DC292: Spring 1908 Adjudication - Samnuva   (Mar 01, 2010, 7:30 pm)
Another action-packed turn ushers in 1908. Italy trades Naples for Venice, while England scored the move into Clyde it's been ordering for a while. We also have a draw proposal on the table. THis proposal is a 2-way RA draw with survivals for F, I, and E. The one retreat we have is Austria's A Venice (TUS, APU, or OTB), but all of you should send me your votes by the summer deadline. A single "nay" vote will cause the vote to fail, and failure to submit a vote means that the vote therefore fails.

Austria:
A Budapest - Vienna (*Bounce*)
A Constantinople Hold
A Greece Hold
F Ionian Sea - Naples
A Rumania - Bulgaria

dc291 spring 1908 results! - coryfucius   (Mar 01, 2010, 6:52 pm)
First things first, the 2-way E/T draw proposal is voted down, so the game continues.

Both Austria and Russia march toward Paris, while Turkey sails into the vacated Marseilles. England takes a crack at Belgium, but the unordered German fleet stays in port and hangs on to the center. Austria's fleet sails back to its home port, but no other eastern units move. Interestingly, England and Russia bounce in Sweden.

No retreats are due, so we move directly to fall 1908, for which orders are due Thursday 3/4 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT. My work schedule will be very hectic this week, so please bear with me if you don't see a confirmation e-mail right away; I'll attend to my GM duties as time permits. I fully intend to run the turn on Thursday. Thanks!

Cory

DC290 Winter 1901 adjustments - neversawthatcoming   (Mar 01, 2010, 5:56 pm)
I would like to thank the anonymous tipster regarding Turkey's impending stab. Now that the original message has been delivered, I had it flurospiocally analyzed and discovered that it had traces of both schnitzel and maranara sauce. Still unable to determine where the message originated.

Austrian Scientist D. Weeb
"It was work on analyzing the food stain or inventing the atom bomb. The food stain seemed easier."

Howdy everyone,

Sorry about all of that. I just want to say now that for now on, regardless of whether I will be gone or what, I am going to need orders in on time. Grace periods will still be awarded for the first "offense", then after that straight NMR's. Let's be on time people! Now on to the game. A lot of trash talking going on, this was a big season for press, so make sure you check all of that out. And just for clarification, if you decide to post anonymously, I will create a title for it myself, unless you provide me with one. The Ottomans seem to be building up for an attack, but keeping quiet as to where that will be. The German and Austrian armies are growing in size, abandoning the sea. Britain, Russia and France are all setting sail for the spring, while the poor Italians sit back and watch the arms race. Here's the builds:

ADJUSTMENTS:
Austria:
Build A Budapest
Build A Vienna

England:
Build F London

France:
Build F Marseilles

Germany:
Build A Kiel
Build A Berlin

Russia:
Build F St Petersburg(nc)

Turkey:
Build A Constantinople
Build A Ankara
Build F Smyrna

DEADLINE:
The deadline for spring 1902 will be ***Saturday, March 6th, 9:00pm EST*** Hopefully you can all get orders in as soon as you get this, and if not, get them in before the deadlines! I may not be able to send out warning e-mails.

PRESS:
Live, from Geneva, it's WHEEL OF EUROPE!

While in Europe, where Jeopardy is all the craze, the American people require something more sensational and luck-driven. President Teddy Roosevelt, to combat increasing apathy among his people, has decided to broadcast international news via a game show. And so the re-education of the American people begins

Bobbarkerfan: And we're back to Wheel of Europe! Justin, you can start, given that you have the most depots. And the category is: phrases. Spin the wheel!

Justin: *Spins wheel, lands on $400* D, as in Don't count your eggs until they're Hatched

Bobbarkerfan: One D, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ D _ _ _ _ _ _ Spin again!

Justin: I'd like to buy a vowel: E, as in Every bear has his day

Bobbarkerfan: 4 es:

_E_E_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ D _ E _ _ _ E Spin again!

Justin: *Spins wheel, lands on Bankrupt*

Bobbarkerfan: Ohh, I'm sorry! You're back to zero. next let's see: Ross, our newcomer!

Ross: *Spins wheel, lands on $700* P, as in, I thought Piedmont and Picardy are safe!

Bobbarkerfan: One P, PE_E_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ D _ _ _ _ _ E Go again!

