dc252 - f01 results! - FuzzyLogic   (Apr 30, 2009, 11:17 pm)
The tension and battles right off the bat are fantastic! Only Carthage and Rome manage a peaceful turn, while the east is full of early conflict – Roman and Persian armies clash over Chersonesus, while Egyptian fleets have a tussle with the Roman navy over Crete. What’s this leave us? A nice statistical distribution of builds:

Rome: Build 3
Carthage: Build 3
Persia: Build 2
Greece: Build 1
Egypt: Build 2

BUILDS will be due Friday May 1, 10pm Central US time. This is just to knock them out by the weekend. If someone is late w the short turn, I won’t run an NBR till Monday.

Rome:
A Etruria - Massilia
F Sicilia Hold
A Venetia - Dalmatia

Carthage:
F Gulf of Tacape - Leptis
A Mauretania - Saguntum
A Numidia Supports F Gulf of Tacape - Leptis

Persia:

A Cappadocia - Sinope
F Cilician Strait - Cyprus

Greece:
F Aegean Sea - Crete (*Bounce*)
A Dacia - Chersonesus (*Bounce*)
A Macedonia - Byzantium

Egypt:

dc246 fall 1905 results! - mtodd0004   (Apr 30, 2009, 10:42 pm)
Greetings Fellow DC246 Participants,

The Übermensch are not pleased with me.  I should not have said you are off the hook.  They do not like my use of Dave Chappelle-like slang.  It was the worst thing they'd ever heard.

Again, I apologize for calling all the players in DC "off the hook".  I retract that, and say, only the players playing Austria and Turkey in my game are "off the hook".

Grace and Peace (to all players who are not Austria and Turkey),

Inimically Yours (to the players playing Austria and Turkey),

Michael

DC250 My Army Is Bigger - Spring 1902 - Skeletons - former.trout   (Apr 30, 2009, 10:36 pm)
Heya folks,

All orders are in on time - and we rock into Spring 02.  The English and French butt heads in the English Channel while we have a bit of a traffic jam in Eastern Europe.  Turkey disrupts the Russian slow-boat to Armenia and dislodges the Black Sea fleet.

That was the only retreat needed after all the ruckus, but there was only the one place to send it to.  I took the liberty of sending the Black Sea fleet to Armenia, but if OTB is preferred then please just let me know.  Fall 1902 deadline will be set for Wednesday, May 6th (11:59 PM GMT).

Shout out if you spot a screw-up.  Cheers!

DC-230 Lost Kings Of Lore - Spring 04 - Rockets Aw... - former.trout   (Apr 30, 2009, 10:10 pm)
Heya Fellow Lost Kings,

The arrows on the map seem to pinwheel about the eastern half of the board this turn - Turkey being the rock that all others rotate around.  France makes a move to the south to find Italy there ready and waiting.  Germany sends the troops into the north-eastern snows and England struggles to hold Edinburgh...

There was one retreat as a result - owed by the English in Clyde.  However, only the Norwegian Sea was open to move to, so I took the liberty.  (Aidan, if OTB is preferred than please just let me know.)  With that out of the way, we'll set the Fall 04 deadline for Wednesday, May 6th (11:59 PM GMT).

Let me know if you spot any errors.  Cheers!

The Noose Continues to Tighten on Turkey
A Turkish Misorder?
Will Turkey Capitulate or Fight Until the End?

All,
No retreats needed. Germany can build 1 and England 3. Turkey doesn't have to disband due to what appears to be a mis-order. Army Greece attempted to convoy to Smyrna but the F in the Aegean forgot to convoy and supported the move instead.

Builds due tomorrow 5pm CST and Spring is due Monday the 4th at 5pm CST.

A&E 090205 / DC240: Brits in Berlin - NickHiggins   (Apr 30, 2009, 9:04 pm)
A&E 090205 / DC240: The unrelenting high drama of this fantastic game continues with a British stab of Denmark-Norway. The Danish possessions in the Prussian homeland have been occupied, and Konge David (King David) has some difficult tactical decisions to make this fall. In a further setback, the Danish bid to conquer Koenigsberg fell short, with a Polish-Saxon army bouncing there also.

