<With apologies to the memory of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle>

It was a particularly rainy night when Dr. Watson stepped through the front door, doffing his rainy over-coat and heading straight for the study. There he found the fire already crackling, its warmth suffusing through the room, and his friend Sherlock Holmes already ensconced beside it in his arm-chair. Without looking up, the detective removed the pipe from his mouth.

"You are worried about the recent affairs in the Baltic, are you Watson?"

Watson paused mid-stride. "Holmes, you constantly amaze me. I was just about to ask you about this recent swirl of unpleasantness."

"It was elementary, my dear Watson. You have just come from your club, where you and the other members sit and discuss the recent news of the day. The recent military mobilizations are, of course, the front page news in the Times today and would be the main topic of discussion. And since you did not even stop by the kitchen for your usual cup of tea before coming here from the front door, I know that you wish to discuss something with me... What you have heard at the club has obviously worried you. And with the emminent Mary Watson is currently visiting cousins in the Scandinavias, it is not too far of a stretch to understand the cause of that worry."

His friend gathered himself in his own arm-chair and began stuffing his pipe. "Still, Holmes, it is a wonder. But, you are correct - war is about to break out in the Baltic and my wife is there travelling. What do you know of this Baltic affair?"

Holmes leaned forward.. "Well, the signs point to four nations mobilizing for war. I'm sorry Watson, but this looks to be quite the messy affair..."

Apologies to you guys for getting this out a day late - purely the GM's fault and I regret the work pressures that caused it. However, the action from the first turn looks extremely promising - although it might be a little hot for Finland. Then again though, is any power's back-door truly safe?

No retreats needed - we move onto Fall 1901. Deadline will be set for Thursday, June 19th (11:59 PM GMT). Please just let me know if you see any errors in the adjudication.

Cheers!
