ACD236/DC288: Balkans1860 Spring 1862 Results - Th... - Kenshi777   (Feb 19, 2010, 4:27 pm)
Serbia was among the first of the breakaway Ottoman provinces in
Europe, and emerged independent only to find itself the pawn of
Austrian and Russian influences, who dominated her political arena,
even after the establishment of the Kingdom of Serbia in 1882. Beset
on all sides, Serbia has always been the front line of divide between
East and West in Europe, and this division - extending to her culture,
demographics, religion, and even loyalties - has undermined what was
otherwise a powerful and fiercely independent people.

And so it is with Garry here - fiercely independent, constantly
managing the foreign influences that threaten to destroy him. Though
the Austrians take with one hand (Sarajevo), they give with the other
(cutting support of Ancona). Garry loses Bitola and Beograd, but
gains Ancona and Sofia, a move which seems to have been unexpected by
the Bulgarians. So he ends the season with no losses, against all
odds. The Ottomans repel the invasion of Istanbul, but lose Salonika
to the invading Bulgarian forces. Whether they will be able to hold
it against rapidly advancing Greek forces in the region remains to be
seen.

Only Adam has retreats to order here (Ottoman A Salonika has no
retreats, and is destroyed). A Ancona and A Bologna may both only
retreat to Firenze - so one or both of them must disband. Adam -
please broadcast your retreats to the group as soon as possible
please.

FALL 1862 DEADLINE:

THURSDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 2010, 1700 EST. I will do my level best to
publish results as soon as possible after this deadline - please
remember to turn in prelims as soon as possible after this
announcement. They can always be changed later! Please keep CCing me
on the player negotiations also!

No surprises here, the big baddies ramp up the navies...

We do have a 2-way FN draw proposal to vote on with spring orders. To pass, it would require 5 yes votes. Joe with the most SC (14) would take the DCI.

France: (14)
Build F Marseilles
Build F Brest
Build A Paris

Norway: (12)
Build F Denmark

NEXT: Spring 11 due Wednesday 2/24, 3pm Central!

dc296 Round 1 Board 6 - Winter 1906 Results - z93blom   (Feb 19, 2010, 1:50 pm)
Blitzers,

The snow is coming down fast on us here in Sweden once again. We've got more than 10 inches already and it keeps on coming down.

The winter across Europe in 1906 seemed to be harsh in Munich and Norway as well, as the units stationed there had to disband to help the population shovel snow. The French army in Piedmont had to retreat to help out the populace in Marseille keep the snow off of the street. In Russia, however, the winter seems to have been unusually kind, as they have had time to both build up a Fleet in St. Petersburg as well as an Army in Warsaw. Austria also has had the time to recruit an Army in Trieste.

Next turn: Spring 1907 Movement

DC270: German Solo! - dipknight   (Feb 19, 2010, 8:37 am)
All,

I have not heard from Dan (Austria); either in response to the public vote for a German Solo or with order for the current season.  However, as Dan has now missed two deadlines, house rules are that I replace him.  Still, due to the fact that Germany can occupy two supplies this season . . . and I see no way a new Austria would be able to change the out come, I am reluctant to get a replacement just to end the game the way we all know it will end anyway.

Therefore, I have decided to remove Austria from the game and call it a unanimous vote for the German Solo.  Congratulations, Joe on the victory.

At this point it is of interest to hear how the game developed for each of you in End-of-Game statements.  If you are not familiar with this, please take the time to review the game (I have attached the dpy file for your use, or you can see the progression of the game by using the slide show feature on the DiplomaticCorp site).  Try to remember where key actions occurred during the game and explain why you did what you did . . . when you did it (I hope that makes sense).  Also, try to view things from the view of the other players who will be interested in why you stabbed them when you did . . . or why you did not follow a particular agreement or another.  If you were with this game from the beginning, remember that some action you took early in the game will be of interest to others as well; so, don't just look at the last few years but all the way back to the beginning . . . if possible.  If you are a replacement player, please explain the situation when you joined the game and what influenced you to play the way you did . . . or didn't.

Congratulations again to Joe on the German Solo victory and I look forward to reading your EOG Statements.

