DC191 A Study In Baltic - Spring 1904 - The Speckl... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
It was with a clear sky above them that Holmes and Watson maneuvered down the narrow Stockholm streets. The two moved casually, enjoying the good weather. It was the first the pair had seen in several weeks - their overland journey through the Scandinavias being a nightmare of snow and surlish behaviour from the man with the twisted lip. (At one point, Watson had been worried that things would come down to fisticuffs between his friend and their so-called guide. It had been with relief that they had seen the smoke from Stockholm chimneys, allowing them to bid farewell to their villainous assistant.)

"Here it is Holmes!" Watson cried out. "This is the address of my wife's cousin." He tried the door to find it locked, the windows barred and shuttered. "Damnation. Where could they be?"

"Elementary, dear Watson. Your wife has gone with her faithful cousin to Helsingfors, Finland."

"By jove, Holmes, you astound me." Watson turned to his friend. "How on earth can you know that?"

Holmes smiled. "It's easy to tell from the depth of accumulation of snow on the walk that we are the first visitors to this door in some days. The lack of smoke rising from the chimney is clear indication of a cold hearth... And as for the rest, well, it is explained in this note found sticking from the mail-slot."....

------------------------------

Indeed, our duo's trek through the Baltic is far from over. And they may be leaving Sweden just in time as Polish fleets grow menacingly closer. One retreat is due from the Spring moves - and that from the Swedish fleet in the Gulf of Stockholm. Deadline for the Summer 1904 retreat will be set for Friday, August 8th (11:59 PM GMT).

Please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers folks!

DC196 Heroes and Villains - Fall 1902 - Mr. Mental - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
And that's just it, Doc - my mind has always been my Achilles' heel!

.....

The colours swirl around the board in the Fall - it's one hell of a turn. Russia takes advantage of the disruption of the English convoy to Norway, while at the same time thanking Germany by helping themselves to Berlin. Austrian takes a deep breath and exhales, stretching red wings in both directions. France takes Portugal but leaves Spain open to the forces in green pants while the home-guard in Paris throws the gates wide open to the advancing German stormtroopers...

Is your head spinning yet?

Out of it all, one retreat due from the English. The fleet in the North sea needs to find a new home. Deadline for Early Winter 1902 retreats will be set for Friday, August 8th (11:59 PM GMT). Sorry Rachael, the shortened deadline is due to the fact that I'll be on the road on Saturday and unable to adjudicate...

Just let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers folks!

World Diplomacy Courier News - Issue 1 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Diplomatic Corp Courier News

Today’s Headlines:
Page 1 – Disorder in South America - Collapse of the Incan Empire
Page 2 – Why are they fighting – should we blame Jack Nicholson?

In Issues to Come:
Enemy Forces Close in On Iran
The African Alliance
Quebec No More?

***Top Story – Disorder in South America – Collapse of the Incan Empire?***

Two days ago, Columbian and Argentinian forces marched into the outskirts of the Incan Empire. Argentinian forces led by General Von Trout, forced their way into the central province of Gran Chaco and have taken the capital of Chile, Santiago. “Gran Chaco will be used as a new base of offensive operation in the region,” stated Corporal Van Salmon, leader of the 3rd armored division, “Life for the Incans will be changing for the better as we introduce them to a better form of government.”

Meanwhile, in the northern portion of the country, Columbian forces pushed their way into the Gulf of Panama and Ecuador, the latter an attack that could easily have been repelled with even a little organization from the Incans. “We were fortunate that our attack worked,” Admiral Penguin yipped, “but what do you expect from backwards nation such as the Lincolns?” Whether the admiral is able to pronounce the enemy’s name correctly or not is of no matter the end may be in sight for one of our planet’s longest lasting cultures.

This devastating, simultaneous attack will result in the loss of at least two centers this year, with the likelihood that more will be lost in years to come.
“I’m amazed they lasted this long,” quipped Alistair Snobleman, “With their antiquated technology and outdated theory on life, it’s really a credit to their leadership that their civilization even survived until the twentieth century.”

All request for comment from the Incan leadership were unreturned, hopefully not a sign of things to come. President Vandar, if you wish to comment please call upon us at worlddiplomacydc195(at)yahoo.com.

***Why are they fighting – could it be related to Jack Nicholson?***

Troop movements in the northeastern part of Asia have been increasingly hostile over the last few years. The Sichuan Empire started things off with an unprovoked and overwhelming show of force conquering Northern Inner Mongolia and pushing their way into the capital of Beijing. Manchurian officials were flaborgasted by this unexpected attack, “Why? We don’t understand, we were getting along so well and now this!” stated President Pen Pen, “We have done nothing we are simply victims of their intense greed. To tell you the truth, I hate it here, I’d rather live anywhere else, if the Sichuans like it so much, we would have gladly traded.”

We were fortunate to locate and speak to the leader of the Sichuan Alliance, Grand Despot Dog Dug, as he was surveying plans to visit Lake Baikal; below is the transcript:

“Grand Despot Dog Dug, thank you for taking the time to speak to us today, may we ask why you have decided to attack your peaceful neighbor?”

“We have a large lemming population, without access to the sea they have been eating all of our lychees! We needed to find a way to the ocean to rid ourselves of this horrific burden on our people.”

“I see, now that you have control over Beijing, I assume you are satisfied and will stop moving northward?”

“That was the original plan, but we have reason to think the Manchurian leadership is dishonorable and since we have come this far we mind as well rid the earth of this lower form humanity”

“Care to expand on those reasons”

“Gladly, just last week we all got together for a lovely game of Pictionary (all being the Songs, the Japanese and the Manchurians) We do this every couple of years to maintain friendships and add a bit of competitiveness to our relationship. Well, in the third round, President Pen Pen drew three lines, ONLY three lines, and all of a sudden his wife yells out the correct answer “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest!” There was no way she could have gotten that right unless they were cheating.”

