dc186 f11 Game End - SOLO! - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Congrats to Paul / Bridgejunky for a 19-sc solo victory! This catapults him to the leader spot in the tournament, with only one game left to go!
End-game-statements are welcome, and encouraged.
There were a couple Turk retreats, but they didn’t impact the outcome so I just picked two spots. Hope you enjoyed, and see you next game!

Heya folks,
Well, welcome to the longest running game of the Blitz, Round Two! Max and I seem to be a great combination, because the two of us were both also in the longest-running game of Round One.. Hmm..
But enough natter from the GM. Austria secures St. Petes and also takes a little side-trip into Naples for good measure. Adjustments are due from all three of you - deadline for Winter 1913 will be set for tomorrow - Friday, June 20th (11:59 PM GMT).
Cheers!

DC190 - Winter 2001 - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
The builds are in and the new map has been made small enough to fit
with the website. Things are starting to look very interesting... I
like having all those fleets out patrolling the seas.
Mexico:
Build A Florida
Build A Arizona
South America:
Build F Rio de Janeiro
Build F Argentina
Russia:
Build F Murmansk (nc)
Build A Minsk
West Africa:
Build F Ouagadougou
Build A Libya
South Africa:
Build A Congo
Build A Nairobi
Persia:
Build F Ankara
Build F Mumbai
Build A Pakistan
China:
Build F Vladivostok
Build F Taiwan
Build A Beijing
I figure this is a perfect time to point out the workings of the
strait rule... just to clarify it.
If, suppose, South America ordered F TON-TAS while Australia moved F
GAB-Chr and Mexico went F FIJ-Auc, the move of South America's fleet
would require permission from one of the two forces occupying either
side of the strait. The rule comes into effect any time a unit ENDS a
season bordering a strait. Also, support can't be given through a
strait that cannot be traversed. And of course, straits are crossable
without a convoy. Clear as mud?
Feel free to ask any questions re: the straits or anything else map related.
Next deadline will be Spring 2002 on Tuesday, June 24th, and I'm
moving the time up to 4:30 Central (10:30 GMT). After that we can bid
Scott good travels and move along after he gets back.

Hi Mike,
once I've returned from vacation (July 20) I'm ready to kick off a new game. Perhaps a variant but will keep it entry-level so new players can join too.
Think about putting it up for enrolling within the next 10 days.

Congrats Paul! and a thank you to Matt for putting up with my ambiguous e-mails. To everyone else, great game!
I can't remember ever having played with my armies as strung out as they were through most of the game as they were in this one. I also don't do very well with Germany so perhaps I have learned something useful. My fingers are crossed that Paul will get the overall.[Reply] |

Congratulations Paul!
Admittedly, I haven't followed the game closely since my departure - but I occasionally checked up on it to see what was happening. I'm still fairly new to Diplomacy and this site and made some big strategic and diplomatic errors in this game that can be learnt from - as well as having the opportunity to learn from each of your fine selves. Thanks for the game and best of luck with your next ones.

Remember that WWIV orders (preliminary) are due Monday 10am Pacific! (5pm GMT). This means that even tho the deadline is not until Wednesday, I am requiring that I have a full set of orders in by Monday, just to make sure we’re on track for Wednesday’s turn. This is the only turn prelim orders are required, tho it is definitely a good idea to use them all the time.
So get me those prelims, I only have about half of the sets in!

Straits - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
It would seem that the explanation of the straits still leaves something to be desired... so I will attempt to make up some examples and explain it from there.
-------------------------------------------
Example 1:
Europe F Atlantic Ocean
North America F Bermuda Triangle
Mexico F Gulf of Mexico
West Africa F Trinidad & Tobago
South America F Panama
Situation 1-1:
BRM - CAR
MEX - Cub
ATL - Hai
The NAm fleet would need permission from ONE of Mexico or Europe to pass through the strait.
NOTE: If Europe wished to grant permission, he would simply add "Permit BRM - CAR" to his orders.
Situation 1-2:
BRM - CAR
MEX - Cub
ATL - Hai (*bounce*)
TRI - Hai (*bounce*)
Because of the bounce, the Haitian side of the strait is not controlled and BRM - CAR does not need permission.
Situation 1-3:
Pan - CAR
BRM S Pan - CAR
MEX - Cub
ATL - Hai
TRI - CAR
The support from BRM requires permission from ONE of Europe or Mexico or else it will fail and Pan will bounce with TRI.
Example 2:
West Africa F Aegean Sea
Europe A Zagreb
Persia A Ankara
Russia A Nizhniy-Novgorod
Situation 2-1:
AEG - BLA
Zag - Gre
Ank S Zag - Gre
Land units control straits as well. Since both sides of the strait are controlled at the END of movement, WAf would require permission from ONE of Europe or Persia
Situation 2-2:
AEG - BLA
Zag - Gre
Ank - Cau (*bounce*)
Niz - Cau (*bounce*)
Because of the bounce in Caucasus, Persia's unit is back in Ankara by the end of movement which means WAf still requires permission.
Situation 2-3:
AEG - BLA
Zag - Gre
Ank - Gal
By the end of movement, Persia no longer controls Ankara's side of the strait, thus permission is no longer necessary because at least one side of the strait is free.
---------------------------------------
These are all the possibilities I can dream of at the moment. I hope I can get away without making visual representations of these situations because that would take me a while...
Further questions?

