NNIGTFML - Officia Maps - packrat   (Aug 30, 2009, 1:08 pm)
Since I am going to be using RP and there are all these questions around the
map - how about just sending the dpy file so we can see if we can open it?

Guys pls ignore the little man behind the curtain, as the moves indicated have nothing to do w the map we are actually playing. The version we are playing is the version that is on the diplomaticcorp site. It is in the attached maps. The dipwiki version has two different maps, neither of which is the current map. One of them differs around Con-Prn, the other differs around the Pacific Ocean . But use what is posted here, and the RP file from the website. Con is not adjacent to Prn in this version. I’m sure the wiki will get updated when he gets around to it.

(or, NNIGTFML for short) Be warned, this should not be confused w other titles that happen to share the same popular acronym, like Ned Niederhosen is Going to Frequent More Lavatories or the documentary Neutered Newts in Gory Thriller Films Making Love.

This one is South American Supremacy. Which of course begs the question in our south-of-the-border stadium – which one of you will reign supreme? As far as preferences went, you all suck. What good does it do to turn in prefs, if you’re all going to pick the same flipping thing? I mean really. So some of you got what you wanted, others got a bit hosed – but everyone will still have fun I’m sure.

Now our lineup!
We have an American group stepping up to the plate this game, in fact a pretty New England bunch if you do ask me with 6 of our 8 players shouting out from that strip between Baltimore and Maine.

Jason Argentina githraine(at)yahoo.com (githraine(at)yahoo.com)
Scott Bolivia brn2dip(at)yahoo.com (brn2dip(at)yahoo.com)
Jim Brazil jchdipaccount(at)gmail.com (jchdipaccount(at)gmail.com)
Greg Chile gregory_olson(at)brown.edu (gregory_olson(at)brown.edu)

Jack Peru jwmchughjr(at)gmail.com (jwmchughjr(at)gmail.com)
Andy Venezuela cloudhurler77(at)yahoo.com (cloudhurler77(at)yahoo.com)

Now to a little matter of the first deadline: Friday Sep 4, 6pm Central / 2300 GMT. Keep in mind the following Monday is Labor Day, so if a week like this is too short for anyone for the first turn, let me know.

Next thing - PRELIMS. Use them! ‘Nuff said.

I think that’s it! Oh wait did I mention prelims? If not, use them! ‘Nuff said.

Enjoy,

Just to clarify, Mike is running the game, and anything he says goes.  If by some instance of stupidity on my part I inadvertently contradict him, as the GM, whatever Mike says is correct and I will promptly shut up.  I am only here to assist as requested with the variant, and as a grateful observer.

So - it sounds like I have old info posted on the DipWiki by accident...I'll have to address that.  Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Jack nailed my dilemma - I'm looking at the DipWiki version, which matches Ben's succeed/fail list. I'm also looking at the "official" map, directly from Ben's website (which you suggested, Hester!), which does not match.

So I have to agree, Ben is talking about a different version then we are using

That's because I'm an idiot.  As mentioned in the other message, Mike is right, and I'm wrong.  My bad.  I'm on board with the Sims train now, and will refrain from any further commentary.  Meant to be helpful, but only added to the confusion - sorry!

Hi Folks,

Unfortunately, the deadline is passed and I have no orders from Turkey. Although he's already used his 24h grace period, I don't think it's really worth adjudicating without him.

As such, I'm using my discretion to give an extra 24 hours. This isn't a free pass, though: although Turkey's orders will be adjudicated as normal, he'll still record an NMR.

I hope this sounds fair to all.

Cheers,

Matthew

DC269 - Fall 1902 - Viper   (Aug 30, 2009, 12:45 am)
Now wasn't that an interesting turn? Everything from the creation of a very multicultural Mediterranean Sea to one of our players trying to order around someone else's unit (by accident?). After all is said and done we have a whopping three retreats needed. Please see the end of the adjudication for those details.

Your moves...

Austria:
A Budapest - Serbia (*dislodged*)
A Vienna Holds
A Serbia - Greece (*fails*)
F Adriatic Sea - Ionian Sea
F Albania Supports A Serbia - Greece

England:
F Edinburgh - North Sea (*fails*)
F Helgoland Bight - Holland
F Belgium Supports F Helgoland Bight - Holland
A Ruhr - Munich

France:
A Burgundy Supports A Ruhr - Munich
A Paris Supports A Burgundy
F Gulf of Lyons - Tyrrhenian Sea
A Piedmont Holds (*invalid*)
F Mid-Atlantic Ocean - North Atlantic Ocean

Germany:
F Denmark - North Sea
A Holland - Kiel (*dislodged*)
A Kiel - Berlin (*bounce*)
A Bohemia - Vienna (*fails*)

