DC223 - Fall 1907 adjudication - bielf11   (Mar 23, 2009, 7:27 pm)
Fall 1907: Not much to report but there definitely some things worth mentioning.
in the ongoing stalemate in between France and Germany, Germany has changed its strategy. And with success. The French army in Burgundy is forced to retreat. Germany also enters the North Sea with support from Russia that it wouldn't have needed as the French fleet moves to Helgoland Bight, right on the border of the German empire. Russia seems to take it easy. Most of its units kept their position. Although Serbia was taken, it coincided with a Turkish exit to Bulgaria. The Turks and the Italians had a standoff in the naval battle over the Ionian Sea, but since the Italians had left unprotected the Turkish fleet from Napels swiftly moved in.

The proposal for Draw between France and Russia was voted DOWN.

DC235 Dirkfell S1911 Results - EGP's to vote on! - garry.bledsoe   (Mar 23, 2009, 5:49 pm)
Germany Forced from Austria; Austria Forced from Greece
A Lot of Positioning But No Other Real Changes
Two EGPs to Vote On.

All,
We have two EGP's to vote on:

1. An E/G 2-way draw [survival for France, Italy, Austria and Turkey]
2. An E/G/T 3-way draw [survival for France, Italy and Austria]

Please remember to vote on these with your Fall orders. IF I get no vote from someone, that is considered a YES. Perchance if both pass, the more inclusive of the two would be accepted.

There was only one retreat, A(Gre). It could only go to Alb so I made that happen. If Warren wants OTB he can let me know by tomorrow.

Otherwise we move on to Fall this Thursday. PLEASE COPY ORDERS TO THE ORDER BOX. I WILL BE AWAY AND UNABLE TO DO FALL OR WINTER DEADLINE THIS TIME.

DC219, Winter 1908 - m_don_j   (Mar 23, 2009, 3:44 pm)
And here are the results! Thanks to Andrei for playing!

England:
Build A London
Build F Edinburgh

France:
Remove A Gascony

Germany:
Remove A Paris

Italy:
Remove F Adriatic Sea

Russia:
Build A Moscow

And with that we move on!

Deadline for Spring 09: Wednesday 25th March, 20:00:01 GMT

I'm running this a bit faster since I'll be on a vacation from the coming Sunday (29th) and I don't know how long I'll be gone. Thus, I hope we can do 09 before I leave. Sounds okay?

Prelims are encouraged - and if I get all in early, and none are marked preliminary, then I will adjudicate.

Have fun!

DC219, Disbands and builds are in - m_don_j   (Mar 23, 2009, 3:35 pm)
Fellow players!

I have all adjustments. Further, I misscalculated the time Sam and Chris had left...and the timestamps on their messages show that they did make it in before deadline. Thus, graces are still intact.

I will now adjudicate.

I'm missing German and Italian disbands. Chris, Sam, hurry up! I'm starting your 24 hour grace periods now. If no disband has reached my inbox before that, I will remove units in accordance with the dipcorp houserules:

On a Winter turn an NMR (NBR/NDR) would mean that if the player was building - the builds would be waived and if the player was disbanding, units would be disbanded under the following rules
[*:c8e502b42c]Units furthest from the nearest home center before units closer to the nearest home center [*:c8e502b42c]Units not in a supply center before units in a supply center if equidistant from home [*:c8e502b42c]Fleets before armies if still no unique unit selected per above [*:c8e502b42c]Alphabetical[/listSurprised:c8e502b42c]
This would mean a default disband of Par and Pie for Germany and of Mar for Italy.

Cheers!

/ Mikael

Throughout my first round game, I was constantly making errors and mistakes in my adjudications due to my hectic schedule, but don't worry, I don't have anything that should interfere with this round. I've assigned you countries randomly, and adjusted the assignments slightly so no one had the same country two times in a row or no one had two large countries or two small countries. Basically, These assignments should make the tournament rather balanced. Before I tell you them, however, I do need to go through several more things. First, I think it prudent to remind everyone about our two awards: Best Press and Best Stab. You don't have to win the tournament to get an award, just be creative or deceptive! It's that easy! Also, you should all know that our first deadline, for spring 1901 is, Drumroll Please,  Monday, March 30th, 2008, at 5:00 PM ET. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me, and I'll be happy to answer them, but for now, I'll leave you with these:

Thanks.

For congruency sake... can we all label our messages with dc248 (without the space)?  Some filters don't like the space in between dc and 248.  The label of the game on the DC website doesn't have a space in there, and I agree with B that I don't want to miss any messages.