As you should probably be getting accustomed to, I made a few mistakes that are herein corrected:

1. Faeries actually ordered F Pry-Dry and that succeeded. It did not alter retreats or center ownership so there was no need to change anything pre-retreat. This was simply an order I missed.

2. I had never updated the .dpw file from the OTB retreat from Summer by the Trolls. Thus the last version shows an A that was disbanded still sitting in Dancing Lawn (in error).

3. Warren correctly pointed out that he should have retreat options instead of disbands for several units that were dislodged. Units that are dislodged on an NMR are considered to have HELD (as long as the country is not in CD). As such, I should have actually entered HOLD orders in the adjudication for all of units so that the program would not auto-disband them.

Warren HAS provided retreats though so we are not needing to delay. However, it DOES change some unit positions that you may have considered when submitting build/disband orders (some of you already have done this). Therefore PLEASE double-check that you are building as you wish in light of the changes.

Our retreats ended up being:
Troll A Tum-Imm
Troll F Hun-Khe
Troll A Cat-Sle
Undead F Tgr-SAI

Troll F Pap was in fact disbanded because no retreat was possible.

Our Winter adjustments are as follows:
Archers: Supp 0 (Blocked 0) Unit 0 Build 0
Barbarians: Supp 0 (Blocked 0) Unit 0 Build 0
Centaurs: Supp 0 (Blocked 0) Unit 0 Build 0
Dwarves: Supp 1 (Blocked 0) Unit 2 Remove 1

Pirates: Supp 9 (Blocked 0) Unit 9 Build 0
Rogues: Supp 18 (Blocked 0) Unit 13 Build 5

Trolls: Supp 19 (Blocked 0) Unit 22 Remove 3
Undead: Supp 8 (Blocked 0) Unit 9 Remove 1
Wizards: Supp 0 (Blocked 0) Unit 0 Build 0

Our Winter deadline will be set for Thursday Feb 18th at 6pm CST. I apologize for all of the confusion and need for corrections but I think we are straight now.

Thanks.

All apologies,
I waited as long as I could but I never got Troll orders so I really have no choice but to put them in NMR this turn.

We have one retreat needed as the Undead Fleet in To-Gai-Ru is dislodged. It can go to Walk of Clouds, All Saints Bay, Palmaris or OTB.

Please send that order in by Monday the 15th at 6pm CST. From there we will progress to Winter!

France looses Edi by holding, and not supporting from Liverpool, and
Russia's gains in Norway also gets abandoned. Two retreats, due with
orders at the usual time tomorrow. Since we are running slightly late,
I would appreciate if people could mark their orders FINAL , so I can
run it early-ish. It is also my unpleasant duty to announce that
Turkey has been eliminated following his loss of Smyrna. You played a
good game, Scott.

GM’s remarks:

No orders from Douglas; so, Turkey NMR’s this season.

We also have our first elimination in this game.  Where the Russian unit retreats to is really irrelevant as Russia will have no supplies after the retreat and the unit will be automatically eliminated.  Thanks Derek, for participating in Winter Blitz 2010!

dc291 fall 1906 results! - coryfucius   (Feb 18, 2010, 7:17 pm)
Fall 1906 brings us our first farewell of the game, as Turkey grabs the last remaining Italian center. Marc, thanks for playing, and better luck in round 2.

England sails into the Baltic Sea and Helgoland Bight, and advances an army to Denmark, but takes no direct action against Germany this turn, allowing Germany to hold on to his gain in Belgium. Austria's attempt to capture Munich is stymied by German defenses. Due to apparent miscommunications, Russia and Turkey miss out on the chance to occupy the undefended German capital; Russia does take over Marseilles. Meanwhile, all is quiet on the eastern front, with Russia regaining control of Sevastopol from Turkey and Austria taking Rumania from Russia.

No autumn retreats are due, so we move directly to winter 1906 adjustments as follows:
Austria: build 1
France: remove 2
Germany: build 1
Russia: build 1
Turkey: build 1 (banked from 1905)

The winter 1906 adjustments will be due Friday 2/19 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT. Thanks!

Cory

DC 285: Deadline alert - blueraider0 at gmail.com   (Feb 18, 2010, 7:13 pm)
Deadline in under 24 hours.  Still missing two sets of orders.

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."
"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."