Ross: I'd like to buy a vowel: I, as in, Iberia will be mine!

Bobbarkerfan: And we have an I! PE_E _ _ _ _ _I_ _ _ _ _ D _ E _ I _ _

Ross: I'm on a roll! *Spin wheel, lands on $2000*

Bobbarkerfan: Now's your big chance! Every letter is worth $2000!

Ross: G, as in

Maslow: Gutsy?
Kyle: Gamble?
Joe: Gallant?
Ross: No, go home.

Bobbarkerfan: And G as in.... get outta town! You bust big time, no Gs!

Crowd groans sympathetically:

Bobbarkerfan: Ok, Matt your turn.

Matt: S, as in slow and steady.
Bobbarkerfan: You need to spin the wheel, Matt. But you're wrong anyway. Ok, Joe, go.

Joe: *Spins wheel, lands on $300* B, as in, Black Hand? Hah!

Bobbarkerfan: 3 Bs, and one word is done.

PE_E_ _ _BBI_ _ _ _ _ D BE _ I _ E Spin again!

Joe: *Spins wheel, lands on $250* R, as in, Roaring out of the starting gate!

Bobbarkerfan: 2 Rs! PE_ER R_BBI_ _ _ _ _ D BE _I_E Spin again!

Joe: *Spins wheel, lands on $500* L, as in, laugh out loud stab

Bobbarkerfan: PE_ER R_BBI_ _ _ _LD BE _I_E

Joe: *Spins wheel, lands on $300* J, as in Junta in Greece 66 years early.

Bobbarkerfan: No, I'm sorry, but racking up some good quiet points.

Joe: Shhhhhhh!

Bobbarkerfan: Kyle the King is up next!

Kyle: *Spins wheel, lands on $700* W, as in the Welsh invasion of the continent

Bobbarkerfan: Two Ws!

PE_ER R_BBI_ W_ _LD BE WI_E Spin again!

Kyle: *Spins wheel, lands on $600*: D, as in, Dunkirk in reverse.

Bobbarkerfan: No, I'm sorry. Maslow, go for it!

Maslow: Thanks Bobbarkerfan, I'm so excited to be here. I'd like to say hi to my mother and my family and to the boys back home: Wiggidy Niggidy! Don't worry they'll get it.

Bobbarkfan: Uhh, great. Spin the wheel!

Maslow: I'd like to solve the puzzle?

Bobbarkerfan: Are you sure? You won't get any points...

Maslow: Alright, let's spin this thing! I can get more points that way. Spin round and round! *Spins wheel, lands on lose a turn.

Bobbarkerfan: Oh, I'm sorry you lose this turn. Too bad. Take it away Michael!

Michael: *Spins wheel, lands on "?"*

Bobbarkerfan: Bonus! Name a price, any price!

Michael: INFINITY!!!

Bobbarkerfan: We need a real number, sir.

Michael: Infinity minus 1

Bobbarkerfan: No, that...

Michael: Minus 2!

Bobbarkerfan: You realize if you get it wrong you owe me that money. And I'm not a man to be crossed.

Michael: Oh. Well then, infinity minus 5.

Bobbarkerfan: Wha- how about we say $5000?

Michael: Very well. T, as in Terrible Threesome!

Bobbarkerfan: You got it! $10,000!!!!! PETER R_BBIT W_ _LD BE WI_E Spin again!

Michael: *Spins wheel, lands on $1,200*

Bobbarkerfan: High roller!

Michael: S, as in Southern Slap

Bobbarkerfan: You're on a roll! PETER R_BBIT W_ _LD BE WISE Solve the puzzle?

Michael: I'd like to spin again.

Bobbarkerfan: Are you sure?

Michael: Yes.

Bobbarkerfan: Really?

Michael: As Austin Powers said: I also like to live dangerously. *Spins wheel, $300* X, as in X marks the spot!

Joe: X?

Michael: X

Justin. X....

Ross: X? Really?

Maslow: X? What about, every other letter.

Michael: X it is!

Justin: X....... Wait a min-

Michael: X!!

Justin: WHAT X IS MINE!!!

Michael: Mine now!

Bobbarkerfan: Seems like X isn't up there my friend.

Michael: Doesn't matter - Justin didn't get it! I win! I WIN!

