DC236 Winter Blitz Board 6 - Fall 07 - Corrected S... - former.trout   (Feb 27, 2009, 2:05 pm)
Heya all,

Serves me right for trusting RealPolitik and its status...  My thanks to those players who have corrected my center count.  Net result is that Russia only builds 2 and England has no need to disband.

The corrected adjustments are below.  I'll delay adjudication a few hours tonight to compensate for the confusion...

Austria:    0 Supply centers,  0 Units:  Builds   0 units.
England:    5 Supply centers,  5 Units:  Builds 0 units.
France:     0 Supply centers,  0 Units:  Builds   0 units.
Germany:    3 Supply centers,  6 Units:  Removes  3 units.
Italy:     15 Supply centers, 12 Units:  Builds   3 units.
Russia:    11 Supply centers,  9 Units:  Builds   2 units.
Turkey:     0 Supply centers,  1 Unit:   Removes  1 unit.

Apologies for the mix-up everyone.

dc 243 Dead line stuff - agwopa   (Feb 27, 2009, 1:33 pm)
Ok the deadline of March 6th 22:00 or 10 pm GMT.
How this works is.... sometime with in 24 hours after the deadline I will start to adjudicate, up until I start to adjudicate you may, if you are lucky, and the timing is just right, I might take last second changes. Once I start sorting things out I will send out an E- mail stating "Turn Closed" . Seeing how this is my first game as GM I will be excited about doing this so I anticipate that quickly after 22:00 GMT. This turn is 22:00 GMT , As we have players around the world it will be moving around the world 22:00 on the East coast of the USA and 22:00 CST USA and 22:00 Eastern Aussie Time. This is not the order just an example it will depend on who still is in the game etc.. the consistent part will be the 22:00 or 10 pm time.
Pre-lims , Orders and NMR's (No Moves Received)
NMR's are bad.. Very bad.. you will not like it when it happens in the game its a drag for all. And if it happens to you, all your units hold unsupported. A second NMR and we find replacement players and the game drags on.. If a player is on there way out it does mean allot to the rest of the remaining players that you play it out till the end. There is a style factor that I have always respected as a player when an unattainable situation stays and plays out the hand dealt. OK enough of that you get the idea.
When sending orders and any notes to me, the subject line needs dc243, country, year, season,
Pre-lims, Send me something shortly after the adjudication, This will cut down on NMR's for something is better than nothing. And it is fresh on your mind so you can see if your first instincts are what you end up with. Even if alliances change it is usually better to move than hold unsupported. You can change them up till the deadline. And you can change several times if you need, I will mark them received or with a "got em' " and the last set I get is what I will use.
Good luck to all, have a wonderful game, and most of all smile and have fun it is a game and you do this for the challenge and the entertainment. Some will be out before others and that is the way it goes... no big deal just sign up for another game and do it again!!!!!!
After all it is 'A Grim World Of Perilous Adventure" so enjoy.

DC 211: F1907 Adjudcation - AceRimmer   (Feb 27, 2009, 1:11 pm)
Well, well, well… Everybody’s going to Berlin. I don’t think I’ve ever adjudicated a failed 3-on-5 assault before (though I did observe a 1-on-1-on-1-on-1-on-1 bounce in another game recently). However, something tells me that the party is not over just yet. Indeed, like John F. Kennedy, y’all want to be Berliners. Meet me at the Reichstag.

There is one retreat with one option. I have taken the liberty of adjudicating it:

Italian Army Rome retreats to Tuscany.

There are plenty of adjustments for everybody, and is it just me, or has Russia been playing a unit short for awhile (ever since he waived a build in W1905)? Folks, it pays to double check your GMs handiwork!

But first… now is the time on Seismic when we dance. Seismic orders will be due on Monday with adjustments falling on Tuesday.

