DC112 fall 1906 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Cory,

Thanks again for doing a great job as GM. I have a EOG prepared and will send at the conclusion.

As a current comment on the game:

Italy: ouch! Your stab on me was excellent, but wow did fortunes turn. Everybody is after a piece of the pie. Ces la vie.
Russia - you have created a straight line wall of white death running north to south....nice.
France - has done just the same - between you and Russia, the game board looks like the trash compactor from Star Wars with Italy and Germany getting squashed like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.

See you guys again at the end.

.ExternalClass DIV {;} Fall 1906 arrives, and the 4-way draw proposal is voted down. We also say goodbye this year to Archduke Jason, whose final order did manage to bounce Italy from Trieste. Jason, thanks for sticking with the game!

Italy finds itself under attack from all sides, and suffers a forced disband in Vienna, as well as a retreat from Western Med. Brian, your fleet may retreat to Gulf of Lyon, Tyrrhenian Sea, or OTB.

For winter 1906, Germany and Russia are entitled to 1 build each. Italy may build 1 if he retreats OTB. Both the retreat and build orders will be due Tuesday 11/13 at 3pm Central (US). I will announce the retreat order before then if I receive it ahead of the deadline.

And the tides begin to turn! Who can you trust?! Don't ask me!

I have retreated Austria to Tyr seeing as it was his only on-board
option. Dan if you'd like to disband instead let me know. Otherwise no
retreats, so we push onward!

Fall 1906 due this coming Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 9 pm eastern.

Inverted - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Definitely an interesting idea, it would be akin in the regular map to any fleet being able to go off the edge and come back on anywhere else. Would totally change the dynamic, as for example Moscow would now have a coast (bordering only switzerlake) but a coast nonetheless. Sev would have two coasts… one on the Black Sea and another on the lake. France can directly attack Russia, and England can directly attack Turkey (via-NAT-Switzerlake- and then any of EMS, Syr, or Arm). Really removes the corner safety aspect of the game. Russia becomes the most vulnerable, since a fleet in that space can hit StP, Mos, or Sev. So much that it’s almost imperative that Russia build a 1st year fleet and take that spot for himself just to keep others out.

Would this one single change eliminate the possibility of stalemate lines?

I know the idea is to have an oddly shaped map play identically to the
Standard map, but I'd personally make one change, and play it as a variant.

I'd make the circular central "outside" passable and a sea province. That
way, your unnamed (on the map) central province, named "Switzerwater",
perhaps, would really serve to facilitate movement through all the water
provinces. Having it as a land province, or as an impassable province
(which makes it equivalent to Standard), kind of blocks things up.

I was bored the other day so I came up w this. It's IDENTICAL to the
standard map and entirely playable as a standard game... except it is
completely inverted topologically. The standard map has two unplayable
regions... Switzerland, and the "outside"... this map takes the outside
to the middle, and Switzerland to the outside, but otherwise is
completely equivalent to playing on the standard map.

First Moves - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I'm pretty excited to see how these are going to turn out. No matter if it's during a face to face game or a PBEM, waiting to see the first moves always fills me with anticipation more than any other part of the game. Laughing

Even if I get stabbed by my every neighbor, I think I'll still be happy with getting to see the moves. Plus, I'm in college--I can't afford to stress out about this because I'm too busy stressing out over everything else in my life. Smile

Anyway, to re-cap, I'm counting down the hours to tomorrow and good luck to everyone; I hope this winds up being a very enjoyable game.

And if anyone knows anything about calculating the highest frequency and wavelength of an electron based on the allowable energy levels of an atom that it inhabits, I could use some tutoring. Very Happy

DC123 Shade Of The Bonsai - Spring 1574 - Sacrific... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
From the Recorded Words of Asakura Soteki:

A general of great merit should be said to be a man who has met with at least one great defeat.

The written pages of history sometimes hold surprises, and outcomes are never quite as preordained as they seem. The lessons of Spring 1574 bring that to mind, as the combined might of the Asakura, Oda and Hojo bring the Takeda advance to an abrupt stop. Fortunes are reversed in Hida, as the Takeda troops are forced to disband after confronted with the Oda troops in Mino. Meanwhile, in the south, the Shimazu face an ever-tightening noose of Mori-making...

No retreats were required from the Spring moves other than the Takeda disband. So with that, we'll set the Fall 1574 deadline for Wednesday, November 14th (11:59 PM GMT). As always, please let me know if you spot any mistakes or errors.

Regards,

Trout of the Long Rice