Bobbarkerfan: Tune in next week for:

Michael: Next week? I thought we were just playing this one round.

*Joe and Justin eye Michael hungrily.*

Maslow starts shouting: Peter Rabbit Would Be Wise!! Peter Rabbit Would Be Wise!! Peter Rabbit Would Be Wise!! Peter Rabbit Would Be Wise!! Peter Rabbit Would Be Wise!! Peter Rabbit Would Be Wise!! Peter Rabbit Would Be Wise!! Peter Rabbit Would Be Wise!! Peter Rabbit Would Be Wise!!

Bobbarkerfan: Yeah, doesn't count. Can't just know the answer, gotta play within the game, too.

Maslow: Wiggidy Niggidy Damn!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A letter from a secret source has been intercepted heading for the Archduke of Austria:
"Hey Franz, don't be an idiot. The Sultan's gonna stab you."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DATELINE SWITZERLAND, Bitter, Bitter December, 1901
Players, let's get back to the DipJeopardy board...

Bobbarkerfan: "We still have 4 categories... "Bodies of Water," "Liars & Cheats," "Words beginning with 'F'," and "Potpourri." ...and remember players, there is still one Daily Double to help you somewhere on the board."

Bobbarkerfan: "Mike, you've done very well so far, select a new category for us, won't you?"

Mike: "I'll take 'Words beginning with 'F' for $100,"

Bobbarkerfan: "And the answer is...'A medieval verse tale characterized by comic, ribald humor.'"

:::Kyle buzzes in:: "FLEETS -- as in fleets in the English Channel?"

Bobbarkerfan: "A clear violation of a earlier agreement, but not what we were looking for..."

:::Joe buzzes in::: "What is FLATULENCE?"

Bobbarken fan: "Name it and claim it, but no..."

:::Maslow buzzes in::: "I've had just about enough of this FREAKIN' over the top press. Also, Bob, I'd like to request a different podium, somewhere much further away from the Austrian...and do you happen to have an air freshener?"

:::buzz-buzz-buzz::: "Sorry, players, we were looking for 'What is fabliau?"

Bobbarkerfan: "Mike, you're still in control, select..."

Mike: "I'll take 'Words beginning with 'F'' for $200, bobbarkerfan."

Bobbarkerfan: "And the answer is 'Readily crumbled or brittle.'"

:::Kyle buzzes in::: "Bobbarkerfan, I have no idea, but I, too, would like a podium further away from the Austrian."

:::Matthew buzzes in:::: "What is foucault?"

Bobbarkenfan: "You're not entitled to use French words UNTIL you enter Paris..."

:::Justin buzzes in::: "Friable -- best exemplified by my former southern fleet."

Bobbarkerfan: "Remember to phrase your response in the form of a question..."

Justin: "What is friable -- best exemplified by my former southern fleet?"

Bobbarkerfan, "That's it."

Justin: "I'll take 'Words beginning with 'F'' for $300."

Boboarkerfan: "And the answer is...'What this game MOST needs at this moment?"

:::Kyle buzzes in::: "As Miss Universe, 1901, I think we should, like you know, have world piece."

:::all players again stare at Kyle in amazement.:::

:::Maslow buzzes in::: "What is fumigation?"

Bobbarkerfan: "Select..."

Maslow: "I'll take 'Words beginning with 'F'' for $400."

:::ding ding ding ding ding ding ding::::

Bobbarkerfan: ."It's our DAILY DOUBLE. Maslow, you trail at the moment, how much do you want to wager?"

Maslow: "I'll bet all my units in the coming year by not defending VEN and pulling a surprise convoy to ALB."

Bobbarkerfan: "And the answer is "Rocket 'J'"

:::long pause:::

Maslow: "What kind of crappy question is that? Bobbarkerfan, I have no idea, but let me say again that I gonna get that Austrian, if it's the last thing I do."

Bobbarkerfan: "Oh, sorry...and you wagered everything. We were looking for "Flying squirrel."

Maslow: "Let's finish up 'Words beginning with 'F'' for $500..."

Bobbarkerfan: "And the answer is...'Mistress Lash'"

:::Ross buzzes in::: "What is floppy?"

Bobbarkerfan: "True, but not what we were looking at...er, I mean looking for."

:::Michael buzzes in::: "What is flexible?"