Austria:
A Pie -> Rom
A Ven S Pie -> Rom
A Apu S Pie -> Rom
A Tyl S Ber
A Vie S Ber
A Ber S Tyl (*Cut*)
A Con -> Bul
A Smy Hold
A Gre Hold

England:
A Ruhr -> Berlin (*Fails 3:5 to A Ber*)
F Gulf of Bothnia -> Baltic Sea
A Norway -> Denmark
F Denmark -> North Sea
F Norwegian Sea -> Norway
F North Atlantic Support Nrg -> Nwy

France:
A Kie S A Nwy - Den
A Hol S A Ruh - Ber
A Mun S A Ruh - Ber
F NAf - Tun (ec)
F MAt S F NAf - Tun (ec)
F Spa - NAf
F Tys - Spa (sc)
A Bur S A Hol

Italy:
A Rom S F Nap H (*Cut*; *Dislodged 3:1 by A Pie*)

F Wes - Ion

Russia:
A Fin S A Swe
a mos s a stp
a stp s a swe
a swe s a stp
a pru s a ber
a war s a ber
f bla - con

In the Winter, Builds will be (not including any retreats off the board):

SC Builds/Disbands
Austria 10 +1
England 5 -1
France 10 +2
Italy 1 -2
Russia 8 +1

Not to disparage because he WAS filling in while I was getting knee-deep into birthday cheer but I didn't do the retreat phase. I didn't auto-retreat after the Fall adjudication because there were multiple retreats needed [not just one]. Sorry for the confusion and that I was unclear in my Fall orders that previous turn.

Garry,

My complaint is about the last turn. The ONLY option for retreat was to WAR (like BER now). But instead of retreating to WAR you disbanded the army.
The case is exactly similar here and now you retreat the unit !?
One time you retreat, one time you disband J Do you throw dice ?

Laurence,
In this case, the ONLY option for a retreat was to Ber. There was no other retreat available. And, given that the only build location was also Berlin if you retreated OTB, I chose to move you to Berlin and give you the option of telling me you would rather build a F. If you can spot a place that you had an option for a retreat, please let me know. The program that adjudicates is usually spot on but, because it requires my human input, could render an error if I made a mistake.

#yiv1245961621 DIV { MARGIN:0px;} Swedish Press:

The Swedish Ambassador to Russia approached the media with a statement addressing outlandish Russian accusations of aggression on Sweden's behalf. "Of course these half-truths should be taken with a grain of salt. It was Russia's own attempted advance into the Gulf despite fervent requests from Sweden's diplomatic corp to do otherwise that prompted Sweden's rush to her own self-defense. Coupled with numerous reports of Russian perfidy in regards to Sweden's best interest have left Sweden in a position where pre-emptive invasion was sadly necessary. Should Russia choose to control her "cubs" and behave in a more civilized fashion then Sweden would be more willing to keep to her rocky, meatless shores."

A&E 090205 / DC240: Fall 1763 adjudicated - Sturmkraehe   (Feb 27, 2009, 11:12 am)
Swedish Press:

Laurence,
In this case, the ONLY option for a retreat was to Ber.

Garry,

You are not logical with yourself.
Last turn you OTBed my army of GAL instead of retreating it to WAR (the only choice) and now it’s the same case and you automatically retreat her. ?!

Anyway I keep the retreat to BER

Italy in RESURGENCE!
Successful Turn for F/I/A? You Be the Judge.
What an Evenly Matched Game.

All,
Germany only had one retreat from Munich [Berlin]. I took it. That means that he has no builds. He could of course retreat OTB and build in Berlin but I would bet good money on it being an army! If he wishes otherwise, please submit as such.

Other than that we have no retreats. We have 1 remove [England] and 2 builds for Italy. That concludes business for the Fall.

PLEASE SEND ORDERS TO THE ORDER BOX. I AM OUT OF TOWN TOMORROW NIGHT AND CANNOT ADJUDICATE. I AM BACK FOR MONDAY'S DEADLINE.

Winter due at 5pm CST tomorrow. Fearless Trout will handle the unit adjustments tomorrow.

Thanks.

