DC242: 24h for Fall 1905 - Rocketship   (May 18, 2009, 1:43 am)
Hi Folks,

It's past the deadline, and I'm without orders for France. He's
already used his 24h grace period, but because I neglected to send out
a pre-deadline reminder, I'm going to cut him some slack.

I'll adjudicate in 24h. All are free to submit revised orders until
then.

Cheers,

All orders are in and I have the map done, but I'm calling it a night.
So since it is before the deadline there is an extension until tomorrow.

Feel free to call the GM police if this is a problem.

Fellow players.

We have two draw proposals on the table:

A 3-way draw between England, Russia and Austria. Italy would be credited with a survival.

A Dias (Draw including all survivors)

Be sure to send votes with your orders, and do remember to specify which proposals you are for and/or against.

Prelims are encouraged! Deadline in just about 2 days!

DC212 - Winter 1910 - On The Road Again - former.trout   (May 17, 2009, 11:32 am)
Heya folks,

Austria recruits two new troops - one in Trieste and one in Budapest.  Those are the thrills and the spills of Winter.  Deadline for Spring 1911 orders will be set for Friday, May 22nd (11:59 PM GMT).

On the diplomatic front, an Austrian/English 2-way draw has been proposed.  Please let me know how you feel about this with a yay or nay vote.  If you don't submit a vote, that will count as a no.  If you could send in your vote with your Spring 1911 orders, that would be great.

Cheers all!

As already noted we the German people are happy to land a hand in your defence.
We are prepared to support your TRI army into VIE should you so desire.
All we ask in return is that you treat PIE as a DMZ.
Please advise us of your comments before the Spring deadline as we must prepare our orders accordingly.
Kaiser Willhem

===========================================

Dearest Bertie,

Thank you for your latest most generous missive.

Due to the tardiness of your Highness's postal service however, it arrived too late for me to re-align my forces for last season.

No matter. We agree fully with your sentiments re Russia and Spain, and would only ask that you speed your Fleets to the Mediterranean where the Turkish Fleets are massing, soon to become an irresistable force..

In addition, if it would please you we would ask that in order to aid our Eastern advance could you please realign your Fleets configuration in Northern waters so as to reduce the perceived threat to HOL, and BEL. This would enable me to release most assets Eastwards.

Any positive move in this regard would be most welcome..

Yours in faith,

Willie

DC212 - What Can I Say? - Fall 1910 Redux Redux - former.trout   (May 16, 2009, 6:40 pm)
Heya guys,

Well - never a dull moment I guess.  My apologies for all the confusion, I guess we misinterpreted Greg's intentions.  With William's blessing, we'll revert back to the original Fall 1910 adjudication including his orders for England.  The Winter adjudication will still be put out tomorrow afternoon.

Sorry for all the fuss, folks.  I haven't had this much fun since being kicked in the head by that cross-eyed donkey at the Carnival.  =P

Cheers!

------------------------------

Folks,
The King of England and the Czar of Russia have both sadly stepped down from the throne the weight of the war too much for their shoulders. The new King was sworn in today and King William IV takes the throne. A new Czar should be chosen shortly and should also be sworn in within a day or.

Headlines:

- All but a few units try to move only one makes it back home.
- Austrian troops finally take control over Sevestapool and much celebrating is done by the Austrians.
- The English try to support the one remaining Italian unit but the offer is ignored.
- The French manage to rally the Austrian's for help.

Rick is right. No NMR from him. Just verified. The orders
came WAY in advance of the deadline so I thought they were
old. Verifying that it makes no difference.

Heya folks,

Our new German has an immediate impact on the game as, with Italian support, the black troops victoriously return to Munich.  However, the Kaiser is not so fortunate in Denmark as the Russians show up with something rotten.   Meanwhile, Rumania finds itself turning green - and not with envy..  =)

Three retreats are needed from that Spring turn - two from Russia and one from Germany.  Deadline for the Summer 1908 orders will be set for Monday, May 18th (11:59 PM GMT).

Please let me know if you spot any errors.  Cheers!

I completely missed some orders, sorry folks! Egyptian orders are corrected below.

What this means:

Greek Army Miletus is dislodged, and may retreat to Byz, Gal, or Isa.

Rome: Build 3
Carthage: Build 1
Persia: Build 3
Greece: Build 0 (build 1 if Mil OTB)
Egypt: Build 1

Because of the mixup, I’ll make Winter (and the Autumn retreat) due Tuesday 5/19, 10am Pacific.
(if I have them all Monday I’ll still run it Monday evening)

Single fleet conquers Sparta!