Bobbarkerfan: "And how would you know that?"

:::Joe buzzes in::: "What is floozy?"

Bobbarkerfan: "A floozy with a whip...players...let's take a break. We need to get as many commercials in as NBC jammed down our throats in the 1900 winter olympics."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VIENNA, Winter, 1901
It pains Ferdy -- greatly -- to see what happened last turn. Please know that I would sincerely love to work with the Italian...I simply asked that he trade me ROM and VEN for GRE. Unbelievably...he got all upset and refused. Then I asked him to get down on all fours, bark like a dog and send a letter to all players saying that he had been a very bad boy. Apparently, he's is still considering the offer.
Mistress Lash
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That's it for press. Great job everybody, keep up the good work with the press, it adds a lot to the game. Have a good week, and get those orders in!

Hi guys,

life in Swabia's peasants must be living hell. To date this strategically important province of the Holy Roman Empire has witnessed five invasions ever since Europe's monarchs once again embarked in war. Yet if the downtrodden locals happen to be the losers in all this, at least the Emperor will be relieved that for the time being Germany's eight electors still for the most part support him.

In the Baltic, Sweden's suffered a setback as the Poles have conquered Mitau and Riga, yet the arrival of Cromwell's men further to the north might yet alter the equation in that theatre.

Anyway, Summer 1654 retreats are due on Wednesday, 6 PM CET.

Liebe Grüsse,

Charles

Hi guys,

life in Swabia's peasants must be living hell.

Charles

DC290 Winter 1901 adjustments - bobbarkerfan1   (Mar 01, 2010, 4:26 pm)

Russia:

A letter from a secret source has been intercepted heading for the Archduke of Austria:

"Hey Franz, don't be an idiot. The Sultan's gonna stab you."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DATELINE SWITZERLAND, Bitter, Bitter December, 1901
Players, let's get back to the DipJeopardy board...
Bobbarkerfan: "We still have 4 categories... "Bodies of Water," "Liars & Cheats," "Words beginning with 'F'," and "Potpourri." ...and remember players, there is still one Daily Double to help you somewhere on the board."
Bobbarkerfan: "Mike, you've done very well so far, select a new category for us, won't you?"
Mike: "I'll take 'Words beginning with 'F' for $100,"
Bobbarkerfan: "And the answer is...'A medieval verse tale characterized by comic, ribald humor.'"
:::Kyle buzzes in:: "FLEETS -- as in fleets in the English Channel?"
Bobbarkerfan: "A clear violation of a earlier agreement, but not what we were looking for..."
:::Joe buzzes in::: "What is FLATULENCE?"
Bobbarken fan: "Name it and claim it, but no..."
:::Maslow buzzes in::: "I've had just about enough of this FREAKIN' over the top press. Also, Bob, I'd like to request a different podium, somewhere much further away from the Austrian...and do you happen to have an air freshener?"
:::buzz-buzz-buzz::: "Sorry, players, we were looking for 'What is fabliau?"
Bobbarkerfan: "Mike, you're still in control, select..."
Mike: "I'll take 'Words beginning with 'F'' for $200, bobbarkerfan."
Bobbarkerfan: "And the answer is 'Readily crumbled or brittle.'"
:::Kyle buzzes in::: "Bobbarkerfan, I have no idea, but I, too, would like a podium further away from the Austrian."
:::Matthew buzzes in:::: "What is foucault?"
Bobbarkenfan: "You're not entitled to use French words UNTIL you enter Paris..."
:::Justin buzzes in::: "Friable -- best exemplified by my former southern fleet."
Bobbarkerfan: "Remember to phrase your response in the form of a question..."
Justin: "What is friable -- best exemplified by my former southern fleet?"
Bobbarkerfan, "That's it."
Justin: "I'll take 'Words beginning with 'F'' for $300."
Boboarkerfan: "And the answer is...'What this game MOST needs at this moment?"
:::Kyle buzzes in::: "As Miss Universe, 1901, I think we should, like you know, have world piece."
:::all players again stare at Kyle in amazement.:::
:::Maslow buzzes in::: "What is fumigation?"
Bobbarkerfan: "Select..."
Maslow: "I'll take 'Words beginning with 'F'' for $400."
:::ding ding ding ding ding ding ding::::
Bobbarkerfan: ."It's our DAILY DOUBLE. Maslow, you trail at the moment, how much do you want to wager?"
Maslow: "I'll bet all my units in the coming year by not defending VEN and pulling a surprise convoy to ALB."
Bobbarkerfan: "And the answer is "Rocket 'J'"
:::long pause:::
Maslow: "What kind of crappy question is that? Bobbarkerfan, I have no idea, but let me say again that I gonna get that Austrian, if it's the last thing I do."
Bobbarkerfan: "Oh, sorry...and you wagered everything. We were looking for "Flying squirrel."
Maslow: "Let's finish up 'Words beginning with 'F'' for $500..."
Bobbarkerfan: "And the answer is...'Mistress Lash'"
:::Ross buzzes in::: "What is floppy?"
Bobbarkerfan: "True, but not what we were looking at...er, I mean looking for."
:::Michael buzzes in::: "What is flexible?"
Bobbarkerfan: "And how would you know that?"
:::Joe buzzes in::: "What is floozy?"
Bobbarkerfan: "A floozy with a whip...players...let's take a break. We need to get as many commercials in as NBC jammed down our throats in the 1900 winter olympics."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

