Nope.. Still not getting any better at writing those.. *sigh*
The board stays awash with action in Spring 1869 as some trends continue unbroken and yet one or two small surprises find their way into the mix of things. Only two nations were untouched by either retreat or disband - China and the US. Retreats are required from Austria, France, Japan and Russia. We'll set the Summer 1869 deadline for Monday, February 25th (11:59 PM GMT).
Please just let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers folks!

DC125 Iraq EOG - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
I'll start out with a congratulations to Sims for his victory and thanks to all for a well played game. Now on to some analysis.
When I found out that I would be Iraq and studied my situation, I realized the inequities of the map. I figured that either one of three things would happen: I would fight with Iran and win OR I would fight against Iran and Israel and face a precarious situation OR I would find some sort of common ground with Iran and make my way to Israel.
I threw out offers to both Iran and Israel, and waited to see responses. A lot of talking occurred prior to the first season and I was concerned of the potential that Israel and Iran would attack me. I was also very concerned about the Russia situation. If John focused only on Trout, then I would really be up the creek. I figured that my best shot was to offer Israel Damascus and concentrate on Iran with the hope that Sims would agree to move north. I posed offers to John but he was a bit out of this game and ultimately CDed.
When things worked out with Israel, it was a hop skip and jump to Tehran (no offense to Ray). The map is extremely unfavorable to Iran and Turkey. I posed offers to Trout to ignore Ray and me and simply focus on Israel. Trouts sacrifice of a build in Fall 2002 to help Ray was a major decision point for Turkey. While things may not have ended much differently for Trout had he neglected support for Iran, he would have been in better shape with regards to unit numbers. He might have been able to hold ADA.
Once we were arriving near EOG, I realized that I was outmatched in the north by Sims and was becoming increasingly concerned with his movements. I figured that the South and middle were settled and that I could force a draw if Sims did not intend to keep our original plan. I simply needed 4 units in the North. I had three in the North and Trout was down to 1 in Krakow. I offered him twice the opportunity to draw the game with me to stop what I believed was Sims plan to solo. He refused in what I believe was spite or indifference to Sims solo. Then, he helped Sims along in the solo. A few turns later, EOG.
Now for recommendations:
I agree that the Arabian Desert should be opened up and turned into Saudi Arabia. However, I do not feel that the map itself should be expanded. There is more than enough room to place 5 SCs in the desert plus a number of empty spots. I think Saudi Arabia should be closer to Israel than Iraq. Iran and Iraq are already on top of each other and Israel is pretty much isolated with a ton of SCs around it.
I do not agree with adding Egypt to the map or the full Mediterranean to the Map. At that point you almost have to add in Greece, Italy, etc and then its no longer a MIDEAST map.
In terms of units, BAS and TEH should both be armies. I do not think that Iran should have an army in AZE. Iran should start with an Army in either ELB or ISF instead.
In terms of SCs, there are too few on the map. I am not advocating turning every spot into an SC, but the number of open SCs to start the game in the North is 4. This pales in comparison to the 7 in the South. If UZB and KAZ were partitioned, something could be added there. An SC in ARM or partitioning TRA into two countries and placing an SC in Eastern TRA would be meaningful. An SC in CRE might help.
Finally, the situation with CYP should be fixed. Either by adding more bodies of water or by shifting the bodies of water so that two hit CYP.
Good Luck and thanks for a fun game.

DC103 - Spring 1915 - Resurrection Men - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Heya gang,
The attrition continues as two more of Turkey's armies succomb to the onslaught. Faced with impossible odds, the Constantinople and Bulgarian forces give up the ghost. Meanwhile, French forces walk into even more centers on their road to European domination...
Two disbands but no retreats means we move along into the Fall turn. I'll set the deadline for Tuesday, February 26th (11:59 PM GMT). Please let me know if that doesn't work for you - or if you spot any errors with this adjudication...
Cheers!

