OK, well, you all got to see the retreat OTB order from South America. Upcoming is the Winter of 2013 and Winter is not eligible for an EOG proposal, so we'll go ahead with that and leave the perpetual draw proposal on the table for spring.

DC 254, Fall 1901 - alwayshunted (May 15, 2009, 12:25 pm) |
Hey folks,
So I haven't got around to fixing the map yet, and can't do it at work. You will all have to imagine that the German army in Berlin is actually in Munich, and the French army in Burgundy is actually in Picardy. I'll fix it tonight... promise.
I am still missing some adjustment orders, which are due in about 10.5 hours.
GET 'EM IN!!

A note on the map and the .dpy file - I accidentally added an English F in StP. One...this is not a valid build for England; two...I have yet to figure out "undo" on the Mac so I couldn't fix it. There is NO F in StP and that is not a previously ordered build. Simply a GM inefficiency.

Oh Please the game has gone on. I asked politely to go back into the game and was told NO. Insofar as my language is coming out of my ass, that is where I took it.
If someone makes a mistake, they should admit and move on. That is character in my book. I didn't deserve my punishment and when you start a game you expect to finish not be eliminated on a whim.
I have been involved in countless games with worse language.
Ban me, insult me- but don't tell me I deserved what I got.
For the record, I am sorry for offending and if my spirited discussion was taken personally. But yes I am pissed and I think any other person in my shoes would be pissed.
Andy, I think Racheal can speak for herself. I have yet to hear a peep. And by the way, I tried to reserve Fignorant(at)rocketmail.com (Fignorant(at)rocketmail.com) for myself, but it was taken. Maybe you have it?

Moderators and players of 212,
As an upstanding member of the community and Rachael's husband, I hereby officially request that Greg, the player causing the huge problem for this game, be removed from the community.
Mods, let me explain myself:
- If a player NMRs, for whatever reason, it is the GMs decision whether to keep the player or not. Knowing how to correctly spell the work "challenged" is, while commendable on Greg's part, immaterial to the case at hand. That is not how it's spelled in Rachael's email addres, so he screwed up. Plain and simple. Going as far over the deadline as he did, and with no communication with the GM, adverselt affects the game and the other players, and is thus justification for replacement.
- On that note, replacing a player is the GMs decision. There are several good and justifiable reasons to replace a player. Being that overdue on orders, and holding up the game, is one of them.
However, neither of these points is justification for removing someone from the site. Let's get into that.
- Greg personally insulted Rachael. I would have been offended even were she not my wife. Personal attacks are beyond the pale. "fugly(at)rocketmail.com", "the GM is being a baby", "your integrity is pathetic" ... I think Greg's integrity is what should be under the microscope here, but I wouldn't go so far as to say pathetic in a public forum. That would be a personal attack, which I would like to think I'm mature enough to keep out of the Dip community.
- Greg complained that he had put up with countless delays and inconsistencies. He is now the cause of the delay, while the whole game is paused to listen to his rant. He is continuing to be a detriment to the game, even though he's no longer a part of it. He is also becoming a detriment to the site, by showing every party involved how childish he is, and by affecting opinions about the GM.
Mods, if you don't feel Greg's removal is warranted, please let me know privately. I made this call public to spur immediate action. If that action is refused, I'd like to know as soon as possible so that I can take appropriate personal action. That may range from blacklisting the offender, which will be done anyway, to leaving the site myself. I don't wish to be part of a site that allows or encourages this behavior.

DC-212 England Debacle (dc212) TheWhiteWolf May 15, 05:08 pm |
Greg,
I'm going to quote a few things you said and then argue them. I will do so in as dispassionate a tone as possible, since there are still over 20 emails about this situation that I have yet to read. I am only replying to this because I find fault with a few points, and personal attack in one.
"I asked politely to go back into the game and was told NO."
- I've seen the emails you sent to Rachael. There was nothing polite about them.
"For the record, I am sorry for offending and if my spirited discussion was taken personally."
- Spirited discussion? The use of caps lock in email correspondence generally indicates a raised voice. By that merit, quite a bit of what you call spirited discussion was actually interpreted (not just by me, I'm sure) as shouting. That's beyond discussion, and well above spirited, at least in my book.
"I think Racheal can speak for herself."
- I'm well aware that she can, when she wishes to. I do live in the same house with her, after all.
"I have yet to hear a peep."
- This is only true if you mean 'since my last abrasive email'. I know she's had plenty to say since this whole situation cropped up.
"And by the way, I tried to reserve Fignorant(at)rocketmail.com for myself, but it was taken. Maybe you have it?"
- Now you're attacking my character. I don't appreciate the label 'ignorant'. That label implies a non-understanding of a situation, a lack of knowledge or awareness, etc. You know nothing about me personally, except that I have complained about your treatment by your GM, who I happen to be married to. If that leads you to conclusions about me, then perhaps I'm not the ignorant one in this equation.
More replies forthcoming, I'm sure,

And by the way, I tried to reserve Fignorant(at)rocketmail.com for myself, but it was taken. Maybe you have it? |

All,
No retreats were needed. Simple adjustments needed so send those to me.
HOWEVER, a huge game note: I will be gone from Saturday this to Monday next next [the 25th]. In the interim, the wonderful admins of the tourney will have to do our games so you MUST send orders to the orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com address. I will not be doing adjudications and will likely not be able to provide a double-check service while gone [out of country with limited access to email that will be used to ensure MY game as a player goes well].
Adjustments tomorrow by 6pm CST. I will do Winter and then gone for a while.