VIENNA, Winter, 1901

It pains Ferdy -- greatly -- to see what happened last turn. Please know that I would sincerely love to work with the Italian...I simply asked that he trade me ROM and VEN for GRE. Unbelievably...he got all upset and refused. Then I asked him to get down on all fours, bark like a dog and send a letter to all players saying that he had been a very bad boy. Apparently, he's is still considering the offer.

Mistress Lash

That's it for press. Great job everybody, keep up the good work with the press, it adds a lot to the game. Have a good week, and get those orders in!

I would like to thank the anonymous tipster regarding Turkey's impending stab. Now that the original message has been delivered, I had it flurospiocally analyzed and discovered that it had traces of both schnitzel and maranara sauce. Still unable to determine where the message originated.

Joe: X?

Ross: X? Really?

Maslow: X? What about, every other letter.

Michael: X it is!

Justin: X....... Wait a min-

A letter from a secret source has been intercepted heading for the Archduke of Austria:

"Hey Franz, don't be an idiot. The Sultan's gonna stab you."

:::long pause:::

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VIENNA, Winter, 1901
It pains Ferdy -- greatly -- to see what happened last turn. Please know that I would sincerely love to work with the Italian...I simply asked that he trade me ROM and VEN for GRE. Unbelievably...he got all upset and refused. Then I asked him to get down on all fours, bark like a dog and send a letter to all players saying that he had been a very bad boy. Apparently, he's is still considering the offer.
That's it for press. Great job everybody, keep up the good work with the press, it adds a lot to the game. Have a good week, and get those orders in!
A few French orders were wrong (the map and .dpy were right - just the orders in the ORDERS section were listed incorrectly). Fixed below,
Things get scary for Austria as he barely escapes elimination by the good graces of the French (now when do you ever hear that?) And everywhere else things really heat up! Turkey matches his game high of 4 supply centers for the first time since 1905, Russia maintains his 3, and France muscles into Kiel due to a bit of confusion on the part of the Nowegian ladies...
There are 2 retreats, both Norwegian, and both with only one choice so I'll just move them. Jorge if you prefer you could take both OTB and build +1 instead.
And we have a DIAS proposal for next Spring.
Hey all,
DC has been booming lately, with 38 active games! With all this flurry of action, as Fredrik's indicated below, we've completely tapped our GM list... if anyone wants to try their hand at running a game, step on up!
Once you get the hang of it, running a game only takes about 20-30 min per week to do.
DC300 - Spring 1903 Adjudication - bielf11   (Mar 01, 2010, 1:43 pm)
Spring 1903: winters on the Balkan can be harsh. Very harsh. Only the toughest survive out there. And others... they vanish. Without a trail.
So also the remnants of what once was the powerful army of the Austrian empire. Without a leader they have fled into their mountains or to their coasts. Leaving their land in Civil Disorder.
France and Italy contest the rights to Piedmont without a winner. Their forceful attack on Tunis however meets no resistance at all. The French also try to take Ruhr from the Germans but see their attempts thwarted. In the Nordics the Germans support a Russian attempt to take the North Sea but see it thwarted by the English who had to use all of their power to regroup their fleet. Russia has more luck in the Balkan and gains a strong foothold.
The Turks force the Italians out of Greece but find themselves forced out of Serbia by the Russians at the same time.
At the start of Summer 1903 we have 2 retreats pending. See below.
Adjudication
------------------
Austria:
A Trieste, no move received
England:
F London Supports F Norwegian Sea - North Sea
F Norwegian Sea - North Sea
F Skagerrak Supports F Norwegian Sea - North Sea
France:
A Belgium - Ruhr (*Fails*)
F Brest - English Channel
A Burgundy Supports A Belgium - Ruhr
A Marseilles - Piedmont (*Bounce*)
