DC 454 France EOG - MikeFarrington   (May 21, 2013, 1:29 pm)
Thank you John for GM'ing us and thanks everyone who played - it was an enjoyable bunch.

For me this game was interesting: prior to signing up for WB I hadn't played for 10-15 years.  I probably signed up for more of a commitment than I could take on, with more NMR's in a game than I ever had before in my whole tenure on Cat-23 I think.  Anyway I think my NMR and Austria's, his in the Spring and mine in the Fall, of 1901 really affected the game a lot....  Turkey/Russia were pretty well unchecked in the East, and my early incompetency may have led Italy to decide to take a crack at Marseilles and Spain.

My in-game goal was just to not spend all game ordering around two units like the first WB game, which Hamish GM'd and can attest to.  I felt I'd rather go out in flames than languish.  CW had similar sentiment and so we were thinking we'd roll against Germany, but somehow Poul or the threat of the Juggernaut made us go for the Triple.  Side note - if anyone has seen a more ineffective Triple please comment....I think we all NMR'd once along the way and I spent most of the time just defending myself against some of John R's crafty anti-Franco agenda.

At any rate, somehow I survived and had a pretty good time in the process.  Thanks to Dan and CW for deciding not to carve me up at the end of the game.

Mike

Well, the EFT draw passed! Congrats to the victors, and thanks to everyone for sticking with it. Especially thanks to Hamish, who, remember, was a replacement player all those game years ago. I encourage EOG statements from all players. Hope the game was fun for all. It's been a privilege to GM this round. I'll update the DC site later today.

DC 454 Turkish EOG - ddz999cat23   (May 21, 2013, 8:56 am)
Hi All,
First as always thanks to our faithful GM.  John, great work.  Timely, consistent and full of fun and solid GM commentary which didn't alter game play.
From a
Turkish tactical perspective you can't get better than an Austrian NMR in Spring 1901.  Of course, I was still unhappy to see it as it tweaked the game.  But many thanks to Hamish for stepping in.  Sadly I had to stab on him early to make sure the Arch-Duke was fully kicked after he was down.  Russia and I worked out our alliance after that even after I had opened with F Bla stab and A Ank - Arm.  Convoying from Arm - Bul while A Bul - Gre was pretty much it.  I felt pretty confident I'd share in any 3-way draw after that.
Without a solid Austria John was in a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't position
as I wasn't going to give the Mediterranean away and Mike was coming with his fleets.  Tough go there.
Dan stabbed me as a desperate attempt to be relevant.  No shame there, It was only a matter of time that I would have done the same thing since there wasn't much future in the Juggernaut with StP fallen.  But there was not enough juice to make the Black See stab work.
Anyway, the endgame was short and sweet.  Three corner powers bearing down on the crumbled center.  Everyone saw the writing on the wall.
Good playing all and good luck all on your next Dip adventure!Dan

Germany Convoys to Livonia? True StoryWhat Did Germany Do to Get the Business End of a 4-Country Beat Down? Are Alliances Shifting in the South? Will the Austrian Navy Find a Home?Who Will be the First Country to Fall - Austria or England?Stayed Tuned...
Hi guys,It's your (dis)honorable sub GM checking in. And what an interesting turn we have. But to business first - we have one retreat:
German A Bur can retreat to Par, Ruh or Pic (or OTB which I don't expect to be chosen)
I need that by tomorrow at 4p EST. However, if I get it sooner marked as "final" I will go ahead and run the turn.
I can't wait to see what happens in the Fall. I will say that I loved the German convoy. That was an awesome move in a rough situation! I am definitely confused about what is happening but I am excited to watch it unfold.

Pretty straightforward. Apologies for the delay. I had to confirm something and it made me miss the open window I had to run the turn yesterday. John is back for Monday so submit to him and copy the orders box.
Let's do a 2pm CST deadline on Monday John due to my tardiness.
NOTE: there is an EGP on the table - 3-way EFT draw. All players must vote YES with Spring orders for this to pass. Forgetting to submit a vote is the same as a NO vote.
England builds A Lon, A EdiRussia removes F PruGermany removes F BerFrance builds F Bre, A MarTurkey builds A Con
I turn it back over to John. Don't forget to vote. Good luck.

This year seems to be the final tipping point for the RAGged band of non-FET players. Russia's down a center. Germany has a net loss of 2, but only loses one unit this winter. Austria, likewise, loses 2 centers, but also has 2 units disbanded. Meanwhile, the three-headed Blue and Yellow monster swells a total of 5 centers this year. Will the alliance last? Or will treachery strike? Only time will tell.
There was one retreat. Russian F Sev can only retreat to Rumania. Seeing as how a retreat off the board would eliminate Russia, I'm assuming Sev-Rum is a safe bet, and in lieu of contradiction from him, that'll be the official retreat. However, should the Russian instead choose to fall on his sword, Turkey will gain 2 centers instead of 1. So conditional builds/disbands are of course allowed, and in the case of turkey, strongly encouraged.

Builds/Disbands:
Austria: Even (-Tri, -Ser, +2 disbanded units in fall)
England: +2 (+ Hol, +Mos)
France: +2 (+Mun, +Tri)
Germany: -1 (-Hol, -Mun, -Mos, +War, +disbanded A Hol in spring)
Italy: eliminated
Russia: -1 (-sev, -War, +Rum) (if rum retreats OTB, then eliminated)
Turkey: +1 (+ser, +sev, -Rum) (If rum retreats OTB, then +2)

Garry, thanks for running the turn.

To the players: my orders will be secret (if easy to guess), but I want everyone to know that I will be voting to hand the draw to EFT.  Unless anyone thinks they can break that alliance then it's just a matter of time.  If anyone DOES think they can break the alliance then let's go for it!  (Come on, someone MUST point out to England that they're looking at a potential solo if they go for it.)

I've still got an order missing.  I'll email them directly just after I send this one.  If I haven't received and order by, say, 5pm GMT tonight then I'll adjudicate anyway.

*FET Alliance Gains Big*
*Offered Supports Rejected*
*Russia Keeps Germans in Warsaw*

Hey all,

First off, thanks for the well wishes I've received from many of you regarding the passing of my grandmother. It is appreciated. Memorial services are tomorrow. I think I'm going to ask the Moderators to cover the turn, so make sure you cc the orders box.

France rushes home and Turkey's retreat should be interesting.  Turkey's army in Sevastopol can retreat to Armenia, Rumania, or OTB.  Which they decided to do could change this year's builds for Austria.

Turkey retreats to Armenia...
   Austria builds 1.
   England builds 1.
   Russia removes 1.
   Turkey removes 1.

Turkey retreats to Rumania...
   England builds 1.

I've still got an order missing.  I'll email them directly just after I send this one.  If I haven't received and order by, say, 5pm GMT tonight then I'll adjudicate anyway.