There are macros inside the file. However, they are not usable without the companion GameEngine file, which contains all of the "guts" of the adjudication engine. So, you can turn macros off, as they don't do anything.

A&E 090205 / DC240: There was high drama all over Europe, and it was clearly a very active diplomatic season. The Prussian army left Hanover of its own accord, and found a new home in Mecklenburg. Spain succeeded in their bold capture of Marseille, while their Austrian ally had the most success with 3 gains. The Baltic powers were frustrated, with Denmark-Norway, Sweden, and Russia all not gaining a SC in year 1. I was interested to see Denmark's audacious strategy of going for Koenigsberg, although it did not quite meet with success. Turning to the subject of my other article, Turkey clearly read it, as they implemented my strategy of convoying an army to Tunis in Fall 1763 as discussed in the "Master of the Maghreb" section. We'll see how it goes! Finally, Frank's performance this fall was the most impressive, particularly given the circumstances. A potentially disastrous situation was salvaged, with Hanover retained and both Portugal and the Netherlands gained. Again, my best wishes go out to Frank and his father.

Here is our deadline schedule:

Fall 1763 Retreat: Fri 2/27
Winter 1763 Adjustment: Mon 3/2
Spring 1764: Thu 3/5

We need one retreat order, for the French army in Marseille.

I'm very happy to see another rich set of press. That will be followed by the adjudication. Also, I have attached a History file that is an Excel document. It contains past seasons, standings, and a number of other summary exhibits. If you are not able to open the file, do not worry, as it is not necessary to the game.

1.) I am hoping that 'multiple failures of diplomacy' on my part will not lead to anything similar to the battle described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Copenhagen_(1801) And if such a battle is to be fought, 1801 sounds like a good time for it ...

Press #1: Britain

Press: AP London: Seeing loved ones in hospitals sucks.

Press #2 (Russia)

Russia to Turkey: As you will see, I have acted in good faith along our Southern border.

Russia to Sweden: It appears your claimed desire for Courland was merely a ruse, but do not doubt that I am prepared to defend my homeland as a bear defends her cubs. Sweden may not be a meaty target, but Russia is a target with claws and a bite. You have attacked the wrong nation.

Press #3: Danish Press

1.) I am hoping that 'multiple failures of diplomacy' on my part will not lead to anything similar to the battle described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Copenhagen_(1801) And if such a battle is to be fought, 1801 sounds like a good time for it ...

2.) As controller of the Baltic, I deem that taxes will be imposed upon all cities touching that sea. We expect diplomacy point patronage from those with interests here, and if the City of Mecklenberg still remains free, we intend to make to make it very expensive. Those who fail to comply will be sent barrel loads of salted herring.

Garry,

You are not logical with yourself.
Last turn you OTBed my army of GAL instead of retreating it to WAR (the only choice) and now it’s the same case and you automatically retreat her. ?!