DC129 In Rainbows - Winter 1906 - A Punch-Up At A... - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
it's a drunken punch-up at a wedding yeah
oh no no
--------------------------------------------
No wedding is a good one without at least a couple of fist-fights.. and in that tradition Germany pops in another fresh army looking for a scrap... and finds Russia with two fresh units of his own. France adds to the mix with a southern fleet, while England disbands in the north and Austria says goodbye to Eastern ambitions.
It looks interesting for the Spring turn, folks. Deadline will be set for Wednesday, February 27th (11:59 PM GMT).

Hey guys I’ll suggest a concession to E/R here. Their progress is eventual and unavoidable in time, but it’ll take another 20 turns to play out naturally. A 2-way draw cant be improved on by getting more centers… only by getting a solo, so it’s the 2nd best result possible. There is no point to the game, as it’s just a controlled fallback over the next 20 or so turns. So what do you all want?
I’ll vote yes.

In Tyrolia we'll beat you
Said Green, and Yellow too
But the White
Kept smiling bright
Knowing Marseilles would turn bright blue

Hey gang, thanks for the patience during that minor delay. Onwards we move into the Spring turns, where Turkey and Italy indeed team up to overpower the Tsar in Tyrolia. However, the tag team duo gets out-muscled in turn as England bulldogs their way into Marseilles.
Only one retreat from the Spring moves, but it was an automatic disband with no valid retreat. In Marseilles, of course, the Italian met a bitter end. With that, Fall 1913 approaches - we'll set the deadline for Tuesday, February 26th (11:59 PM GMT).
As always, please let me know if you spot any mistakes. Cheers!

Once Within: s01 all out! - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
You should have your s01 results and map!
You may have discovered a new type of supply center… the Eternal Build centers. Standard centers are the typical Circle-Dot, and are normal supply centers. However there are a few Eternal Build centers, marked by a larger symbol, a square with a plus thru it. These centers may be built in by any player, any time! (provided it’s vacant, under your control, etc)
Fall ’01 will be due: Next Friday Feb 29, 2pm Pacific!
Enjoy,

Hey guys I’ll suggest a concession to E/R here. Their progress is eventual and unavoidable in time, but it’ll take another 20 turns to play out naturally. A 2-way draw cant be improved on by getting more centers… only by getting a solo, so it’s the 2nd best result possible. There is no point to the game, as it’s just a controlled fallback over the next 20 or so turns. So what do you all want?
I’ll vote yes.

dc146 w07 builds! - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Gentlemen,
I apologize for my absence, I had a family emergency that involves my daughter needing surgery. There was also an incident at work that required my immediate attention (a piece of important equipment was discovered to be unaccounted for so the unit had to go into lock-down). I will continue as best I can, but with my daughter will obviously take priority until the problem is resolved.
I guess any aspirations for world domination in real life will have to fall on the shoulders of those with no kids...huh?
Thank you for understanding,
Tory

Everyone keeps asking that.. =P
Gents, as per my house rules I always give every vote the full amount of time allotted. This covers things in case of events like changed minds or last-minute negotiations.
Hang in there.. Monday will be here before you know it.. But yeah, please everyone make sure to turn in a set of Fall orders.
Thanks,

DC153 Winter 1903 Results - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
We inch closer to 34 units, as only Holland's supplies are now unused...
Spring 1904 is due this coming Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 9 pm eastern.
Prelims are always a good idea, especially if you're France or Austria
and have no grace! I will try to make sure to send a 24 hour reminder
email (my fault for slacking on it a bit recently), but I wouldn't rely
on it completely.
Matt
Adjustments:
England: Build F Lpl
Germany: Build A Ber
Turkey: Disband A Arm

why no map? - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Why do we not have a map when you toggle onto the game, under active games?

Re: why no map? - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Because there has been no adjudication yet! There will be once s01 happens. I guess we should change this so the standard starting map shows in the interim.
Why do we not have a map when you toggle onto the game, under active games?

Hey all,
France proves slippery...but is he enough of a magician to break the AGI?
No move from Russia but he remains in the game per Blitz rulez. Also, 'cause we're blitzing, I need retreat(s) and builds by TOMORROW 6pm PST.
