DC140 "Never Ending Story" fall 1908 res... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Russia once again makes big gains, swarming further into Italian homelands, and even taking a shot at France. After numerous previous attempts, England finally gains MAO, but France hangs on to Liverpool. Turkey and Italy continue to slug it out in the Balkans, but Turkey wins this round of the fight by gaining control of Naples. All of the Italian home centers are now under foreign occupation.

There is one autumn retreat due. The French army in Burgundy may retreat to Gascony, Paris, Picardy, or OTB.

Winter 1908 adjustments will be as follows:
France build 1 or 2, depending on retreat
Italy remove 2
Russia build 2
Turkey build 2

Both the autumn retreat and winter adjustments will be due Thursday 5/22 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks!

Cory

DC140 "Never Ending Story" summer 1908 r... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
England takes his only available retreat, but France fails to contact the dislodged fleet, leaving it to slip below the waves...

As I noted in the spring adjudication message, the French fleet had more than one destination, so I could not order the retreat myself. With the French NRR, that fleet is no more, it has ceased to be, it's an ex-fleet! (Apologies to John Cleese...)

Fall 1908 orders will be due next Tuesday 5/20 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks!

DC140 summer 1908 1-day reminder - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I will be away this afternoon, so this reminder is a bit earlier than usual. The summer 1908 retreat deadline is tomorrow 5/13 at 3pm Central (US), and I have not yet received the French retreat. Kyle, please be sure to send it in, since with more than one valid destination, I can't automatically order the retreat for you. Thanks!

DC140 "Never Ending Story" spring 1908 r... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Spring 1908 arrives, and we find numerous units being dislodged. England and France continue to duke it out around the British Isles, while Italy once again bounces England's attempted move to MAO. Italy and Turkey beat up on each other again, while Russia slides by and occupies Venice. Russia also puts a hurt on France.

No fewer than five units feel the heat, and some have nowhere to go:
The English fleet in Wales may retreat to London or OTB.
The French fleet in the English Channel may retreat to Brest, Irish Sea, or OTB.
The French army in Ruhr has no valid retreats and is destroyed.
The Italian army in Serbia has no valid retreats and is destroyed.
The Turkish fleet in Greece has no valid retreats and is destroyed.

Because the French fleet has more than one retreat option, I'll need to have a separate summer turn. The summer 1908 retreats will be due Tuesday 5/13 at 3pm Central (US). I will adjudicate the turn as soon as I receive the retreat orders -- if they arrive in the next 24 hours, we can still have the fall deadline next week. Thanks!

On the build side, France and Italy beef up their navies, while Russia and Turkey each add ground troops. For removals, each unit disbanded was the farthest from its respective home country.

We'll return to our normal scheduled day for spring 1904, which will be due Thursday 2/21 at 3pm Central (US). The day before the deadline is one of my busiest of the year at work, so I may not be able to send out a 24-hour reminder this turn. Happy stabbing!

DC140 "Never Ending Story" spring 1905 r... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Spring 1905 brings lots of battles around the North Sea/English Channel area, but the combatants have very little to show for it. A French fleet moves to NAO and Germany reoccupies Munich, but every other move in the north fails. In the south, Italy and Turkey stand off in the undefended Budapest, allowing the absent Austria to retain control. Italy convoys an army to Albania and scuttles the Turkish fleet. Turkey's unsupported convoy to Bulgaria also succeeds.

Since the only dislodged unit, Turkey's F Albania, had no valid retreats and was destroyed, we move directly into fall 1905, which will be due next Tuesday 3/18 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks, everyone!

DC140 "Never Ending Story" spring 1902 r... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Welcome back from the holiday break, everyone, now the intrigue begins.

England occupies Sweden, with what turns out to be an unneeded support from Germany, and both of them move units toward Russian home centers. Turkish fleets reach both the Adriatic and Black Seas, but Bulgaria is lost to a concentrated Austrian attack. Italy goes for the Lepanto strategy, moving a fleet to Eastern Med. An Austrian army hikes into Tyrolia. The French navy sails westward, taking control of the English Channel without a fight.

We have only one retreat, the Turkish army in Bulgaria. Since the only valid retreat is to Con, I'll take the liberty of ordering that retreat. Sultan Davitchenko, if you instead wish to retreat OTB, please let me know right away.

The fall 1902 deadline will be next Thursday 1/17 at 3pm Central (US). I want to give everyone fair warning that my work schedule is getting much busier, so I may not send out a receipt as quickly as I would like. Thanks!

DC140 -- The Never Ending Story -- fall 1901 resul... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
In fall 1901 of our "Never Ending Story", Austria and Germany prove to be the big winners. Austria guesses correctly that his unsupported move to Gre would succeed and that he could force his way into Rum. Germany bounces Russia from Swe and walks unopposed into both Hol and Bel, while England commits all his forces to gaining Nwy. France moves to protect Mar from an Italian attack that does not materialize, while Italy convoys to Tun. Russia draws the short straw and misses out on the winter 1901 builds. No retreats are due, so we move directly to the winter adjustment phase.

