BUILDS due Thursday, tho I will post any time I have a full set.
Tho I may or may not state this in the future, any retreat or build phase can be released early, unless you specifically mark orders prelim or ask me to hold till the deadline. This is just to keep the game moving on these minor turns.
You will NOT get a new map for Winter – 2 maps per year: Spring and Fall. I’ll tell you what you build, and if you see any other units pop up, I’ll tell you that too, tho no new map will be forthcoming.
Enjoy!

Dc159 No France - annoyed GM - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Dear Players of Dc159.
I have received no moves or email communication from France. Needless to say i am annoyed.
As per my house rules, I will seek a replacement in 1901 so I have to 'rest' this game whilst I seek a replacement France. However if i do not get a new France by Thursday of next week (Thursday 13th) i shall be continuing the game without a France but still will actively seek someone.
This also gives our elusive France, Matt, a chance to get moves in or explain his disappearance.
I apologise to all. At the moment your fall 1901 moves are in but are considered fluid (ie you can change them if you want to)

Hey gang,
Apologies for not getting this out sooner. Your humble GM was side-swiped by a giant bottle of whiskey, tied to a chair and forced to endure several hours of excessive consumption.
In any case, Fall 09 orders are due in just under 10 hours. I have most sets in hand, but am still awaiting a couple more.

dc133 To Heir is Over! - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Same to you, man. And Dom, appreciate the strong alliance after you jumped into the middle of the game. Thanks to everyone for playing a great game.
Well, my game pretty well revolved around France's stab into the channel to start. That was the one agreement I'd worked hard to get set from the start - a Channel DMZ. Once that went down, it was pretty much necessary for me to work out an alliance with Germany, whatever he might require.
And fortunately for me, Germany was a reliable and trusting ally - perhaps a little TOO trusting to be honest, as most Dip players (I'm sure Mike was seething watching the seasons go by) would have taken the opportunity of having a secure position, 5 fleets, and Germany occupied in the east to effect a brutal stab. But I simply don't like to repay trust with betrayal, and so we remained in a strong alliance till the end.
Bit hairy there though as France moved an army onto Wales and nearly captured one of my home centers, but Italy's timely intervention and Germany's continued support saved my bacon. From there I worked to repay my allies' trust and complete my primary objective in the game, which was to eliminate France in repayment for his game opening stab. Took a while thanks to the damn corner position, but it all worked out.
From there, well, as Italy and Germany were allies, Russia was the only avenue of expansion left. And with Austria's NMR there was nothing holding Germany back, so it was fairly certain Russia would fall. And that was pretty much the game, aside from a few season's bickering over the nature of the final draw, which ended as Turkey NMRed which brought Italy, grudgingly, in to our side to effect the final assault, and force the draw.
Again, thanks for all of you for playing a fun game, and to Mike for GMing, even as I'm sure he was tearing his hair out in hopes of a grand stab from SOMEBODY.
Andrew

Heh, nice job Andrew and Dom. It was fun playing with you guys, and with the others too. Mike, thanks for GMing.
I think Germany and England built up a nice relation based on trust. I don't know if it had anything to do with me playing for the first time, but it worked out very well. France kept fighting till the end, and so did Russia. I liked the fast pace, but when I joined another diplomacy game in the meantime (where I'm now dead) it was becoming a bit too much for me, though I gave priority to this game.
Although I liked this game, I'm not sure if I'm going to play more diplomacy games. As you might know, I played a lot of mafia games, which are comparable with diplomacy because it's based on discussion too, and it takes almost as long as these games (the larger ones, that is). And I like playing mafia more, also because I find it easier to discuss things on a forum and not via email. If I'm going to play diplomacy again: see you next time. Else: it was nice playing with you.

Standings:

5th: Russia (Will), Eliminated 07
6th: France (Alex): Eliminated 06
7th: Austria (Gaius): Civil Disorder 05
Congrats to all - especially the final trio! Hope to see you in another game soon, and if any of you are interested in trying on the GM hat let me know... we always need willing souls to run games -- it's probly a lot less effort than you think. Hopefully everyone will have some thoughts to put into an EGS (end-game statement) and send to the group. Just to share all the dirt that's transpired throughout.
A fast game, only 120 days, a bit under 4 months... Keeping to our quick pace that we set early on, it was only 15 days per year... whereas most games tend to run about 20+ days per year. What's your take on the quicker pace?
Enjoy!

