DC177 Spring 1902 Results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
And the players all put those new units straight to work! England
reclaims the North Sea but is forced out of Norway by Russia and finds
the French on his soil and Russia teams with both Turkey and Italy to
put Austria in a pretty sticky situation.

We have 4 retreats (2 from Austria, 1 each from Germany and England, see
bottom of adj.); those are due on Thursday (the 8th) at 9 pm eastern,
but I will send them out as soon as I get them. Looking ahead, Fall
1902 will be due next Monday, May 12, at 9 pm eastern.

dc182 Seismic Dip Game-Start! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Welcome friends! ...to SEISMIC Diplomacy! Aka dc182.

This should be a great game, lots of players eager to get this one going, I know it'll be fun...

************************************************

- In the West, leader of France, home to many a habitable bridge, we have Rolf Loschek! rolfloschek(at)yahoo.de

- Next to him, and across the Rhine, sure to be a thorn in the side all game, we have Matthew Strebe, strebenator(at)gmail.com

- Across the rainbow… er… channel, we have the leader of England, the masterful Mr. H… aka Mike Hoffman! mrh(at)panix.com

- Then over the Barents and thru the Scandinavian peninsula, we have grandmother’s house, home to the mighty Czar Steve of Russia - scaponig(at)yahoo.com

- To his south, we have the jugger-buddy in crime, Nathan Deily of Turkey! ndeily(at)yahoo.com

- And in the ultimate of whipping-countries, we have the proverbial drum for all your sticks… the path for all your feet… the anvil for all your hammers… The Austrian Cluffinator… James “I’ll be back” Clough, cluffy123(at)googlemail.com

- So what could be worse than Austria? Being Canadian… er.. um… Italian of course! (heh sorry Trout)… Mr Former Trout, former.trout(at)gmail.com

Full, clear, and devoid-of-my-usual-banter lineup below.

Of course this game is open press, let’s make it interesting!

************************************************

SEISMIC Orders

Remember with each turn, you have to submit your regular moves, AND your seismic moves. If you revise any bit or part of one set, be sure to turn in a whole new set.

Seismic orders should be in the form of: SPLIT A/B, JOIN C/D

That makes it about as clear and concise as possible. For the first 2 years, I WILL CHECK all seismic orders submitted for validity – to make sure we all understand how you split one thing and join another. After the first 2 years pass, I will only check upon request or answer questions about what would be valid or not.

Any questions? Send ‘em to me, and copy the group if it’s a public thing for all.

************************************************

SPRING 01 DEADLINE: WED, MAY 14, 10am Pacific! (1pm Eastern, 5pm GMT, 6pm CET)

Enjoy!

After all this hard work, the Russian Tsar needs his rest. He will be on vacation from May 9-18. While on vacation he is unlikely to have access to any means of correspondence. That means that Russia's final orders for Fall will be submitted early in the day on May 9.

Guns, Germs and Steel 1264 / DC110 - Fall 1872 - S... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
- HOLLAND RIPS INTO RUSSIAN SOUTH YELLING BAK-U!- US FORCES MEET SOMETHING UNSEEN FOR A WHILE - FIERCE RESISTENCE
- JAPANESE NAVY STICKS SOY INTO CHINESE EYES
- BRITAIN TO FRANCE - MEH! WE DON'T REALLY WANT THAT DANISH ANYWAYS..

The game flavour continues - the big get bigger and, with the exception of Japan, the struggling continue to struggle. Five retreats are required after the Fall onslaught - three Russian, one Chinese and one Austrian.

Deadline for Early Winter 1872 retreats will be set for Thursday, May 8th (11:59 PM GMT). As always, please triple-check me for errors.

Cheers!

DC176 - Autumn 02 clarification - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear players,

I seem to have caused some confusion with my second email on the earlier Winter 02 deadline.
Some of you seem to have interpreted this as if I had already adjudicated the Autumn 02 retreats. Not so!
Once I have the retreats confirmed from both players, I will immediately notify all of you, so you can start working on your builds/disbands.

Deadline for Winter 02 Builds/Disbands is still this Thursday, 23.00 GMT.

Heya gang,

Please note that Spring 1911 orders are due in just over 18.5 hours. Also I'd like to point out that a grand total of two of y'all have voted on the end-game proposals... Remember that not voting counts as a big 'NO!' - so if you agree with ANY of them then please let me know ASAP.

Thanks!

DC138 WInter Of Our Discontent - Fall 2008 - Abby... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
A practical fortune cookie today - Tired and cranky GMs make mistakes - best to check your results...

Apologies for the late adjudication - the required clarification took a little longer than expected, and then of course work factors interfered. Lots of action in the Fall turn as the Western powers continue to wreck havoc in the East. One retreat from New York is required for the fleet in the North Atlantic, and then we'll progress into the Winter adjustments.

Deadline for Early Winter 2008 will be set for Thursday, May 8th (11:59 PM GMT). And like the cookie says - please double-check my work.

Cheers!

DC153 Spring 1909 Results and GAME END! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear all,

T'was an interesting introduction to the diplomatic corp community. Thanks for the game.

England was right - never give up the Channel. Things started going downhill for France from then! That it was combined by Italy's eventually successful fixation with the Iberian only quickened the downfall.

My biggest mistake was letting the latter into Marseilles. At the time I thought it would have been obvious that I would block it and that Italy would have instead moved north. Wrong wrong wrong. Instead I got greedy and tried to defend Belgium and (I think) secure the second Iberian centre. In the end I got neither.

things got very strange after that because I realised Italy was still my only friend in the area. With Germany and England gunninng so hard for an invasion I was forced to trust the only one who had actually violated French soil. All the while I could never tell if Italy and England were just playing with me or not.