F North Africa - Tunis
F Western Mediterranean Supports F North Africa - Tunis
Germany:
F Helgoland Bight Supports F Norway - North Sea
F Kiel - Denmark
A Munich Supports A Ruhr
A Ruhr Hold
F Sweden Supports F St Petersburg(nc) - Norway
A Tyrolia Supports A Vienna
A Vienna Hold
Italy:
F Apulia - Venice (*Fails*)
A Greece - Serbia (*Dislodged*)
F Ionian Sea - Tyrrhenian Sea
A Venice - Piedmont (*Bounce*)
Russia:
A Budapest - Serbia
A Galicia - Budapest
A Moscow - St Petersburg (*Fails*)
F Norway - North Sea (*Fails*)
A Rumania Supports A Budapest - Serbia
F Sevastopol - Black Sea
F St Petersburg(nc) - Norway (*Fails*)
Turkey:
F Aegean Sea - Greece
A Bulgaria Supports F Aegean Sea - Greece
F Constantinople - Aegean Sea
F Eastern Mediterranean - Ionian Sea
A Serbia Supports A Trieste (*Dislodged*)
Josa, our AH player has used all his Grace periods and NMR'd twice, meaning he is eliminated from this game.
For AH it means that all his units, just A Trieste in his case, go into Civil Disorder. Had AHs position left him any chance of survival I would have sought a replacement player but with only unit left the AH population is at the mercy of its neighboring Powers.
Retreats
------------
Italian A Greece can retreat to Albania; or OTB.
Turkish A Serbia can retreat to Albania; or OTB.
Now this is an interesting situation that asks for exceptional diplomatic skills: two units requiring retreat and only one location.
Deadline for Summer 1903 retreats is Tuesday Mar 2 at 17:00 GMT.
France NMRs again. Maybe he is still hung over from the Olympics.
Otherwise, it's a quiet year of further westward expansion by the Tsar and the Sultan.
Is the endgame inevitable? Or is there a magic card hidden up somebody's sleeve?
FLWC - prelims? - FuzzyLogic   (Mar 01, 2010, 8:59 am)
Hey everyone,
Just a quick reminder that the spring 01 deadline for the Haven is quickly approaching! I have prelims in for most folks, tho a couple have yet to send such in.
Also, I'm interested in how the Diplomacy is playing out... as this is still somewhat of a playtest, any info you find interesting or challenging and want to share in your order submissions is welcome... it'll give me some feedback on how things are working.
-mike
From: Michael Sims
Sent: Tue 2/23/2010 10:20 AM
Subject: FLWC: Game-Start!
Greetings!
And welcome to this, the three-hundred and third game of Diplomaticcorp Diplomacy. This game shall henceforth be known as “Furry Little Woodland Creatures”, in honor of the FLWC - standing up for the rights of little (and furry) woodland creatures all throughout the Haven world. With a strong presence in this game the FLWC will surely keep a watchful eye on the progress.
I’m glad you came out to play this! I spend a lot of time thinking of Diplomacy variants and how to make them interesting and challenging… I know most of you - some have been past opponents in complex games, others are running incredibly tough Winter Blitz games, some are regulars that have been playing at dc since the early years… and a few are completely new. All of you have had at least some sort of good impression on me regarding your diplomatic abilities to be invited to the game!
Who am I? (aside from some guy that designs mysteriously ominous looking maps?) Well most of you probly already know me. But for those who don’t, I’m one of the moderators here at dc, and have been playing Dip for 5 or 6 years. I got hooked early on making fantasy variants, and this one is by far my greatest concoction. It took months of work to get it just right so hopefully you find it enjoyable. I live in Lisle, IL (a small suburb of Chicago) w my wife and 3 little kids… I do network administration and web design work for a living. (intros are welcome from all – we’re going to be here a while!)
Keep in mind I tend to run a consistent and predictable game. If I say results are going to be out, chances are they will be so within a short time after the deadline. Thus, if you don’t get moves in on time you are subject to a typical NMR (no moves received) in which all your units will hold. These have a funny way of turning the game upside down unpredictably so if you don’t want to find your race suddenly in chaos and regrouping just to stay alive, use prelims. Use them all the time. Consistently using prelims is the best Dip skill you can ever learn. (right after lying, cheating, stealing, plotting, misdirecting, evading, … )