As for me, I will be sending out emails tonight.  I was in Vegas for the weekend losing lots of money and had to catch up on sleep last night.  Hope to talk to y'all soon.

Folks,
I know I wasn't in the game very long but several real life circumstance prevented me from continuing before getting eliminated.. First event that occurred is that Navy turned down our extension request where we were currently living. So that meant a move back to San Antonio, TX with 2 weeks notice ( We were originally told we had a 99% chance that the extension would get approved ). So I sent Adam 2 seasons worth of moves with my units holding. However once we got back to Texas and called the internet company that day they told us they could not install our cable and internet until Mar 2nd. While waiting for the internet on Feb 24th I was rushed to the emergency room with severe upper abdominal pain and was blacking out. After an IV of fluids and some heavy pain meds they preformed an ultrasound and found that I had a lot of Gallstones. Two of the gallstones had dropped into my common bile duct ( are you lost yet lol ) and obstructed it blocking off all functions causing the gallbladder to become infected and it stopped working. Soo after 9 hours in the emergency room they admitted me and the next morning they took me in for surgery and removed my gallbladder. I spent another 2 days in the hospital recovering and being monotered and they sent me home. I still can't lift anything over 10lbs and am not allowed to drive until the 6 week mark after surgery. I want to thank Stephen L for stepping in and trying to keep me alive when I could not do so.

Congrats on the win Garry!

DC219, Missing disbands - m_don_j   (Mar 23, 2009, 2:16 pm)
Fellow players,

I'm missing German and Italian disbands. Chris, Sam, hurry up! I'm starting your 24 hour grace periods now. If no disband has reached my inbox before that, I will remove units in accordance with the dipcorp houserules:

On a Winter turn an NMR (NBR/NDR) would mean that if the player was building - the builds would be waived and if the player was disbanding, units would be disbanded under the following rules
[*:8c2ce14b44]Units furthest from the nearest home center before units closer to the nearest home center[*:8c2ce14b44]Units not in a supply center before units in a supply center if equidistant from home[*:8c2ce14b44]Fleets before armies if still no unique unit selected per above[*:8c2ce14b44]Alphabetical[/listSurprised:8c2ce14b44]
This would mean a default disband of Par and Pie for Germany and of Mar for Italy.

Cheers!

/ Mikael

Cheers!

/ Mikael

dc231 Game Over - jhack16   (Mar 23, 2009, 12:01 pm)
Hi Christine,

Many thanks for your most efficient GM'ing of this game through what were obviously difficult times for you.

The consistent speed of your adjudications throughout the game set a new standard for me at least! It was great to know that the moves would be updated within an hour of the deadline, and on occasion just 15 mins! Phew!

My thanks to eveyone who made this game most enjoyable, and my apologies to Jason and Nigel who I felt I had to stab...

My end of game statement will be brief:

As Italy I felt I had to have an alliance with France (Dario) while we both went our separate ways. I looked to Jason (Austria) for a Lepanto against Turkey, but not much positive response was forthcoming, while Brian (Russia) and Nigel (Turkey) were both lukewarm about an early alliance.

I went therefore for a wait and see strategy, but no offers came in...At decision time it was either attack Germany or Austria, and I felt Austria to be geographically speaking, the easier target.

All went well for a while, then Russia (Brian) encouraged me against Turkey but at the same time broke an agreement with me about GAL. This pushed me towards the (somewhat!) willing arms of Nigel, and for a good while it looked like we might have a strong Turkish/Italian alliance. However, his reluctance to finish off Austria and detail future plans made me nervous that I was being set up, and Brian (Russia) came in with a very good offer. So that was it Nigel, sorry, we nearly made it, but your reputation of two Winter Blitz wins went against you this time.

In the meantime there was a bit of tension between me and GP over TYL and the possibility of me assisting him in his attack against France. However, he was not offering very much and insited that if we went ahead, he would be the one to take MAR, and that he would relinquish it once he had taken SPA and POR. Not being of the jam tomorrow brigade I wasnt happy with this, had to guard against his coming into TYL (which in the event he never did do) and so missed taking BUD ahead of Russia.

Once the R/I alliance started it worked well as Germany for some inexplicable reason appeared to pull back from France just as it looked at his mercy... (Would love to know the reasons behind that manoeuvre GP?) and England continued to complicate things in the North.

