Hi Ben,

The official game rules state that "if a player fails to order a retreat when necessary, the unit is disbanded."

ah, indeed - but that has not happened yet. He only failed to order
in the Fall season, not the Autumn retreats...yet.

DC 306: Sengoku Rev6DP - Fall 1575: Chosokabe Nobu... - Kenshi777   (Jul 27, 2010, 2:52 pm)
Now we have a challenge to the ruling (legitimate) and a clarification I owe -

First - clarification - the retreat is *from* Atsumi Bay, either to Owari or OTB.  My apologies - got a lot going on here today at training still.../

Second - the challenge to the ruling is that the NMR results in an automatic disband of both units.  My understanding is that this is a quirk of Realpolitik, not the actual game rules.  I will allow 24 hours for evidence (i.e. a citation in the rulebook) to be presented - if my ruling is incorrect, it will be reversed.  Otherwise, gameplay continues, and the two retreats are due tomorrow evening.

Very pleased to see this level of attention to detail, speaks highly of the caliber of our players, a most welcome sight.  More to folllow when we have a ruling on the retreat - until then, proceed as posted before!

DC 306: Sengoku Rev6DP - Fall 1575: Chosokabe Nobuchika (dc306) Kenshi777 Jul 27, 02:52 pm

More to folllow when we have a ruling on the retreat - until then, proceed as posted before!

ah, indeed - but that has not happened yet. He only failed to order
in the Fall season, not the Autumn retreats...yet.

DC 306: Sengoku Rev6DP - Fall 1575: Chosokabe Nobuchika (dc306) Kenshi777 Jul 28, 12:35 pm
Hello all -
I'm afraid I need to call for another replacement. I have heard from
our Hojo player, Michael, and RL concerns are proving overwheling at
this point (happens to us all sometimes). I thank Michael for
playing, and for taking the time to provide me with the courtesy of an
explanation.
I will post the vacancy for the Hojo position (it's strong, should
fill quickly) on the DC website, and hold the game at the retreat
phase for now. (meaning, the replacement will have the choice to
retreat F Atsumi Bay to Owari or OTB, which has been confirmed as a
legal option according to the rules)
Sorry about the delay, I thank you all for your patience. I trust you
all will join me in wishing Michael well, and thanking him for playing
with us.

***TEAHOUSE COMMENTARY: Hojo is caught unaware and NMRs this season,
which results in the capture of Totomi by Oda. Asakura is forced out
of Wakasa Bay by the advancing Mori forces, though they perform an
transfer of authority in Asakura's favor in Inaba. Mori lets the unit

plods merrily along in old age, as Uesugi fleets hover offshore.

DC 306: Sengoku Rev6DP - Official Fall 1575 Deadli... - Kenshi777   (Jul 25, 2010, 7:07 am)
I failed to note that the 25th (today) was a Sunday when I set the new deadline after Matt joined the game, and I know that at least one of our players does not have regular access to email over the weekends.  If I do not receive prelims in time for tonight's deadline from all players, Fall 1575 will be pushed until tomorrow night, Monday, July 26th, 1700 EST, which will be a final deadline.

Mea culpa -

Note also that we still have a 5-way draw proposal for votes with this season.  Abstention = vote not counted, *not* a "no" vote.  Unanimous yes votes (of those received) will result in the proposal passing, which is for a Chosokabe/Mori/Hojo/Uesugi/Asakura draw.

Not sure if I ever published this, but Matt agreed to the 10 day first season, so the Fall 1575 deadline will be 1700 EST, July 25th.  I will be in training that day, so expect a late evening adjudication.  After that, we should be back to smooth sailing for this game - 5 business days between major seasons.

Now how about some haiku?

Well folks, I regret to inform you that we've had an abandonment.  Jean-Luc, our Chosokabe player, has asked to resign from the game, primarily (I think) due to technical issues he experienced with RP.  I am very sad to see him depart this game, as he made many contributions to this game and the variant as a whole.  I have posted the vacancy on the DC page and called for a replacement.  I will post a new deadline after we find our new player.

***TEAHOUSE COMMENTARY:  In our Sengoku-jidai, the Ryuzoji name is a distant memory, a minor nuisance crushed under the heel of the Mori clan, who have since turned their attentions to the north.  Their assistance to the Asakura is not enough to prevent the destruction of Kaga by Uesugi forces however.  In the south, the Chosokabe succeed in advancing to the critical Totomi Sea, and shifting the naval fight in their favor.  Hojo and Oda remain locked in a bitter struggle for the heart of Honshu.  Meanwhile, Satomi Yoshihiro of Hitachi enjoys peacefully watching the cherry blossoms fall, and notes the absence of emissaries in his court.

