Dc115 Fall 1907 - EOG Derek - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I thought this varient was very interesting and enjoyed it a lot. I thought that it added a lot of extra diplomacy and a very complicated ally structure to the game. Before the game started I put a decent amount of analysis into which countries would be able to operate with less ally conflicts then others. I request to be either G-I or I-R and ended up with Italy Russia. I then worked to create and alliance between Felix, Mike and myself. Then the difficult part was to keep the alliance stable while we fought various allied and semi-allied sectors. It is impossible to go through this varient without attacking allies. Then I got a little lucky I was able to get pretty close to 20 SC and then make some unexpected moves for the win. I enjoyed the varient and thought it was quite interesting. I was actually expecting the game to break down with people preventing each other from being able to move but it didn't really happen. Good game by all. Steve thanks for the interesting varient.

Stephen, Thank you for the stimulating variant.
The extra level of Diploming really changed the dynamic of this game.
I guess the only issues I had were near the end when turkey was getting crushed, my partner had another nation that was doing well and the communication between us fell apart.

That said, I think this variant has a lot of legs, and is very playable as long as you really understand what you are getting into.

Very Well played Derek! Thought I might be able to keep us even, but Germany just couldn't grow as fast as Russia. Not sure what happened with Turkey's attack on Rum, it might have saved me.

Felix, nice job at keeping Germany down.

Dan, it was a good partnership. Wish we could have made it work better.

Stephen, Let's do this again!!!! I really enjoyed this dual variant.

Thanks all for a great game.

dc144 - Mostly Harmless - PRELIMS! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
And it’s dc144, not dc133. Smile

Hey everyone it’s the day after Christmas and as I sit here at work – one of 5 employees here today – it’s time to get the game rolling!

Note I don’t have prelims from most of you!

Let me put it this way: Prelims are to Diplomacy as the spice is to say, a Harkonnen… Yeah. That’s the best analogy I could come up with, but you get the point. They’re important! Smile Great habit to start early.

Enjoy,

Send some prelims in ASAP, cuz that’s a great habit to get yourself into… and since I hear there’s a holiday thing coming up this week, let’s make the first deadline for: Wed, Jan 2, 2pm Pacific! That way we can take our time and not feel rushed to get negotiations in between the turkey and the pie… I will generally run about 1-week deadlines, with 2 days for retreats and/or builds. If that is too slow or too fast for anyone, be sure to say so.

If you have any questions, LET ME KNOW! I don’t know the experience levels of the players here as you’re mostly all new to me.

Also, introductions are welcome!

Tentative schedule:
Spring 01 due Wed Jan 2
Fall 01 due Wed Jan 9

Tough spot guys, 3-sc Austria, anyone out there gung-ho enough to take on the world? If you're willing to keep this game moving it would be appreicated - remember replacement spots are treated differently in the ratings, so you're not putting up much risk to play!

Pericles II - now open! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hail ancient warriors!

It was about 2 years ago that we entered the Bronze Age for the first time, and Lee Taylor scored a win leading the Messenians to a 20-SC solo victory!

Well here we go again, as we don our helmets and pikes and ready our phalanxes and triremes for battle with Pericles II. My personal invite is being sent to those who played it first time, (tho feel no obligation to accept) as well opening the game up for anyone that wants to join.

Looking forward to this one,

DC103 - Stand-In GM - Spring 1912 Approaching - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi folks,

As some of you might have read, unfortunately it appears that Felix's father has passed away. Due to this, Felix has asked us mods to step in a pilot his games. Thus, I sincerely apologize, but you good folks of DC-103 get saddled with me as your GM for the end-game.

If my understanding is correct, this game is headed into Spring 1912 with the deadline set for tomorrow (December 27th). I'm really sorry, but I'll have to ask you guys to resend any orders that you've previously sent to Felix to me. IWe'll keep the same deadline and ask for Spring 1912 orders by Thursday, December 27th (11:59 PM GMT). This email will also serve as your 27.5 hour deadline warning.

Anyways, I appreciate everyone's patience as I muddle through all this. Cheers!

PS - I've attached a game-map of the Winter 1911 turn. Please review it an let me know if you spot any errors or inconsistencies. Thanx.

