Recruiting For Playtest/Demo Game of New Variant - david_e_cohen   (Oct 30, 2008, 6:10 am)
This will be, as noted in the subject line, a playtest, which will also be a Demo Game in the Diplomacy World Zine. Nick Higgins will be GMing, and there will be an elite roster--I already have a bunch of ACD players. If you want to play, I will either need to know you, or you will probably need to give me references as to your reliability and skill. We are looking to start late this year. I would suggest that the deadlines will be fairly leisurely.

Here is the latest map: http://diplomiscellany.tripod.com/id20.html

For those of you looking for differences from the previous version of this variant, there is more fluidity, especially around the edges, but the removal of Italy as a Power opens up the middle as well. Lots of small changes for balancing purposes.

Let me know if you are interested, at zendip18 AT optonline DOT net.

DC 211: S1902Seismic - AceRimmer   (Oct 29, 2008, 8:56 pm)
Well, as usual, I don't have my whole act together. It turns out there was not one, but TWO misorders... makes me wonder about this whole let-them-fly-on-their-own policy I'm implementing. But all of that's straightened out now. Seven solid orders received. All successful. Two isthmuses (isthmi?) created. One strait, one canal. Curiously, two S1901 seismic orders were reversed.

I emailed myself the adjudication and the adjusted map... except I emailed the wrong map, so... Here's the adjudication. I'll send the map in the morning.

Austria:
Split Tun / Eme; Join Ion / edge

England:
Please split Hel/Bal and join Den/Kiel (create strait)

France:
Wmed and MAO separate, Spa and NAf connect
Put a canal in Spa only (so that NAf has multiple coasts
but Spain's current south coast is not split into two coasts)

Germany:
Bur and Ruh Separate; Mun and Hol connect

Italy:
Swi/Pie disconnect Tyl/Mar connect.

Russia:
Split Fin and GOB, Connect Sweden and StP

Turkey:
rum/edge connect; sev/black split

Diplomatic Corp game re005 is now DC-218 - packrat   (Oct 29, 2008, 3:28 pm)
Okay folks - our game has been moved from recruiting to active
and given number 218 so that is the number to use in the subject
line for orders and stuff.

I have 6 sets of information on hand so I am missing one set.
I will make assignments Thursday night and have the first orders
due a week from Monday - 11/10/08 at 2100.

Addendum to the information I sent out the other day:

I am going to run this with one week or so deadlines.
There will NOT be anything due on the weekends.
If a deadline falls on a Friday, retreats/adjustments will be due Monday.
Adjustments will be due WITH the retreats. If this is a problem let me know
but I see no reason it should be.
I will NMR per the prior published information.
Retreats/adjustments will be due 24 hours after the results are posted so please be ready.
The default retreat will be OTB.
THERE WILL BE NO GRACE PERIOD ON RETREATS OR ADJUSTMENTS.
Adjudications or a status will generally take place within 2-4 hours of the deadline.
If you do not hear from me within 24 hours feel free to email and remind me.

Subject: Diplomatic Corp game re005

Greetings Gentlemen -
I have 7 and have asked for the game to be moved from recruiting to Active.
Once that happens the number we will be given MUST be in the subject line
on ALL game related correspondence that goes between us. Before we get
going I need a few things and have some things you need to know.

First, what I need to know:

1. Country preferences, in order of preference
2. Your location and time zone - this helps when I set deadlines
3. Timezone (I'm too lazy to look up the info from 2)
4. Any alternate emails or means of communication in case your primary email isn't working.
This may also be used if no orders are received.
5. Whether you have weekend access to your email - also for setting deadline.

Second, what you need to know:

1. There will usually be 24 hour notice prior to the deadline
2. *IF* that does not happen and orders are missing I will extend 24 hours and contact the player.
3. If no orders are received within 24 hours of the deadline I *WILL* NMR you.
4. IF there is a second NMR the game will be placed on hold and you WILL be replaced.
5. Generally speaking I try to be very flexible so as to keep the game moving. If you need
an extension, ask.
6. NO extensions will be granted at or after the deadline.
7. The subject line on ALL orders MUST contain the following:
7a) Game number, Country, season, and year. I don't care about the order
8. BE SURE you change the subject line when replying to results with the next
seasons orders.

