Hey folks,

I now have orders from all of you, but I'm in Puerto Rico and a little bit (actually a lot a bit) drunk, so I'll try to adjudicate tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay.

Howdy all,

It's two armies for Germany as he unleashes the new recruits in Munich and Kiel.  Other than that, there isn't much to report in the Winter of 05...  What can I say?

DC-227 Fall 1921 Adjudication - TheWhiteWolf   (Jul 13, 2009, 11:12 pm)
Folks,
Sorry this is out so late in the evening, it's been a busy day away from the house.
Despite Civil Disorder in Lisbon, the French exile government in Portugal (or what's left of it) remains in power, and the last French fleet sits at anchor in the Gulf of Lyons, unmolested by its neighbors. Meanwhile, further east, Italy loses more ground to its large, aggressive neighbors, losing two fleets this season alone.
Turkey seems to be friendly with both Germany and England, while the latter two duke it out on their own. Quite an interesting "love triangle," with only lonely Italy left swinging in the breeze. A special thanks to Mark for sticking with us while he gets beat up. ;o)

dc238 - Game End!! (It was...) - bobbarkerfan1   (Jul 13, 2009, 10:42 pm)
Hey Mike,

I really apprieciate you trying to fill in for Bruce in the end. It was fine up until France suddenly dropped out without any notice. I hope she is ok and nothing happened to her. But she was my one main ally and when she dropped out I was basically just waiting to get taken out.

I would really like to play another game with the same people who stuck it out in the end, and you too Mike. I love meeting new people and playing diplomacy, and diplomatticorp is such a great community of people.

As an EGS, I would have to predict Gareth winning the game, as he was already about to take me out and Russia as well. All in all, it would have been a really good game minus the few dropouts and delays.

Thanks Bruce, very good job GMing this rough game, not sure if you are a new GM or whatever. And thanks to Jorge, Jeremiah, Steve, Gareth, and Trout for staying in the game.

Hope to play with you all again!

Joey

Subject: dc238 - Game End!! (It was...)

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

Whatever! Diplomacy is always fun, and this game wasn’t half bad. Met with some challenges admitted, but we all got thru it, and in the end, I have to say the remaining 5 were all a very active bunch. Given how much everyone was wanting to jump up and say something about getting some closure to this game, I kinda wouldn’t have minded to see how it would have played out!

But that will have to be saved for another day, another game… for all 5 remaining players have voted for a 5-way DIAS!

Many thanks to all of you. Committed play makes for great challenging games, and as a direct result of this game, I’ve added those who stuck it out to the end, to my own personal list of players-to-invite to special invite-only games that come up on rare occasion.

If you haven’t already, I’d suggest all of you who are interested in the hobby, to give GM’ing a try. It will take your game to the next level, as you learn a lot from running games that you don’t see as a player. If you’d like to run a game, let me know! As a club we need to always grow our talent base, both as players and GMs.

And now - the final stats!

Karl and Josh unfortunately had early game abandons.
(Thanks again to Trout and Jorge for covering)
Master Trout managed an elimination (is that “managing” something?)
And Jorge, Jeremiah, Joey, Steve, and Gareth get the 5-way Draw.

Bruce, I look forward to you giving GM’ing another go. Hope you don’t mind me putting a bow on this one for ya.

I think that’s about it! Let’s see, the game played out over 176 days, or about half a year.

EGS (End-Game-Statements) are always welcome and encouraged, to reflect back on what happened, or where the game might have gone.

Enjoy!
-mike

Light Brigade inductee! - FuzzyLogic   (Jul 13, 2009, 8:14 pm)
With a good dousing in WWIV as the mega-power Sichuan (actually a major undertaking), welcome Max Victory to the ranks of the Light Brigade!

**************************************************

Hey all,

I know this came up last year sometime, but it’s time to revisit this again. A few things I was thinking of…

A new inductee can only enter the Light Brigade via a trial of taking on a replacement position. This way our newest entrants will always get the next game.

There is now an indicator on the My Profile page, which we can expand to where you can click the link and it’ll take you to a list of the LB members and how many games they’ve covered.

Then of course we need some kick-ass graphics to make such a page work.

Ideas anyone?

Well that record didn’t last long!

Just as soon as Illinois rips out the whopping 10-build turn, Turks around the world can be heard singing…
Ooh, Eee, Ooh Aah Aah, Ting Tang, Walla-Walla Bing Bang as they hammer out an 11-build record-setting turn of their own!

(Of course still not shabby, IL manages another 8 - impressive in its own rite, but surely overshadowed by these phenomenal numbers)

**************************************************

New England - All: Now announcing the reunification of the United States under the leadership of the great city of Chicago! the leaders of New England will gladly take up the hard task of governing the restive isles of Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Bermuda, and the Azores.

Seriously, its way too cold up here!

