DC 285: Winter 299 BC builds: Delay - blueraider0 at gmail.com   (Jan 09, 2010, 7:42 am)
Hi!  Sorry for not doing this sooner.  We have an NMR.  Party responsible has been contacted and has until Monday at 5 EST to respond with builds, or else I'll find a replacement.  Sorry for the delay......

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."
"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

dc294 Deadline change - raybrucea at aol.com   (Jan 08, 2010, 11:30 am)

This is not an extension, it is a deadline revision after learning of a change in my availability. 2 PM will be the deadline for the game not just this upcoming turn.

I apologize if my prior explanation left you feeling betrayed and or uninformed, I will explain the change. My son is having knee surgery this afternoon, this means that I will have to drive him to school for at least 2 months. He finalized his schedule ( I hope) yesterday and it became clear that I could not reliably make an 8 AM deadline. 2 PM appears to be a time I can reliably get to the game every day, thus I changed the deadline time to increase the chance that I will not be late, or rushed, with adjudication.

Not that I don't appreciate her GM'ing, I certainly do, but the rules were made perfectly
clear. You mean to tell me that if one of us had "a variety of reasons" we would be granted
a delay? I don't think so.

Either we are playing no delays or extensions, or we are not. When I GM a game I hold myself
to the same standard I expect from the players.

All that being said, I do appreciate the notice that there will be a delay.

And, yes, I expect to be beset by players thinking I'm an ass. Been there, done that.

dc294 Deadline change - raybrucea at aol.com   (Jan 08, 2010, 11:29 am)
So Christine's credibility has dropped to 136%? Better than any of the rest of us in this game. And for those of you who don't already know, I have no weekend on line access, so the change in deadline will permit all of your last minute lies to reach me before adjudications since, under the old deadline, I would always have had to submit spring orders on Friday afternoon.

Hello from Germany.

As usual, something always happens at the beginning of the game. I’m on the road 100% of the time, but normally have access at night. (Think Up in the Air)

Of course, this week my wireless card decided to stop working, so I am getting a new laptop today. I should have it up and running over the weekend, and I shouldn’t have any problems for the rest of the week-end.

This is just a note to let you know why I haven’t responded to the press received as of today.

Also, I would like to make a suggestion. If everyone would put dc298 in your subject line, we can create a rule to put our press in the proper place.

Hope to talk to each shortly.

BULL!

Been there, done that.

dc294 Deadline change (Winter Blitz) notasb Jan 08, 10:20 am

So "There will be NO delays or extensions" is just a crock?

Or perhaps it only applies to the players? This is why absolutes
are so dangerous.

GM credibility just dropped 2 points.

Diplomats,

A new year begins, although with a player less on the board, as Jeff supports himself out of his only possible center, while Austria and England gobble up the other centers. Thank you Jeff for playing, and better luck in your next game. Meanwhile Italy hangs on by a thread (and some clever diplomacy?).

We have some builds that are needed:

Austria: Build 1

England: Build 3

France: Build 1

There is also a End Game proposal put forth. Please vote with the current turn. A unanimous vote is needed for success, otherwise it will fail. A failure to vote will automatically be a vote against the proposal.

* Draw between England, Austria and France (survival for Italy)

In my rush to get this out I accidentally misentered an order. John (France)'s Burgundy unit was not ordered into Marseilles. It was ordered into Gascony instead. This is entirely my fault and I apologize for it. If this changes any of the already received orders, please resubmit them.

Player list dc291 .ExternalClass {font-family:Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:10pt;font-family:arial,sans-serif;background-color:#ffffff;color:black;} .ExternalClass p {;} Hmmm, interesting, never thought of that as automatic disclosure, but as long as we're all doing it:

I am brand new to this club, and to the best of my recollection have never played with any of you. Feel free to remind me if my aging brain has forgotten any of you!

Good luck to all (but more to me!)

Marc

Hi Everyone,

I assume we are disclosing previous playing partners: I have played once each with all of Michael Thompson, Nathan Deily and Nigel Phillips.

Good luck (as long as you stab the other guy!)

Dirk

Hi folks, and welcome to the WinterBlitz 2010!

I am sad to say that you guys and girls have definitely drawn the short stick...you got stuck with ME to kick off your game. However, on the plus side, your regular (and quite sterling) GM Cory (note his email addresses above) will return shortly. He just asked that I fill a temporary time gap to get the game going!

Your Winter Blitz Round 1 game has been designated as dc291. Please make sure that Cory is on your "safe" list with your email box so that emails from him do not get caught in the spam filter!

As you may note, WB Rules preclude country assignments and those have been selected and are listed below. Please feel free to introduce yourselves to everyone and to start your diplomacy.

Since this is a tournament game, there is a common set of rules and season deadlines that all GMs are observing. This can be found at www.diplomaticcorp.com/winterblitz -- be sure to click the "Rules" option near the top of the main screen once you go to this page. In terms of timing, Cory will have to give a deadline for submitting orders; Tentatively we will set the spring 01 deadline for Monday Jan 11, 3pm Central US time / 2100 GMT!

An [u:343a349428]important[/u:343a349428] note: when submitting orders, make sure to include a cc: to orders-at-diplomaticcorp.com (orders-at-diplomaticcorp.com) (orders-at-diplomaticcorp.com (orders-at-diplomaticcorp.com)) -- this is for your protection in case your e-mail doesn't get through to me, or if Cory is not available and needs a moderator to run a turn. Also for the first couple turns - I - will be your wonderful and benevolent GM, so please send to both Cory and I until he's back.

Just a reminder of the schedule as laid out in the kickoff email:

* Spring deadlines are Mondays.

* Spring retreats are Tuesdays.

* Fall deadlines are Thursdays.

* Fall retreats AND Winter builds/disbands are Fridays. Builds CAN be conditional upon a retreat but they MUST be clear.

Don't forget to check out the game's page on the DC web site at www.diplomaticcorp.com/?game_id=dc291 - Cory will update it after each adjudication. He will also e-mail each adjudication to everyone, as well as a .dpy game file for use in the Realpolitik adjudication software.

Press is allowed and encouraged. For those that are new, press is simply generic messages that are made public as a part of the turn's results. Typically press is just generic silliness that may or may not pertain to the game. There is actually some good press in the DC274 game so you can read the different turns on that game to see some examples.

And now your lineups!

Russia: Michael Thompson, psychosis-at-sky.com (psychosis-at-sky.com)

Happy stabbing and good luck to all,

Mike
