I don't seem to have SAS in the variant list for RP.

DC 262: Angstskrik - Winter 827 Quickie Results - packrat   (Aug 27, 2009, 12:01 pm)
I'm not sure how you guys are with RP so I went ahead and updated the map. If you want to view
past seasons enter <shift-tab>, when you want to go forward just enter <tab>. You can go back
as far as you want, but you cannot go forward past the last adjudicated turn.

Howdy players -

Quickie post for now just to keep the game flowing. I don't have a
map for you right now, and I'm not setting a new Spring 828 deadline
yet, but I wanted to give you all these results so you wouldn't have
to sit on hold until I get back on Sunday. I will kick out a map and
update the DC site then, and there will be a normal Thursday deadline
then most likely, if no one objects.
And with that, I'm off to swim...

Swedes - Remove F Bal, A Sve
Bretons - Remove A Dyf
Gaels - Remove F Heb
Danes - Build F Jel WC, F Rib WC, A Ros
Scots - Build F For
Norse - Build F Hor
Anglo-Saxons - No Change

And to answer a question, Dark Ages victory condition is 20 SCs, per
the Dip Wiki (simple majority). I encourage all of you to check out
the Dip Wiki for the variant if you haven't already (on the
diplomaticcorp.com web site)

An interesting season - battles rage all over the map, yet not a single
retreat needed. The big winners this year are the Danes, who pick up an
impressive *three* SCs, courtesy of their stab of the Anglo-Saxons and deep
strike into Swedish territory. Elsewhere, the Gaels suffer the loss of
Munster to the Scots, who manage to hold their plunder with Anglo-Saxon
aid. The Gaels and Scots fight an epic but inconclusive battle in Dal
Riada, while Norse fleets appear off Scottish shores. The Bretons press
far
behind Anglo-Saxon lines, but are still faced with a disband this winter.

We'll have a slightly abnormal deadline for Winter 827 on Tuesday 25 August

as far as you want, but you cannot go forward past the last adjudicated turn.

Subject: DC 262: Angstskrik - Winter 827 Quickie Results

[quote:15c55bb8a7]Honored Kings of the Dark Ages -

2009, 1700 EDT - because I'm taking a small vacation next week from Wed -
Sun.  Then we'll have a long spring - first Thursday in September will be
the Spring 828 deadline.  Winter adjustments are at the bottom of this

Not now, I've got to feed my llama! - FuzzyLogic   (Aug 27, 2009, 10:29 am)
Greetings! And welcome to this, the two-hundred and seventy-third game of diplomaticcorp diplomacy:

"Not now, I've got to feed my llama!"

We've got a lineup here with some of the best in the hobby - including some new hopefuls, some dc regulars, some old-school vets, and some dinosaurs that have been around forever.

This game will follow in my typical 4-season Diplomacy fashion, that is with autumn retreats and winter builds combined into one season to cut back on the minor turns. You can always submit your build orders conditional upon the autumn retreat ordrers, if that affects what you would build. See my house rules online for further info. Actually, you should read them even if further info isn't really your bag of chips, or even if you dont care for info much at all. No, even if it would make you grossly ill, you should still read the house rules. They're that good. Trust me.

For those of you got on the wrong train, you have showed up for South American Supremacy - As the train has now left the station, this is where you're going whether you like it or not - but how could you not? With a variant created by the legendary Ben Hester, you would have the wisdom of a llama to not want to play in this one.

So - without delaying this any further than I already have, let's get a confirmation from all 8 players, including if you like a preference list of countries. Even if you dont have a preference, you should still reply to me to confirm you're interested, and indicate no preference.

With this crowd, I'm not anticipating we'll have any long-term issues with NMRs. I'll be running this game in my usual way, that is with processing NMR's as they fall.

Enjoy!

I don't seem to have SAS in the variant list for RP.
Not now, I've got to feed my llama! (dc273) FuzzyLogic Aug 27, 12:52 pm
You have to download and install it.

- Go to www.diplomaticcorp.com
- Click on variants
- Scroll down to SAS
- There is a small RP link to the right of it - click that
- This should pop up a "Run or Save" dialog - Choose Save. Or, your i.e. may throw up one of the yellow i.e. protection bars (bill g always lookin out for us) so you'll have to click that and say download file, then pick save from the popup.
- Save this file on your Desktop
Now go unzip it...
Dont have Winzip? Ok have to get that first, from www.sims-family.net/library/winzip81.exe
- Once unzipped, you should have a folder (note, a regular folder - not a zip).
- Cut that folder, and pasted it into your c:\program files\realpolitik\variants folder, next to all the other variants you see there.

- Next time you start RP, the new variant should be an option.

When are you going to make a variant that FITS ON THE SCREEN???????

