Don't forget, orders for Fall 2266 are due tonight.

My e-mail and website were down all day yesterday, so if you sent in
orders and didn't get a "received" back, please resend. I don't think
anything was lost - just delayed - but better safe than sorry.

DC269 - Winter 1903 - Viper   (Oct 02, 2009, 8:42 am)
Hey everyone. As you may have noticed, there's been some talk of trying to speed up the game. Here is how I propose we do this: I will set the deadlines in the same fashion as before, but you are strongly encouraged to submit orders in advance of that deadline. Once I have orders from everyone, I will send out an email that will give everyone 24 hours to revise and then I will adjudicate, if I can. To speed up the game we do, of course, need everyone on board, because I need to get orders from everyone.

If you would like to play quicker games, keep your eye out for the Winter Blitz tournament which will likely start in January. A full year is played in one week and the gm waits for no one (if orders aren't in, they adjudicate anyway).

That being said, please get those orders in on time (or early would be even better).

The Winter adjustments:

Austria:
Remove F Ionian Sea

England:
Build F London

Germany:
Remove F English Channel
Remove A Ruhr

Italy:
Build F Naples

Russia:
Build F St. Petersburg (sc)

Next Deadline: Spring 1904 will be due Wednesday, October 7, noon CDT or 24 hours after I get orders from everyone.

DC270: Update - dipknight   (Oct 02, 2009, 8:30 am)
All,

Samuel (England) has finally made contact.  Seems he is having computer difficulties which included his hard drive crashing over the weekend.  So, I have decided to allow him to continue as England.

Please join me in welcoming Michael Thompson to the game replacing Tim for France (see below for email addresses).

I am, unfortunately, still trying to get Samuel straightened out regarding where we are in the game and get some retreat orders from him.  As soon as I get his retreat orders, we will be able to continue the game.

Best of luck in the next Season,

Darryl (GM)

All,

My apologies for the extended delay.  I had hoped to get Samuel back into the game.  However, I have been unsuccessful in getting a timely reply.

So, to get this game moving again, I have replaced Samuel.  Please welcome to the game Jack McHugh who will be taking over for England.  Jack will be leaving for vacation at the end of the week.  So, I wanted to get you all his email as quickly as possible so that you could chat with him before he leaves.  I am at work right now, but will get you all the results of the retreats (at long last) this evening immediately upon my return home.
Best of luck in the next Season,

Darryl (GM)

dc278 - Revenge of the diplomat - Game start - blom.fredrik at gmail.com   (Oct 02, 2009, 1:26 am)
Welcome all. This is the official start of dc278. I've gone ahead and assigned you countries as follows:

Turkey: Dan Huck (aefgirt7-at-yahoo-dot-com)
Italy: Daniel Stewart (dcstewart-at-mac-dot-com)
England: Dirk Knemeyer (dirk-at-knemeyer-dot-com)
Russia: Jeffrey Cole (jeffcole854-at-gmail-dot-com)
Germany: Jeffrey Clay (jmc66-at-mac-dot-com)
Austria: Michael Sims (mike-at-fuzzylogicllc-dot-net)
France: John Clarke (john-dot-c1arke-at-btinternet-dot-com)

I'll see if we can keep a weekly schedule, and make the adjudications be due on Wednesday evenings at 8:00pm (Sweden, GMT + 1). The first turn will not be due until the 14th of October, which should leave you plenty of time to talk amongst yourself. You can see the status of the game on Diplomatic Corps - including the due date, etc.

I cannot stress enough the importance of preliminary orders. Get them in and be sure that you will not receive an NMR. Also: make all the orders complete. I do not want to go hunting for orders from a previous order-set - only the latest received results will be adjudicated.

I will try to give you a 24-hour warning if I have not received any orders, but I make no guarantees.

Make my life easier:
I would appreciate if your subject line on mail to me look like the following:
dc278 - {Country} {Season} [revision]

Example:
dc278 - England Spring 1901 [1]

At the very least put the game number (dc27Cool in the subject line so that I will find the mail when I need it.

The forum will be set up soon. If there are any other questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Good luck, and happy diploming.

/Fredrik

Gentlemen,

We have had a disruption in the service provided for this game. It seems that our Italian player has overestimated his available time and has regretfully stepped down. While we are waiting for a replacement, feel free to send communications to each other and preliminary orders my way.

We will allow the new Italian a few days of communication before the next turn will be due, so that will push back the schedule a bit.

Expect more once I know who we have on board as a replacement.

Hey old-timer, welcome.

In case you dont remember, Italy is the green one. The goal of the game for Italy is to land an army in Edinburg. If you accomplish that, you win. Good luck.

Subject: DC 262: Angstskrik - Spring 829 Adjudication

Honored Kings of the Dark Ages -

The snow melts, the rivers thaw, and longboats once again ply the cold
waters of the north. Our Bretons continue to face a withering assault
of Gaels, Scots, and Anglo-Saxons, and this season's campaign results
in the the seizure of Mercia by the Scots. The Breton counterattack
sees Hamptonshire fall into their hands - now the task remains to hold
it for the fall. At sea, the Scots and Norse combine their strength
to force their way into the strategic North Sea against Danish
opposition. The Danes launch an effective counterattack in the Baltic
however, and surround the occupying Norse army of Svear.

