DC 333, Fall 1905 delay. NEED ORDERS - alwayshunted   (Oct 25, 2010, 7:01 pm)
Hey gang,

I'm missing more than one set of orders for fall, which was due an hour ago. In light of the public draw proposal and votes that went around, I'm going to hold off for another day to make sure that people understand that the draw did not actually occur.

I will say that the draw proposal has failed, so we will be continueing in 23 hours whether I have orders from the offending nations or not.

DC 333, Draw Proposed - alwayshunted   (Sep 28, 2010, 12:55 pm)
Gang,

Lets clear a few things up here.

First, there are no default retreats. I occasionally retreat a single unit with one option in order to keep the game rolling (which I will likely reconsider doing in the future), but I am clear at the start of the game, as are the DC house rules, that unordered retreats go away. An easy solution: Send your orders, don't assume.

Second, there is no excuse for any player to order without being aware of the game rules, or the "house rules" for any particular game. It's not a crime, but don't expect any sympathy. I will answer any rule question at any time, or direct you to an explanation. I am not responsible for checking with anyone to make sure they know the rules as they play. There are MANY sources to find diplomacy rules online, including our own DC site.

Lastly, some of you are asking for my intervention, or for judgement calls in this. Forget it. This is your game, not mine. I will play referee, adjudicate, and try to keep things rolling. That's it. I will oversee votes for some things if I think they are reasonable requests. It doesn't affect me at all, so why not?

I think that's it. Play on please.

Gentlemen,
It seems there was more than one confusion over the retreat season. I don't know what Nick's problem was, but Jim (Russia) was under the misapprehension that in Winter he could voluntarily disband units and rebuild them. That is, obviously, not the case, and he says that Warren finally explained that rule to him *after* the retreats.

Since it's Jim's first DC game, this is plausible ignorance, and I think that it would be a fair trade to approve both retreat do-overs. One helps Russia, one harms Russia, but both help the game to be played at the highest level. Could everybody agree to this?

I apologize for writing this myself; as a DC old-timer, I'm a bit more willing to challenge things than a newcomer would be. I was also the recipient of your good graces earlier in the game, and I think it's fair to extend that grace to others.

Best regards,
- Salim

Hey all,

I have a proposal for a four way draw, including  England, France, Russia and Turkey. For those who are unaware, this would give Germany and Italy "survival" status, while the other four get "draw" status.

It must be unanimous to pass, meaning I need six yes votes. Abstaining means you vote no. Votes are due with the fall orders next Monday.

Thanks,

Warren

DC 333, Winter 1902 New maps etc. - alwayshunted   (Aug 30, 2010, 4:01 pm)
Hi folks,

Okay, as I previously mentioned England has been unanimously granted a build for the winter 1903 season.  It was a fleet in London, which certainly gives new life to this abandoned position.

New maps are attached here and I'll get them up on the DC site soon. The spring 1903 deadline is Friday, September 3, 17:00 MDT.  23:00 GMT.

On we go then....

Warren
