DC 217, game end - alwayshunted   (Mar 25, 2009, 12:22 pm)
Hi people,

Just a quick note, I have to mention that there was actually only one nmr in the last turn, as Matt submitted orders for Germany quite a while ago that I missed.

Thanks again to all of you for getting them in, most of the time.....

Warren

DC 217, Fall 1907 - Slangers   (Mar 25, 2009, 2:48 am)
GAME END STATEMENT: RUSSIA<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedfficeSurprisedffice" />
I am really thrilled to have won this game. I have played Diplomacy by mail for around 30 years, but have never had a solo win. Now in my first email based game, I get the win. Maybe my luck has finally changed. On the other hand, I don’t think I have ever told so many lies in a single game, and my conscience is in shreds. Sorry everybody.
The game went well from the start. I was able to convince both Italy and Turkey to join me in an attack on Austria. Poor Austria- there was nothing he could do to save himself and despite a good fight we overwhelmed him very quickly. In 1902 I had to make the decision who to work with next. My head said Turkey and my heart said Italy. I followed my head and chose wrong as Rachel completely messed up the stab on Italy. Our surprise attack on Serbia went horribly wrong, leaving us with an irate and unscathed Italian. That was the start of the hard diplomacy. I had to win back the trust of Stjepan and was lucky that he was incredibly far sighted and forgiving. Thus began the grand R-I alliance. My stab on Rachel was incredibly satisfying, not least because of her irate response. How I chuckled over those reproachful emails... Together Italy and I were able to subdue her easily.
To the north, things were not looking so good. From the start of the game, my relations with England and Germany were not good, but I didn’t worry too much as I expected their war with France to tie them up for a while. It was surprising to see that although they had 2v1 they could not make progress against France, and really shocking to see how England allowed a French fleet to break and take first Lpl and then Edi. It soon became apparent that Michael was calling the shots in the E-G alliance and that he had an unhealthy ob session with Scandinavia. This was his ultimately his undoing. If E-G had stuck to their task, France would have been defeated and I would have had a harder job. Drew was someone they could not afford to let off the hook. In my view he was the best player in this game.
The first great turning point in the game was the formation of an unlikely F-E-G alliance in spring 1904. The plans made by Stjepan and I took a bit of a hit in that season. This scared me to death as the potential for the evil triumvirate to sweep R-I aside was great. Diplomacy time again. Somehow I convinced E & G that working with F would just hand the game to Drew on a plate. I don’t know why they bought this idea as it had no solid foundation, but they did and stabbed France. However, I was still left with hostile units all over Scandinavia and StP in a position where it could not be saved. The F-E-G alliance was broken, but E &G were really in no mood to be active allies of mine.
Then came the miracle of 1905. I made some deals with E and G, where remarkably (and again inexplicably) they were to pull back from my gates. The deadline came and went and there was no adjudication. I then told Germany that I had broken the deal. This provoked outrage from England and so to save the alliance I innocently suggested that we copied each other in on our emails to Warren giving our orders, as a tool to promote trust between us. I duly waited for E-G orders to pop into my inbox and, rather evilly, calmly took 2 centres off them. At the same time Italy pushed England out of Tunis and France took Brest. England -4 sc in one season- an amazing result.
With E & G neutered and France working alone, the decision on whether to stick with Italy loomed large. In Fall 1905, Stjepan had the chance to hit me and chose not to. This was another critical turning point. To be fair, I don’t think Italy could really have won. He might have grabbed an sc from me, but I could have held him there and worked with France to stop the win. We’d have ended with a three way draw. With this let off, my chance came. I think my stab on Italy was a thing of beauty. Perfect timing, perfectly disguised. From the moment I launched it I knew I was unstoppable. I took 13 sc in just 3 years and that was that.
Thanks to everyone who played and to Warren, for a great game. Special thanks to Stjepan for being such a great ally for most of the game and to Drew for some very entertaining correspondence.
Simon

Hey folks,

Well, again no orders from Italy, or Germany this time. I suppose it is mostly irrelevant at this point, but they still count as nmrs at the club site. We have a solo winner, with Russia finishing at 21 supply centers after 1907. Quite a convincing win, congratulations Simon.