**************************************************

(GM - New England: If you think IL looks great now, wait till you see them balance a budget)

There are lots of RETREATS, and lots of BUILDS:

RETREATS:

Nigeia A Eritrea(eri) can retreat to Ethiopia(eth).
SouthAfrica A Mali(mal) can retreat to Ivory Coast(ivo).
UnitedStates F Guantanamo(gno) can retreat to Cienfuegos(cie).
Catholica F North Atlantic Ocean(nat) can retreat to Irish Sea(iri) or Ireland(ire).
UnitedKingdom F Norway(nwy) can retreat to Murmansk(mur).
California A Arizona(arz) can retreat to Los Angeles(la).
California F San Francisco(sf) can retreat to Los Angeles(la).

I’m inclined to auto-retreat these since they all pretty much only have one logical spot, but since centers can change hands as a result, I’ll let ppl order them. Since I’m running the retreat turn, THEY WILL DISBAND IF NOT ORDERED even tho they only have one option.

Assuming the retreats above all retreat to the supply center if available, and California can only retreat one or the other, and must disband one… then BUILDS are:

BUILDS:

California: Remove 1 (in addition to the army or fleet dislodged)
Catholica: Build 1 (submit conditional 2 builds in case UK does not ret to Mur)
Illinois: Build 8
India: Remove 4
Nigeria: Build 1
Philippines: Remove 1
SichuanEmpire: Build 3
SouthAfrica: Build 1
Turkey: Build 11
UnitedKingdom: Remove 2 (or only 1, if Cath does not take Ireland)
UnitedStates: Remove 5

That’s it!

BUILDS and RETREATS are due TOGETHER!
Tuesday 7/14, 6pm Central.

Enjoy,
-mike

PS - There is also an IL solo proposed. Vote Yay / Nay with Spring orders. (you don’t have to vote on this yet)

DC 247: S1916 - AceRimmer   (Jul 13, 2009, 6:34 pm)
Sorry for the delay. Had to run out the door without adjudicating beforehand. There are a few minor moves, but the big-ticket item is France retreats from Piedmont. Imagine that... the French are retreating. So, France needs to submit a retreat.

As you may have guessed by now, the draw proposal failed. It was doomed like a Republican in the '08 elections. Fortunately, there is another draw proposal on the table for the Fall! This one involves five very seductive and eligible nations, all of whom would get to go home with a trophy. Very tempting, I must admit, though I wouldn't exactly recommend the swimsuit portion of the contest. Please vote with your Fall orders!

Finally, I have had a request to (believe it or not) speed things up a bit. Even though this is the last tournament game, I am somewhat bound by tournament rules, but since this is the last game, I think I can also take liberties. So... if all remaining players agree, I can treat all orders as Final unless otherwise stated. If so, then deadlines would fall at any hour of the day... However, I would not officially set a deadline of shorter than 48 hours (24 for a retreat/adjustment). Hence, the 'speed' in the game would be adjudication as soon as all orders are received.
Myself, I think the Blitz schedule is speedy enough, but it's your game, and I'll let you vote on it. It works like a draw vote, though -- I need universal acclamation.

DC 262: Angstskrik - Realpolitik unavailable. - benjamin.hester at us....   (Jul 13, 2009, 2:19 pm)
Okay, the players have decisively voted to continue on - I'll take that as a good sign that everyone is enjoying the game. I just ask that you all please bear with me - I have a fraction of my normal allocation of email time each day out here during our field training, but I will do all I can to get the adjudications right and out on time.

I may actually ask for a favor - if one of the players is willing (just for the next two seasons until I get back) - I'll manually adjudicate, send out the results, and then if someone would be so kind as to run the results in their copy of realpolitik and send out the map and dpy file, that would be awesome. The alternative is me taking MS Paint and trying to cut and paste the little icons and shading where they need to be. Probably ugly Smile

Any kind souls able to help out?

B.

Subject: DC 262: Angstskrik - Realpolitik unavailable.

Okay, so - bad news. I'm not going to be able to install Realpolitik on the computers up here. So we can continue at normal pace with manual adjudications and maps only, or we can take a break in the game until I return in early August. Default is that we will continue with the game, no change to the deadline. If all players unanimously want to put the game on hold until I return, then we can do that too. I think most of you are running the game on Realpolitik on your own terminals anyway, so it should be an easy matter to enter the adjudication moves into your local copy of RP...

Please send your votes on this situation with the next orders you submit for DC262 Spring 826.

Thanks -

B.

Correction -

The Scots built A Circinn, not F Circinn. For now, as I'm very rushed here getting set up, here's a new map only. I will probably need help to update the Diplomatic Corp page (Mike/Jason?) as I do not think I can access any .com address from here until I return in early August. Updated .dpy file will follow shortly.

Sorry about the confusion, please bear with me, the Reserves are going to make this a little difficult.