In the Mediterranean, the Austrian fleet recaptured Two Sicilies, one season after spurning the support of the army in the Papal States. It remains to seen whether the Archduke can hold it down in the critical fall season. The Alpine battleline moved slightly east, with Spain surrendering Marseilles to a British army (which apparently will now turn it over to a French army). In Iberia, the problematic Austrian unit was destroyed, which can be viewed in Vienna as both a curse (that army was a nice tactical piece tying down many units in the back lines) and a blessing (Austria can rebuild a unit of their choice... if Austria gets a build).

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out in the "money" Fall season, when the gains of spring are either consolidated, expanded on, or reversed. The deadline for the 1768 Spring Retreat season is Fri May 1st, with the only order needed from Turkey for the fleet in Two Sicilies. The following deadline for the 1768 Fall season is Thu May 7th.

Before the adjudication, the entertaining press war continues, with the new twist of a contribution from the Peanut Gallery (thanks!).

Press #1 (Peanut Gallery)
The Peanut Gallery to Britain: The Mike Matusow of Diplomacy? You, Frank? After watching the Apprentice with Donald Trump, I would have pegged you as the mischevious and manipulative Annie Duke. But at least you don't have Joan Rivers out to get you.

Press #2 (British)
England to France: Mike, I don't expect we made Marseilles, but if we did, I will return it to French control as soon as possible.

England to Denmark/Norway: I had to attack somewhere, David. I wouldn't be surprised if you stopped me, or if you even attacked Han. haha...it was good while it lasted, but I think we both knew the day would come where it had to come to blows.

England to Anonymous: One to add to your list.

England to Peanut Gallery: Was this the moment? Should I have played for the shared victory with Denmark/Norway?

Press #3 (Anonymous)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The notion that it's Austria talking to you this way is certainly flattering. Were I ever so big, I would be making deep gashes in you about now. Face facts, Frank: you've got this whole game wired. Everyone's jumping when you say so. But it'll come crashing down on you ... if they wise up in time. If they're all chumps, well, you'll win. Which basically means that you can only beat chumps, champ.

DC-222 Two Steps To Anarchy - Fall 1907 - Windmill... - former.trout   (Apr 30, 2009, 8:52 pm)
Heya folks,

Well, this turn might have been worth the wait.  Lots of movement afoot as a game of musical chairs is played in eastern Europe.  Italy takes Budapest, Russia reclaims Rumania and pop goes the weasel...  Meanwhile, a slight northern shuffle happens in France with Italy ending up in Marseilles.  And Englands final bounce in Holland means that we find ourselves saying adieu to Nathan.  Thanks for playing it out right till the Dutch chocolate end, man...

There was one retreat needed from Russia in Budapest, but the white army had only Galicia to fall back to.  If OTB is preferred, then please just let me know.  For now though, we'll set the Winter 1907 deadline for Saturday, May 2nd (11:59 PM GMT).

Let me know if you spot any errors at all.  Cheers!

DC226 Spring 1906 delayed for Taxes! - hapolley   (Apr 30, 2009, 6:44 pm)
When I made the deadline I forgot about the hundreds of paper I had to sift through to do taxes, so the one player who did not send in moves gets an extension.  New deadline is Saturday, unless all moves are in before then.

With warm regards, Hugh

Greetings Fellow DC246 Participants,

The Übermensch are not pleased with me.  I should not have said you are off the hook.  They do not like my use of Dave Chappelle-like slang.  It was the worst thing they'd ever heard.

Again, I apologize for calling all the players in DC "off the hook".  I retract that, and say, only the players playing Austria and Turkey in my game are "off the hook".

Grace and Peace (to all players who are not Austria and Turkey),

But I like being "off the hook". I am also the "shizzle" and the "bomb-diggity" for those scoring at home.