I enjoyed watching this one unfold. Thanks to all of you for mostly getting your orders in and keeping the game moving along.

Lads and Lady!
Let's get ready to blitzkreig our way into Rd 2. Below is our lineup for this game. Feel free to start your diplomacy. I think this will be an interesting one since I have had the pleasure, nay the honor, of playing with more of you than not. Now I just get to sit back and watch.

I am Garry, your often less than noble GM for this one. I may also refer to this game as Torjik. I find it easier to keep track of that way. I will give more on the name at a later time.

As you may note, I am still running a game from Rd 1 and playing in Rd 2 myself. I only mention it so you realize that I am balancing a few things but will do my best to be punctual.

Our deadlines will be at 6pm CST [12am GMT I think?]. Our first deadline is next Monday [the 30th]. Please use this email address for orders and DON'T FORGET TO COPY orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com (orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com). In the event I am out of town, Trout or Mike will fill in for me and retrieve orders from there. I typically try to remind you but you should do it anyway.

That should get us rolling. Best of luck [just not enough to beat me in the standings!].

Hey Two-Steppers,

Fall 1906 rolls around without a hitch and we see a change of tides. The French retake Marseilles, Italy keeps its hold on Portugal and Russia sweeps through the center taking Kiel and Munich as well as a couple other dots.

Two retreats are needed as a result - one from the French in Marseilles and one from the Germans in Kiel. Deadline for the Early Winter 06 retreats will be set for Thursday, March 26th (11:59 PM GMT).

Please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!

Subject: DC230 Fall 02 - Much Ado In Bulgaria

Hey there folks,

Lots of noise and confusion in the south as everyone seems to buy a ticket for Bulgarian station. Meanwhile, the French spend an autumn vacation in the Welsh countryside.

No retreats are needed, and only a single Winter 02 adjustment. Germany gains a build, which is the sum total of what is needed for Winter. Deadline for Winter 02 will be set for Thursday, March 26th (11:59 PM GMT).

Just let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers all!

Cheers all!

For congruency sake... can we all label our messages with dc248 (without the space)?  Some filters don't like the space in between dc and 248.  The label of the game on the DC website doesn't have a space in there, and I agree with B that I don't want to miss any messages.

As for me, I will be sending out emails tonight.  I was in Vegas for the weekend losing lots of money and had to catch up on sleep last night.  Hope to talk to y'all soon.

dc246 game start! - coryfucius   (Mar 24, 2009, 4:42 pm)
Hello, everyone, your humble GM has arrived to announce that our game is starting! Our Winter Blitz Round 2 game has been designated as dc-246.

For those who don't know me yet, my name is Cory Burris, and I have been a member of DC for nearly 3 years. Most of my Diplomacy activity recently has been limited to GM duties, as the task of locating billions of dollars for a cratering state budget has taken up a fair amount of my time in recent months. I have the (mis)fortune of working in the budget office of the Governor of Illinois, who took office just two months ago after our previous Governor was impeached and removed from office! No, I am not related to our state's junior US Senator, who was appointed by that former Governor before he was sent packing.

The player roster and e-mail addresses, as well as the country assignments, appear below. Please feel free to introduce yourselves to everyone.

Since this is a tournament game, there is a common set of rules and season deadlines that all GMs are observing. This can be found at orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com (orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com) -- this is for your protection in case your e-mail doesn't get through to me, or if I am not available and need a substitute GM to run a turn.

Don't forget to check out the game's page on the DC web site at www.diplomaticcorp.com/?game_id=dc246 -- I will update it after each adjudication. I will also e-mail each adjudication to everyone, as well as a .dpy game file for use in the Realpolitik adjudication software.

Also, keep in mind that there are $25 cash prizes for the winners of the Best Stab and Best Press awards, to be voted on after the conclusion of the tournament.

The spring 1901 deadline is Monday, April 6 at 3pm Central (US) / 20:00 GMT. FYI, I usually don't have Internet access on weekends, so those of you who send me spring season orders over a weekend should expect to see my acknowledgement e-mail on Monday morning. Happy stabbing!

