Copy & Pasting the Players chart to Excel, then doing some quick sums and divisions...

We're on game dc195, 1630 players have played (including duplicates)

This makes for an average of 8.4

It would seem that the explanation of the straits still leaves something to be desired... so I will attempt to make up some examples and explain it from there.

I forgot to mention that in the cases of Panama, Egypt and Jakarta, those straits can be controlled by one unit because they pass directly through the territory.