I guess that points to the success of the Italian's play and diplomacy. The fact that I was still defending and helping him as he took my second last centre speaks alot.

My favourite move, for what good it did me, was interruptring the bounce in Kiel and leaving Holland vacant for another season. But I guess all that did was cement me another enemy.

My biggest question is whether Germany and Italy and Italy negotiated to take me down from the start. I'd be particularly interested to know if the combination of Germany demanding a bounce in Burgandy and Italy announcing his intention to head west were coordinated. It was a very frustrating coincidence if not - as it kept me from taking two iberian centres in the first year (given my initial foray into the English Channel).

Oh well, Thanks again for the game,. Sorry to have departed so early and congratulations to all those that reached the final draw.

Best wishes,

Integre of France.

(Paul)

DC178 Search For SpongeBob - Spring 03 - Ocean Man - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The waves be a harsh mistress, says I. Dark and deep at times, yet shallow and rocky t'others. A Pirate best be wary or else find himself wed to the briny blue forevermore...

A bounce in Posedion's Curse characterizes the Spring 03 turn - although a sneaky side-step on the South's part into Lover's Lane might have more impact on the turns ahead. No retreats, and no surrenders. We move smartly into Fall 03 with a deadline set for Thursday, May 8th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers!

DC143 spring 1905 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Russia reoccupies St. Petersburg with a fleet, as England runs from the fight. England sails to Spain, ahead of the French army rushing southward. Russia realigns his armies, moving them from Germany's front door to threaten Austria instead, while Austria mostly stays in place.

No units are dislodged, so we proceed directly to fall 1905, which will be due next Tuesday 5/13 at 23:59 GMT. Thanks!

Cory

Fogariffically Fogalicious Friday - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
That’s right, it will be a Fogariffically Fogalicious Friday in Pleasantview!

dc118, Dark Side of the Fog
…and…
dc122, Ancient Art of War in Fog

…are both due Friday, 10am Pacific!

DSF is now in Fall ’16, 2 years ahead of AAWF, which is in Fall ’14. Oddly when the 2nd game started, it was only a year behind… now over the last 6 months, they’ve finally been “lapped”.

See you Friday! They will be on time, so get’em in!

PS… dc118 also has a vote due.

PS (dc162) s05 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Quoting the great Philoctetes, “Saddle up, kid. We're going to Thebes!”

And so it was done… The Aetolians board their ships off the coast of Achaia and ride across the S.C. to the ancient megatropolis

On other fronts, the Atticans are stuck in the mud for yet another turn, the Laconians make more progress against Messenia, and the little Italians via no moves at all survive yet another year! Cumae to remain neutral for five years!

Remember 2 consecutive NMR’s would mean Civil Disorder, and out of the game!

Seismic 101 - The Beached Fleet - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Some have asked what happens if a fleet on a coast ceases to have a coast to be on, after a seismic order...

Some examples,

A) The Russian fleet StP holds, and someone orders Join Lvn-Fin, Split StP/sc-GoB
B) The Austrian fleet Tri bounces in 01, and someone orders Join Alb-Ven Split Tri-ADR
C) The Turk fleet in Ank bounces in 01, and someone orders Join Arm-Con, Split Ank-Black

In each of these cases, the fleet would be left on a coast with no water adjacent.

1) If there is another coast, the fleet is AUTOMATICALLY relocated to the other coast. In the case of StP above, the fleet would be relocated to StP/nc. If there are multiple other coasts, the owning player must immediately choose which to relocate to.

2) If there are no other coasts, the owning player may opt to immediately disband the unit

3) If he prefers to retain a fleet without water, then he is the proud owner of a Beached Fleet! A beached fleet cannot move, cannot support adjacent spaces, and cant do anything but sit there. (tho it may be supported in place). It must sit there until such time as water is reconnected to the province, or until the player takes a disband by reduction of centers. The player may not opt later to disband unless he is forced to disband.

The option to disband it is only available immediately, and if passed up, the fleet is beached until water is reconnected.

************************************

On a similar note, if a fleet on a coast suddenly has that coast split in two, the owning player must immediately choose which coast he wishes to exist on. Examples:

A) Fleet in NAf, when someone orders to Split MAO/WMS, Join Spa/sc-NAf.
B) Fleet in Spa/sc, when the same order is ordered

In A), the Fleet in Naf must immediately choose to exist on the WMS side, or the MAO side of the new land bridge from Naf to Spain.
In B), the Fleet in Spain must choose to exist on one of the 2 (of 3 total) southern coasts of Spain!

Seismic 101 - Canals - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
There are 5 provinces on the map that are always considered to have a canal, when connected to certain sea zones:

Con with BLA & AEG
Kie with HEL & BAL
Den with SKA & BAL
Swe with SKA & BAL
Nap with ION & TYS

These are the 5, and the only 5 like this. So even tho Swe does not have a canal in the normal game, so long as it is connected to both SKA and BAL, a fleet could enter Sweden from, say, SKA, and exit via BAL. This is even if Swe gets connected in funny ways to the mainland.

This, and more bits like it, can be found here: www.dipwiki.com?title=Seismic

Russian Press Conference - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
This Summer 1902...a season which will live in infamy...the Combined English / German Military Machine callously and deliberately attacked the peace-keeping forces of Mother Russia. Indeed we were in conversation with those nations only hours before the brutal attack and while future negotiations seemed fruitless there was no indication or declaration of War. Last fall, German forces attacked Silesia, Last fall German Forces attacked Prussia, This spring German forces attacked Warsaw. This spring English forces attacked St. Petersburg. Very many Russian lives were lost.

Hostilities exist! There can be no blinking at it. But the Russian people, in their righteous might, shall defend their mother land no matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, and ensure an attack of such character shall never happen again. We will prevail against the Germans and English with the unbound determination of our people ...to absolute victory!
