if I ever need a hit to my ego, I'll go back and read about how awful a gm I assume you think I am.

I am committed to finishing this game, and I am still excited to see what happens from here on in.  My apologies once again.

I'll set a deadline for the current set of moves of Wednesday, April 7, at 1pm CDT with a promise of adjudicating it that afternoon/evening.

DC300 - Autumn 1905 & EGP - bielf11   (Apr 05, 2010, 12:32 pm)
Autumn 1905: German F North Sea retreats to Yorkshire.

1905 has been a year of heavy terrain losses for Germany who lost Munich and Belgium. The Russians are pushing the German army to go west, entering the French domain.
Meanwhile England is successfully fighting back the Germans on the seas. Will this be the turnaround for the Germans who were so successful earlier?
Italy has moved further west and closer to France but France hasn't been sitting idle either, taking control of Belgium.

Adjustments
-------------------
England:    Supp   2 Unit   3   Remove  1
France:      Supp   6 Unit   5   Build  1
Germany:   Supp   4 Unit   6   Remove  2
Italy:          Supp   6 Unit   5   Build  1
Russia:      Supp 15 Unit 13   Build  2
Turkey:      Supp   1 Unit   2   Remove  1

End Game Proposal - Russian Solo - is up for voting with Winter adjustments.
Only if I receive all YES votes is the EGP accepted. Any NO vote or missing vote will reject the EGP.

Deadline for EGP and Winter adjustments is Wednesday, April 7 at 17:00 GMT.

Hey all,

Wow, busy weekend, what with the holiday and all. Hope you had a great weekend with friends and/or family. But now it's time to get back to stabbing!

There was one misorder I want to clarify. From Austria I received both A Tri-Vie, and F Tri s Ion-Gre. Obviously the latter is intended to be F ALB instead of F TRI. I debated whether to make A tri hold because of contradictory orders, but since one was valid and one was not, not to mention only one had a correct unit deisgnation, I choose to let A tri-Vie take effect. I checked DC's homerules for GMs, and the most recent diplomacy rulebook, and there was no clear ruling there, so I'm making the call on that.

Also, I normally try to input moves in realpolitik as I get them, but with the holiday weekend, I was unable to. So I believe I got everyone's most recent set of orders in. But double check and make sure!

We do need a retreat from Russia. F swe can move to either Fin, Bot, Bal, or Ska (or otb). Get that to me by tomorrow at 14:00 GMT. If you get it in early and marked "FINAL," then I will post it when receive it.

Thanks all! Have a great week!

John

Subject: dc316 fall 1901 results!

Plenty of movement this turn. England's convoy to Belgium goes unopposed. Italy convoys to Tunis, but runs into Austrian defense of Trieste. Austria gains Greece, despite Turkey's attempt to move there himself. Russia gains Rumania, but is bounced from Sweden by the German fleet. Sweden is left as the only neutral center still unclaimed.

Everyone has winter 1901 builds due tomorrow, Friday 4/2 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT, as follows:
Austria: build 2
England: build 2
France: build 2 Germany: build 2 Italy: build 1 Russia: build 1
Turkey: build 1

I will be out of town tomorrow, so one of our esteemed tournament directors will adjudicate the winter phase. PLEASE be sure to cc: the Orders box, or your builds won't be recognized. I will be back for the spring 1902 season. Thanks, everyone - and special thanks in advance to Garry or Mike Sims for filling in for me tomorrow.

Hey all,
DC has been booming lately, with 38 active games! With all this flurry of action, as Fredrik's indicated below, we've completely tapped our GM list... if anyone wants to try their hand at running a game, step on up!

Once you get the hang of it, running a game only takes about 20-30 min per week to do.