Oh wait...I probably should choose something English so let's go with "cheeky".

No retreats (on account of disbandments).

Winter 1905 orders due from: England, France, Germany, and Russia.

I just want to take a moment and say that this has truly been an interesting game, and I fully expect it to remain that way. My heart goes out to Germany, who drew the short lot. He is the Chrysler of this match -- I no longer believe his position is viable. But the rest of you are fine, fully-loaded, high-precision luxury vehicles of the future. Personally, I'm a fan of convertibles (actually, I'm a fan of walking, but that's another lecture...) -- when the weather's inclement, they make do. When the weather is sunny, put the top down and cruise. Give me a Miata convertible any day. So far, some of you have made do. Others have the top down. But have you checked the weekend weather forecast?

Good luck!

DC 254 Onward - alwayshunted   (Apr 30, 2009, 11:15 am)
Hey people,

I've got our missing player back, so we're underway. I am going to set the new deadline for tomorrow night, which is Friday, May 1, 22:00 MDT.

I must confess that I'm not sure how that will work for me... it's a weird situation since I'm switching jobs, and my last day at the old job is tomorrow, and I won't have a computer by about 4 pm.

Anyhow, I will try to find access to adjudicate tomorrow night, but more likely it will be Saturday morning sometime. So you've got a minimum of about 36 hours to submit or change your orders.

Later,

Warren

.ExternalClass .EC_hmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.EC_hmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} Hi folks.

Well, we have a request for a delay due to some internet access problems from one of the players. I have no reason not to allow it, so I'm going to extend the deadline for a short while, duration yet to be determined. If I don't hear from the player relatively soon I will prod a bit.

One more note to add. When you are sending me orders, please specify in the subject line the turn (i.e. spring 1901), your country, but MOST IMPORTANTLY for my convenience, the game number (DC 254). I probably won't miss your orders, but it makes my life a whole lot easier.

I still don't have any preliminary orders from a few of you. Get 'em in people.

Thanks!

All right, with that now out of the way, here are some guidelines for you.

Rules:
I follow the DC house rules. PLEASE READ THEM.

www.diplomaticcorp.com

It is pretty standard diplomacy, with a couple of points to note. First, there are NO DEFAULT builds or retreats. If you fail to submit orders for retreats your unit will be disbanded, and if you fail to submit builds, you don't get any.

Deadlines:
Never less than one week before any major turn (spring or fall) from the previous adjudication (summer or winter), and not any deadlines on weekends. I am in the Mountain time zone in western Canada, and my deadlines are in the evenings, my time. As an example of a typical year.....

Spring due on Tuesday, April 28
Summer due on Wed., April 29
Fall due on Wed May 6
Autumn (retreats) due on Thur. May 7
Winter (builds) due on Fri. May 8
Spring due on Fri. May 15.... etc.

The actual deadline occurs when I open my mail account with the intent of running the turn, so sometimes you might get some bonus time... but NEVER count on it.

Just so you are all aware, I can help out sometimes with questions on rules or other things, but I will never advise anyone on particulars of this game, or on any strategy. I encourage anyone who is relatively new, or just rusty, to read a current rule book. Go to the downloads on the DC club site, I think is the best way to find them. Once again....

www.diplomaticcorp.com

So, our first deadline. Let's give ourselves a few extra days since it's first turn, and make Spring 1901 due on Wednesday, April 29, 22:00 MDT. That's 04:00 GMT on the 30th.

Send me any questions, concerns or comments. I know you all know it, but the map is attached anyhow. I will send a .dpy and .gif for each turn, and you can always get a current map on the game page at the club site.

I accept orders anytime, and you can change them as many times as you like up to the deadline. So get preliminary orders in to me as soon as you can. You never know what can come up.......

Ummmmm, I can't think of anything else, but of course I am missing something. Please let me know what it is at your leisure.....

Have a great game everyone. Looking forward to it.

Warren