The way you play Diplomacy you would think that is *exactly* what you were using.

Fits on mine?  For that matter, so does Dark Ages?  I must have mine set at a high resolution or something...I do get this complaint often...

I listened though - Balkans1860 is my most recent creation, and that one at least seems to fit on everyone's screen...SAS was designed back in 2001.

Sorry!

I would be glad to do that, but would love it even more if another player decided to.  Variant designers offer the worst commentary on their own variants - they tend to get tunnel vision from their first impressions during the design process, and miss things that fresh sets of eyes catch.

I would and I'm sure Doug would appreciate anything you have to say about this variant or any other.you've designed. If you'd like to write about anything else feel free as we're always looking for articles. If you need any help or someone to bounce article ideas off off just let me or Doug know.

All of this goes for the rest of you as well..

DC271 Cimarra - Friendly GM reminder - garry.bledsoe   (Aug 27, 2009, 9:09 am)
All,
I know we are still a ways out to the deadline. I just wanted to send a reminder that while we have until next week, provisionals are ALWAYS a good idea. To date, I have one set. I may not have been clear in my first note...for the newbies - you CAN submit multiple sets of orders and I will only use the last one. A good method to use to label them is as follows:

DC271 Cimarra: S01 English Orders [1]

Each subsequent set would simply increase the number in [] to indicate a more recent version.

So there you have it! A friendly GM reminder.

.ExternalClass .EC_hmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.EC_hmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} Dave/Andy/Nick/Kent/Ian/Darryl/Jim,

Let's get started! Sorry for the delay from Friday. We are ready to go and our line-up is as follows:

Austria - Nick Netscher - nicknetscher(at)gmail.com
England - Jim Hoyes - jchdipaccount(at)gmail.com
France - Kent Welch - kentrwelch(at)gmail.com
Germany - Darryl Good - dipknight(at)gmail.com
Italy - Dave Wilkinson - fletch15(at)bellsouth.net
Russia - Ian Bond - iangb_2000(at)yahoo.co.uk
Turkey - Andy Waxtel - awaxtel(at)gmail.com

We have a player [Darryl] who will be out of town with limited email access [today through the 28th] so we are going to have a bit longer period until our first deadline. Let's set the deadline for Spring 1901 at Thursday Sept 3rd at 6pm CST.

I encourage provisionals so feel free to send them in ahead of time. I will always confirm orders so if for some reason you do not get a confirmation, check with me. It is probably good to also be in the habit of sending a copy to orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com just to be covered.

Attached is our file for the game and a map. The .dpy file is the Real Politik file if you want to play with it.

That should cover us. Please feel free to send in any questions.

DC250 My Army Is Bigger!! - Fall 1907 - GERMAN SOL... - former.trout   (Aug 27, 2009, 12:29 am)
Heya folks,

The Kaiser proves that his army truly is bigger, as he cruises to a 20 center victory in Fall 1907.  A hearty congratulations to John for powering to the solo win, and a big pat on the back to Shawn, Thor, Manolis and Christian for managing to eke out survivals.  Thank you to all of you players for participating in such a succesful game.  =)

There was one retreat from France as a result of the Fall turn, but with Germany having won the game I simply moved it to the West Med.  Also - I bent the house rules a little and ran with an NMR from Thor in this last round.  The Turkish moves would have had no impact on the outcome in France, and with my having given two deadline reminders I wasn't going to delay the game end past tonight.  (Thor, if you're upset about this then please just let me know and we'll hash it out...)

Above all, I greatly enjoyed running this game for you guys.  I greatly encourage all of you to write and send out end-of game (EOG) statements so that people have an idea of your view of how things went.  Hope you all had as much fun as I did.

Once again, congratulations to John for his excellent solo effort.  See you all in the next game!

Cheers!

DC226 before Spring Press! - hapolley   (Aug 26, 2009, 6:19 pm)
Willie,
Our moment of greatest unease has now passed. We thank you for upholding your word to us. We are dispatching the main thrust of our navies to the Mediterranean, where we believe we still possess potential for a breakthrough.
The Turk has overextended into Italy. We believe he cannot maintain both Vienna and Venice. It is only a matter of time and strategem. And once the first city falls, all the others will follow.
With Appreciation and Friendship,

1648 090623: A new Sweden! - charlesf   (Aug 26, 2009, 8:43 am)
Hi guys,

Wayne asked me to find a permanent replacement for him rather than merely one covering his upcoming holiday given that he's not fond of the variant. Fortunately, one of our observers, Harvey Morris, stepped up as Wayne's successor. He deserves our thanks for making this a painless transition. Hm, this all reminds me of Queen Christine of Sweden abdicating for the sake of converting for Catholicism, putting Charles X, the warrior-king, on Sweden's throne.

