Oops..

heh heh.. My bad.

That would be an Italian solo proposed, not a French solo proposed. What was I thinking? =)

Sorry about the confusion. Please have your yay or nay votes for an Italian solo to me by the soon-to-be-announced Winter deadline. Lack of a vote will count as a no.

Cheers,

Gentlemen and not-so-gentlemen,

We have a French solo proposal on the table. I'll set the deadline for your yay or nay votes with the Winter adjustments since the Fall deadline might be a little quick here. However, if I have all five votes in hand by this evening I will announce the result.

Regards,

Trout

dc144 winter 03 builds! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I’ve never seen so many fleets built in 3 years I’m surprised there’s any armies left on the map!

Austria: Remove A Tyrolia
France: Build F Marseilles
Italy: Build F Rome
Russia: Build F St Petersburg(sc)

This is officially a 4-player match now! Do you guys want a bit quicker turns given we don’t have 7 any more?

I’ll set the deadline for Monday Feb 18… 5 days… but if anyone wants the full week, let me know today and I’ll make it so.

Enjoy,
-mike

Mike,
You've been both a fierce enemy and a staunch supporter in this game.

However, in good conscience, and wary of an absolute revolt by my countrymen and finding my head rolling out of a basket into a ditch, I must vote NO to the Italian solo.
Smile
(oh, and I read your 'trick' immediately, so it wouldn't have worked. I literally laughed out loud, much to the concern of my workmates. Nice try though)

On the other hand, if indeed a French Solo was mentioned, I vote YES to that.

Michael

DC101 France EOG - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Derek,

I stand humbled - you are quite correct and how quickly I did forget. You were the first one to help me as new Germany, and it did make a difference in my survival.

I was crushed between you, Eng and Turkey and could easily see why the former Germany had quit. Anyway, nice game.

It seems like it has been a while since I had any actual force in the game but I'll try to remember how it progressed. I started off working with Germany which looked great until he made no builds in the first year. Then I switched to working with England because it seemed unavoidable to attack Germany. I tried to expand slowly and from a very early point tried to point out to everyone how large Mike was getting. This did not seem to do anything but get me attacked. At some point I decided i would do whatever i could to stop Mike from getting the solo. The players around me used the fact that I was attempting to hold Turkey back to attack me from behind and eventually I lost it all. I take slight offense from the new Germany that I gave him no help. The very first thing I did when he joined the game was offer him a complete truce and stop attacking him. Something which seemed valuable at a time when he was being attacked by every player around him.... How quickly they forget. I did not use my units in conjuntion with his much because I was desperately trying to hold back Turkey... But anyway my vague attempts at diplomacy, I couldn't seem to establish any long term relationships in the game were not enough to halt Mike. I enjoyed playing with everyone. Good game Mike, you ran away with it right from the start.

DC140 "Never Ending Story" fall 1903 res... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Sorry for the long delay, I was having e-mail problems yesterday, so I decided to wait till today and see if the Archduke's orders were hung up. Unfortunately, no such orders arrived today, so Austria suffers an NMR. Andy, are you still out there?

Italy, France, and Turkey all take shots at the missing Archduke, Italy gaining Venice and Turkey taking Greece. Russia walks unopposed into Berlin, and France sails into an undefended Liverpool. England does successfully defend Denmark against a German attack. Austria's army in Rumania comes under fire from two directions, but the attacks by Russia and Turkey are not coordinated, so the unordered defender successfully holds his position.

Austria has two retreats due, and each unit has only one valid retreat. In the interests of keeping the game moving, I will take the liberty of ordering the Austrian retreats:
F Greece - Albania
A Venice - Tuscany

Andy, if you wish to disband both of these units instead, please let me know, as that would entitle you to rebuild 1 unit.

Everyone gets to participate in the winter 1903 adjustments, as follows:
Austria: Remove 1 (changes to Build 1 if the Archduke changes both his retreats to OTB)
England: Remove 1
France: Build 2
Germany: Remove 1
Italy: Build 1
Russia: Build 1
Turkey: Build 1

Because of that e-mail glitch, I'm running a day behind. In order to get back on track, I'll set the winter 1903 deadline for Friday 2/15 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks for your patience, everyone.

Cory

Once Within: Abilities - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Abilities are all out!
Many have already asked, and it goes w/o saying if you have questions, let me know!

The abilities are all very experimental - they are designed to add some fun to the game, a little something to discover as you explore, and keep everyone in the dark (hehe) about what's going to happen next.

They are not intended to be game-breakers... and tho I have put a lot of thought into the wording, balance, etc, plus run them by numerous people and revised the wording on them about a thousand times, I am only human... and if I feel any power needs to be tweaked as the game progresses, I reserve the right to do so! Especially in the case of loopholes, paradoxes, or unclear wording that results in actions or problems I didnt envision being within the intent of the ability.

Other than that,
Enjoy!

Once Within: Roster - Black Knight seeks leg to s... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Mike,

Great game - really. Fab!

However, there are two errors I note already that cause me to thinks that we will have to start over. (Shouldn't that be "I thinks"Wink

First and most obvious, seriously - you made the Rogues color pink? Shouldn't that have been the Faeries? Faeries, pink...get it? Anyone? ....No offense to Robert, King of the Faeries, of course.

Second and more important, you will all note that I am the Knights. The Knights are of course, black. So thereforethwith, I am a Black Knight.
So, logically, according to Monty Python and the Holy Grail (which certainly applies in this Fog of War game) I quote: "the Black Knight always triumphs!"

Therefore, before we have started, I have already won. Whooopieee!

Of course, I am sure someone who likes to wreck a good story with the truth will remind the other players I might be missing an arm, or leg or two after a tussel with King Arthur - but it is really just a flesh wound!!!