So what are we waiting for? Who are you playing? Find out now!
If any of you don’t have a “Location” on the website, feel free to update that (or let me know and I can) – it’s always fun to know where your enemies are playing from).
Let’s set the first deadline for Wednesday March 3, at 3pm Central US time (2100 GMT). This gives you a little over a week for the first turn (longer than the typical deadlines will be).
Enjoy!
DC 298 Spring 1908 - untitled36   (Mar 01, 2010, 7:35 am)
And fair warning: Thursday is my son's birthday, and I may be taking part of the day off. So I'm not sure if adjucation will happen right at 7:00 CST, and, yes, I will accept changes until I begin adjucation. I imagine I'll still get it done around the usual time, but we are still discussing our plans for that day. Just as an FYI.
Interesting turn. England rallies well and reclaims the channel while Austria kicks France out of Budapest (but loses serbia). It looks like the alliance structure has settled down, and I can at least see the intent of most of the players now. And the game is still very well balanced. Sure, Austria and Germany are up against the ropes, but they've not given up yet, and anything can happen!
We did have three retreats, but as all of them only had one choice, I auto adjucated. If you want otb, let me know. But for the moment: French F eng-Pic, French A Bud-Vie, and Italian F Eas-Syr. If you want it changed tell me by 13:00 GMT tomorrow. Otherwise, see you all by Thursday at 13:00 GMT!
DC 298 Spring 1908 - untitled36   (Mar 01, 2010, 7:31 am)
Hey all,
Interesting turn. England rallies well and reclaims the channel while Austria kicks France out of Budapest (but loses serbia). It looks like the alliance structure has settled down, and I can at least see the intent of most of the players now. And the game is still very well balanced. Sure, Austria and Germany are up against the ropes, but they've not given up yet, and anything can happen!
We did have three retreats, but as all of them only had one choice, I auto adjucated. If you want otb, let me know. But for the moment: French F eng-Pic, French A Bud-Vie, and Italian F Eas-Syr. If you want it changed tell me by 13:00 GMT tomorrow. Otherwise, see you all by Thursday at 13:00 GMT!
John
DC 298 Spring 1908 (Winter Blitz) untitled36 Mar 01, 07:35 am
And fair warning: Thursday is my son's birthday, and I may be taking part of the day off. So I'm not sure if adjucation will happen right at 7:00 CST, and, yes, I will accept changes until I begin adjucation. I imagine I'll still get it done around the usual time, but we are still discussing our plans for that day. Just as an FYI.
DC305 Conquest and Collaborations is Afoot! - ignite107   (Feb 28, 2010, 10:39 pm)
I'm excited with so many new players to see just how unpredictable this game is going to be.  I encourage you all communicate regularly, as communication is the key to diplomatically getting everything your heart desires (Supply Centers, chocolate, and olympic gold).
First up, your country assignments.  I did what I could to assign top choices to everyone, of course I could not fully accommodate but it was pretty close.
Austria - crisott2000: gomwolverines12-at-aol.com (gomwolverines12-at-aol.com)
Adjudications will be approximately 7 days for each Spring / Fall, 2 days for retreats/builds.
Send your moves with the following subject line please
dc305 SEASON YEAR - COUNTRY
All moves will receive a confirmation and I will accept moves up until I start adjudicating.
NMRs are never fun for anyone.  Send in preliminary moves - moving without a plan is still better than holding and not having a plan.  Get your moves in early to avoid any confusion.
If a player NMRs once we will continue with that player, a second NMR will put the game on hold til we find a replacement.
FIRST DEADLINE
March 8, 2010 : 5pm CT
Enjoy, have a great game!  Any questions, comments or concerns, let me know.