That’s right, rumors are circulating that a large wooden dolphin was spotted off the Spartan coast, and next thing we know the Roman legions leap from within to capture the legendary city.

Not as successful with their own large wooden anchor trick, the Carthaginians are not rewarded for their creativity as the attack on Cyrene is met by fierce resistance.

But now surrounded by 4… what will become of the Cyrenese?

Last, seemingly bored and without purpose, Egyptian fleets sail back and forth across the Eastern Med in search of sea monsters.

DC-212 GM Changes - Reinstatement of England - yeeha77   (May 16, 2009, 3:17 pm)
Folks,The End Game statement were my comments on my departure from the game.  The decision was made to move the game forward and we all know that once things are done they are done.  Behind the scenes I did ask for my abandon to be changed to something else or annul my participation in the game for accuracy, but I did not ask for the clock to be moved backward.

The offer of staying was unexpected, but a punishment I deserve.  But I have to decline. Sometimes in Diplomacy your goal is just to take out the person who took you out.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Jesus is about the only thing that has been successfully resurrected.  Everything else that is buried just smells real bad when you dig it up.

I am aware of the unpleasantness and hurt I caused on this forum.  But don't underestimate how I felt when I saw Abandon by my name and a new player assigned when I checked on the game on the boards.  It hurt a lot to see everything gone.   I know you only heard my rant, but there is a Chinese saying- 'It takes two hands to clap."

This hasn't been the greatest experience for many of us who started the game.   I wish you all a great experience in finishing it.

Heya guys,

With regrets, I have to let you all know that Rachael has voluntarily resigned as GM of DC-212.  She has asked me to step in for her and bring the game over the finish line.  Both she and I apologize for this slight bump in the road.

With regards to the English situation, after much review it has been decided that Greg will be allowed to resume the position of England.  The Fall 1910 turn will be re-run incorporating an English NMR.  William will be offered the very next spot in a standard game.

Please note that this does not mean that Rachael did anything wrong in replacing Greg originally.  That was her call to make at the time.  The decision to reinstate Greg was made for game continuity purposes, the theory being that if they still wish to play then it is better to go with the original players.

My house rules are attached - these are what we will be following.  However, in order to give you time to review them we will not implement them until after the Spring 1911 turn.

If there are any questions, please just let me know.  Thanks for your understanding, everyone...

Cheers!

DC212 Fall 1910 - Redux with English NMR - former.trout   (May 16, 2009, 1:09 pm)
Heya guys,

As promised, here is the re-do of the Fall 1910 turn.  The English NMR doesn't seem to hurt them too badly, and the Winter results remain the same with Austria potting two builds.

Please let me know if you spot any errors.  Since I already have Winter orders from Fredrik, I will most likely put the adjustments out tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks everyone.  Cheers!

A&E 090205 / DC240: corrections - NickHiggins   (May 16, 2009, 11:30 am)
A&E 090205 / DC240: So Frank is correct on both counts, and I apologize for these errors. First, I attached the wrong set of press, and the correct press makes a lot more sense. Second, he is correct on the rule adjudication. I must admit that I was unaware of that rule, and had programmed my adjudication program incorrectly. Thanks for pointing out this error. For an example of this in the rule book, please look at Diagram 13 on pg 9 of the rules in this link below:

http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/diplomacy.pdf

Below, I have included the correct British press, and also the corrected adjudication (the change is in bold, with Prussian A Posen - Berlin succeeding), plus I have attached the corrected map.

Correct British Press:

England to Denmark/Norway: David....too much was being leaked. I had to
either trust Turkey, or trust you. When it came down to it, he seemed
to be more genuine about trying to get both partners seeing success. If
I have misjudged your intentions, I will own that.

England to Turkey: Hopefully we just detroyed the French army. If we did, we're in good shape. If we did not, one or the both of may be in trouble.

England to Austria: Did you attack HeW at the right time? You're in great shape if you did.

England to France:
I couldn't work with you and Turkey. You made a nice argument about
being better positioned to help me, but you are also better positioned
to hurt me, and in fact made an effort to do so last season. Best of
luck from here on out.

England to Poland/Saxony: Did you follow me into Berlin? It would be nice for both of us if you did.

England to Russia: Nathan, are you the mysterious anonymous? I can't wait for end-game comments to find out.

England to Peanut Gallery: Gauntlet thrown down. Now let's all see how I can mess it up.