Clouds to the left of me, Jokers to the right...
There's trouble around the map this turn as Russia takes Greece, the English force their way into the English Channel and Austria annexes Venice. Hate to say it, but I think some of you might have been fibbing to each other. =P
Retreats are due for Summer - from the French and the Turkish. Deadline for Summer 1903 will be set for Saturday, May 16th (11:59 PM GMT). Sorry about the weekend deadline, guys, but since it is only two retreats due then I have a feeling we can hack it.

A note on the map and the .dpy file - I accidentally added an English F in StP. One...this is not a valid build for England; two...I have yet to figure out "undo" on the Mac so I couldn't fix it. There is NO F in StP and that is not a previously ordered build. Simply a GM inefficiency.
Andrew,
Thanks for fighting this one to the end and being a stand-up player.

Trout- Can't thank you enough for a magnificent job as GM. You kept the game running smoothly and I felt that you were as much a part of the game as any of the players.
After extensive analysis of my play as Turkey, I have concluded that my strategy and execution were flawless until Spring '02. About that time I opted to initiate an all out attack on Austria because he was a convenient easy target and Italy because, well, he was Italy and it's just what Turkey does. I felt comfortable with the plan because of my alliance with Russia knowing full well I could leave myself somewhat exposed without fear of being attacked by my ally. Silly me. Following the Russian stab, I spent the rest of the game in the fetal position trying to deny Joe the three Turkey spots and the solo. Nat was so totally focused on revenge that I couldn't get him to see the danger of a Russian solo.
After Scott entered the game and Russia's solo effort was effectively ended, Joe and Scott teamed up beautifully to stop France from soloing.
Then it became interesting. The game should have been over but it kept plodding along. Scott and Joe kept hammering France and the draws kept being turned down. I really thought Joe was the culprit and was getting set to try for the solo again. My suggestion that Russia and Italy hold in place to draw the game was ignored so I decided to force the issue by attacking both Joe and Scott. Silly me.
Well it's over. It was great fun, as always, and now it's on to the next adventure. I enjoyed the game very much and look forward to playing against everyone again in the future.

A&E 090205 / DC240: deadline extension for one... - NickHiggins (May 14, 2009, 8:17 pm) |
A&E 090205 / DC240: We have had two separate requests (France, Turkey) for deadline extensions for one day. Those requests have been granted. I would ask that, if possible (and it seems like it wasn't this time), that players please ask for a deadline extension further in advance than the day of the deadline.
Our new deadline for Spring 1769 is Fri May 15th at 10 pm USA eastern time. Our following deadline for Spring Retreat 1769 (if necessary) will be on Mon May 18th, and then the Fall 1769 will be back to our usual schedule on Thu May 21st.
Thanks, Nick

Okay
Swamped last night, couldn't run the turn but Turkey has asked me for a 'few' hours to get moves in. Since I would rather have Turkey's moves than CD him at this stage of the game.. I am given Kevin 12 hours (my time) to get some moves in for the turn.
(to be honest, since I am writing reports all day.. i coiuld use the break myself)

dc246 fall 1907 results! - coryfucius (May 14, 2009, 4:49 pm) |
Sorry for the delay, my Internet connection was down for over an hour this afternoon...
Italy, with assistance from France, gains the upper hand on Austria and takes Trieste. The French army departs from Rome, allowing Italy to gain the build. The only other unit to move is the Austrian army in Albania, all other move orders fail.
We do have an autumn retreat due, the Austrian army in Trieste may retreat to Budapest or OTB. Winter adjustments are as follows:
Austria: remove 1 (no change if retreat OTB)
Italy: build 1
Both the retreat and adjustment orders will be due tomorrow, Friday 5/15 at 3pm Central (US) / 20:00 GMT. Thanks!
Cory

DC 247: It sucks to be you... - AceRimmer (May 14, 2009, 2:38 pm) |
And when I say it sucks to be you, I of course mean YOU, Paul Russell. Not that it's great to be Michael, mind you. But Michael (in spite of his first NMR) has the solace of treading water for yet one more season. All hail the King of Belgium. Poor Paul, on the other hand, has been the victim of a wealth redistribution program (and by wealth redistribution, I of course mean that he's been jumped in a back alleyway and robbed blind). And that traveling army in Picardy we were all marveling about last season is now kind of out-of-position for defending the Austrian homeland.
Not to be overlooked, there's an English fleet in Brest, too. But I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.
I guess we have officially reached the Middle Game. As they say in square dancing, "Change your partner..."
There are two retreats:
Russian A Livonia can retreat to Prussia, Moscow, Warsaw, or OTB.
Austrian A Munich can retreat to Bohemia, Tyrolia, or OTB.
Furthermore, EVERYBODY but Germany has adjustments due tomorrow at 14:00 CST. Assuming no OTB retreats, we have:
Austria: Supp 4 Unit 7 Remove 3
England: Supp 8 Unit 7 Build 1
France: Supp 5 Unit 6 Remove 1
Germany: Supp 1 Unit 1 Build 0
Italy: Supp 1 Unit 2 Remove 1
Russia: Supp 9 Unit 7 Build 2
Turkey: Supp 6 Unit 4 Build 2
Adjustment orders CAN be made conditional upon retreat orders. It figures to be a fun Autumn and Winter.

DC 212 Fall 1910 Adjudication - Verticallychallangedcutie (May 14, 2009, 12:25 pm) |
Folks,
The King of England and the Czar of Russia have both sadly stepped down from the throne the weight of the war too much for their shoulders. The new King was sworn in today and King William IV takes the throne. A new Czar should be chosen shortly and should also be sworn in within a day or.
Headlines:
- All but a few units try to move only one makes it back home.
- Austrian troops finally take control over Sevestapool and much celebrating is done by the Austrians.
- The English try to support the one remaining Italian unit but the offer is ignored.