Guns, Germs and Steel DIAS Proposal - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Thats funny...I didn't get Russias original message.
But this is what I would have said...
In one single email Russia called for an attack on Holland...and vowed to come after China.
I can understand when your on the receiving end feeling bitter about not getting my back end...but I don't see as China had much choice.
True though..."the game is done"...from Russias point of view.
Don't worry, I'll make it as painless as possible.

dc133 To Heir is Over! EGS Italy - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Hello to All
Thanks to Mike for his excellent gming. I really liked the fast pace and would quite happily sign up for another game that moved at the same pace.
A quick EGS - please accept these were my thoughts at the time and are of course entirely unrelated to anybody's real life personalities etc just how I saw the game going. I suppose I started off at a bit of a loose end because of Italy's rep waiting to see what would happen which I think was a mistake. Obviously pleased to see France go North. Less pleased to be attacked twice by Austria who wasted no time. Amused to be invited into an EGI alliance by Germany against Fra - I wrote back saying "yes" and then Germnay wrote back saying he was deciding whether to join the alliance and would let me know - it was his idea - fortunately eventually he decided to join his own alliance.
Meanwhile in the East Turkey was battering Russia for all he was worth and Russia was getting a persecution complex - I was convinced R was doing whatever Austria said, couldn't work out why and was getting frustrated that he wouldn't attack Aus who was making good progress but I suppose you can understand it in the face of Turkey's non-stop aggression combined with his silence or occasional terse communication.
Meanwhile having said I'd join an EGI I was obliged to move against Fra which I was a bit nervous about doing as Aus was still kicking lumps out of me and so I tried to go as slowly as possible but Andrew in Eng showed alot of patience especially with Fra in his scs. Meanwhile begged Ger (my ally) for help with Aus. Got nowhere. Ger did a fantastic "oh Austria assured me that you know what he's doing so no need for me to intervene" - but he's invading my territory - "nothing to worry about" says Ger - With allies like these...So became convinvced that Aus and Ger were in a tight alliance and the EGI was a cover to delude us all. Yet again I was completely wrong but did my hardest diploming work trying to get Fra and Eng to put their differences behind them an attack Ger (sorry Lawrencelot) and Russia and Tur to make up and attack Aus. No luck in the West which in retrospect was a good thing for me but amazingly Russia and Turkey put their differneces behind them (and Dan discovered the lost art of writing letters) and formed a solid alliance against Aus that lasted one whole move (I was very proud of that one move) before Russia decided we couldn't be trusted and went back into his inscrutable shell to be picked apart by my Western allies.
Of course the pivotal event now was Aus going into CD which was a pity even though without it I'd never have a have a part of a draw. After that it was just a process of watching one's allies closely and combining against one's enemies. I was convinced for ages that Lawrencelot was going to go for a solo and be stopped by Andrew in Eng who would then go for one himself but that proved not to be the case - were they both waiting for the other to make the commital move or did it never cross their minds, honourable men that they both doubtless are - we'll never know well unless they tell us - certainly neither of them tried to turn me against the other which I was hoping for for a while. Was quite happy to have a four way draw with T but E and G less convinced and after E's elegant threat (just casually mentioning the different size of our forces and what would happen if...) I decided that my loyalties lay with the strong and stabbed poor Turkey. Sorry, Dan - I felt bad for moments afterwards. And that was it. Pleased to get to a draw especially not having a clue what was going on for much of the time. A very enjoyable game. Thanks to everyone for playing.
All the best
Dom (Italy)

Dc133 (To Heir Is Human) officially ends in the Winter of 08, with a 3-Way-Draw between England, Germany, and Italy!
Standings:
Tied 1st: England (Andrew)
Tied 1st: Germany (Laurens)
Tied 1st: Italy (Dom)
4th: Turkey (Dan), 4-SC Survival
Enjoy!

dc157 Back on Track - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
We are back up to full strength, so lets get rolling again.
Turkey will build a fleet in Smyrna for his winter 1901 build.
Spring 1902 moves will be due by 8pm EST Friday 14 MARCH 2008.
That should give everyone enough time to get acquainted with Jerren / Turkey.
Again, let me remind you to send moves early and change them as needed.

DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Fall 1905 - Stude... - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
You are filled with life's most precious treasure ... Hope!
-----------------------------------------
So says this season's secret fortune. Unfortunately, the springs of hope run dry for Peru as the last two southern centers are gobbled by Cuba. While in turn, the Cuban home centers are snapped up by Florida. Meanwhile, a titanic east / west struggle looms...
One retreat to speak of after the Fall moves... The New York army in Ontario was dislodged but had only Michigan to fall back to so I took the liberty... Rob, if OTB is preferred then please just let me know.
Also, I'd like to thank Alex for helming the Peru forces to the very bitter end. We'll see you in the next one, brother...
Drop me a line if you spot any errors... Winter 05 adjustments will be due Saturday, March 8th (11:59 PM GMT).
Cheers!

Gents,
Turkey makes some interesting moves and the Cossacks capitalize on them. Meanwhile, Germany manages to hold the line.
Fall sees the end of the Italian ambitions. My thanks to Nick for his efforts in this one.
And when the smoke clears from the seasons moves, we find one retreat necessary. The Turkish army in Bulgaria may retreat to Greece or OTB. Deadline for Winter retreats and adjustments will be set for Friday, March 7th (11:59 PM GMT).
Please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!

England and Germany should turn in a removal and build (respectively) in case NTH retreats to EDI. If that happens, then Germany is +1 and England is -1. Given there’s no separate phase, you don’t know ahead of time so be sure to submit conditionally! Likewise Germany may opt to disband NTH and rebuild.
Enjoy,