Anyway I keep the retreat to BER

DIPYCORP PRESS RELEASES
Repeat Of Spring Press:
        Austria -> Turkey:
I need to remove France from my border.  I hope we can
    continue living in Peace.
    Austria -> Russia:
Your move to Gal is understandable, but I hope only in
retaliation for my previous move there.  I have retreated.
I hope you follow suit this turn.  I will not attack in the
Spring, so I hope we can leave it empty.
    Austria -> Italy:
I've got your back.  As long as we both fight France, we
    should work well together.
    King Edward-
The Russian people's thanks knows no bounds for your
understanding of our plight. We are delighted that you see
how we, the russian people only want what is best for this
continent. To this extent, we have removed our army from
Austrian territory, although we were not aware that the
    austrians considered it theirs.
-Your Friend, the Tsar of Russia
    Emperor Franz Joseph-
We, the Russian people, were not aware you clung so
perilously to Galicia, indeed, we were not aware of your
claim to it. However, we now recognize said claim, and have
withdrawn our army. The Russian people are not your enemy,
    Emperor, but your friend.
    -Tsar Nicholas II of Russia
BAVARIA TO BREAK WITH HOHENZOLLERNS, UNITE WITH HAPSBURGS,
    ORLEANS
    By GEORG SCHMID
MUNICH — Mere months after the ousting of French troops
from the Hofbrauhaus, another group of foreigners are
making news in the Bavarian Capital.  For the last three
nights the Nymphemburg Palace has hosted emissaries from
the Austrian monarch in secret conversations with key
members of the Wittelsbach Dynasty and Bavarian Parliament.
Also rumored to be among the delegation was a
representative from the French king.  It has become
increasingly apparent that the Prussian Kaiser’s hold on
the Kingdom of Bavaria is taking a more abusive and
usurious direction since the insane King Ludwig II pledged
loyalty to the new pan-German Empire not three decades past
(a movement never intended to include Austrians).
The return to alliance with Austria (and the newly restored
Orleans dynasty) makes perfect sense.  First, Austria has a
long history of friendship with Bavaria, but not with
Prussia.  Second, the Catholic Faith binds the countries in
calling and identity.  Third, France and Austria have the
military capability to liberate the Free State, and Bavaria
has the wealth to make it worth their effort.  French
support of an Austrian attack is virtually guaranteed
    success.
Further, with the Prussian emperor so concerned with costly
expeditions to the Northwest, there is little he could do
to win back either the Wittelsbachs or the Bavarian
    territory from an Austrian-French occupation.
        Austria Surrounded.  Italians, needing additional
forces to defeat the French, threaten Trieste.  A
French army in Bohemia is on the doorstep of Vienna.
Russians in Galicia near Budapest.  Turkish forces have
secured key positions on the Eastern Front (Serbia is
suddenly abandoned and vulnerable) and will soon be
pouring out into the Mediterranean.  The lack of
diplomatic contact between the Ottoman Sultan and the
German Kaiser or English King signals that the Turkish
conquest of Russia will occur through Austria.
    Key recommendations:
Rethink the Eastern strategy.  A Russian attack from
Galicia into Rumania is likely and if combined by support
from Budapest and a move toward Bulgaria by the navy in
Greece would guarantee either expulsion of the Turk from
Sevastopol or Rumania.  Limiting Ottoman power now is your
only hope for long term containment.
    or
Take Trieste.  The Italians are in no position to defend
themselves, nor are the French or Germans able to launch
any kind of effectual campaign.  The Italians are likely to
attempt another move toward Piedmont to advance their
Western border, with their naval advantage encouraging a
    campaign deep into Iberia.

To the King of Prussia, His Imperial and Royal Majesty,
    Kaiser Wilhelm II:
From the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Ireland, His Royal Highness Edward VII
    Dear William,
Your congratulations and acceptance of our opinions on
Europe’s future are our great sense of joy!  We do insist
on making clear that it is not a surrogate we seek on the
Continent, but a partner.  As we stated before, your
influence in the Low Countries is natural, considerable,
and proper.  We are directing our navies to support your
navy from the Netherlands to Belgium.  Consider this our
pledge of good faith.  This cooperation would be cemented
by your agreement to build no more navies.  We will respect
your territorial waters as an enduring testimony of our
    fraternity and respect.
Your Own Uncle and Your Friend, Bertie

OK Drew- thanks setting me a challenge. This is going to get bloody folks. I suggest you evacuate civilians from the following areas, because the Russians are coming: Trieste, Greece, Bulgaria, Kiel, Holland, Edinburgh, London, Belgium.

I only need to secure 2 centres from that list of 8 targets.

.ExternalClass .EC_hmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.EC_hmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} There is a proposal to end the game.

The proposed victory condition are:
Russia, solo victory

All active players have a vote, and the vote must be unanimous (am I spelling this right?). If you don't vote then it is considered a no. We follow the house rules... found here:

Votes are due with Fall, in one week. As always, if orders are all clearly marked as final, I can adjudicate early.