Turkey was divided amicably between Italy and Russia, and on we went with Russia pressing in the North, myself in the South. I lent a bit of key assistance around MUN, and this helped break Germany down, as although strong, without his home centres there was not a lot he was going to be able to do. We were now down to Russia, Italy and Germany.

Was Russia going to attempt a Solo? Brian as Russia was in a better position than me as Itlay, and the Englisg centres under German control were going to fall to him more quickly than the Franco/iberian ones would for me, but we had an agreement, or so i thought...It was at this point, as i reorganised my forces in the eastern Med that Brian attacked and captured CON. This was the moment. was he going for a Solo? He said not, and fell back to ANK as agreed, and I breathed a sigh of relief.  We just had to swap MUN for BUD and the draw was set up. Without this swap Brain could have got the solo almost at his leisure, so when we did it the game was as good as over.

The last part of the game really was a testament to GP's great defensive work. attacked on all sides by Russia and Italy, he pulled off some daring defences that slowed us down and that might on another occasion have split our alliance, so well done GP.

My thanks to everyone in the game and sure would like to hear your views on how the game progressed.

Good luck to everyone in the second round!

Joe

The end game proposal of Italian/ Russian Draw with a German survival has passed.

Thank you all for playing,  I look forward to everyone's EOGs.  I hope that the players who were eliminated earlier will remember enough of the game to send EOGs also.  This was a very interesting game to watch and I'd love to hear about the game from all of your perspectives.

Good Luck everyone in the 2nd round.

DC230 Fall 02 Extension - 48 Hrs - former.trout   (Mar 23, 2009, 2:40 am)
Heya gang,

Slight hiccup with the Fall 02 results as I only have four of the seven sets in.   Due to my own scheduling difficulties this past weekend, I've decided not to play the meanie like I warned with the last adjudication.  You guys get one more get-out-of-jail-free card.  =)

Since tomorrow night is already way too busy for me for adjudication, we'll reschedule the Fall 02 deadline for Tuesday, March 24th (11:59 PM GMT).  Any order sets not received at that point WILL be awarded an NMR.

Cheers guys,

DC-227 Spring 1916 Adjudication - zeclient   (Mar 22, 2009, 10:17 pm)
Guys,

I just got back from a business trip so I haven't been very responsive lately. Apologies! I did send a message to the GM to let him know, but should have sent one to you as there were a few late minute negotiations that I was not really a part of due to the 24h delay that I did not take into account.
As another note, I will be on another business trip Wednesday and Thursday (Australia time), but that should not impact much on the game.

Regards,

Nick

Hi All,Just a quick note that I have been out of town since Friday AM.  I am just getting to email, but will not be responding to anyone until tomorrow.  So if anyone has said that "Mike told me..." they are lying --- not that any of us would do that!  Smile
Sorry if my silence caused anyone any discomfort.

DC-244 Another Map Point of Contention - TheWhiteWolf   (Mar 22, 2009, 3:00 pm)
Folks,
Sam has brought another bit of confusion to my attention. On the DipWiki, Russia is listed as starting in Warsaw, and Moscow is neutral. I'm going with my version on this, in which Russia starts in Moscow, and Warsaw is neutral.
I believe that this stems from the fact that the DipWiki doesn't seem to mesh with DC quite as well as we could hope. The DipWiki has the same information for this variant as is listed in the "Info" tab in RealPolitik, including calling Russia by that name. However, the DC site lists Russia as "Poland-Lithuania." That's incorrect, according to the variant designer, who lists PL as a minor power with no SCs (just there for informational purposes.) If we consider that PL is a minor power, and call Russia by it's proper name, that would leave Warsaw neutral at game start, as Warsaw is in Poland.

Hope this clears that issue up,
The White Wolf

P.S. - Sam, make sure you put the game number in the subject line of your emails from now on, or I'll delete them without reading. That's my policy.

Folks,
As some of you know things have been pretty hectic in my house lately. The kids and I came down with a horrible stomach virus that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. The kids and I are finally better but we just received word that my husband is being sent back to his home base a few days earlier. That leaves me little less then a week to get packed, find us a truck and an apartment in San Antonio. During this time Stephen Lytton will be taking over GMing for you go so all orders from now on are to be sent to stevelytton(at)hotmail.com.
As soon as we get into San Antonio and we get settled I will take back over. Stephen will be setting a new deadline I believe. Have fun guys and take care. I'll be back in about 2 -3 weeks.. ( hopefully 2! )