Italy:
A Piedmont - Tuscany
A Munich - Berlin (*dislodged*)
A Tyrolia Supports A Vienna
F Ionian Sea - Eastern Mediterranean Sea

Russia:
F Sweden Supports F Norway
F Norway Supports F Denmark - North Sea
A Warsaw - Galicia
A Galicia - Budapest
A Rumania Supports A Galicia - Budapest
F Black Sea Supports A Rumania

Turkey:
A Greece Holds
A Bulgaria Supports A Greece
F Aegean Sea Supports A Bulgaria
F Constantinople - Smyrna

Retreats:
Austria's A Budapest may retreat to Trieste or OTB
Germany's A Holland may retreat to Ruhr or OTB
Italy's A Munich may retreat to Silesia or OTB

Once again, I will assume the retreats, but will need for all of you to confirm those or the units will be taken off the board.

Next Deadline:
Autumn 1902 retreats are due on Tuesday, September 1, at noon CDT. If you're looking ahead, the Winter 1902 adjustments will be due on Thursday.

NNIGTFML - Mountains & Rivers - Kenshi777   (Aug 29, 2009, 10:56 pm)
I always find it useful to offer up some case study moves - like SUCCEEDS / FAILS sets, just to make this all clear:

MOUNTAIN:

A San - Men SUCCEEDS
A Val - Men FAILS (no pass)
A Ara- Pat SUCCEEDS
F Ara - Pat FAILS (only armies can use passes)
A Pot - Ant SUCCEEDS
A Sal - Ant FAILS (no pass)

RIVER:
F SaF - Crt SUCCEEDS
F CrtS A Mis - SaF SUCCEEDS
F BdN - Par SUCCEEDS
F BdN - Man FAILS (fleets cannot move multiple spaces upriver in one turn)
F Con - Prn SUCCEEDS
F SaF Convoys A Crt - BAs FAILS (fleets on rivers cannot convoy)
F Con - Pan FAILS (the Parana river stops at Con and Prn)
F MaG - Gpe FAILS (the (navigable portion) of the Amazon stops at Ama and MaG)

Hope that was helpful -
B.

There are two terrain features to note in this variant, the Rivers and Mountains.

Rivers - quite simple actually, land zones that have a river by them are treated as if they have canals.  That is, fleets can move from space to space along the river.  Being a coastal zone, fleets in such a space cannot convoy, much like a fleet in Kiel (in standard) cannot convoy.

Mountains - along the edge of Chile and Peru, mountains block movement (actually, block adjacency - including supporting across them) except for the designated mountain passes indicated on the map.

If anyone has a question about how these features work, do speak up… If you later try to make up some excuse about how you didn’t know, that will appropriately be met with “not now, I’ve got to feed my llama”.

Subject: NNIGTFML - Game Start!

That’s right, it’s time to begin our little game, “Not now, I’ve got to feed my llama!”

NNIGTFML - Mountains & Rivers - FuzzyLogic   (Aug 29, 2009, 10:43 pm)

That’s right, it’s time to begin our little game, “Not now, I’ve got to feed my llama!”

NNIGTFML - Mountains & Rivers (dc273) Kenshi777 Aug 29, 10:56 pm
I always find it useful to offer up some case study moves - like SUCCEEDS / FAILS sets, just to make this all clear:

MOUNTAIN:

A San - Men SUCCEEDS
A Val - Men FAILS (no pass)
A Ara- Pat SUCCEEDS
F Ara - Pat FAILS (only armies can use passes)
A Pot - Ant SUCCEEDS
A Sal - Ant FAILS (no pass)

RIVER:
F SaF - Crt SUCCEEDS
F CrtS A Mis - SaF SUCCEEDS
F BdN - Par SUCCEEDS
F BdN - Man FAILS (fleets cannot move multiple spaces upriver in one turn)
F Con - Prn SUCCEEDS
F SaF Convoys A Crt - BAs FAILS (fleets on rivers cannot convoy)
F Con - Pan FAILS (the Parana river stops at Con and Prn)
F MaG - Gpe FAILS (the (navigable portion) of the Amazon stops at Ama and MaG)

Hope that was helpful -
B.

Howdy players -

Quickie post for now just to keep the game flowing.  I don't have a
map for you right now, and I'm not setting a new Spring 828 deadline
yet, but I wanted to give you all these results so you wouldn't have
to sit on hold until I get back on Sunday.  I will kick out a map and
update the DC site then, and there will be a normal Thursday deadline
then most likely, if no one objects.
And with that, I'm off to swim...