So, players, as of now, Sweden's foreign policy is entirely in Harvey's hands and you ought to write him rather than Wayne.

Harvey, you can find all the relevant maps (abbreviations etc) by checking out 1648's dipwiki entry. Google dipwiki and 1648 and you'll find the said page.

While still on holiday, don't expect me confirming the receipt of orders or giving you advance warnings.

I have no problem with Thursday. I've emailed a couple of players to let them know that my computer finally gave up the ghost on sunday, but it doesn't affect any of the games I am in since I have sent prelims in. Incidentally, my net access is probably better during the week so if we could avoid adjudications during the weekend that would be preferable.

Folks,
How's the negotiating going? Seems to me the communication is stellar, else I have a group of players who all understand the value of prelims. I already have orders from all eight of you. I know I set the deadline for the 1st of September, but that's still a full week away. If any of you has an objection to adjudicating Wednesday instead (6 days early), please let me know before then. If I don't hear any votes against by Wednesday at 2pm EDT, I'll adjudicate then.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND, if you'd like more time to negotiate, or if you simply don't like to feel rushed, I don't mind waiting until the official deadline in the least. I just figured that, since I have something from everyone, I may as well try to get this game jump started.

Let me know if you object,

DC267 Spring 2012 Results - MattTheLesser   (Aug 26, 2009, 1:40 am)
There seem to have been some miscommunication this season as multiple
supports were voided due to the order supported not being given. But is
this the result of a lack of communication or some particularly cunning
diplomacy? Who knows?! As for orders that did succeed we have
interesting developments in both the Atlantic and Pacific. In the
former, Canada and Denmark do a bit of a switcheroo as Denmark sails
into the Labrador Sea on the rudder of a Canadian fleet entering the
Denmark Strait. And in the latter, the USA is put on the ropes as
Russia is able to convoy an army to Anchorage, possibly a bit of revenge
for the American fleet that still sits in the Russian home port of Magadan.

Despite all the action we have no retreats, so we progress directly to
Summer 2012, which will be due this coming Monday, August 31, at 9 pm
eastern. Don't forget the territories melting for the summer, which are
listed below the adjudication!

Folks,
I just heard from Thomas, who's still with us. He's moving on short notice, which is why he missed the deadline. He'll be back in the swing of things by the next major season, so we'll just go on with the game as-is.
I've already received one set of builds, so as soon as I get the second, we'll move on.

Josh, if you are still out there, this is your one and only warning.  If I do not hear from you in the next 24 hours, I will assume you have abandoned the position and immediately begin seeking a replacement.  Also, you may want to consider posting Preliminary Orders.  According to the house rules, should you be late again, you will be removed without any further warnings.

Preliminary or Provisional Orders (whatever you are use to calling them) is a good idea for everyone.  I personally always post a preliminary set of orders with my GM in the games I play.  However, I may later change them if the negotiations go a different direction that I expected.  So, I not only advocate of their use, but use them myself as well.

Anyway, my apologies to all for the long delay in this Winter Build/Disband season (I hope you all have put it to good use).  But, it seems we are going to be delayed for a little while longer.

DC270: Replacement Turkey Needed - dipknight   (Aug 25, 2009, 6:01 pm)
All,

It seems our Sultan has gotten swallowed in the sands.  I have heard nothing from him or any of you that he is still around.  I hope this was simply an oversight and that he is well.  However, in accordance with the House Rules, I will have this game re-listed and seek a replacement player for Turkey.

My apologies, once again to all of you for the delay.  I will post the build results and we will get started with the Spring 1902 season when a replacement player has been found.

Thanks,
     Darryl (GM)

All,

*sigh* It seems that we have lost Josh (Turkey).  His orders are the outstanding set of orders that we have all been waiting on.  Has anyone heard from Josh?

Thanks,
     Darryl (GM)

My apologies, but occasionally, when you try to "shorten" a deadline, there are those that went away with the original deadline in mind and do not come back until that deadline is due.

There are two outstanding sets of orders and I have sent the countries that I am missing orders from personal requests for orders.  So, I will post the Build/Disband Orders as soon as I receive builds those builds.  Or . . . I will begin looking for replacements shortly after the original deadline of Monday, August 24, 2009, 24:00 hrs GMT.

Best of Luck,

I have received new build orders from Austria; seems  Dan isn't as isolated as he assumed he would be.

I do not want to assume everyone is getting these messages over the weekend.  Still, I already have the majority of your Build orders.  Therefore, I would like to change the Deadline for the Winter Builds to Tuesday (8/1Cool by 24:00 pm GMT.  If anyone has a problem with this please let me know.

Thanks,

I need an adjustment order from Indonesia. If Friday is too earl for the Spring deadline, let me know. Otherwise, it will still stand.
