Same to you, man. And Dom, appreciate the strong alliance after you jumped into the middle of the game. Thanks to everyone for playing a great game.

Well, my game pretty well revolved around France's stab into the channel to start. That was the one agreement I'd worked hard to get set from the start - a Channel DMZ. Once that went down, it was pretty much necessary for me to work out an alliance with Germany, whatever he might require.

And fortunately for me, Germany was a reliable and trusting ally - perhaps a little TOO trusting to be honest, as most Dip players (I'm sure Mike was seething watching the seasons go by) would have taken the opportunity of having a secure position, 5 fleets, and Germany occupied in the east to effect a brutal stab. But I simply don't like to repay trust with betrayal, and so we remained in a strong alliance till the end.

Bit hairy there though as France moved an army onto Wales and nearly captured one of my home centers, but Italy's timely intervention and Germany's continued support saved my bacon. From there I worked to repay my allies' trust and complete my primary objective in the game, which was to eliminate France in repayment for his game opening stab. Took a while thanks to the damn corner position, but it all worked out.

From there, well, as Italy and Germany were allies, Russia was the only avenue of expansion left. And with Austria's NMR there was nothing holding Germany back, so it was fairly certain Russia would fall. And that was pretty much the game, aside from a few season's bickering over the nature of the final draw, which ended as Turkey NMRed which brought Italy, grudgingly, in to our side to effect the final assault, and force the draw.

Again, thanks for all of you for playing a fun game, and to Mike for GMing, even as I'm sure he was tearing his hair out in hopes of a grand stab from SOMEBODY.

Heh, nice job Andrew and Dom. It was fun playing with you guys, and with the others too. Mike, thanks for GMing.

I think Germany and England built up a nice relation based on trust. I don't know if it had anything to do with me playing for the first time, but it worked out very well. France kept fighting till the end, and so did Russia. I liked the fast pace, but when I joined another diplomacy game in the meantime (where I'm now dead) it was becoming a bit too much for me, though I gave priority to this game.

Although I liked this game, I'm not sure if I'm going to play more diplomacy games. As you might know, I played a lot of mafia games, which are comparable with diplomacy because it's based on discussion too, and it takes almost as long as these games (the larger ones, that is). And I like playing mafia more, also because I find it easier to discuss things on a forum and not via email. If I'm going to play diplomacy again: see you next time. Else: it was nice playing with you.

Dc133 (To Heir Is Human) officially ends in the Winter of 08, with a 3-Way-Draw between England, Germany, and Italy!

Standings:

Tied 1st: England (Andrew)
Tied 1st: Germany (Laurens)
Tied 1st: Italy (Dom)
4th: Turkey (Dan), 4-SC Survival
5th: Russia (Will), Eliminated 07
6th: France (Alex): Eliminated 06
7th: Austria (Gaius): Civil Disorder 05

Congrats to all - especially the final trio! Hope to see you in another game soon, and if any of you are interested in trying on the GM hat let me know... we always need willing souls to run games -- it's probly a lot less effort than you think. Hopefully everyone will have some thoughts to put into an EGS (end-game statement) and send to the group. Just to share all the dirt that's transpired throughout.

A fast game, only 120 days, a bit under 4 months... Keeping to our quick pace that we set early on, it was only 15 days per year... whereas most games tend to run about 20+ days per year. What's your take on the quicker pace?

Enjoy!
-mike

Diplomacy games may contain lying, stabbing, or deliberately deceiving communications that may not be suitable for and may pose a hazard to young children, gullible adults, and small farm animals.