And now for STRATEGERY - will the fine Band of Brothers that can see Aslan province, please drop me a private line? We should chat....I have this plan involving a large wooden rabbit.....

Jason

DC103 - Fall 1914 - Dead Souls - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Black day for Turkish Nationalism... Cave-ins occur on all fronts. Officials blame supply shortages, sabotage and shoddy moral... =)

Four retreats are required after the Fall moves - all coloured in yellow. Deadline for the Early Winter 1914 retreats will be set for Friday, February 15th (11:59 PM GMT).

Also guys, please remember that we have both a Italian solo AND a French solo proposal on the table. Please let me hear your boogaloo on whether you agree or disagree with either of these. I won't set the deadline until the Winter orders are due, but if I receive all votes in hand I will announce the verdict at that time.

Cheers!

Guns, Germs and Steel 1264 / DC110 - Winter 1868 -... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
- CHINESE DISCOVER THAT WOOD FLOATS AND THAT SAILS HOLD WIND - BUILD NAVAL ARMADA
- ENGLAND PUTS IT ON ICE... (groan)
- USA DRAFTS VILLAGE PEOPLE - PUT THEM IN THE NAVY
- JAPANESE DISPATCH FAILS TO REACH EQUATORIAL CURRENT FLEET - MUTINY RESULTS

------------------------------------------------------------------

Heya gang,

Exciting times are afoot as China actually takes to the high seas. I never did receive a disband from Bret unfortunately, so as per my HR's I disbanded the unit furthest from his home centers and highest ranked alphabetically. This turned out to be the fleet in Equatorial Current.

With the Winter, I'd also like to send one last hurrah to Randolph and Jerry who will now be taking a seat on the sidelines. Gents, your perserverence and persistence in the face of perpetual retreat never ceased to impress me. Our thanks to both of you for sticking it out so admirably. =)

AN IMPORTANT MAP NOTE!!: There appears to be a bug in the RP file and the choice of building a west-coast St. Petes fleet does not seem to be allowed by RealPolitik. I have to dig into this and fix the RP file, but have not yet had time. [u:47964e6734]The map shows the Russian fleet in St. Petes North Coast. Please let me assure you that it is, in reality, on the West Coast.[/u:47964e6734]

I've set the Spring 1868 deadline for Tuesday, February 19th (11:59 PM GMT). Please let me know if you spot any errors along the way.

Also, with the EW adjudication we wrapped up yet another disc in our ever-growing sound-track... We had been listening to Underworld - Oblivion With Bells. I've now spun that out and popped play on a new album with this adjudication.

Cheers folks!

Dc132 - missing moves - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear All.

First of ll, due to my increased work load and other factors, you can't rely on me getting a 24 hour reminder out.

Because of this I am missing some disbands/builds for winter. Fortunately one of the players who is misisng has a GP remaining.

Therefore this time (and this time only) I am given people some extra time to get their moves in. I will adjduicate as soon as I have all moves, or within 24 hours whichever is sooner.

Offending parties will be notified privately hoewver all players are welcome to change their moves.

Sorry forgot the deadline:

Deadline for Fall 1844: Monday, February 18, 2359 gmt

China is formally in Civil Disorder. The player has resigned and I'm not going to try to replace him and hold up the game for a forlorn hope.

All the orders are in, so I will get this out now.
The Southlands Navy retreats to Cindalking as the Seafolk Rakers converge on the Fingers of the Dragon.
The Last remnants of the Tower Guard drift away from Bream Wood (many joining the White Lion Banner) as new armies form in Four Kings and Amacada.
New fleets set sail in Arad Domon and Godon, threatening the Seafolks dominance over the waves.
The Westlands forgoing a build due to overcrowding in their barracks.
The Aiel, having sacked Cairhien, return to the Waste, for Now.
The Seanchan are still sailing the oceans, held at bay by the bravery of the Sea Folk.
And sounding down the slopes of the Mountains of Dhoom is a sound not heard since the days of Artur Hawkwing.
A new Trolloc Horde prepares to descend on all.

Lets set the next deadline for Tuesday, February 19th (at) 9PM

Didn’t mean to send that! Ctrl-Enter is “send”, that always gets me!
But it stands now, even tho out 10 min early.

Ok, this is officially a weird game…

England moves OUT of his last SC, tempting 3 enemy units to take it and not one of them does… Germany waltzes into two Russian centers, Turkey loses his last, and Italy trades Ven for Mar…

Alex, you’re unfortunately eliminated, and the game is reduced to a 5 players! Thank you for sticking it out to the end, I cant help but wonder how the game might be different if you hadn’t missed the early turns!

French Mar is dislodged, but can only retreat to Spain so Mar-Spa it is.

Yet more GM's wanted! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Since this last post in early Jan, we’ve launched another 7 games, and our list of eager GM’s has gone dry!
If anyone is interested, let us know! Remember games run by volunteer help only.
Enjoy,
-mike

Hey diplomers…
The next standard game has filled (again) and is in search of a fearless leader!

There are currently 16 GM’s (now 19) running 38 games in the club… if you would like to join the ranks, pls let me know!

Some benefits of being a GM:
* It will improve your play! You will learn how players order, how alliances change, and so on. It will definitely take your Diplomacy game to the next level.
* It only takes about 20 minutes per week to run a turn.
* You’re making it possible for 7 other players to enjoy the game.

You remember your first game, right? You remember the GM, and the commentaries, and when the results came out? Well our next standard is full of 7 anxious and interested new players looking for that person to be their GM!

Especially to those new to the club… we run completely by volunteer help. Anyone can GM a game, just have to speak up.

Once you do, you will most likely get hooked and always want to run a couple while playing in a couple.

Enjoy!
-mike