The game ends under one of three conditions (slightly different than the DC house rules)

1. One player attains 18 or more centers.
2. ALL players with centers vote one player a solo.
3. DIAS - ALL players with centers (not necessarily units) share in a draw.

If you have ANY questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask me.

So hard to choose! Variants are inhernetly interesting cuz of the variety, however it comes... I guess I tend to lean toward variants that involve a new map, but keep the core rules of Diplomacy relatively unchanged.

DC 217, Our number and a deadline - alwayshunted   (Oct 28, 2008, 11:18 pm)
Hello folks! Our game number is DC 217. Please use this in the subject line for all messages to me.

Our first deadline is one week from now, Tuesday, November 4 2008, 22:00 Mountain Time. That's November 5 at 0400 GMT. There's a time change from daylight savings coming up at some point..... not sure when, but don't worry, I won't let it mess anyone up.

If there is an nmr in the first year (spring or fall 1901) then the game will not be adjudicated and a replacement for the culprit will be sought immediately. The replacement will be given a chance to get involved in the game and submit orders for that turn. After that, an nmr will always stand as an nmr, and two in a row gets you kicked out.

I've attached the maps this time.... no really, they're there......

I appreciate people that send in preliminary orders. You can change your orders at any time up to the specified deadline, and in my case I'll accept them up to the moment that I open my mail account with the intention of adjudicating the turn. I may adjudicate early if and only if I receive ALL orders from all players CLEARLY MARKED AS FINAL ORDERS. So far it's only ever happened on a retreat phase.....

I think that's everything. Don't hesitate to ask me questions if you have them.

Cheers,

Warren

DC 217, Our number and a deadline (dc217) alwayshunted Nov 04, 04:07 pm
Hi all,

Just a quick note to inform you all that there was indeed a time change in my locale last Sunday morning, so we are now on Mountain Standard Time instead of Mountain Daylight Time. I am now GMT minus seven instead of minus six.

Basically it means that the deadline I have posted on the club site and in my original e-mail is out by an hour, so adjudication will occur at 0500 GMT on Wednesday (22:00 MST on Tuesday night). Shouldn't be a problem as it gives you all an extra hour.....

The adjudication should occur very shortly after the deadline for this turn, so get your orders in or make your last minute changes..... Seven hours to go.

Cheers,

Warren
DC215 Spring 1902 Results - MattTheLesser   (Oct 28, 2008, 9:38 pm)
Spring 1902 is one big bounce in the east as literally no unit east of
the stalemate line successfully moves. A little bit (but not much) more
happens in the west as Germany moves a fleet out and Russia shifts his
northern units around a bit.

The most eventful move of the season results in our first retreat of the
game, which I cannot process because England has so many options;
English F MAO may retreat to NAO, Iri, Gas, Wmed, or NAf. German,
please have the retreat to me by 9 pm eastern tomorrow (Oct. 29). For
everyone else, Fall 1902 will be due this coming Monday, November 3, at
9 pm eastern.

DC176 - Summer 1914 adjudication - bielf11   (Oct 28, 2008, 9:23 pm)
Summer 1914 retreats:
--------------------------------
- Austrian A PIE - VEN
- Russian A STP - FIN

Brings us to Fall 1914.
Will we see a very different Europe at end of the year now that Austria had to give up Piedmont and that Russia had to withdraw from its home turf?
Are we going into a new era with the Austrian Empire giving way to the French empire?
Will the Italians be able to maintain their cat-and-mouse game with the Austrians?
Can't wait to see.
Deadline for Fall orders is Monday Nov 3 at 23:00 GMT.

Map and RP DPY file are attached.

The DPY and other RP files I will sent along with the Winter adjustments. I reckon you don't really need RP to plan your builds/disbands.
WARNING: when using the DPY files I provided to go back in history, you will see that the maps no longer align with the history played. This is the result of tweaking the maps and SC counts to incorporate the Scorched Earth rules. For history you will have to go back to earlier DPY files or the maps provided.