Date Masamune was one of many daimyo that ruled a portion of the vast Mutsu province.  They are most well known for their longevity, and indeed they achieved their greatest accomplishments merely by surviving the Sengoku Jidai era, and assuming control of the wealthy Sendai domain after the Tokugawa had consolidated control of Japan.  The Date were provincial lords for nearly 700 years, one of the longest tenures of any clan in Japan's feudal era.

***TEAHOUSE COMMENTARY:  Uesugi withdraws from his invasion of Asakura's domain, but does not find the support he needs to evict the Oda from their holdings in Mino.  The Chosokabe and Mori armada continues to advance along both coasts of Honshu.  Satomi Yoshihiro sends his neighbour Date Masamune his congratulations on being this months featured daimyo.  Masamune is inconsolable anyway, as he was forcibly made into an Uesugi vassal long ago in this game.  Smile

Between planning for my departure to annual training at the end of this week and the 4th of July vacations here in America, I was rushing through the adjudication, and realize I made a foolish error.  I set a winter deadline, without realizing that no adjustments are due this season!  So the Thursday July 8th deadline for Spring 1575 stands.  I will be departing for my annual training this Sunday, and will touch base and set the Fall deadline when I arrive and confirm that I will have reliable net access as expected.

Sorry for the delay -
B.

DC 306: Sengoku Rev6DP - Fall 1574: Date Masamune (dc306) Kenshi777 Jul 08, 03:36 pm
Ryuzoji Takanobu of Hizen province was a rising daimyo that ultimately bit off more than he could chew.  His attempts to suppress the rebellious clans of the Shimabara peninsula in Hizen resulted in an appeal by the Arima clan to by the powerful Shimazu clain of Satsuma.  The Shimazu would ultimately claim both the Ryuzoji lands and the life of Takanobu himself.  Before this untimely demise however, Takanobu was one of the three great daimyo of Kyushu, alongside the Otomo of Bungo province, and the Shimazu of Satsuma.

***DRAW PROPOSAL:

A five-way Chosokabe/Mori/Asakura/Uesugi/Hojo draw has been proposed.  Please include your votes with your fall orders on this proposal.  Failure to vote counts as an abstention, not a vote against - so be certain to include your vote!  The vote must have all favorable votes and/or abstentions to pass - a single vote against defeats the proposal.

DC 306: Sengoku Rev6DP - Spring 1574: Otomo Sorin (dc306) Kenshi777 Jun 27, 11:39 pm
Okay - I'm back.  Anybody got a problem with Tuesday at 1700 EST to get us back on track?

Otomo Sorin was the lord of Funai castle in Bungo province, a wealthy
port on the eastern coast of Kyushu.  Sorin was a powerful daimyo in

his own right, but was ultimately eclipsed by the powerful Shimazu and
Mori clans that surrrounded his position.  He is known to history as
one of the few daimyo that formally converted to Christianity, and for
requesting Toyotomi Hideyoshi's assistance against the Shimazu, an act

that ultimately resulted in Hideyoshi's dominance of all of Kyushu.

***TEAHOUSE COMMENTARY:  The Chosokabe trade their position in Pacific
Ocean for Kumano Sea, while on land their trust is rewarded both by

Mori and Asakura.  Hojo advances his naval lines to Pacific Ocean, but
stalls on the front against Oda.  Asakura suffers a fierce Uesugi
invasion of Kaga and Echizen, though only one of those attacks
succeeds.  And Satomi Yoshihiro quietly remains in far-flung Hitachi,

pondering the afterlife...

***HAIKU!!!

Desperado dream
Ceaseless wind turns tsunami

***PLAYERS:

Shimazu Yoshihisa - Isaac Zinner (*eliminated 1573*)

Mori Motonari - Jim Atkins

***RETREATS DUE:

Chosokabe F Pacific Ocean can retreat to South Pacific Ocean or OTB.
As I have conditional retreats already from Jean-Luc (thanks, very
helpful!), we will retreat this fleet to South Pacific Ocean per his

instructions.

***NEXT DEADLINE:

Fall 1574 will provisionally be due Tuesday, 22 June 2010 at 1700 EST.
I say provisionally because I go on vacation on 19 June.  If I can
adjudicate, I will - though I will likely need someone else to enter

the orders in RP and produce the map, which I will then certify as
official.  Any volunteers?

Diplomacy games may contain lying, stabbing, or deliberately deceiving communications that may not be suitable for and may pose a hazard to young children, gullible adults, and small farm animals.