Honored Kings of the Dark Ages -

A bitter northern winter settles over both land and sea, and we see both the shipyards and the barracks hard at work raising new forces for the spring, the time when men go off to war...

All builds are valid, and no retreats of course in a winter season, so we move straight on to Spring. This is the last adjudication that will be copied from both the Gmail and army email accounts. So - if you did NOT successfully receive this adjudication announcement from both the Gmail and Army accounts by midnight tonight - you *NEED* to let me know by sending me an email or letting one of the players that has successfully contacted me at the army address know so they can tell me. An email sent only to the Gmail address equals an NMR until I return on 7 August.

Mike/Jason - there is also a distinct possibility that I will not be able to access the Diplomatic Corps website during the next few seasons of adjudications while I am away training with the Reserves. Is there any possibility that I could get some temporary help updating the game on the DC website during that time?

SPRING 826 will be tenatively set for Thursday, July 16, 1700 GMT+1. There is a possibility that I will have a break in email access for the next few days while I am in transit and getting set up. Do not be alarmed if confirmation of orders is slightly delayed. If by some terrible scenario I am completely without email access or cannot adjudicate at the appointed time, well - worst comes to worst, we will take a break and resume when I return. I doubt that will happen. Expect an email from me to touch base and make contact as soon as I am established at training.
As always, for those just joining us or observing, here is the player list:

Turkey: Build F Constantinople

Oh, and we're down to 6 players - Many thanks to Trout, for taking on the Austrian position. Players that are willing to step in and help out like that are always appreciated!

Hey folks,
So I haven't heard from your GM, tho I believe Bruce has been tied up with work and travels lately... so we're gonna get this game moving in the interim.

Germany and Turkey are due for a build.

Let's get those two by Wednesday 7/15, 6pm Central / 2300 GMT.

Then we'll get it moving! Some players have thrown out the idea of a mass draw to call the game. If that is what you want, then you'll have to propose it and vote on it like any other draw. It's your call, but would require unanimous approval to pass it.

Enjoy,
-mike

DC224 Slaughter Of Autumn-Time - Early Winter 08 -... - former.trout   (Jul 12, 2009, 11:05 pm)
Well, well, well...  Knights retreat to River Saeren to lick their wounds, while the Faeries happily find their way back to Land of Sweets.  (And a sweet thing it is, too.)  The Undead muck it up in Sables Swamp and the Wizards dance in the water of the Shining Streams.

Those are the retreats of Autumn 08.  We have a few players on vacation this week, but both have been good enough  to send in prelims for the Winter turn.  I actually have a lot of Winter orders in hand already, which is pretty nice.  =P

Notheless, we'll set the Winter 08 deadline for Tuesday, July 14th (11:59 PM GMT).  Deadline for the Spring of 09 won't be till middle of the week afterwards, in order to accomodate all of our various travelling players.

As always, let me know if you spot any errors or slip-ups.  Cheers!

DC250 My Army Is Bigger - Early Winter 1905 - Unde... - former.trout   (Jul 12, 2009, 1:03 pm)
Heya folks,

Our little delay was due to my waiting in hope for an Italian retreat from Venice.  Unfortunately, one never came and the unit was removed OTB.  As is Russia's unit in Moscow, but that unfortunately was a given.  I'd like to send a shout-out to Joe for stepping into the Russian role so ably, and for playing the hand out right out to the river.  See you in the next one, Joe.

So we have two builds due from Germany and that does us for Winter 1905.  Deadline for those Winter adjustments will be set for Monday, July 13th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers everyone!  Hope you're enjoying a fine sunny July.  =)

DC 262: Angstskrik - Realpolitik unavailable. - benjamin.hester at us....   (Jul 12, 2009, 11:39 am)

DC 262: Angstskrik - Realpolitik unavailable. (dc262) benjamin.hester at us.... Jul 13, 02:19 pm

B.

DC-224 Slaughter of RealWorld Files - Fall 08 Corr... - former.trout   (Jul 12, 2009, 3:09 am)
Hi folks,

Two corrections have been pointed out to me over the last couple days, with my thanks to the players who caught the errors that I missed.  Once again, we found a couple of holes in the RW variant files.  Specifically:

The Faeries should be able to retreat to River Saeren as well as Land of Sweets
The Ogers move from Gelfling to Marshes Of Morva should have succeeded with flying colours.

I've made these corrections to the .map file and attached it for all of you who use the Realworld program.  I've also attached the corrected Fall map showing the proper Ogre positioning.  (Never argue with an Ogre, I've been told.)

Frankly, I blame that damn Leprechaun terrorist organization for causing these two little belches...

Anyways, as one of the hiccups had to do with the retreats, I will extend the Early Winter deadline 24 hours in case Mark wishes to change his order.  I do have all retreats in hand, and will adjudicate the turn tomorrow night.

Cheers everyone!