DC183 Spring 1904 moves - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Spring 1904 moves see France move into Belguim, with England making a Dunkirk style retreat by convoying his Belgian army back to the homeland. Meanwhile, he grabs Kiel, but Russia replaces him in Denmark. In the east, Russia also moves into Bulgaria but Turkey evicts the russians from Smyrna
We've got one retreat needed from Russia, who can retreat from Smyrna to either Syria or Armenia
The retreat deadline is Monday 23rd June at 2000 GMT, and we'll shoot for Fall 1904 moves for Thursday after that. Should Russia notify me of his retreat before Monday, I'll shift the Fall deadline forward a day..

DC177 Spring 1904 Results - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
I have all the retreats in that I requested but a point was made to me
by one of the admins that the DC House Rules, which apply to this game
because I have yet to post an official set of my own on the site, say
that units dislodged when a player NMRs are not auto-disbanded, so
Austria has the opportunity to retreat his F Smy to Syr, Eme, or OTB.
So I'm extending the deadline for him by 24 hours and this retreat is
due tomorrow (Saturday) at 9 pm eastern. Consequently the fall deadline
will also be moved back 24 hours, to Wednesday at 9 eastern.
Matt
Matt Kremer wrote:
At last. My apologies for the issues; let's get this game back into
the flow!
Russia re-garrisons Sev but sees German units move into Nwy and Fin,
Italy knocks Russia out of Vie, Turkey takes Sev back from the
unordered Austrian fleet, and England has one turn to get back into
one of his home centers as they all fill up with enemy units.
Austria NMRs, in case you didn't read the fine print, and thus his F
Smy is auto-disbanded. There are, however, 4 other retreats (see
below adjudication). These are due to me by tomorrow (Friday) at 9 pm

Shenanigans - s03 results! - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
What crazy antics we have today... Every move succeeds! - Except for
England's, that is... and they rack up enough failures for everyone.
France trudges ahead, Turkey slips into Sevastopol, Italy returns to its
roots, and Russia surrounds Germany. And Austria? Yeah they're still
alive - and with a sneaky move the Tunisians may be in for a shakeup.
Map changes:
- Liverpool & London open multiple coasts
- Berlin & Marseilles lose their ability to build fleets

But ever onward - we find the West eliminated in Fall 1908 and the South cruising to a solo win. My thanks to all players for what I've found to be a throughly enjoyable game. EOG statements are DEFINITELY welcome.
The Fall turn results are below. Also, the player roster is included so that you can see just who you were Sail-Hoing against. =)
Congratulations to Rob, the Chicken of Bristol for his first DC solo win. Thanks to Garry Bledsoe for coming in and running the helm for the Northern ships. And a hearty 'good game' goes to Jerry Todd of the East and Steve Caponigri of the West.
Cheers everyone. See you in the next one...

DC191 A Study In Baltic - Fall 1901 - A Scandal In... - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
... The next day, Watson found himself pacing back and forth in his friend Holmes' study. The housekeeper had informed him that Sherlock had stepped out early in the morning, before breakfast had even hit the table. A part of Watson raged inside him that he had to do something, but the calmer and rational side of him cautioned that Holmes was already out gathering the information that only his friend could.
Suddenly, without Watson hearing his arrival, Holmes slipped into the room. The good doctor got an awful fright, turning and finding his friend appearing as if an apparition, shaking off a shaggy blonde wig and removing a foul-looking fake moustache from his lips. "A scandal, it is, dear Watson. A scandal in the Gulf of Bothnia!"
In no time at all, the two were ensconced in their arm-chairs and deep in conversation. Holmes explained the details of the fracas erupting in Bothnia, and the rumours of the Finnish and Russian romance gone horribly, horribly wrong. "But where will this lead to?" Watson found himself exclaiming.
"It remains far too early to tell," Sherlock hummed. "But it looks as though even an intellectual like myself might not begin to fathom it. Yes, this Baltic scenario should prove quite the interesting case...."
---------------------
Apologies once again for the trouble getting this adjudication out to you guys. Our internet and power has been going up and down all day. It seems to have finally stabilized, but I have thought that a couple times earlier today.
In any event - trusting that this email will get out, the Fall of 01 proves just as interesting as Sherlock suggests. Two seperate power struggles erupt on the board - between Finland/Russia and Sweden/Poland. But with troops stationed close to all the back-garden gates its anyone's guess about whose flowers are about to be trampled...
Builds are due from all powers. Deadline for Winter 1901 adjustments will be set for Monday, June 23rd (11:59 PM GMT).
Please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!