“So cheating at Pictionary is your reason for continuing this war?”

“Yes, and we think the Japanese were in on it because I think they looked at the card and were sending signals to First Lady Pen Pen, so we can’t trust them either. We had a long conversation with Junta Landry (leader of the Song Empire) and he agreed with me, they cheated and cannot be trusted.”

“So the war continues?”

“Yes, until they admit they cheated! I really need to get back to work, Lake Baikal is an alternate solution to our lemming problem…we had no idea it was so deep!”

“Thank you for your time, so there you have it folks, Pictionary, a dangerous game”

We would welcome response from President Pen Pen, please do so by responding to worlddiplomacydc195(at)yahoo.com.

DC201 - Autumn 951 retreats / revised map / change... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Autumn 951:
The Arab Caliphates have disbanded their army in Trebizond.
The French army in Hamburg had retreated to Hedeby.

(Donnie Darko moment)
Winter 951 is upon us. Time to rest.
While the days have given way to the nights in the North, troops are recovering from early signs of frostbite,
and have resorted to salted meat now that the animals have fled to warmer places or gone into hibernation.
Down South troops are exhausted from the heat of the summer and rains in the Fall.
And more to the East and West a chilling wind started blowing over seas and plains and keeps people huddled together.

The war that has plagued these lands have caused a shift in powers for some of them.
The Arab Caliphates and France have no disbands but no builds either.
Eastern Roman Empire, Norge and Slavic Nations raids have been so successful that they were able to acquire 3, 3 and 4 more supply centers respectively.

The Eastern Roman Empire gets a 3rd build for its conquest of Trebizond. The Arab Caliphates no longer needs to disband a unit as it disbanded its TRE army in Autumn.
Changes to the previous W951 adjustments have been marked in bold below.

... Destiny's powerful hand has made the bed of my future, and it's up to me to lie in it. I am destined to be a superhero. To right wrongs, and to pound two-fisted justice into the hearts of evildoers everywhere. And you don't fight destiny. No sir. And, you don't eat crackers in the bed of your future, or you get all... scratchy...

---------------

Heya gang,

The retreat is quick and easy and goes to Edinburgh. The hard stuff all done, we move onto Winter 1902 adjustments. Deadline is set for Monday, August 11th (11:59 PM GMT).

Now here's the tricky part. Next week is a complicated one for the ladies of our game. Nicola (Turkey) is on vacation - we're proceeding with Winter as she has no adjustments to make. Rachael (England) will be moving next week as well. Why do I bring this up? Just to warn everyone that the Spring 1903 deadline will be a little longer than usual - so heads up.

Cheers folks!

Dc199 New Turkey - short deadline - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear All.

I have not heard from the new Turkey for the Monday deadline, which is unusual as I know Steve
and he is normally a reliable player. I've sent an email his way and hopefully we'll see fall off and running
in the next 24 hours.

Don't make us bite you in hard-to-reach places!

They're baa-ack! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Yep, our recent messages tab is back, and better than ever. Upgraded to MXP (MXPublisher) 2.8 from their old MXBB. So many users noticed the lack of getting their daily dose of dc drama that we had to bump it up in priority to get it going.

As many of you know, dc went thru a migration about 2 weeks ago and is now hosted out at bay area internet solutions in San Jose, California. That migration saw us moving to a dedicated server, with our own T1 and mail server to boot.

As always if anyone has suggestions on improvements be sure to share!
Thanks,
Your DC Team

DC203 Galad Official Gamestart - YES, Finally! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
All,
We have our confirmations and we are ready to roll with dc203 - Galad.

Our fearless leaders for this game are as follows:

Austria-Hungary - Craig - cbconnell(at)gmail.com (cbconnell(at)gmail.com)

England - Joao - jlqueiros3(at)hotmail.com (jlqueiros3(at)hotmail.com)

Turkey - Matt - kelly058(at)verizon.net (kelly058(at)verizon.net)

**************************************************************

The deadline for Spring 01 is:

Friday August 15th 5PM Central Time [United States]

**************************************************************

Remember, orders aren't confirmed until you get an email back from me stating such. For multiple versions of orders, I like to use the following format:

Galad [or dc203]: English Orders S01 [1]

and then vary the number in parentheses for each subsequent set. As a rule of thumb, you should send in orders pretty quick as conditional and then change them after diploming. This often avoids the dastardly NMR [no moves requested]. NMRs result in all units standing and two NMRs puts your country in anarchy for the remainder of the game [and draws the ire of your GM who WILL do all he can to have you greylisted from the site].

I am attaching a copy of my house rules. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I will have the dcsite for our game updated shortly and will copy all communications to the dc203 Forum on the website. I am also attaching starting unit positions [for any newbies] as well as a .gif file with map names/abbreviations to be used in the games. ONE NOTE: newbies remember that Bul, Spa, and StP have two coasts and orders should reflect which coast you want a Fleet to move to. F StP starts in the south coast; future builds of Fleets in StP can occur on EITHER coast but Russia MUST designate which one.

Just to ensure that we get off on the right foot, please send provisional orders quickly. I get nervous if I don't have provisional orders when beginning a new game. Please don't wait until the last minute or I will haunt you non-stop to get some.

Happy stabbing, er...diploming!

Cheers,

dc188 - Spring 1904 - Results - CORRECTED - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
So, apparently I can't tell the difference between ION and SMY.

Italy correctly ordered to ION from EMS, and not to SMY as I had clicked into RP. Obviously the Italian wasn't trying to cut his own support.

EVERYTHING else is the same on the map except the Italian fleet is in ION rather than EMS.

I will send out a corrected map with retreats. Sorry about that.