Everyone except Russia picks up at least one build during winter 1901. Because of the holiday, I'll give everyone a little extra time to send their build orders, and set the winter 1901 deadline for next Thursday 12/27 at 3pm Central (US).

Winter 1901 adjustments:

Austria build 3
England build 1
France build 2
Germany build 3
Italy build 1
Turkey build 1

DC140 fall 1901 24 hour warning! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
A friendly reminder, fall 1901 orders are due in about 24 hours. I am missing orders from at least one player. Don't forget to send them in!

Also, under normal circumstances, the winter 1901 deadline would be next Tuesday. But since that is Christmas, I will definitely push that back. If a winter 1901 deadline of Thursday 12/27 would interfere with anyone's holiday plans, please let me know, and I will adjust accordingly. It's a build phase, so I think this won't be a problem. Thanks!

Quite an interesting start to the game, with a few players making opening moves I have not seen in a while. Neither Russia nor Turkey sails to the Black Sea, France moves to Gascony, Italy moves to Piedmont, and Russia orders an army to St. Petersburg.

There are no retreats, of course, so the fall 1901 will be next Thursday 12/20 at 3pm Central (US). With the holidays approaching, please let me know right away if this poses a problem for anyone. Thanks!

dc140 (re001) game start! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey all,

I guess I'm one of the last to make an introduction. My name is Chicco (pronounced Kee-ko) Seminari and I'm in my 3rd year, studying Political Science at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. I've played Diplomacy once before on another forum, immediately fell in love with it, and so came over to diplomaticcorp to find more games.

I'll be playing as Russia for my first time, so we'll see how that goes.

Hi All,

I'm Andy, from Yorkshire in England and I will be playing as Austria. I'm a security expert and run my own security/body guarding and training business here in the UK.

I discovered the Diplomacy board game a few months back and have sine bored my friends and family with it, playing it almost everyday. This is my first online game though and my first against experienced players.

May I wish everyone an enjoyable game.

I played Diplomacy through the internet some years ago (when I had more time than now) and now I'm back.

I am pleased to announce the start of our game, which will now be numbered dc140. This game will be named "The Never Ending Story," a little commentary about my current work environment. (Kevin, if you're out there, they're coming back again next week!) The player roster and country assignments appear at the end of this message. Martin, I hope you are able to join another game soon, a fresh re001 should be coming very soon.

Please indicate the game number, your country, the season of play, and a version number for your orders in any e-mails to me: e.g. "dc140 England spring 1901 orders, v1". I am involved in two other games, so as you might expect, I have lots of Dip-related e-mail traffic -- the header allows me to use mail filters so that I don't lose anything, or inadvertently mix up your orders with those I saw in another game. If you have any questions of a technical nature that are not addressed in the official Diplomacy rules or my House Rules, I'll do my best to answer those. However, I can't address strategy or divulge any information about another player's orders/plans (or lack thereof).

Also, don't forget to subscribe to the dc140 forum on the group website. I will send all my notices to everyone's individual e-mail addresses as well, but it doesn't hurt to have a backup. On that theme, I maintain a secondary e-mail address, coryfucius(at)gmail.com (coryfucius(at)gmail.com), to ensure that the game isn't hindered by any problems that periodically arise with Yahoo mail. Please feel free to send e-mails to both of my addresses; I would rather receive 2 copies of a message than take the chance of the only copy getting lost.

I encourage each of you to introduce yourselves to the rest of the players. My name is Cory Burris, and I have been involved in Diplomacy for nearly 2 years. This is my second time serving as a GM with the DC club. In real life, I work as a budget analyst for a large US state, am married, and have one child.

About 24 hours before each deadline, I will do my best to send out a reminder notice. But this is not a promise, and the deadline won't be delayed if I am unable to send a reminder, meeting the deadline is your responsibility. With each adjudication, I will include both a .gif file and a Realpolitik .dpy file. If you don't have RP yet, I highly recommend it -- the club website has a link to this program. The adjudication text, .gif file, and current player stats can also be found on the club website.

Our first deadline, for the spring 1901 orders, will be Thursday 12/13 at 3pm Central (US). I strongly encourage preliminary orders, especially on the first turn. With the holidays approaching, I would like to get in a full game year before vacation schedules slow us down.

Thanks for playing, everyone!

Hi all,

I will also introduce myself. My name is Denis Sauer and I'll be playing England. I've already played on the board game, but quite new to the internet playing. I live in Switzerland, between Geneva and Lausanne, and work in an electronics start-up.
I'm looking forward to this game with all of you!

Thanks for playing, everyone!

dc140 (re001) game start! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi all,

I will also introduce myself. My name is Denis Sauer and I'll be playing England. I've already played on the board game, but quite new to the internet playing. I live in Switzerland, between Geneva and Lausanne, and work in an electronics start-up.
I'm looking forward to this game with all of you!

Best,
Denis

DC140 "Never Ending Story" 21 hour remin... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Sorry I didn't send this reminder at the 24-hour mark, but at least it's still well ahead of the fall 1902 deadline. While I have sent most of you a confirmation, I am still missing orders from at least one player -- please don't forget to send them in!

Cory