Press: None. How about some poetic Viking war prose?

One retreat needed - Breton Army Mercia can retreat to Lindsey, or
OTB. Matt, if you will please blast that to the group as soon as
possible, I'd be most grateful. Presuming we see that in the next 24
hours, the Fall 829 Deadline will be Thursday October 8, at 1700 EDT.

DC 262: Angstskrik - Spring 829 Adjudication - Kenshi777   (Oct 01, 2009, 5:38 pm)

DC-272 Declaration of War - ndeily   (Oct 01, 2009, 12:57 pm)
While I eagerly join this "coalition of the willing", let me point out that our Florentine friend actually created the conditions under which this Turkish invasion became possible by turning on his "Ally" (me) as we worked to take out the Pope so swiftly, a feat which would not have been possible without the Napolitan forces.

Had that stab not occurred, I would have had the builds to prevent (or at least substantially minimize) the Turkish assault.

Having said all that, he *did* stab, and all that *did* happen, so all we can do at this point is turn to reverse it, and Naples is very much on board.

I think we all share the same opinion, you hve been very entertaining. Also you've be blitzed by three skillful players rather early in the game, I really enjoyed the exchanges we've had, and hope to be "dipping" with you again some time soon!

It ~has~ been a pleasure. I learned what you call "the hard ball" and not the "bocce" at this site.

My neice Lucrezia will host a dinner in honor of Alfonzo II, of the House of Trastámara (Naples).

Mangia, mangia!

I will now abdicate the throne of Saint Peter... No, no, don't try to stop me!

Seriously, I had a ball. Special thanks to Wolf for some hard tedious work, and helping the befuddled. I hope Wolf will develop another game, and permit me to participate.

Guys,
Quite an action-packed turn. Unless something drastic happens in the fall, we'll be saying goodbye to Pope Brutus. The heathens in central Italy have relieved His Holiness of his last two armies, leaving the Pope without the necessity of writing any orders next season. Venice chipped in, covering one of Kevin's centers.
In other news, France takes a beating and Turkey invades the boot, while losing his foothold further north. Venice looks to spread and secure his borders, while Florence tries to stretch out a bit. Naples seems caught in the middle, gaining and losing ground at the same time, and allies are pairing off in preparation of a violent mid-game.
Also, remember: keep things civil, guys. Nobody likes an angry board-mate.

Brutus,

I think we all share the same opinion, you hve been very entertaining. Also you've be blitzed by three skillful players rather early in the game, I really enjoyed the exchanges we've had, and hope to be "dipping" with you again some time soon!

Cheers,

Nick

Prinicpalities and Republics ~

It ~has~ been a pleasure. I learned what you call "the hard ball" and not the "bocce" at this site.

My neice Lucrezia will host a dinner in honor of Alfonzo II, of the House of Trastámara (Naples).

Mangia, mangia!

I will now abdicate the throne of Saint Peter... No, no, don't try to stop me!

Brutus
now just another ex-pope

Seriously, I had a ball. Special thanks to Wolf for some hard tedious work, and helping the befuddled. I hope Wolf will develop another game, and permit me to participate.

La prossima volta, non Singore Nice Guy.

Hallo zusammen!

After a rather desultory last year of campaigning, finally the hour of jubilation at the Wiener Hofburg has come. Congratulations to Jorge (aka Georg der Große) for a masterful performance in this first 1648 variant game! I trust few would disagree with this solo being very much deserved.

Alas, the game's conclusion coincided with another NMR, this time on account of Roger not getting his set of orders to me on time. Since the 18 supply centre threshold has been met, I appended a third map with a Polish army being retreated into Transylvania. This last map shows the final state of control.

As for the predictions made for the Keppler Award, several participants (Dirk, Nathan, Roger and Jorge) in this wee competition foretold France's elimination and Austria's victory, back in Spring 1652. Since Jorge also foretold Russia being the "runner-up" in terms of total SCs, I'm considering this a tie-breaker in his favour and his power preferences will receive preferential treatment in the next 1648 game I shall be GMing (much as Dirk, whom I promised the same for helping out). I aim for a good mix of 1648 veterans and newcomers for that playtest using the v3.0 map.

Now, I'm anxiously looking forward to your end-of-game reports, the epiloge to this game. Please send your EOG reports to me by Wednesday, 7 September 6 PM CET. I shall then publish all I've received, while adding my own observations as well. Perhaps firing up the .dpy file in Realpolitik and tabbing through the seasons might be a useful way of reviewing what has past.

I thank you guys for, but for a few hitches, contributing to a fairly smooth progression of the game. I very much enjoyed this front-seat experience and hope you did so as well.

Liebe Grüsse,

Charles

Dear Charles,

Thanks for being an outstanding GM and letting me play this excellent
variant. Your consistency and rigour in running a tight game were most
appreciated. It was a lot of fun, my various getting stabbed and poor
eventual outcome notwithstanding.

1648 090623: Fall 1654 Moves - charlesf   (Sep 30, 2009, 1:02 pm)

Dirk
