Subject: dc151 s05 results! - Every space...

Every space in England is now occupied as Russians take shore in Clyde and England is dislodged to York... German uboats are rumored to be in the Channel, and Turkey gets stuffed out of their capital...

Meanwhile life in Trieste remains a peaceful oasis amid the raging battles of Europe as everyone supports Trieste.

There are 2 retreats...
English London can only go to York
Turk Con can only go to Smy

So I'll enact both of those, if either player prefers OTB you may amend by 4pm tomorrow. Barring any update from me, these are the results.

Next: Fall 05 this Thursday 2/7, 2pm Pacific!

“What’s that number” You ask? It’s the percentage of players that turned in orders this turn!
That’s right 3 players take the turn off! However none of them do all that bad considering…

There is only 1 unit dislodged, and the German army Livonia can only retreat to Pru so I’ll just move it there and we skip along to fall!

Fall 03 due Monday Feb 11, 2pm Pacific!

Please note in my house rules, two consecutive NMR’s would mean Civil Disorder and out of the game! So make sure to get in some prelims…

DC147 (wb0812) - Spring 1905 English Misorder (?) - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi everyone,

It looks as though I owe you all an apology. One of our good players has pointed out that I was possibly not adjudicating according to the Blitz rules. Specifically the Abbreviations section, which reads:

-----------------------------
Abbreviations
Ambiguous abbreviations will result in a misorder (the unit Holds). An order that could have multiple interpretations will fail. For example F NTH-NOR would fail, because this could mean F NTH-Norway or F NTH-Norwegian Sea. F StP-Nor would be valid since StP can only go to Norway, not Norwegian. "Nor" and "Liv" should be avoided as they can be problematic, although if only one possible order can be made, it will be allowed.
GMs and TDs will not check moves or abbreviations prior to the deadline. Moves will be adjudicated at the deadline and no leniency period to clarify orders will be granted.-------------------------------

The key part of the above passage is "if only one possible order can be made, it will be allowed." England used the 'NOR' abbreviation in the Spring, which would have been ambiguous except that he ordered it to support ENG. As North Sea is the only space beginning with 'NOR' that borders the English Channel, then I ruled that the order had only on possible interpretation.

Hope everyone is all good with this ruling. Please just let me know if you aren't and I will try to explain further...

Cheers,

Trout

DC129 - Winter 1905 - We Suck Young Blood - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Are you hungry?
Are you sick?
Are you begging for a break?

--------------------------------------------

Austria gets no break, as the Arch-Duke is forced to disband in Venice. Meanwhile armies are raised in Edinburgh, Marseilles and Warsaw and a fleet is launched in Smyrna. The board readies for yet another year of blood...

Please let me know if I've erred - deadline for Spring 1906 will be set for Tuesday, February 12th (11:59 PM GMT). Thanks for all being so patient during these two weeks of Tanel's absence.

Cheers!

DC103 - Spring 1914 - Black And Blue - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
France continues in the quest for emminent domain. I have to say French fleets moving from the Barents Sea and moving into the Aegean Sea in the same turn is pushing it a little... But here we find ourselves in that very situation...

One retreat to worry about after the Spring moves, and that belongs to the Italian army from Venice. The green troops may fall back to Tyrolia, Piedmont, Tuscany or OTB. Deadline for the retreat will be set for Thursday, February 7th (11:59 PM GMT.) The Russian Red Cross supporters in Berlin were also dislodged, but with nowhere to retreat to they were automatically disbanded.

Please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers folks!

Two draw proposals have been submitted. In your spring 1910orders submit votes on both proposals concerncing the substance of the vote and on whether to publish each country's vote per House Rules 12 & 13. If both proposals pass, the first proposal will be the successful proposal as it was submitted first. Any successful proposal will immediately take effect and will end the game before Spring 1910moves are adjudicated.

Proposal 1: 4-way draw between England, Frace, Russia & Turkey

Proposal 2: 3-way draw between England, Russia & Turkey w/ French survivorship

For either proposal to pass the vote will have to be unanimous. A single 'no' vote will kill either measure. Pursuant to House Rule 13, 2/3s or 3 of the remaining countries voting 'yes' for publication will be necessary to publish the votes. Spring 1910orders and draw proposal votes are due 11pm day February 9th.

DC143 European Times Issue #001 1901 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
READ ALL ABOUT IT, EUROPEAN TIMES ISSUE ONE ON SALE NOW, READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!!!!

Attached to this Communiqué is a complementary copy of The European Times. For Frontline leaders a wire of the major stories is included below:

TENSIONS RISE AS ARMIES MOBILIZE
EUROPEAN Leaders were today embroiled in bitter exchanges of words as tensions rose over various territory claims made by seven of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedffice:smarttags" />Europe’s largest countries. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedfficeSurprisedffice" />
ET understands that Austria, Russia and Turkey have all made claims and counter claims in regards to ownership of the Balkans whilst France, Germany and England are all attempting to take political control of Holland and Belgium.
The Spanish leadership has been notably quite following their recent military troubles abroad.
ET, as ever, will be there to bring you all the developments as they happen.