Hi everyone,

Hope we all had a great holidays. With regret, however, we've learned that Felix's father has just passed away. Felix is pulling out of all his games to take some time, and we will be seeking a replacement Cuba. Apologies for the delay - hopefully it will be as painless as possible.

DC139 - Live In Rapid City - Resolving the Game - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi folks,

Well, I hope everyone had a good Christmas. I'm sitting here with the family watching the world juniors hockey championships... Canada is up on the Czech Republic 1-0, so all is good. =)

Concerning DC-139 - this game has had a great run. Once again, a Persian solo has been proposed as a game resolution. However, I don't think we can have a typical vote on this for a couple of reasons:

- Mikael has gotten me word that he is very ill with the flu and is not regularly checking email at the moment
- Jon is just starting out on his month-long trip where he will be without internet access
- Felix has just suffered the loss of his father and is resigning his positions in all games

Thus I am left looking at the game board and realizing that if we continue, all powers except for Greece and Persia will either be placed in Civil Disorder or will have to have replacements found for them. With Persia at 16 centers, only 2 away from forcing the solo, my personal feeling is that this game is already very close to completion.

My proposal is that we accept the Persian solo as proposed. If we do this, we can close the book on this game without handing out any 'abandons' and with everyone on the board surviving. Admittedly, this is not the most satisfactory conclusion, but I believe it is the fairest to all parties. (Two centers short of a solo, I don't believe I could convince Nathan to accept a DIAS - as I wouldn't accept one if I was in that position as a player.)

However, I throw the floor open to you, the players. Please let me know what you're thinking. If I hear no dissenting voices within 48 hours, we will accept the Persian solo and amicably close this game.

Thanks everyone!

Solo taken, and Solo accepted, even though I've recovered, it's the best. Persia won it imho.

Germany - three builds possible

Note to Nick: F in StP is in the North Coast and cannot move to Lvn [only can be done from the South Coast].

For our next turn - let's do builds/retreat/disbands by tomorrow at 8pm CST [December 18th]. From there, let's make our Spring 1906 deadline Thursday December 27th at 5pm CST. This should ensure that everyone has plenty of time to talk and get moves in given when the holidays fall. If any of you three have an issue with this please let me know. Thanks.

Dc137: New GM/ New Deadline/Winter needed - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear Players of Dc137.

Unfortunately due a death in his family, your GM has had to step down from this game and I (one of the moderators of Dc) have been kindly slated to pick up the game.

So a couple of things.

1) I'm going to need a confirmation from you all that you are getting this email, so send me a reply please.

2) I'm not able to be online as much as felix was, so the 'express' will slow down a little.. I will do my best to maintain the breakneck pace but it's more likely to be a 48 hour turnaround than a 24 hour turnaround.

3) I believe we are at winter, so

Winter as follows::
AUSTRIA:: +1
ENGLAND:: +1
FRANCE:: -1
GERMANY:: EVEN
ITALY:: +2
RUSSIA:: GONE
TURKEY:: -1 (NO NEED TO SUBMIT)

let's have those builds/disbands with your email confirmation please... and say by Friday 28th December, 9pm AUSTRALIAN EST. (note my times are Australian times as I am in Australia) That's in approximatly 30ish hours.

Apologies for the delay,
I had misplaced Germany's orders
and of course were waiting on
Russia's move....then my brain
suffered a fart as I thought Germany's move
of DEN S BER-KIE was invalid...thinking that
Berlin was where Kiel was and Kiel in Berlin....
I wonder if its related to the holidays? Like
a slow down of my meager brain....nevermind....
its a rhetorical question demanding no answersWink.

So we move!!

DC139 - Live In Rapid City - Resolving the Game - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Obviously I am in favor of this proposal, and appreciate the pragmatism. Considering the significance of the extenuating circumstances, I think it's best we settle things this way.

Well played by all, and I look forward to our next meeting.

Subject: DC139 - Live In Rapid City - Resolving the Game

Trout

We've hit our goal of 42 entrants, and there's still time left. Keep in mind as players join beyond the 42, you may not get into the tournament unless we reach clear to 49. Very doable! Sign up!
