To all,
Harvey and I have already discussed our own dissatisfaction with the delays in this game. How does everyone else feel about it?

I do get confused by some of Charles' more enigmatic messages, and austria's leaving the game seemed to be because he wasn't playing as Charles wanted him too, in a communicative manner. I find non-communication unsocial, but not a reason for leaving a game by itself.I would like to get a move on though

I agree with the general sentiment. It appears Charles is struggling with time a little bit. I formally propose and vote yes for a DIAS. This way he can be free of the adjudication responsibility and we can find other games.

Everyone -
My two cents.
I have never resigned from a game, and have never gone absent.
As some of you know, a week or two ago I wrote Charles to say that I was on the verge of resigning from this game. That apparently prompted him to find a replacement for Sweden.
I am absolutely puzzled (and pissed) by Charles' newest message. This is a Winter Adjustment Phase. What the heck is there to adjudicate?
Please, talk to me about the merits of DIAS versus mass resignation from the game.
Regards to all from an angry Harvey

I told Charles 2 weeks ago that I wouldn't mind calling the game, but
I'd also be willing to stick with it. Whatever the "majority" voted
for.
Considering these last messages, it's clear that the majority is
voting for DIAS.
So I vote for DIAS as well. If the vote isn't unanimous though, I'll
keep playing.

Harvey,
I've never resigned from a game in my life. I've also never abandoned
a game, although I've missed a deadline or two.
I will vote for a DIAS, but I will not participate in a "mass
resignation" just to prove a point to a GM. I may never play another
game of Charles', but if he really doesn't have time for the game,
*he* should resign as GM or call the game a DIAS.
My two cents...

I agree with Mike's assessment. There's no need for us to resign - why spoil so many unblemished track records? It is within our rights as players to call for a DIAS. This vote seems to have passed, assuming our brand-new, yet-to-order Swedish leader doesn't object.

For me, I try hard and take pride in always getting my turns in and completing my games. "Abandoning" a game is not something I would be happy with, personally. I would be fine either with a DIAS, or the game being disbanded like it never happened, or if Charles' real-life situation enables a timely resolution of the game.
FWIW while certainly annoyed at the game I am not upset with Charles, per se: I'm sure it is a case of good intentions gone awry thanks to real-life. That said, I would like to move on.

FWIW, I was annoyed at the manner of austria's departure, and discussed with Dirk and Harvey my concern sat that stage, and was persuaded to carry on. From what I remember it seemed to me that Charles was imposing a style of play as a requirement on someone who was submitting moves, but not talking. I prefer conversations with other players, but don't see silence as areason for a player to be expelled. But I may be mis-remembering or misinterpreting. i am enjoying the actual play, and the variant and players. I'd happily try it again. I am reluctant to have the dias, because I'd love to see how the game might turn out, (will austria fall? will there be a mass stalemate in the centre?) but I wouldn't continue it with so many wishing to end it, so I wouldn't block the dias. I don't always understand Charles' messages, or share his reasoning

Guys,
as it so happens, our replacement failed to submit orders. Despite my repeated warnings to him.
Such is the risk of taking on a newbie to the site.
Since I wanted to give him a chance to explain himself, I did not detail in my earlier note to you the reason for this delay. I was all set yesterday to get the adjucation out. Hoping for a last-minute arrival of Sweden's orders.
Believe me, this frustrates me as much as it does you.
I was hoping to have this game back on a smooth track. While I admittedly dragged my feet in getting a replacement, I don't see how I can be faulted here. I am committed to running this game smoothly to its conclusion. But if you guys want to end this in another way, that's your choice.

Nigs, your annoyance is balanced by the annoyance of others at his gunboating.
My policy was clear on that count. In any case, it's one of those issues you'd rather not have come up. Naturally, I don't begrudge you being less enthralled about that step. Fair enough.

With regard to Nick, the original Austrian leader, my understanding is that Charles did not ask him to leave. There's little doubt that a player not talking in a game based on talking whose position is in the center of the map is doing the overall game a disservice. I was certainly not happy with it, and neither were at least some of the other players. When Charles inquired to Nick about his unusual lack of engagement, Nick replied that RL had overwhelmed him and he was sticking with the game only out of minimal commitment. Charles then offered to replace him, and Nick accepted, with very graceful apologies to all.
I'm glad to hear from Charles as to why there was no adjudication, which certainly isn't his fault. That said, after having revived myself for Gabriele, I'm not looking forward to another delay in a game seemingly headed for stalemate anyway. I would reluctantly prefer to end the game with a DIAS.

Charles,
Speaking only for myself, the frustration is a product of your not being forthcoming with the reasons-why there are delays. While on one hand it is thoughtful to protect a struggling player on the other it creates uncertainty and anxiety for the others as there are frequent starts and stops. If rationale around delays were accompanied by targeted restart times this would have made the troubles this game has had much less disruptive.
If you are willing and able to GM in your historically punctual manner and we have a full slate of dedicated players I would prefer to continue. However given that, apparently, the new Sweden has contacted literally no one it seems we are a ways from getting toward being on track.

Jorge's memory serves me better than mine. Nick was involved in a truly massive number of games and simply couldn't keep up.

Charles -
I echo Dirk's comments.

Charles,
Speaking only for myself, the frustration is a product of your not being forthcoming with the reasons-why there are delays.

Guys,
as it so happens, our replacement failed to submit orders.