Swedes - Remove F Bal, A Sve
Bretons - Remove A Dyf
Gaels - Remove F Heb
Danes - Build F Jel WC, F Rib WC, A Ros
Scots - Build F For
Norse - Build F Hor
Anglo-Saxons - No Change

And to answer a question, Dark Ages victory condition is 20 SCs, per
the Dip Wiki (simple majority).  I encourage all of you to check out
the Dip Wiki for the variant if you haven't already (on the
diplomaticcorp.com web site)

An interesting season - battles rage all over the map, yet not a single
retreat needed.  The big winners this year are the Danes, who pick up an
impressive *three* SCs, courtesy of their stab of the Anglo-Saxons and deep
strike into Swedish territory.  Elsewhere, the Gaels suffer the loss of
Munster to the Scots, who manage to hold their plunder with Anglo-Saxon
aid.  The Gaels and Scots fight an epic but inconclusive battle in Dal
Riada, while Norse fleets appear off Scottish shores.  The Bretons press
far
behind Anglo-Saxon lines, but are still faced with a disband this winter.

We'll have a slightly abnormal deadline for Winter 827 on Tuesday 25 August
2009, 1700 EDT - because I'm taking a small vacation next week from Wed -
Sun.  Then we'll have a long spring - first Thursday in September will be

This game will follow in my typical 4-season Diplomacy fashion, that is with autumn retreats and winter builds combined into one season to cut back on the minor turns.  You can always submit your build orders conditional upon the autumn retreat ordrers, if that affects what you would build.  See my house rules online for further info.  Actually, you should read them even if further info isn't really your bag of chips, or even if you dont care for info much at all.  No, even if it would make you grossly ill, you should still read the house rules.  They're that good.  Trust me.

For those of you got on the wrong train, you have showed up for South American Supremacy - As the train has now left the station, this is where you're going whether you like it or not - but how could you not?  With a variant created by the legendary Ben Hester, you would have the wisdom of a llama to not want to play in this one.

So - without delaying this any further than I already have, let's get a confirmation from all 8 players, including if you like a preference list of countries.  Even if you dont have a preference, you should still reply to me to confirm you're interested, and indicate no preference.

With this crowd, I'm not anticipating we'll have any long-term issues with NMRs.  I'll be running this game in my usual way, that is with processing NMR's as they fall.

Fits on mine?  For that matter, so does Dark Ages?  I must have mine set at a high resolution or something...I do get this complaint often...

I listened though - Balkans1860 is my most recent creation, and that one at least seems to fit on everyone's screen...SAS was designed back in 2001.

You have to download and install it.

- Go to www.diplomaticcorp.com
- Click on variants
- Scroll down to SAS
- There is a small RP link to the right of it - click that
- This should pop up a "Run or Save" dialog - Choose Save.  Or, your i.e. may throw up one of the yellow i.e. protection bars (bill g always lookin out for us) so you'll have to click that and say download file, then pick save from the popup.
- Save this file on your Desktop
Now go unzip it...
Dont have Winzip?  Ok have to get that first, from www.sims-family.net/library/winzip81.exe
- Once unzipped, you should have a folder (note, a regular folder - not a zip).
- Cut that folder, and pasted it into your c:\program files\realpolitik\variants folder, next to all the other variants you see there.

- Next time you start RP, the new variant should be an option.

Enjoy!
-mike

NNIGTFML - Game Start! - FuzzyLogic   (Aug 29, 2009, 8:02 pm)
That’s right, it’s time to begin our little game, “Not now, I’ve got to feed my llama!”

Drew Colombia drew3739o(at)yahoo.com (drew3739o(at)yahoo.com)
Alan Paraguay alley_cat_1990(at)hotmail.com (alley_cat_1990(at)hotmail.com)
Jack Peru jwmchughjr(at)gmail.com (jwmchughjr(at)gmail.com)
Andy Venezuela cloudhurler77(at)yahoo.com (cloudhurler77(at)yahoo.com)

Now to a little matter of the first deadline: Friday Sep 4, 6pm Central / 2300 GMT. Keep in mind the following Monday is Labor Day, so if a week like this is too short for anyone for the first turn, let me know.

Next thing - PRELIMS. Use them! ‘Nuff said.

I think that’s it! Oh wait did I mention prelims? If not, use them! ‘Nuff said.

Enjoy,

DC242: 10h for Fall 1911 - Rocketship   (Aug 29, 2009, 3:28 pm)

from one of you.

Cheers,

Hi Folks,

Unfortunately, the deadline is passed and I have no orders from
Turkey. Although he's already used his 24h grace period, I don't
think it's really worth adjudicating without him.

As such, I'm using my discretion to give an extra 24 hours. This
isn't a free pass, though: although Turkey's orders will be
adjudicated as normal, he'll still record an NMR.

I hope this sounds fair to all.

Cheers,

Matthew