Cory

Folks,
I know I wasn't in the game very long but several real life circumstance prevented me from continuing before getting eliminated.. First event that occurred is that Navy turned down our extension request where we were currently living. So that meant a move back to San Antonio, TX with 2 weeks notice ( We were originally told we had a 99% chance that the extension would get approved ). So I sent Adam 2 seasons worth of moves with my units holding. However once we got back to Texas and called the internet company that day they told us they could not install our cable and internet until Mar 2nd. While waiting for the internet on Feb 24th I was rushed to the emergency room with severe upper abdominal pain and was blacking out. After an IV of fluids and some heavy pain meds they preformed an ultrasound and found that I had a lot of Gallstones. Two of the gallstones had dropped into my common bile duct ( are you lost yet lol ) and obstructed it blocking off all functions causing the gallbladder to become infected and it stopped working. Soo after 9 hours in the emergency room they admitted me and the next morning they took me in for surgery and removed my gallbladder. I spent another 2 days in the hospital recovering and being monotered and they sent me home. I still can't lift anything over 10lbs and am not allowed to drive until the 6 week mark after surgery. I want to thank Stephen L for stepping in and trying to keep me alive when I could not do so.

Congrats on the win Garry!

DC 211: S1909 - AceRimmer   (Mar 24, 2009, 10:52 am)
Lots of movement this turn, mostly behind the scenes, as nations shuffle their troops so as best to reach an ever-shifting front. Berlin takes the Russian flag out of the broom closet and prepares to run it back up the flagpole. The Swedes once again hunker down to endure the harsh tyranny of the Trout. Net change: zero. But there are openings and opportunities here and there. I think there are a lot of fascinating maneuvers going down, and the S1909 Seismics should promise more.

No retreats (well, there was the Russian army in Sweden, but it couldn’t swim, so it was disbanded). Seismic orders are due on Thursday at 1000 CST / 1500 GMT.

Sorry - just doing my best Scarecrow without a brain impression.  I find it isn't that much of a stretch for me.  =P

It's Daniloth for the Gnomes, Shining Streams for the Elves and the Hobbitses take to the Wilderland.

We have a family emergency arisen with one of our players, so the deadline for Fall orders will be just a touch longer than norm.  Please have your Fall 05 moves in to me by Wednesday, April 1st (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers to all you gnashers out there - with a special shout-out to the wailers!

You know...  The one with the cymbals.  =P

The DIAS is voted down, and little movement is seen on the board with the exception of the Scandinavias.  Nontheless, we groove on heartily into the Fall 12 turn.  Deadline will be set for Monday, March 30th (11:59 PM GMT).

Let me know if you spot any errors.  Cheers gang!

A&E 090205 / DC240: Spring 1765 retreat season... - NickHiggins   (Mar 23, 2009, 11:52 pm)
A&E 090205 / DC240: The Spring 1765 retreat season has been adjudicated. The Archduke faced an intriguing decision, and decided to hold down the fort in Germania.

Our next deadline for Fall 1765 is Thu, Mar 26th.

Retreat Adjudications Austrian A Boh retreats to BaW
Swedish F GBo retreats to Sto
We also have some very funny self-deprecating Danish press...

PRESS(Danish)

The Danish nation was shocked last spring to learn that one of its fleets had succeeded in an action. This almost unprecedented event has sparked demonstrations in the street, outrage in the press and anger in the corridors of power. It is rumoured that the king is even considering sacking the chief of naval staff over the affair, and there are reports that the admiral in charge of the fleet that mades it way from Copenhagen to the disputed province of Holstein has telegraphed his resignation.
A senior member of the government, speaking on condition of anonymity, had this to say: 'This is a a day of great shame for us. Something is indeed rotten in the state of Denmark when our navy can take it upon itself to not only sail out of port but fail to return in that same season. Further actions of this sort cannot be tolerated. We cannot let the millions of krone and the decades spent on creating the most incompetent military in Europe be wasted in this cavalier fashion. A failure to fail on this magnitude is breathtaking.'