Reports of spying add
pressure to diplomatic situation
REPORTS have been received of French spies making contact with socialist agitators in London to encourage their activism against the Conservative government. Sources from within the English Ministry of War suggest that junior diplomats from the French embassy in London have been seen attending meetings of known revolutionaries and socialists in London's coffee shops and bars. Experts suggest that this is a new phase in France's recent provocative attempts to extend French interests beyond the continent, and comes only months after the rumoured extensive military exercises by the French fleet in the English Channel, and increased patrols by the army of the Third Republic in the Burgundy and Picardy areas. Speculation suggests that an uprising by socialists in London and within the English armed forces could be imminent.
Intelligence officials were unavailable for comment, but the English Foreign Minister made a statement in the House of Commons "Rumours of an increase in diplomatic tensions between England and their friends Germany and France are simply scurrilous nonsense circulated by revolutionaries in an attempt to destabilize the long standing treaties in place". An official statement is awaited from the French Prime Minister, whilst Germany’s response to increased army patrols seems to have been to make public statements supporting the ethnic Germans living in Burgundy, who have recently had land seized from them by local French farmers.

Italy fears Tunis
FEARS are growing that Italy may be drawn into a war in North Africa after it emerged last night that Tunisian leaders are mobilizing troops for an assault on Europe. The Tunisian Embassy in Rome was unavailable for comment.

United Kingdom?
NEWS coming out of the UK suggests that England may have to forget military support from Wales after last years Rugby Home Nations Competition victory revived Welsh calls for independence. A Welsh-born MP stated that if Wales could beat England at rugby then defeating them in matters of the economy and world affairs was next on the agenda. Meanwhile independent polls in Wales show nearly 90% of Welsh citizens back a split from the UK.
Scottish politicians in Westminster moved quickly to affirm their support for the British Parliament.

Military superiority gives army the edge.
THOSE of you who are regular European Times readers may be aware of the growing tensions between the seven ‘European Superpowers’ but any military buff will tell you that the army to fear is in fact neutral Switzerland. The Swiss army have access to such phenomenal weapons as The Swiss Army Knife as well as pin point accurate timing devises. It remains to be seen if any of the seven great power of Europe will attempt to lure Switzerland out of it’s neutrality to utilise this war-winning technology.

Communiqué ends.

Guns, Germs and Steel 1264 / DC110 - Fall 1868 - G... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I guess that's what you get for going against your first impressions. Thanks Rupert for clarifying your intentions. Most honorable stab. I had not considered that perhaps you wanted Holland to win the game.

Subject: Guns, Germs and Steel 1264 / DC110 - Fall 1868 - Good Morning Cockerel

- RUSSIA SHARES A TURKEY SANDWICH WITH AUSTRIA AND HOLLAND!!
- UNITED STATES SLAPS BRAZIL WITH A MEXICAN BURRITO!!
- RUSSIA ANEXES JAPANESE SUSHI BARS ACROSS NORTHERN ASIA!!
- FRENCH NAVY ONCE AGAIN FAILS TO GET SAILORS TO VACATE FIJIAN PARADISE!!

-----------------------------------------------

Heya folks,

Definitely an exciting fall turn as with the turn of the year we will see our numbers drop by two. Despite all efforts to the contrary, our friendly Mexican and our good Sultan finally succomb to the pressure of all their neighbours beating them with sacks of doorknobs. The Japanese make a valiant struggle in the southern seas and Russia dominates in northern Asia and the Turkish peninsula.

There is many a retreat needed after this turn. I will need orders from Turkey, United States, Brazil, Holland, Japan and Mexico. (Although admittedly, the Turkish and Mexican retreats are a foregone conclusion -and in fact I already have the Mexican retreats in hand.) Deadline for Early Winter 1868 adjustments will be set for Saturday, February 9th (11:59 PM GMT).

My thanks to both Randolph and Jerry for sticking it through and playing out what must have been some very frustrating game-years. We all appreciate it, fellows. =)

With that, please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!

dc130 ~ Imperial1840 ~ Subject lines - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Guys, please change the subject lines on your emails to, I don't know, maybe reflect the subject of the email? I keep getting things like Spring 43 moves with a subject line saying "Winter 1841 Adjustments." I don't necessarily need the season and year in the subject - just don't put ANOTHER season and year in there.

Please include "dc130" somewhere in the subject line and somewhere - anywhere, the country you're playing in this game. It's not always obvious.

Thanks

Jerry
